flesh_n and_o blood_n in_o the_o world_n those_o thing_n that_o a_o man_n will_v never_o imagine_v especial_o those_o high-grown_a man_n in_o notion_n first_o can_v you_o hate_v sin_n as_o sin_n that_o be_v in_o its_o whole_a nature_n in_o every_o appearance_n of_o it_o in_o its_o first_o motion_n in_o the_o first_o hint_n of_o it_o in_o the_o sin_n that_o be_v most_o dear_a that_o i_o take_v most_o pleasure_n in_o hypocrisy_n in_o its_o act_n towards_o sin_n pick_v and_o choose_v here_o and_o there_o it_o may_v be_v angry_a with_o some_o sin_n that_o disturb_v it_o but_o it_o never_o hate_v it_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v have_v a_o hatred_n of_o sin_n as_o sin_n hate_v the_o first_o of_o the_o first_o as_o it_o be_v though_o it_o come_v never_o so_o glorious_a never_o so_o set_v as_o it_o be_v hate_v it_o as_o sin_v upon_o no_o other_o consideration_n not_o because_o it_o trouble_v my_o conscience_n and_o bring_v i_o to_o hell_n and_o wrath_n and_o render_v i_o unsuitable_a to_o my_o relation_n and_o design_n in_o the_o world_n he_o be_v a_o saint_n look_v to_o it_o the_o very_a embryo_n of_o sin_n the_o sincere_a soul_n hate_v it_o hate_v it_o as_o sin_n second_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v delight_v to_o be_v ashamed_a by_o god_n in_o his_o duty_n in_o his_o act_n lie_v under_o the_o shaming_n of_o god_n and_o make_v pure_o nothing_o in_o its_o own_o eye_n and_o other_o that_o the_o hypocrite_n can_v do_v and_o yet_o a_o poor_a simple_a sincere_a soul_n can_v do_v it_o a_o poor_a soul_n that_o may_v be_v can_v hardly_o speak_v two_o word_n with_o sense_n and_o suitableness_n of_o expression_n yet_o he_o can_v do_v it_o he_o can_v delight_v as_o well_o to_o see_v god_n shame_v his_o soul_n bring_v he_o to_o nothing_o humble_v of_o he_o to_o the_o dust_n as_o if_o he_o be_v to_o be_v in_o the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n take_v pleasure_n in_o his_o humble_v act_n suppose_v god_n deny_v he_o any_o assistance_n in_o a_o duty_n or_o in_o the_o open_n of_o his_o heart_n that_o if_o he_o be_v in_o company_n he_o be_v ashamed_a to_o look_v upon_o his_o own_o heart_n here_o the_o soul_n take_v pleasure_n to_o be_v ashamed_a no_o hypocrite_n can_v endure_v that_o to_o be_v ashamed_a in_o his_o act_n and_o relation_n for_o self-love_n be_v the_o principle_n of_o hypocrisy_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n he_o can_v endure_v to_o be_v out-shined_n that_o be_v the_o wicked_a frame_n of_o he_o if_o a_o saint_n go_v beyond_o he_o in_o grace_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n he_o can_v endure_v it_o and_o therefore_o can_v endure_v to_o be_v ashamed_a oh_o how_o do_v the_o saint_n love_v to_o be_v lay_v low_a before_o god_n that_o they_o may_v have_v the_o pure_a glory_n of_o he_o shine_v upon_o their_o soul_n then_o three_o know_v this_o as_o a_o special_a one_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v bless_v god_n and_o love_v he_o from_o his_o heart_n when_o god_n smite_v he_o in_o his_o dear_a enjoyment_n or_o near_a lust_n wherein_o he_o have_v delight_v take_v away_o his_o comfort_n take_v away_o those_o thing_n he_o have_v enjoy_v former_o and_o he_o can_v love_v christ_n nor_o bless_v he_o in_o his_o heart_n strike_v he_o in_o any_o thing_n that_o the_o eye_n and_o heart_n of_o he_o have_v be_v upon_o he_o secret_o hate_v christ_n now_o a_o saint_n can_v cling_v to_o christ_n love_v he_o secret_o in_o his_o own_o soul_n though_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v as_o a_o enemy_n to_o he_o he_o can_v but_o love_v he_o for_o all_o this_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v do_v this_o take_v away_o what_o please_v his_o nature_n