special_a thing_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n when_o we_o come_v before_o he_o we_o shall_v consider_v that_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a just_a god_n and_o therefore_o not_o to_o dare_v to_o come_v but_o through_o a_o mediator_n here_o you_o have_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o must_v tender_v up_o all_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n because_o when_o we_o be_v to_o come_v before_o god_n we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o his_o justice_n for_o thou_o to_o think_v thus_o i_o have_v sin_v and_o god_n be_v merciful_a and_o i_o will_v go_v and_o do_v sanctify_v his_o justice_n so_o much_o as_o this_o that_o when_o a_o poor_a creature_n see_v the_o infinite_a distance_n that_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o that_o infinite_a god_n and_o it_o it_o see_v that_o through_o sin_n it_o have_v make_v its_o self_n liable_a to_o justice_n and_o when_o it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o infinite_a justice_n must_v have_v satisfaction_n and_o think_v the_o sinner_n if_o it_o come_v to_o i_o that_o i_o must_v satisfy_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n i_o be_o never_o able_a to_o do_v it_o but_o there_o be_v a_o mediator_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v fly_v to_o he_o and_o by_o faith_n tender_v up_o to_o the_o father_n all_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o son_n as_o a_o full_a satisfaction_n to_o his_o infinite_a as_o may_v have_v a_o spiritual_a glory_n upon_o they_o that_o some_o image_n of_o the_o divine_a lustre_n that_o there_o be_v in_o god_n may_v be_v upon_o my_o service_n and_o let_v i_o look_v for_o glorious_a thing_n see_v i_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o glorious_a god_n you_o will_v say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o do_v in_o serve_v of_o god_n how_o much_o be_v here_o that_o we_o must_v do_v i_o appeal_v to_o any_o gracious_a heart_n what_o can_v thou_o want_v of_o any_o of_o these_o or_o what_o will_v thou_o want_v do_v thou_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n can_v there_o be_v too_o much_o to_o make_v thou_o happy_a these_o thing_n be_v not_o only_o thy_o duty_n but_o thy_o happiness_n glory_n and_o excellency_n consist_v in_o they_o if_o any_o one_o shall_v bring_v you_o a_o great_a many_o jewel_n and_o pearl_n will_v you_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n ado_n oh_o no_o the_o more_o the_o merry_a so_o say_v i_o this_o one_o meditation_n will_v you_o have_v not_o discharge_v your_o conscience_n and_o so_o you_o come_v to_o be_v defile_v and_o you_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o this_o ordinance_n because_o you_o have_v not_o do_v to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o your_o duty_n for_o the_o cast_v out_o of_o those_o wicked_a man_n and_o mark_v in_o 2_o cor._n 5._o 7._o there_o the_o apostle_n write_v to_o the_o church_n bid_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v purge_v out_o the_o old_a leven_fw-mi know_v you_o not_o say_v he_o that_o a_o little_a leven_a leven_v the_o whole_a lump_n the_o apostle_n do_v not_o speak_v there_o of_o sin_n to_o purge_v he_o out_o and_o we_o do_v not_o do_v it_o as_o in_o all_o communion_n of_o saint_n there_o be_v a_o duty_n and_o there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o but_o may_v do_v something_o towards_o it_o thus_o far_o every_o communicant_a in_o every_o communion_n of_o saint_n must_v go_v if_o there_o be_v a_o wicked_a man_n there_o if_o you_o come_v to_o know_v it_o and_o do_v not_o go_v thus_o far_o as_o i_o have_v speak_v you_o be_v defile_v by_o he_o you_o be_v not_o defile_v by_o the_o mere_a presence_n of_o wicked_a man_n for_o that_o be_v a_o mere_a deceit_n and_o gall_n that_o some_o will_v put_v upon_o man_n that_o differ_v from_o they_o otherwise_o but_o thus_o now_o you_o be_v defile_v by_o their_o presence_n if_o you_o do_v not_o do_v your_o duty_n and_o the_o uttermost_a the_o church_n will_v not_o do_v their_o duty_n as_o they_o ought_v yet_o then_o to_o free_v their_o own_o soul_n as_o to_o profess_v here_o be_v one_o that_o be_v so_o and_o so_o guilty_a and_o may_v do_v withdraw_v from_o those_o that_o walk_v disorderly_a when_o we_o do_v our_o duty_n thus_o far_o 1_o thess_n 3._o 14._o if_o any_o