this_o chapter_n be_v twofold_a first_o to_o foretell_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v war_n in_o judea_n and_o in_o the_o country_n near_o unto_o it_o come_v 1._o to_o forewarn_v they_o of_o war_n to_o come_v both_o unto_o the_o terrify_n or_o fear_v of_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o before_o arm_v of_o the_o godly_a and_o faithful_a and_o also_o for_o the_o yield_a of_o a_o reason_n and_o make_v more_o plain_a of_o the_o promise_n make_v before_o touch_v the_o victory_n which_o the_o jew_n shall_v have_v against_o their_o enemy_n for_o to_o what_o end_n shall_v he_o speak_v of_o victory_n but_o because_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v war_n so_o then_o in_o this_o place_n be_v brief_o foretell_v both_o the_o warrr_n which_o be_v before_o the_o maccabee_n and_o also_o those_o which_o be_v in_o their_o government_n yea_o and_o also_o in_o those_o country_n afterward_o even_o until_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n for_o i_o do_v not_o think_v that_o here_o be_v rehearse_v those_o war_n the_o which_o fall_v out_o after_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n albeit_o that_o the_o thing_n which_o here_o be_v speak_v may_v be_v apply_v also_o unto_o all_o the_o affliction_n of_o the_o church_n at_o any_o time_n that_o the_o godly_a may_v be_v fore_o arm_v and_o that_o the_o wicked_a and_o such_o as_o be_v hypocrite_n in_o the_o church_n may_v be_v call_v back_o unto_o repentance_n if_o it_o may_v be_v for_o fear_v of_o the_o calamity_n or_o punishment_n hang_v over_o their_o head_n this_o be_v the_o first_o drift_n of_o this_o chapter_n church_n 2._o to_o show_v the_o cause_n of_o so_o great_a affliction_n of_o the_o church_n the_o second_o be_v that_o the_o cause_n of_o so_o great_a affliction_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n may_v be_v declare_v and_o that_o by_o this_o mean_v all_o man_n may_v be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o their_o duty_n both_o the_o ruler_n of_o the_o common_a wealth_n and_o the_o ruler_n of_o the_o church_n and_o also_o the_o subject_n the_o cause_n of_o these_o evil_n and_o punishment_n here_o recite_v the_o which_o afterward_o fall_v out_o and_o do_v also_o now_o a_o day_n fall_v out_o unto_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v the_o negligence_n of_o the_o pastor_n or_o ruler_n as_o well_o of_o the_o common_a wealth_n as_o of_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n as_o of_o the_o church_n as_o the_o priest_n and_o levite_n then_o and_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n now_o by_o which_o recital_n the_o ruler_n of_o that_o nation_n be_v betimes_o put_v in_o mind_n of_o the_o performance_n of_o their_o duty_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o do_v that_o negligence_n endure_v nay_o become_v always_o worse_o and_o worse_o until_o that_o god_n do_v utterlie_o break_v off_o the_o old_a covenant_n of_o that_o people_n and_o send_v hi●_n christ_n