and_o he_o can_v love_v he_o try_v your_o heart_n by_o these_o thing_n four_o know_v this_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v love_v the_o person_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n nor_o a_o saint_n as_o a_o saint_n i_o put_v these_o both_o together_o he_o can_v love_v the_o person_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n for_o he_o never_o have_v the_o glimpse_n of_o his_o glory_n on_o his_o heart_n he_o only_o love_v to_o be_v pardon_v and_o have_v some_o comfort_n from_o he_o but_o he_o never_o find_v his_o heart_n to_o work_v in_o love_n to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o have_v a_o union_n with_o he_o as_o the_o fundamental_a ground_n of_o all_o his_o comfort_n for_o love_v you_o know_v it_o belong_v for_o union_n nor_o he_o can_v love_v a_o saint_n as_o a_o saint_n pure_o but_o a_o saint_n so_o temper_v so_o condition_v he_o can_v love_v a_o poor_a saint_n nor_o a_o weak_a saint_n he_o can_v pure_o close_v with_o he_o and_o have_v his_o bowel_n work_v towards_o he_o pure_o as_o a_o saint_n five_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v go_v on_o in_o any_o spiritual_a work_n or_o service_n for_o christ_n with_o any_o contentment_n with_o any_o pleasure_n without_o sensible_a comfort_n or_o outward_a respect_n pray_v observe_v for_o if_o he_o want_v inward_a sensible_a comfort_n yet_o the_o wind_n of_o man_n will_v fill_v his_o sail_n but_o a_o poor_a saint_n can_v take_v pleasure_n in_o the_o mere_a mention_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o poor_a work_n of_o christ_n wherein_o he_o be_v least_o see_v wherein_o he_o have_v hardly_o a_o name_n only_o with_o shame_n and_o reflection_n this_o will_v try_v and_o sweetness_n and_o his_o soul_n always_o draw_v honey_n with_o marrow_n and_o fatness_n yet_o if_o he_o have_v not_o the_o likeness_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v like_o christ_n he_o be_v not_o outshine_v it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o a_o man_n never_o love_v grace_n for_o grace_n for_o than_o he_o will_v love_v it_o where_o it_o be_v most_o pure_a and_o shine_v most_o glorious_o and_o this_o the_o pharisee_n be_v vex_v at_o they_o hate_v christ_n perfect_o because_o he_o go_v beyond_o they_o and_o be_v a_o conviction_n to_o they_o these_o and_o several_a other_o character_n i_o have_v to_o bid_v you_o beware_v of_o hypocrisy_n as_o christ_n do_v try_v your_o heart_n take_v not_o thing_n up_o in_o ordinary_a and_o common_a way_n be_v not_o unbelieved_a and_o doubt_v that_o be_v outward_a form_n of_o religion_n he_o will_v be_v a_o mere_a formalist_n drudge_a on_o in_o duty_n and_o no_o more_o nothing_o of_o the_o spiritual_a nature_n of_o it_o take_v abundance_n of_o pain_n little_a touch_n upon_o his_o spirit_n that_o move_v he_o and_o together_o with_o education_n have_v go_v on_o as_o in_o a_o tract_n if_o a_o man_n be_v of_o a_o hot_a temper_n and_o constitution_n fiery_a in_o his_o nature_n and_o enter_v on_o religion_n upon_o such_o common_a ground_n and_o ordinary_a frame_n as_o the_o most_o do_v he_o will_v be_v a_o zealous_a man_n exceed_v zealous_a some_o opinion_n or_o other_o some_o particular_a form_n his_o heart_n be_v most_o in_o and_o he_o be_v the_o zealous_a hypocrite_n i_o speak_v of_o he_o will_v stick_v to_o his_o opinion_n and_o hazard_n all_o and_o never_o care_v for_o the_o other_o part_n of_o religion_n if_o they_o can_v but_o maintain_v that_o so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o in_o these_o time_n never_o care_v how_o the_o work_n of_o god_n go_v on_o in_o the_o world_n or_o their_o own_o soul_n so_o they_o have_v their_o opinion_n so_o if_o a_o man_n be_v of_o a_o