alas_o what_o can_v nature_n do_v in_o such_o a_o case_n if_o god_n will_v not_o help_v be_v it_o equal_a that_o man_n be_v put_v upon_o impossibility_n or_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v punish_v for_o that_o which_o can_v be_v avoid_v it_o be_v not_o in_o man_n to_o direct_v his_o own_o way_n to_o subdue_v his_o own_o sin_n we_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o lump_n of_o corruption_n the_o lord_n hand_n and_o apply_v the_o general_a doctrine_n to_o this_o special_a occasion_n meditation_n sharpen_v the_o sting_n and_o strength_n of_o corruption_n 1_o that_o it_o pierce_v more_o prevail_o it_o draw_v out_o the_o venom_n the_o quintessence_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o a_o corruption_n and_o let_v in_o that_o upon_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n of_o a_o sinner_n which_o sting_n and_o torment_v he_o in_o great_a extremity_n make_v he_o see_v more_o in_o his_o distemper_n than_o ever_o he_o suspect_v make_v he_o feel_v it_o far_o worse_o than_o ever_o he_o can_v have_v imagine_v it_o can_v have_v be_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o art_n of_o chemistry_n and_o distillation_n by_o their_o dexterity_n and_o skill_n in_o that_o course_n they_o draw_v out_o the_o very_a spirit_n of_o the_o metal_n or_o herb_n or_o liquor_n as_o the_o spirit_n of_o wine_n the_o oil_n of_o gold_n etc._n etc._n and_o five_o drop_n of_o that_o will_v work_v more_o strong_o than_o five_o 〈◊〉_d five_o spoonful_n of_o the_o body_n of_o the_o herb_n or_o water_n in_o the_o gross_a because_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o spirit_n as_o it_o be_v gather_v together_o in_o a_o narrow_a room_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v active_a in_o the_o high_a degree_n if_o it_o be_v spirit_n of_o poison_n it_o kill_v sudden_o it_o be_v present_a death_n past_a recovery_n if_o of_o cordial_a or_o preservative_n they_o comfort_v and_o refresh_v beyond_o imagination_n 〈◊〉_d and_o strange_o so_o here_o meditation_n be_v this_o spiritual_a chemistry_n or_o the_o art_n of_o holy_a distillation_n which_o draw_v out_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o poison_n and_o bitterness_n that_o be_v in_o corruption_n spirituallize_v the_o plague_n and_o venom_n of_o the_o vengeance_n that_o attend_v every_o transgression_n and_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o small_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n yet_o it_o sting_v the_o heart_n more_o than_o the_o great_a evil_n which_o be_v commit_v if_o not_o