man_n obey_v not_o our_o word_n by_o this_o epistle_n note_v that_o man_n and_o have_v no_o company_n with_o he_o that_o he_o may_v be_v ashamed_a and_o in_o the_o six_o verse_n of_o that_o chapter_n he_o command_v they_o in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n if_o we_o be_v in_o a_o place_n where_o either_o this_o congregation_n will_v not_o take_v upon_o they_o any_o such_o power_n to_o cast_v out_o unworthy_a one_o or_o be_v not_o convince_v of_o this_o power_n than_o there_o be_v no_o rule_n that_o christ_n have_v set_v that_o we_o must_v be_v force_v all_o our_o day_n to_o continue_v to_o be_v in_o such_o a_o congregation_n as_o deny_v one_o of_o the_o ordinance_n of_o jesus_n christ_n if_o so_o be_v there_o be_v any_o such_o that_o be_v wicked_a and_o we_o do_v first_o what_o we_o can_v to_o have_v they_o cast_v out_o and_o we_o wait_v with_o they_o and_o they_o must_v take_v it_o themselves_o indeed_o if_o they_o be_v child_n you_o cut_v every_o piece_n of_o meat_n and_o give_v it_o into_o their_o hand_n or_o mouth_n but_o that_o be_v suitable_a to_o a_o fellowship_n at_o table_n and_o communion_n to_o have_v the_o meat_n set_v before_o they_o be_v blessed_v and_o then_o for_o all_o to_o partake_v of_o it_o and_o beside_o this_o giving_z it_o into_o every_o one_o hand_n certain_o it_o come_v to_o we_o from_o a_o popish_a and_o superstitious_a conceit_n of_o the_o papist_n for_o the_o papist_n will_v give_v it_o into_o their_o mouth_n because_o the_o people_n must_v not_o defile_v it_o with_o their_o hand_n and_o it_o be_v to_o bring_v more_o reverence_n to_o the_o sacrament_n now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v give_v to_o thou_o when_o he_o know_v they_o be_v profane_a and_o wicked_a it_o concern_v the_o minister_n to_o look_v that_o he_o do_v not_o tell_v a_o lie_n but_o their_o great_a trade_n and_o traffic_n that_o they_o have_v and_o the_o fertile_a place_n that_o they_o live_v in_o no_o this_o be_v not_o the_o greatness_n of_o a_o nation_n but_o what_o nation_n be_v there_o so_o great_a that_o have_v the_o lord_n god_n so_o nigh_o to_o they_o there_o be_v the_o greatness_n of_o a_o nation_n and_o so_o a_o spiritual_a heart_n will_v account_v greatesse_n to_o consist_v in_o have_v god_n to_o be_v nigh_o unto_o it_o the_o second_o scripture_n be_v in_o numb_a 16._o 9_o there_o we_o have_v moses_n speak_v unto_o the_o son_n of_o korah_n rebuke_v they_o for_o their_o sin_n and_o he_o bring_v this_o aggravation_n to_o they_o of_o the_o greatness_n of_o their_o sin_n say_v he_o seem_v it_o but_o a_o small_a thing_n unto_o you_o that_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n have_v separate_v you_o from_o the_o congregation_n of_o israel_n to_o bring_v you_o near_o to_o
this_o or_o what_o great_a good_a there_o be_v in_o preparation_n for_o god_n worship_n 4._o four_o i_o shall_v answer_v a_o case_n of_o conscience_n or_o two_o 5._o five_o i_o will_v show_v you_o what_o be_v the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v 6_o sixthly_a the_o reason_n why_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n first_o that_o there_o must_v be_v preparation_n to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o first_o that_o god_n that_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n 1_o be_v a_o great_a and_o glorious_a god_n and_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o infinite_a glorious_a dreadful_a majesty_n it_o be_v fit_a that_o we_o shall_v make_v preparation_n when_o we_o come_v nigh_o unto_o he_o therefore_o in_o exod._n 19_o 10._o when_o god_n come_v among_o the_o people_n to_o give_v they_o his_o law_n he_o do_v require_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v sanctify_v to_o day_n and_o tomorrow_o and_o that_o they_o shall_v wash_v their_o shall_v make_v some_o preparation_n for_o the_o time_n of_o preparation_n we_o shall_v speak_v to_o afterward_o when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o case_n of_o conscience_n about_o preparation_n for_o worship_n and_o so_o in_o 1_o chr._n 22._o 5._o 14._o david_n make_v preparation_n for_o the_o house_n of_o god_n because_o it_o be_v the_o house_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v to_o build_v though_o the_o house_n of_o god_n be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o of_o christ_n it_o show_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v