it_o that_o afford_v these_o thing_n unto_o we_o we_o see_v here_o the_o happiness_n of_o be_v bring_v forth_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o the_o church_n where_o such_o mean_n as_o these_o be_v vouchsafe_v and_o we_o shall_v acknowledge_v god_n goodness_n to_o we_o in_o this_o particular_a for_o though_o there_o be_v the_o stir_n of_o conscience_n sometime_o even_o in_o civil_a man_n in_o from_o within_o themselves_o out_o of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o belly_n and_o bowel_n when_o he_o please_v they_o carry_v the_o matter_n of_o their_o judgement_n about_o they_o and_o in_o their_o own_o breast_n that_o so_o they_o may_v so_o much_o the_o more_o tremble_v and_o stand_v in_o awe_n of_o he_o and_o take_v heed_n of_o provoke_v he_o who_o will_v not_o fear_v this_o great_a god_n and_o beware_v of_o do_v any_o thing_n which_o may_v offend_v he_o who_o be_v able_a to_o do_v thus_o with_o they_o who_o can_v send_v the_o plague_n into_o their_o bowel_n not_o only_o in_o a_o bodily_a sense_n as_o it_o have_v be_v of_o late_a here_o in_o this_o land_n and_o city_n but_o in_o a_o spiritual_a which_o be_v far_o worse_a who_o can_v punish_v a_o man_n with_o his_o own_o affection_n and_o with_o the_o very_a thought_n which_o do_v arise_v and_o proceed_v out_o of_o his_o own_o mind_n though_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o beside_o second_o we_o see_v here_o also_o what_o good_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o order_n and_o regulate_v our_o affection_n and_o to_o keep_v they_o within_o their_o proper_a bound_n to_o take_v heed_n of_o extravagancy_n and_o extremity_n in_o any_o particular_a forasmuch_o as_o we_o know_v not_o what_o at_o last_o it_o may_v come_v to_o we_o know_v not_o where_o we_o shall_v stop_v and_o stay_v if_o we_o look_v not_o to_o ourselves_o nor_o what_o inconvenience_n may_v follow_v upon_o it_o passionate_n and_o violent_a person_n they_o be_v the_o great_a enemy_n and_o adversary_n to_o themselves_o if_o they_o right_o consider_v it_o neither_o do_v they_o need_v any_o other_o to_o torment_v than_o their_o own_o bowel_n therefore_o let_v we_o here_o watch_n over_o ourselves_o and_o desire_v of_o god_n himself_o to_o watch_v over_o particular_a which_o be_v the_o grief_n of_o these_o part_n thus_o affect_v both_o in_o the_o kind_n and_o effect_n of_o it_o the_o three_o be_v the_o passage_n or_o vent_n i_o can_v hold_v my_o peace_n passion_n where_o ever_o it_o be_v it_o will_v make_v way_n and_o force_v itself_o forth_o and_o so_o it_o do_v here_o in_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n in_o speech_n and_o outward_a expression_n he_o speak_v and_o he_o can_v do_v no_o otherwise_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o be_v silent_a in_o the_o condition_n in_o which_o he_o now_o be_v this_o be_v true_a of_o he_o according_a to_o a_o double_a explication_n either_o first_o of_o all_o of_o the_o speech_n of_o discovery_n i_o can_v hold_v my_o peace_n that_o be_v i_o can_v choose_v but_o publish_v it_o or_o else_o second_o of_o the_o speech_n of_o lamentation_n i_o can_v hold_v my_o peace_n that_o be_v i_o can_v choose_v but_o bemoan_v it_o and_o bewail_v it_o and_o make_v complaint_n of_o it_o each_o of_o these_o be_v in_o it_o first_o the_o speech_n of_o descovery_n i_o can_v hold_v my_o peace_n that_o be_v i_o can_v choose_v but_o i_o must_v publish_v it_o and_o declare_v it_o and_o signify_v it_o abroad_o i_o find_v these_o working_n in_o my_o own_o spirit_n and_o i_o can_v but_o i_o must_v acquaint_v you_o with_o they_o i_o must_v reveal_v they_o and_o make_v they_o know_v unto_o you_o and_o thus_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n speak_v as_o a_o minister_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o as_o one_o that_o be_v entrust_v with_o god_n people_n commit_v unto_o he_o those_o which_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n in_o the_o ministry_n they_o find_v sometime_o a_o necessity_n in_o themselves_o for_o the_o discovery_n of_o their_o own_o thought_n to_o their_o people_n and_o that_o now_o and_o then_o even_o almost_o whether_o they_o will_v or_o no_o this_o we_o find_v once_o to_o have_v be_v the_o case_n of_o this_o very_a prophet_n here_o now_o before_o we_o in_o another_o place_n he_o have_v in_o a_o manner_n resolve_v in_o himself_o that_o he_o will_v trouble_v himself_o no_o more_o with_o they_o that_o he_o will_v keep_v his_o own_o thought_n to_o himself_o in_o his_o own_o mind_n and_o breast_n well_o but_o see_v what_o come_v on_o it_o jer._n 20.8_o 9_o because_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v make_v a_o reproach_n