facile_a and_o easy_a nature_n to_o be_v persuade_v and_o enter_v upon_o religion_n he_o will_v easy_o conclude_v that_o all_o the_o promise_n be_v he_o take_v every_o thing_n for_o grant_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o apply_v it_o to_o his_o own_o soul_n as_o if_o he_o have_v a_o peculiar_a interest_n to_o all_o the_o promise_n and_o so_o grow_v in_o a_o confident_a secure_a frame_n and_o that_o be_v the_o hypocrite_n i_o tell_v you_o be_v confident_a that_o out_o of_o the_o easiness_n of_o his_o nature_n take_v all_o thing_n in_o the_o gospel_n as_o his_o own_o though_o he_o never_o see_v the_o need_n and_o want_v of_o they_o and_o never_o know_v the_o worth_n of_o they_o for_o i_o tell_v you_o that_o self-love_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o hypocrisy_n in_o a_o man_n spirit_n if_o a_o man_n can_v get_v any_o thing_n for_o himself_o as_o self-love_n act_n so_o a_o man_n get_v into_o such_o and_o such_o a_o frame_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o mad_a man_n that_o sit_v at_o a_o port_n that_o when_o all_o the_o ship_n come_v by_o say_v embrace_v the_o gross_a abomination_n of_o popery_n and_o however_o the_o goodness_n of_o our_o god_n have_v be_v abundant_o hold_v forth_o in_o continue_v that_o glorious_a light_n of_o the_o power_n of_o divine_a love_n and_o spiritual_a gospell-principle_n now_o the_o reason_n why_o man_n go_v on_o thus_o be_v first_o because_o they_o never_o have_v the_o sight_n of_o their_o own_o nature_n they_o never_o be_v under_o the_o through-convictions_a of_o their_o sinful_a state_n by_o nature_n only_o breed_v up_o fair_o and_o ingenuous_o in_o the_o gospel_n god_n never_o show_v they_o their_o own_o face_n in_o the_o glass_n of_o the_o law_n only_o they_o have_v look_v on_o the_o law_n with_o their_o own_o eye_n in_o their_o own_o prospect_n it_o be_v impossible_a if_o god_n have_v their_o name_n enroll_v for_o saint_n in_o church_n and_o yet_o have_v a_o jealousy_n of_o their_o own_o hypocrisy_n and_o go_v on_o so_o for_o many_o year_n under_o many_o regret_v and_o wound_n of_o spirit_n they_o have_v many_o twang_v that_o pierce_v they_o sometime_o and_o yet_o the_o conviction_n be_v not_o so_o strong_a as_o to_o show_v they_o their_o miserable_a and_o vile_a estate_n or_o to_o press_v they_o on_o to_o the_o through_o work_n of_o the_o gospel_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v those_o person_n very_o high_a in_o prayer_n and_o very_o able_a to_o speak_v well_o in_o their_o converse_n with_o saint_n but_o they_o never_o meet_v with_o god_n in_o duty_n never_o have_v god_n assistance_n never_o find_v that_o spiritual_a strength_n when_o they_o hear_v man_n anatomise_v of_o soul_n they_o be_v only_o for_o keep_v up_o the_o glorious_a outside_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o outward_a form_n they_o have_v be_v some_o ten_o or_o twenty_o year_n and_o know_v that_o christ_n never_o appear_v to_o they_o and_o yet_o they_o can_v leave_v off_o duty_n conscience_n and_o the_o outward_a rule_n lie_v upon_o they_o still_o this_o be_v very_o common_a and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o saul_n he_o know_v in_o his_o own_o heart_n that_o god_n have_v forsake_v he_o and_o yet_o he_o will_v be_v do_v something_o he_o will_v have_v samuel_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o but_o god_n have_v leave_v he_o he_o know_v in_o his_o own_o conscience_n he_o be_v unsound_a and_o have_v not_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o so_o a_o man_n may_v go_v up_o and_o down_o a_o great_a while_n have_v a_o conscience_n and_o ability_n as_o to_o outward_a act_n and_o yet_o never_o be_v sound_a