much_o preparation_n when_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o his_o ordinance_n second_o 2_o as_o god_n be_v great_a that_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o so_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v great_a duty_n they_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o do_v concern_v we_o in_o this_o world_n and_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o a_o very_a carnal_a heart_n to_o slight_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n to_o make_v account_n of_o they_o as_o little_a matter_n carnal_a heart_n ordinary_o the_o thing_n that_o concern_v their_o business_n in_o the_o world_n they_o think_v great_a matter_n oh_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v that_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v that_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v such_o a_o business_n or_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v to_o visit_v or_o gratify_v such_o a_o friend_n but_o now_o for_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n it_o be_v good_a indeed_o but_o whither_o it_o be_v do_v or_o not_o it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n therefore_o they_o can_v put_v off_o prayer_n if_o they_o have_v any_o business_n the_o time_n of_o prayer_n must_v pay_v for_o it_o they_o can_v put_v off_o that_o upon_o any_o slight_a occasion_n they_o do_v not_o account_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_v great_a matter_n my_o brethren_n i_o beseech_v you_o learn_v this_o lesson_n this_o morning_n to_o account_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_v great_a matter_n they_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o do_v concern_v you_o here_o in_o this_o world_n for_o they_o be_v the_o homage_n that_o you_o tender_v up_o to_o the_o high_a god_n as_o you_o hear_v and_o those_o thing_n wherein_o god_n communicat_o himself_n in_o his_o choice_n mercy_n now_o be_v such_o great_a matter_n there_o be_v cause_n that_o we_o shall_v prepare_v for_o that_o one_o thing_n of_o prayer_n say_v luther_n it_o be_v a_o great_a work_n and_o a_o difficult_a work_n and_o therefore_o there_o have_v need_n be_v preparation_n for_o it_o business_n of_o great_a consequence_n we_o make_v preparation_n for_o indeed_o if_o a_o business_n be_v a_o slight_a business_n we_o can_v fall_v upon_o it_o on_o a_o sudden_a you_o make_v not_o preparation_n to_o go_v in_o a_o boat_n in_o the_o thames_n but_o to_o go_v a_o voyage_n you_o make_v great_a preparation_n now_o if_o man_n and_o woman_n will_v but_o understand_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n to_o be_v great_a they_o will_v see_v a_o necessity_n to_o make_v a_o preparation_n many_o man_n for_o want_n of_o preparation_n to_o duty_n they_o lose_v a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o time_n when_o they_o come_v to_o perform_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n in_o prayer_n they_o spend_v half_o the_o time_n that_o be_v convenient_a to_o be_v spend_v in_o prayer_n before_o they_o begin_v to_o pray_v and_o so_o in_o hear_v the_o word_n they_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o they_o can_v settle_v themselves_o to_o attend_v to_o the_o word_n or_o in_o any_o other_o kind_n of_o worship_n i_o say_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n in_o the_o worship_n be_v spend_v ordinary_o before_o we_o can_v get_v our_o heart_n to_o close_v with_o the_o worship_n now_o that_o be_v a_o sore_a and_o a_o great_a evil_a to_o lose_v any_o part_n of_o the_o time_n of_o worship_n christian_n i_o beseech_v you_o account_v high_o of_o the_o time_n of_o your_o worship_n you_o have_v be_v so_o long_a time_n at_o prayer_n yea_o but_o how_o much_o of_o it_o have_v be_v lose_v because_o you_o have_v not_o prepare_v before_o hand_n for_o it_o perhaps_o you_o kneel_v upon_o your_o knee_n but_o you_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o you_o can_v get_v your_o heart_n warm_a at_o your_o work_n why_o you_o shall_v have_v be_v warm_a before_o you_o have_v come_v it_o be_v so_o oftentimes_o with_o many_o man_n when_o they_o meet_v together_o and_o there_o be_v no_o preparation_n for_o their_o business_n they_o come_v together_o and_o they_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o they_o can_v buckle_v to_o the_o business_n that_o they_o come_v