and_o then_o take_v he_o glad_o outward_a comfort_n of_o the_o world_n and_o of_o the_o flesh_n but_o when_o he_o begin_v perfect_o to_o overcome_v himself_o and_o to_o walk_v strong_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n than_o he_o regard_v the_o labour_n but_o little_a that_o he_o think_v before_o to_o be_v right_o grievous_a and_o as_o importable_a to_o he_o of_o the_o know_v of_o ourself_o the_o .5_o chapter_n we_o may_v not_o trust_v much_o in_o ourselves_o nor_o in_o our_o own_o wit_n for_o oft_o time_n through_o our_o presumption_n we_o lack_v grace_n and_o right_a little_a light_n of_o so_o rigorous_o judge_v the_o default_n of_o his_o neighbour_n a_o man_n that_o be_v inwardlye_o turn_v to_o god_n take_v heed_n of_o himself_o before_o all_o other_o and_o he_o that_o can_v well_o take_v heed_n of_o himself_o can_v light_o be_v still_o of_o other_o man_n deed_n thou_o shall_v never_o be_v a_o inward_a man_n and_o a_o devout_a follower_n of_o christ_n onlesse_a thou_o canst_v keep_v thyself_o from_o meddle_v on_o other_o man_n deed_n &_o canst_v special_o take_v heed_n of_o thy_o own_o if_o thou_o take_v heed_n whole_o to_o god_n and_o to_o thyself_o the_o defaulte_n which_o thou_o see_v in_o other_o shall_v little_o move_v thou_o where_o be_v thou_o when_o thou_o be_v not_o present_a to_o thyself_o and_o when_o thou_o haste_v all_o run_v about_o and_o much_o
let_v he_o be_v kind_a and_o thankful_a for_o such_o grace_n as_o he_o have_v receive_v patient_a when_o it_o be_v withdraw_v and_o pray_v devout_o that_o it_o may_v short_o come_v again_o let_v he_o be_v meek_a and_o lowa_o in_o spirit_n that_o he_o lose_v it_o not_o again_o through_o his_o presumption_n and_o pride_n of_o hart_n of_o the_o small_a number_n of_o the_o lover_n of_o the_o cross_n the_o .11_o chapter_n iesus_n have_v many_o lover_n of_o his_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o he_o have_v few_o bearer_n of_o his_o cross_n many_o desire_n his_o consolation_n but_o few_o desire_n other_o villainy_n many_o love_n jesu_n so_o long_o as_o no_o adversity_n follow_v to_o they_o and_o can_v praise_v he_o and_o bless_v he_o when_o they_o receyve_v any_o benefit_n of_o he_o but_o if_o jesu_n a_o little_a withdraw_v himself_o from_o they_o and_o a_o little_a forsake_v they_o anon_o they_o fall_v to_o some_o great_a grudginge_v or_o to_o overgreat_a defection_n or_o into_o open_a desperation_n but_o they_o that_o love_n jesu_n pure_o for_o himself_o and_o not_o for_o their_o own_o profit_n and_o commodity_n they_o bless_v he_o as_o hearty_o in_o temptation_n and_o tribulation_n and_o in_o all_o other_o adversity_n as_o they_o do_v in_o time_n of_o consolation_n and_o if_o he_o never_o send_v they_o consolation_n yet_o will_v they_o always_o laud_v he_o and_o and_o in_o far_a country_n if_o a_o man_n geve_v all_o his_o substance_n for_o god_n yet_o he_o be_v naught_o and_o if_o he_o do_v great_a penance_n for_o his_o sin_n yet_o he_o be_v but_o little_a and_o if_o he_o have_v great_a cunning_a and_o knowledge_n yet_o he_o be_v far_o from_o virtue_n and_o if_o he_o have_v great_a virtue_n and_o brenninge_a devotion_n yet_o much_o want_v in_o he_o spiritual_a it_o be_v grievous_a and_o tedious_a unto_o i_o for_o as_o long_o as_o i_o see_v not_o my_o lord_n open_o in_o his_o glory_n i_o set_v it_o at_o naught_o all_o that_o i_o see_v and_o