god_n improve_n a_o natural_a light_n so_o far_o as_o to_o outward_a act_n that_o he_o can_v choose_v but_o do_v those_o outward_a duty_n and_o yet_o he_o know_v in_o his_o conscience_n that_o he_o never_o meet_v with_o god_n and_o if_o he_o do_v it_o be_v only_o to_o tell_v he_o thou_o be_v not_o sound_a and_o sometime_o he_o break_v out_o in_o extravagancy_n these_o can_v find_v nothing_o in_o their_o heart_n but_o conscience_n will_v be_v press_v they_o on_o still_o to_o keep_v up_o the_o form_n this_o be_v a_o miserable_a soul_n certain_o some_o man_n be_v self-condemned_n and_o it_o be_v in_o a_o general_a kind_n of_o way_n that_o he_o may_v not_o at_o all_o set_v out_o those_o conviction_n but_o those_o that_o have_v their_o conscience_n convince_v of_o particular_a act_n of_o sin_n when_o they_o turn_v professor_n they_o have_v often_o time_n conviction_n as_o to_o those_o act_n but_o let_v a_o man_n have_v never_o such_o a_o daily_a hint_n that_o he_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n yet_o it_o be_v no_o more_o to_o he_o to_o strike_v he_o off_o his_o bottom_n and_o make_v he_o to_o be_v sound_n no_o more_o than_o if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o daily_a sense_n of_o sin_n that_o he_o can_v get_v mortify_v and_o he_o find_v conviction_n not_o so_o sharp_a but_o that_o he_o can_v go_v under_o they_o and_o live_v though_o sometime_o they_o be_v sore_o to_o he_o and_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o conscience_n the_o lord_n power_n come_v not_o in_o with_o the_o conviction_n and_o certain_o those_o soul_n be_v mighty_o startle_v soul_n have_v mighty_a sharp_a conviction_n upon_o their_o up_o o_o take_v heed_n then_o look_v to_o your_o own_o heart_n what_o secret_a hint_n you_o have_v of_o hypocrisy_n you_o that_o have_v live_v long_o under_o the_o gospel_n be_v give_v much_o to_o duty_n look_v to_o your_o own_o heart_n how_o many_o twang_v have_v you_o have_v in_o the_o night-season_n in_o your_o spirit_n you_o never_o meet_v with_o god_n in_o the_o duty_n though_o you_o pray_v well_o and_o read_v well_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o man_n though_o you_o have_v carry_v it_o fair_a up_o and_o down_o the_o world_n what_o inward_a regret_n have_v you_o have_v in_o your_o own_o spirit_n this_o be_v a_o lamentable_a condition_n for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v so_o a_o hypocrite_n that_o a_o man_n go_v on_o under_o the_o conviction_n and_o can_v get_v from_o it_o and_o yet_o go_v on_o in_o duty_n still_o now_o you_o have_v a_o three_o and_o last_o sort_n which_o be_v the_o gross_a sort_n three_o and_o last_o a_o design_v hypocrite_n one_o that_o take_v up_o religion_n for_o some_o particular_a design_n which_o he_o know_v the_o design_n of_o in_o his_o own_o heart_n as_o to_o get_v honour_n or_o profit_n or_o the_o countenance_v of_o some_o particular_a last_n or_o whatever_o it_o be_v mere_o that_o a_o man_n may_v cover_v some_o secret_a lust_n mere_o to_o follow_v the_o opportunity_n and_o season_n of_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o gross_a of_o all_o so_o curious_a in_o a_o spiritual_a hypocrisy_n that_o no_o man_n can_v find_v they_o out_o they_o have_v some_o old_a blot_n upon_o their_o conscience_n that_o they_o will_v take_v off_o by_o a_o new_a way_n of_o act_v take_v it_o off_o from_o the_o sight_n of_o other_o and_o be_v account_v as_o new_a i_o only_o give_v you_o these_o in_o general_a they_o have_v some_o secret_a corruption_n that_o be_v their_o darling_n lust_n that_o they_o will_v nourish_v this_o be_v now_o to_o be_v a_o stage-player_n indeed_o when_o i_o know_v i_o be_o a_o beggar_n and_o yet_o shall_v put_v on_o the_o robe_n of_o a_o prince_n when_o i_o know_v