about_o because_o there_o be_v no_o preparation_n but_o if_o there_o be_v preparation_n make_v that_o every_o man_n know_v before_o hand_n what_o his_o work_n be_v they_o can_v fall_v to_o it_o and_o they_o can_v dispatch_v as_o much_o in_o one_o hour_n as_o other_o do_v in_o two_o or_o three_o but_o of_o that_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o afterward_o three_o 3_o there_o must_v be_v preparation_n because_o our_o heart_n be_v natural_o exceed_o unprepared_a for_o every_o good_a work_n we_o be_v all_o natural_o even_o reprobate_a to_o every_o good_a work_n the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v high_a and_o spiritual_a and_o holy_a thing_n but_o by_o nature_n our_o heart_n grovel_v in_o the_o dirt_n and_o we_o be_v carnal_a sensual_a drossy_a dead_a slight_a sottish_a and_o vain_a altogether_o unfit_a to_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n oh_o that_o we_o be_v but_o apprehensive_a and_o senfible_a of_o the_o unfitnesse_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n perhaps_o because_o thou_o know_v not_o god_n thou_o can_v rush_v into_o his_o presence_n without_o any_o more_o ado_n but_o if_o thou_o know_v thyself_o and_o god_n thou_o can_v not_o but_o see_v thyself_o altogether_o unfit_a for_o his_o presence_n and_o so_o as_o to_o wonder_v that_o the_o lord_n shall_v not_o spurn_v thou_o out_o of_o his_o presence_n every_o time_n thou_o come_v unto_o he_o there_o have_v need_v then_o be_v preparation_n because_o we_o be_v so_o unfit_a to_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n four_o 4_o there_o have_v need_n be_v preparation_n because_o of_o the_o great_a hindrance_n of_o the_o worship_n
man_n because_o they_o do_v good_a action_n but_o god_n accept_v of_o the_o action_n of_o man_n because_o their_o person_n be_v good_a if_o indeed_o we_o see_v a_o man_n do_v good_a than_o we_o love_v he_o and_o accept_v of_o the_o person_n of_o the_o man_n but_o god_n first_o will_v accept_v of_o the_o person_n before_o the_o action_n as_o the_o lord_n accept_v of_o abeâ—_n first_o and_o then_o he_o accept_v his_o offering_n so_o you_o must_v look_v to_o that_o to_o have_v your_o person_n first_o accept_v of_o god_n before_o any_o duty_n can_v be_v accept_v you_o think_v though_o you_o be_v wicked_a and_o sinful_a yet_o if_o you_o amend_v your_o life_n god_n will_v accept_v of_o you_o you_o go_v that_o way_n to_o work_v but_o certain_o that_o be_v the_o wrong_a way_n you_o must_v first_o look_v after_o mean_n of_o acceptation_n of_o your_o person_n which_o be_v through_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o through_o the_o sanctification_n of_o his_o spirit_n whereby_o you_o come_v to_o have_v his_o image_n and_o life_n and_o so_o be_v accept_v and_o then_o all_o that_o proceed_v from_o you_o come_v to_o be_v accept_v there_o be_v not_o any_o action_n which_o come_v from_o you_o that_o come_v to_o be_v accept_v to_o eternal_a life_n until_o your_o person_n be_v accept_v before_o god_n and_o therefore_o there_o must_v be_v a_o sanctify_a of_o the_o heart_n before_o there_o can_v be_v a_o sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n therefore_o when_o you_o come_v to_o perform_v any_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n you_o shall_v cold_o this_o be_v my_o heart_n sanctify_v i_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n and_o how_o can_v i_o do_v that_o except_o my_o heart_n be_v sanctify_v 2_o second_o our_o heart_n must_v be_v sanctify_v because_o the_o lord_n do_v look_v more_o to_o the_o principle_n from_o whence_o a_o thing_n come_v then_o at_o the_o thing_n itself_o as_o indeed_o be_v our_o heart_n right_a as_o they_o shall_v then_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n that_o come_v to_o we_o we_o will_v not_o so_o much_o regard_v what_o the_o thing_n be_v that_o we_o do_v enjoy_v from_o god_n as_o what_o the_o principle_n be_v from_o whence_o they_o come_v that_o be_v whether_o what_o we_o do_v enjoy_v from_o god_n be_v from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n or_o no_o whether_o it_o be_v from_o the_o general_a bounty_n and_o patience_n of_o god_n or_o from_o the_o special_a â—ove_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n â—ur_n heart_n will_v regard_v that_o moâ—â—_n if_o we_o be_v spiritual_a now_o then_o look_v as_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o