unto_o i_o and_o a_o derision_n daily_o then_o i_o say_v i_o will_v not_o here_o express_v as_o a_o duty_n which_o lie_v upon_o we_o and_o which_o according_o we_o shall_v make_v conscience_n to_o perform_v when_o thou_o be_v convert_v strengthen_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v a_o duty_n which_o belong_v to_o all_o christian_n in_o their_o place_n whosoever_o they_o be_v not_o minister_n only_o but_o other_o indeed_o it_o concern_v minister_n more_o especial_o by_o office_n to_o do_v it_o ministerial_o but_o it_o do_v likewise_o concern_v other_o man_n which_o be_v private_a christian_n in_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n as_o that_o which_o do_v much_o belong_v but_o second_o as_o we_o have_v our_o duty_n here_o express_v as_o concern_v the_o active_a part_n of_o this_o performance_n so_o we_o have_v also_o our_o duty_n employ_v as_o concern_v the_o passive_a part_n of_o it_o likewise_o and_o as_o those_o who_o be_v themselves_o convert_v must_v be_v careful_a to_o strengthen_v their_o brethren_n so_o those_o also_o which_o be_v their_o brethren_n must_v be_v willing_a to_o be_v strengthen_v by_o they_o this_o it_o meet_v with_o another_o distemper_n which_o man_n nature_n be_v subject_a unto_o there_o be_v many_o who_o be_v ready_a to_o fall_v and_o refuse_v to_o be_v strengthen_v and_o there_o be_v other_o who_o be_v ready_a to_o sink_v and_o refuse_v to_o be_v comfort_v now_o such_o as_o these_o be_v to_o be_v here_o mind_v of_o their_o duty_n and_o especial_o strong_a christian_n in_o regard_n of_o weak_a one_o not_o to_o refuse_v and_o disdain_v either_o counsel_n or_o comfort_n from_o they_o what_o think_v such_o a_o man_n shall_v i_o receive_v comfort_n and_o help_v from_o he_o who_o be_v so_o far_o inferior_a to_o i_o both_o in_o ability_n and_o also_o in_o condition_n yes_o even_o from_o he_o though_o breast_n and_o mouth_n of_o our_o brethren_n and_o so_o much_o may_v be_v speak_v of_o the_o first_o point_n intimate_v in_o this_o connexion_n to_o wit_n the_o enlargement_n of_o personal_a conversion_n to_o brotherly_a confirmation_n he_o that_o be_v convert_v himself_o he_o must_v withal_o strengthen_v his_o brethren_n so_o much_o for_o that_o the_o second_o be_v the_o confinement_n of_o brotherly_a confirmation_n to_o personal_a conversion_n he_o that_o will_v strengthen_v his_o brethren_n he_o must_v himself_o be_v first_o of_o all_o convert_v this_o we_o gather_v from_o the_o emphasis_n lay_v upon_o the_o word_n convert_v which_o be_v not_o altogether_o impertinent_a to_o our_o purpose_n that_o man_n who_o be_v himself_o out_o of_o frame_n and_o have_v temptation_n prevail_v upon_o he_o he_o can_v do_v that_o good_a to_o other_o who_o he_o associate_n and_o converse_v withal_o peter_n till_o himself_o be_v convert_v he_o can_v confirm_v or_o strengthen_v his_o brethren_n whether_o in_o comfort_n or_o grace_n when_o we_o say_v he_o can_v do_v it_o this_o hold_v good_a according_a to_o the_o notion_n of_o a_o threefold_a impossibility_n which_o be_v in_o it_o first_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o performance_n second_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o acceptance_n three_o the_o success_n first_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o performance_n he_o can_v strengthen_v his_o brethren_n in_o this_o respect_n who_o be_v himself_o unconvert_v especial_o if_o we_o take_v unconversion_n for_o a_o natural_a and_o unregenerate_a estate_n though_o it_o hold_v true_a also_o of_o a_o state_n of_o decline_v and_o of_o spiritual_a distemper_n the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v this_o because_o person_n in_o such_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v devoid_a of_o those_o grace_n which_o be_v requisite_a to_o such_o a_o performance_n those_o that_o will_v strengthen_v and_o comfort_v other_o they_o must_v have_v some_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o a_o work_n of_o grace_n upon_o their_o own_o heart_n they_o must_v be_v full_a of_o love_n and_o bowel_n and_o pity_n as_o we_o hint_v before_o now_o such_o as_o these_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v not_o they_o have_v no_o sense_n of_o the_o bitterness_n of_o sin_n nor_o of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n nor_o affection_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o other_o barrenness_n and_o self-love_n do_v ill_o dispose_v man_n to_o duty_n of_o communion_n now_o these_o be_v common_o predominant_a in_o such_o person_n as_o these_o be_v therefore_o david_n in_o the_o place_n before_o cite_v lay_v a_o emphasis_n upon_o this_o establish_v i_o with_o thy_o free_a
