for_o their_o behaviour_n in_o the_o time_n of_o distress_n four_o here_o we_o have_v a_o notable_a remedy_n against_o desparie_n wherewith_o despair_n the_o devil_n assault_v many_o a_o child_n of_o god_n when_o through_o infirmity_n they_o fall_v into_o some_o grievous_a sin_n or_o commit_v the_o same_o sin_n often_o which_o great_o wound_v the_o conscience_n for_o here_o christ_n bid_v we_o ask_v forgiveness_n of_o our_o daily_a sin_n whatsoever_o they_o be_v or_o how_o often_o so_o ever_o commit_v and_o no_o doubt_n he_o that_o bid_v we_o forgive_v our_o brethren_n that_o sin_n must_v pray_v not_o only_o for_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o own_o other_o sin_n but_o of_o our_o brethren_n also_o forgive_v we_o whereby_o christ_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o be_v careful_a of_o the_o salvation_n of_o our_o brethren_n and_o neighbour_n the_o good_a estate_n of_o their_o soul_n shall_v be_v dear_a and_o precious_a unto_o we_o and_o if_o this_o be_v so_o happy_a will_v it_o be_v with_o the_o church_n of_o god_n but_o alas_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o care_n of_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o neighbour_n that_o man_n of_o the_o same_o family_n be_v careless_a of_o one_o a_o other_o soul_n master_n regard_v not_o their_o servant_n nor_o parent_n their_o child_n indeed_o they_o will_v provide_v for_o their_o body_n and_o outward_a state_n but_o for_o their_o soul_n they_o have_v no_o care_n wherein_o they_o bewray_v themselves_o to_o be_v cruel_a and_o merciless_a have_v more_o care_n of_o their_o hog_n and_o bruit_n beast_n then_o of_o their_o child_n and_o servant_n for_o when_o their_o hog_n have_v all_o needful_a provision_n their_o child_n and_o servant_n soul_n shall_v want_v instruction_n as_o we_o also_o forgive_v our_o debtor_n these_o word_n be_v here_o propound_v as_o a_o condition_n of_o the_o former_a petition_n and_o they_o include_v a_o reason_n thereof_o as_o luk._n 11._o 4._o forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n for_o even_o we_o forgive_v every_o man_n towards_o our_o brethren_n and_o so_o break_v off_o the_o course_n of_o our_o sin_n if_o we_o look_v for_o mercy_n at_o god_n hand_n now_o the_o word_n here_o use_v be_v comparative_a betoken_v a_o likelihood_n and_o similitude_n between_o god_n forgive_a and_o we_o which_o must_v be_v right_o understand_v because_o our_o forgiveness_n be_v mingle_v with_o much_o corruption_n through_o want_n of_o mercy_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o understand_v it_o of_o the_o measure_n of_o forgiveness_n nor_o yet_o of_o the_o manner_n simple_o but_o especial_o of_o the_o very_a act_n of_o from_o god_n in_o his_o suffering_n answer_n christ_n our_o saviour_n on_o the_o cross_n stand_v in_o our_o room_n and_o stead_n he_o bear_v upon_o he_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o elect_a and_o for_o substance_n the_o whole_a punishment_n due_a to_o the_o same_o which_o be_v both_o the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n but_o yet_o concern_v the_o suffering_n of_o the_o second_o death_n there_o blaspheme_v god_n now_o their_o blasphemy_n increase_v their_o sin_n and_o their_o sin_n cause_v their_o torment_n to_o be_v multiply_v for_o ever_o this_o doctrine_n be_v suitable_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o to_o reason_n for_o in_o man_n reason_n the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n can_v not_o be_v a_o remedy_n to_o such_o person_n as_o be_v condemn_v to_o a_o double_a death_n both_o of_o mercy_n for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n if_o we_o can_v depend_v upon_o his_o providence_n for_o food_n and_o raiment_n last_o hereby_o we_o may_v try_v our_o faith_n what_o it_o be_v true_a or_o â—ained_a weak_a or_o strong_a for_o this_o christ_n here_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o more_o we_o be_v distract_v faith_n with_o worldly_a care_n the_o less_o be_v our_o belief_n in_o god_n for_o distrustful_a care_n come_v from_o unbelief_n in_o god_n providence_n and_o the_o less_o we_o trust_v in_o god_n for_o temporal_a thing_n the_o less_o do_v we_o believe_v eternal_a mercy_n for_o the_o same_o faith_n lay_v hold_v on_o both_o but_o if_o we_o can_v true_o depend_v upon_o god_n for_o temporal_a blessing_n in_o the_o sober_a use_n of_o lawful_a mean_n than_o we_o shall_v rely_v upon_o his_o mercy_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n this_o trial_n be_v not_o make_v in_o prosperity_n for_o when_o god_n send_v abundance_n every_o one_o will_v trust_v in_o he_o but_o when_o want_n come_v then_o be_v the_o trial_n of_o thy_o faith_n if_o then_o thou_o â—elâ—e_v on_o god_n though_o mean_v fail_v thy_o faith_n be_v strong_a but_o if_o thy_o heart_n be_v oppress_v with_o increase_v in_o we_o we_o must_v do_v that_o which_o by_o nature_n we_o may_v do_v to_o wit_n hear_v the_o word_n preach_v and_o read_v we_o must_v meditate_v therein_o and_o labour_n so_o to_o urge_v