enjoy_v any_o good_a thing_n from_o god_n except_o he_o know_v it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o he_o â—esus_fw-la christ_n so_o god_n be_v not_o please_v with_o any_o thing_n that_o come_v from_o we_o except_o he_o know_v that_o it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o our_o heart_n 3_o three_o according_a as_o the_o heart_n be_v so_o will_v the_o service_n be_v certain_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v unclean_a the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a perhaps_o the_o word_n may_v be_v fine_a and_o brave_a but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o unclean_a heart_n the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o plague_n suppose_v he_o make_v a_o brave_a oration_n yet_o his_o breath_n be_v infectious_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o service_n with_o god_n if_o so_o be_v that_o our_o heart_n within_o we_o have_v the_o plague_n then_o certain_o the_o breath_n that_o come_v from_o we_o all_o our_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o in_o the_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o holy_a duty_n look_v to_o have_v thy_o heart_n sanctify_v and_o consider_v from_o what_o principle_n it_o come_v it_o be_v for_o want_n of_o this_o that_o thousand_o of_o our_o duty_n be_v cast_v aside_o and_o god_n never_o do_v regard_v they_o but_o this_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a there_o be_v many_o more_o to_o speak_v of_o sermon_n v._n leviticus_n 10._o 3._o i_o will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o they_o that_o come_v nigh_o i_o we_o proceed_v 1645._o the_o next_o thing_n therefore_o for_o the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o worship_n be_v this_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n if_o we_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n we_o must_v have_v high_a thought_n of_o god_n we_o must_v look_v upon_o god_n as_o he_o be_v upon_o his_o throne_n in_o maâ—estie_n and_o in_o glory_n as_o in_o isa_n 6._o 1_o 2._o you_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o prophet_n see_v the_o lord_n upon_o his_o throne_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a thing_n when_o all_o who_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n every_o time_n they_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o have_v their_o eye_n dart_v up_o to_o heaven_n and_o behold_v the_o lord_n god_n sit_v in_o his_o glory_n upon_o his_o throne_n so_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o rev._n 4._o the_o 24_o elder_n that_o worship_v god_n they_o see_v he_o upon_o his_o throne_n in_o his_o glory_n and_o so_o they_o worship_v he_o they_o worship_v god_n to_o purpose_n indeed_o when_o they_o see_v the_o lord_n in_o that_o majesty_n as_o he_o be_v we_o shall_v at_o all_o time_n have_v high_a thought_n of_o god_n take_v heed_n of_o have_v low_a thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a majesty_n of_o god_n at_o any_o time_n but_o especial_o when_o thou_o be_v to_o worship_n the_o great_a god_n then_o look_v upon_o the_o lord_n in_o that_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o he_o and_o thyself_o yea_o that_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o he_o and_o all_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n look_v upon_o the_o lord_n as_o lift_v up_o in_o glory_n not_o only_o above_o all_o creature_n but_o above_o all_o excellency_n that_o all_o angel_n and_o man_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o imagine_v look_v upon_o the_o lord_n as_o have_v all_o excellency_n in_o himself_o join_v in_o one_o and_o that_o immutable_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o excellency_n good_a and_o glory_n that_o all_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n have_v and_o look_v upon_o the_o â—ord_n every_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o worship_n he_o as_o that_o god_n who_o angel_n do_v adore_v and_o before_o who_o the_o devil_n be_v force_v to_o tremble_v behold_v he_o in_o this_o his_o glory_n and_o this_o will_v help_v thou_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o he_o the_o great_a reason_n why_o people_n come_v and_o worship_n god_n in_o a_o slight_a way_n it_o be_v because_o that_o they_o do_v not_o see_v god_n in_o his_o glory_n it_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n