i_o have_v that_o unsoundness_n in_o my_o heart_n and_o yet_o will_v be_v account_v a_o sincere_a saint_n and_o will_v do_v something_o that_o shall_v cover_v my_o corruption_n and_o i_o will_v do_v duty_n because_o i_o will_v get_v such_o a_o honour_n that_o be_v a_o most_o shameful_a way_n these_o be_v the_o wicked_a sort_n of_o man_n in_o the_o imitation_n by_o converse_n by_o custom_n and_o use_v in_o that_o duty_n such_o a_o art_n that_o there_o be_v nothing_o either_o belong_v to_o prayer_n or_o the_o exact_a performance_n of_o it_o outward_o but_o he_o have_v it_o with_o more_o abundant_a curiosity_n than_o the_o best_a saint_n have_v that_o he_o strive_v to_o perfect_v himself_o in_o exceed_o but_o take_v this_o for_o the_o general_a rule_n that_o be_v rather_o from_o a_o art_n than_o from_o the_o spirit_n prayer_n and_o many_o time_n he_o get_v the_o art_n so_o curious_o that_o he_o refresh_v many_o saint_n and_o poor_a soul_n by_o it_o though_o he_o have_v little_a of_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o on_o his_o own_o heart_n he_o act_v that_o part_n so_o exact_o and_o careful_o to_o the_o sight_n of_o man_n that_o it_o be_v with_o god_n the_o more_o he_o get_v up_o his_o soul_n the_o divine_a nature_n get_v more_o breath_n and_o strength_n by_o breathe_v after_o god_n the_o long_a it_o breathe_v the_o strong_a it_o breathe_v a_o hypocrite_n have_v much_o ado_n to_o keep_v up_o his_o affection_n to_o the_o first_o start_n either_o private_o or_o public_o hardly_o able_a to_o keep_v in_o his_o spirit_n but_o he_o be_v at_o a_o loss_n as_o to_o the_o divine_a nature_n of_o those_o thing_n as_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o they_o therefore_o he_o be_v fain_o to_o pump_n and_o strain_n for_o expression_n when_o his_o affection_n be_v lose_v this_o you_o will_v find_v as_o a_o perfect_a secret_a in_o your_o own_o heart_n that_o know_v and_o be_v privy_a to_o your_o own_o soul_n the_o spirit_n may_v indeed_o withdraw_v sometime_o but_o take_v it_o common_o and_o ordinary_o the_o soul_n be_v never_o so_o move_v as_o when_o it_o be_v touch_v in_o the_o heart_n but_o a_o hypocrite_n you_o shall_v have_v his_o duty_n do_v very_o sleightlie_o at_o the_o latter_a end_n when_o there_o shall_v be_v most_o vigour_n but_o you_o shall_v find_v the_o duty_n of_o saint_n when_o once_o the_o soul_n begin_v to_o get_v heat_n and_o warmth_n with_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n and_o sense_n
of_o want_n and_o pure_a thought_n of_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o can_v pray_v everlastinglie_o if_o he_o have_v a_o body_n fit_a to_o his_o soul_n he_o can_v be_v always_o pray_v and_o though_o a_o saint_n may_v fail_v in_o expression_n towards_o the_o latter_a end_n yet_o his_o affection_n be_v high_a he_o can_v hardly_o leave_v christ_n or_o the_o thought_n of_o he_o he_o will_v be_v always_o with_o he_o there_o be_v abundance_n of_o ado_n to_o get_v up_o our_o heart_n to_o any_o frame_n but_o when_o once_o it_o be_v up_o and_o go_v on_o with_o the_o strength_n of_o god_n than_o he_o find_v new_a assistance_n every_o moment_n come_v in_o you_o shall_v have_v a_o hypocrite_n at_o first_o like_o a_o fountain_n flow_v in_o expression_n but_o he_o begin_v to_o grow_v low_a last_o as_o to_o faith_n and_o spiritual_a working_n in_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o this_o my_o brethren_n will_v a_o little_a inform_v you_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o hypocrisy_n as_o to_o prayer_n for_o a_o hypocrite_n act_n for_o himself_o and_o from_o self-strength_n and_o any_o artificial_a motion_n as_o a_o clock_n or_o so_o grow_v slow_a at_o latter_o end_n until_o it_o be_v wind_v up_o