for_o god_n to_o give_v unto_o we_o a_o sight_n of_o himself_o a_o sight_n of_o his_o glory_n here_o in_o this_o world_n while_o we_o be_v worship_v of_o he_o this_o will_v keep_v our_o eye_n and_o our_o thought_n from_o wander_a if_o we_o have_v a_o sight_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o god_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o wander_v so_o as_o we_o do_v but_o mere_o because_o we_o see_v not_o god_n as_o now_o suppose_v you_o be_v in_o your_o house_n and_o look_v after_o every_o feather_n that_o be_v fly_v up_o and_o down_o if_o you_o shall_v hear_v that_o the_o â—ing_n be_v come_v into_o the_o â—oom_n or_o any_o great_a person_n it_o will_v compose_v your_o spirit_n because_o you_o have_v â—igh_a thought_n of_o such_o as_o or_o those_o that_o be_v above_o you_o so_o let_v we_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o in_o his_o excellency_n and_o his_o glory_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o he_o and_o this_o be_v that_o whereby_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n when_o we_o come_v before_o he_o in_o holy_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n first_o a_o sanctify_a heart_n and_o then_o high_a thought_n of_o glorious_a comfort_n the_o full_a beam_n of_o the_o sun_n rise_v upon_o thou_o but_o at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o the_o lord_n will_v break_v in_o upon_o thou_o and_o manifest_v his_o glory_n to_o thou_o and_o its_o like_a if_o thou_o have_v not_o such_o full_a comfort_n now_o yet_o upon_o thy_o sick_a bed_n though_o god_n do_v not_o then_o always_o manifest_v himself_o full_o for_o sometime_o the_o disease_n may_v be_v a_o hindrance_n yet_o it_o be_v ordinary_a that_o those_o that_o in_o their_o constant_a way_n do_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o do_v lie_v comfortable_o upon_o their_o sick_a bed_n and_o a_o glorious_a entrance_n be_v make_v for_o they_o into_o the_o everlasting_a kingdom_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o again_o all_o thing_n be_v sanctify_v unto_o they_o as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n those_o that_o do_v not_o sannctifie_v god_n name_n all_o thing_n be_v curse_v to_o they_o if_o thou_o do_v not_o make_v conscience_n of_o sanctify_a god_n name_n in_o duty_n god_n care_v not_o to_o sanctify_v any_o thing_n for_o thy_o good_a but_o now_o those_o that_o make_v conscience_n of_o sanctify_a god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n the_o lord_n take_v care_n that_o all_o thing_n shall_v be_v sanctify_v for_o their_o good_a for_o the_o furtherance_n of_o their_o eternal_a good_a and_o how_o ever_o it_o be_v here_o yet_o hereafter_o at_o the_o great_a day_n of_o judgement_n it_o will_v be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n to_o manifest_v before_o man_n and_o angel_n how_o he_o do_v accept_v of_o those_o holy_a service_n that_o thou_o do_v tender_v up_o to_o he_o when_o hypocrite_n shall_v be_v cast_v away_o and_o abhor_v and_o thou_o who_o have_v a_o upright_a sincere_a heart_n shall_v be_v own_v before_o god_n and_o before_o man_n and_o angel_n at_o that_o great_a day_n and_o god_n shall_v say_v well_o it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o my_o holiness_n to_o make_v it_o appear_v that_o i_o have_v accept_v of_o these_o holy_a thing_n that_o these_o my_o poor_a servant_n have_v tender_v up_o to_o i_o and_o this_o now_o be_v of_o marvellous_a use_n for_o the_o comfort_v of_o a_o gracious_a heart_n those_o duty_n that_o thou_o do_v now_o think_v thou_o have_v lose_v and_o there_o will_v nothing_o come_v of_o they_o thou_o shall_v certain_o hear_v of_o they_o another_o day_n god_n will_v make_v it_o appear_v there_o be_v nothing_o that_o he_o stand_v more_o upon_o then_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n and_o it_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n that_o be_v thy_o strength_n in_o this_o thing_n and_o that_o make_v it_o certain_a to_o thou_o that_o there_o must_v be_v a_o manifestation_n of_o thy_o acceptance_n and_o therefore_o take_v these_o truth_n into_o thy_o heart_n about_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n you_o have_v have_v only_o the_o point_n in_o general_n open_v to_o you_o oh_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n will_v bring_v thing_n the_o particular_a duty_n of_o his_o worship_n now_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v especial_o these_o three_o 1_o the_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n 2_o receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n 3_o and_o prayer_n other_o thing_n come_v under_o worship_n but_o yet_o these_o be_v the_o three_o cheiâ—_n duty_n of_o worship_n and_o i_o intend_v to_o speak_v to_o all_o these_o three_o and_o to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o draw_v nigh_o unto_o he_o in_o the_o word_n sacrament_n and_o prayer_n we_o may_v choose_v several_a text_n for_o all_o these_o but_o they_o fall_v full_a within_o the_o general_a and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o to_o ground_v the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o these_o duty_n of_o worship_n upon_o this_o text_n i_o of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n that_o which_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v to_o this_o morning_n it_o be_v the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o wordâ—_n if_o you_o will_v have_v the_o ground_n of_o what_o we_o be_v to_o say_v concern_v this_o in_o a_o particular_a scripture_n you_o may_v have_v it_o in_o luk._n 8._o 18._o take_v heed_n therefore_o how_o you_o hear_v it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n that_o be_v good_a and_o no_o question_n but_o god_n be_v please_v with_o the_o willingness_n of_o people_n to_o come_v to_o hear_v his_o word_n but_o you_o must_v not_o rest_v bare_o in_o hear_v but_o take_v heed_n how_o you_o hear_v now_o this_o be_v a_o point_n of_o great_a consequence_n and_o i_o hope_v it_o may_v do_v good_a to_o help_v to_o make_v many_o sermon_n to_o be_v profitable_a to_o you_o &_o the_o point_n i_o hope_n be_v seasonable_a &_o will_v be_v very_o suitable_a unto_o you_o for_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v so_o soon_o in_o a_o morning_n and_o be_v willing_a even_o in_o hard_a weather_n to_o come_v out_o of_o their_o bed_n they_o give_v some_o good_a testimony_n that_o they_o do_v desire_n to_o honour_n god_n in_o their_o hear_n and_o to_o get_v good_a by_o their_o hear_n and_o it_o be_v pity_v that_o labour_n and_o pain_n shall_v be_v bestow_v and_o no_o profit_n but_o hurt_n rather_o get_v by_o it_o which_o god_n forbid_v therefore_o now_o i_o be_o to_o speak_v to_o a_o point_n that_o may_v help_v you_o so_o to_o hear_v as_o may_v recompense_v all_o your_o labour_n and_o pain_n in_o hear_v in_o preach_v to_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v that_o so_o they_o may_v get_v good_a and_o benefit_n by_o it_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o encouragement_n then_o to_o such_o as_o come_v in_o a_o formal_a way_n because_o they_o use_v to_o come_v therefore_o this_o point_n be_v a_o great_a point_n i_o shall_v open_v it_o some_o what_o large_o and_o shall_v cast_v it_o into_o this_o method_n first_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o the_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o otherwise_o i_o can_v not_o ground_v it_o upon_o any_o text_n second_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o how_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n either_o in_o regard_n of_o preparation_n unto_o it_o or_o our_o behaviour_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n three_o why_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o this_o ordinance_n of_o he_o four_o how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v himself_o in_o such_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v his_o
that_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o they_o as_o he_o speak_v unto_o solomon_n and_o bid_v he_o ask_v what_o he_o shall_v give_v he_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o they_o will_v ask_v but_o have_v attain_v that_o if_o god_n will_v speak_v from_o heaven_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o give_v you_o for_o yourselves_o if_o he_o shall_v ask_v you_o in_o the_o general_n it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v ask_v something_o for_o the_o church_n but_o if_o it_o be_v for_o yourselves_o you_o will_v put_v up_o this_o petition_n oh_o lord_n that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o thyself_o then_o ever_o yet_o i_o enjoy_v and_o they_o will_v account_v this_o to_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n than_o if_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o to_o be_v king_n or_o queen_n over_o the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n shall_v put_v these_o two_o into_o the_o balance_n either_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o possess_v or_o otherwise_o to_o have_v more_o free_a heart_n in_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o that_o have_v so_o much_o hinder_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n they_o will_v despise_v and_o scorn_v the_o world_n in_o comparison_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n as_o this_o be_v howsoever_o carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v little_a of_o it_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o find_v it_o to_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o they_o but_o be_v the_o time_n be_v past_a i_o shall_v reserve_v that_o to_o speak_v yet_o a_o little_a more_o large_o for_o the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o i_o will_v only_o speak_v one_o thing_n further_o now_o and_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v wicked_a and_o vile_a that_o not_o only_o have_v vain_a wander_a thought_n in_o prayer_n but_o even_o in_o the_o very_a duty_n of_o prayer_n many_o time_n have_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a thought_n how_o horrible_a be_v they_o unclean_a thought_n murderous_a thought_n it_o may_v be_v and_o most_o abominable_a i_o confess_v even_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a may_v sometime_o have_v some_o blasphemous_a thought_n cast_v into_o they_o for_o the_o devil_n be_v never_o more_o busy_a then_o at_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n but_o they_o rather_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n then_o from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v we_o may_v make_v out_o more_o clear_o afterward_o but_o now_o i_o speak_v to_o such_o as_o have_v most_o wicked_a abominable_a thought_n rise_v from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n such_o thought_n as_o their_o heart_n do_v close_o withal_o in_o prayer_n and_o they_o can_v roll_n those_o thought_n about_o in_o their_o mind_n as_o a_o child_n will_v roll_n a_o piece_n of_o sugar_n in_o its_o mouth_n and_o this_o be_v the_o wickedness_n of_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n heart_n take_v but_o this_o one_o note_n with_o you_o that_o all_o those_o dreadful_a vile_a unclean_a covetous_a thought_n of_o thou_o in_o prayer_n they_o have_v be_v to_o god_n as_o if_o you_o have_v speak_v they_o in_o word_n thought_n to_o god_n be_v all_o one_o with_o he_o as_o word_n be_v to_o man_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n do_v converse_v with_o god_n in_o thought_n as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v converse_v with_o man_n in_o word_n and_o what_o a_o woeful_a guiltiness_n will_v have_v be_v upon_o you_o have_v you_o speak_v such_o vile_a and_o wicked_a thing_n to_o man_n as_o some_o time_n have_v be_v in_o your_o mind_n even_o when_o you_o have_v be_v pray_v to_o god_n how_o will_v the_o company_n have_v even_o spit_v in_o your_o face_n and_o kick_v you_o from_o they_o none_o that_o have_v any_o face_n of_o godliness_n will_v have_v endure_v you_o in_o their_o company_n and_o yet_o from_o the_o sacrifice_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o peck_v it_o wicked_a lust_n in_o man_n heart_n be_v like_o swine_n to_o take_v the_o meat_n and_o all_o to_o hale_v it_o in_o the_o dirt_n so_o their_o prayer_n be_v filthy_a and_o dirty_a with_o their_o lust_n but_o those_o that_o be_v otherwise_o godly_a yet_o by_o their_o vain_a thought_n the_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n of_o their_o prayer_n be_v take_v away_o as_o wine_n and_o beer_n that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o they_o go_v so_o the_o life_n and_o spirit_n of_o our_o duty_n be_v go_v by_o our_o vain_a thought_n and_o therefore_o vain_a thought_n do_v dead_a the_o heart_n very_o much_o so_o say_v david_n in_o the_o 119._o turn_v away_o my_o eye_n from_o behold_v vanity_n and_o quicken_v i_o in_o thy_o law_n while_o spirit_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n bring_v no_o vain_a oblation_n say_v god_n in_o isa_n 1._o 13._o oh_o what_o vain_a oblation_n do_v we_o bring_v by_o the_o vanity_n of_o our_o
