think_v may_v be_v say_v against_o it_o then_o for_o it_o 2._o i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v either_o false_a or_o reconcileable_a with_o god_n holiness_n and_o man_n liberty_n and_o culpability_n so_o that_o its_o a_o mad_a thing_n to_o deceive_v your_o self_n with_o such_o philosophical_a uncertainty_n when_o the_o truth_n which_o you_o oppose_v by_o it_o be_v infallible_o certain_a that_o god_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n but_o man_n himself_o who_o be_v just_o condemn_v for_o it_o be_v undoubted_o true_a and_o will_v you_o obscure_v so_o clear_a a_o truth_n by_o search_v into_o point_n beyond_o human_a reach_n if_o not_o unsound_a as_o you_o conclude_v they_o the_o four_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n but_o at_o least_o those_o learned_a divine_n among_o we_o that_o doubt_v of_o this_o do_v yet_o say_v that_o the_o will_n be_v necessary_o and_o infallble_o determine_v by_o the_o practical_a understanding_n and_o that_o be_v as_o much_o unresistible_o necessitate_v by_o object_n and_o therefore_o whatever_o act_n be_v do_v by_o my_o understanding_n or_o will_n be_v thus_o necessitate_v and_o i_o can_v not_o help_v it_o theâ—_n say_v liberty_n be_v but_o the_o act_n of_o the_o faculty_n aggreeable_o to_o its_o nature_n and_o it_o be_v god_n as_o creator_n that_o give_v adam_n his_o faculty_n and_o god_n by_o providential_a dtspose_n that_o present_v all_o object_n to_o he_o by_o which_o high_a understanding_n and_o so_o his_o will_n be_v unvoidable_o necessitate_v answ_n this_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o former_a uncertain_a if_o noâ—_n certain_o false_a be_v this_o true_a for_o aught_o we_o can_v see_v it_o will_v lay_v all_o the_o sin_n and_o misery_n of_o this_o world_n on_o god_n as_o the_o unresistible_a necessitate_v cause_n which_o because_o we_o know_v infallible_o to_o be_v false_a we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o take_v such_o principle_n to_o be_v true_a which_o infer_v it_o the_o understanding_n do_v not_o right_a so_o be_v not_o the_o understanding_n guidance_n necessary_a to_o my_o willing_a there_o the_o simple_a apprehension_n may_v suffice_v but_o to_o my_o right_a willing_a there_o be_v other_o way_n of_o determine_v the_o will_n or_o if_o the_o understanding_n do_v determine_v the_o will_n efficient_o and_o necessary_o it_o be_v not_o every_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n that_o must_v do_v it_o if_o it_o be_v so_o when_o it_o say_v this_o must_v be_v do_v and_o say_v it_o importunate_o yet_o not_o when_o it_o only_o say_v this_o may_v be_v do_v or_o you_o may_v venture_v on_o it_o which_o be_v the_o common_a part_n which_o it_o have_v in_o sin_n i_o be_o not_o please_v that_o these_o curious_a objection_n fall_v in_o the_o way_n nor_o do_v i_o delight_v to_o put_v they_o into_o vulgar_a head_n but_o find_v many_o young_a scholar_n and_o other_o that_o have_v convert_v with_o they_o assault_v with_o these_o temptation_n i_o think_v meet_v to_o give_v a_o touch_n and_o but_o action_n and_o the_o curious_a engine_n by_o which_o god_n do_v sapiential_o govern_v the_o world_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n consider_v that_o the_o soul_n can_v know_v itself_o but_o by_o reflection_n and_o god_n give_v we_o a_o soul_n to_o use_v rather_o than_o to_o know_v itself_o and_o to_o know_v its_o quality_n and_o operation_n rather_o than_o its_o essence_n the_o five_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n no_o man_n can_v be_v save_v nor_o avoid_v any_o sin_n nor_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o those_o who_o god_n have_v predestinate_v thereto_o i_o be_v under_o a_o irreversible_a sentence_n for_o the_o safety_n of_o your_o soul_n and_o for_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o where_o have_v he_o bid_v you_o do_v so_o for_o your_o body_n no_o he_o know_v that_o you_o be_v prone_a to_o do_v too_o much_o for_o they_o and_o therefore_o he_o have_v bid_v you_o care_n not_o and_o labour_v not_o that_o be_v do_v it_o as_o if_o you_o do_v it_o not_o and_o let_v your_o care_n and_o labour_n for_o earthly_a thing_n be_v none_o in_o comparision_n of_o that_o for_o heavenly_a thing_n you_o know_v god_n can_v as_o well_o maintain_v your_o life_n without_o your_o care_n and_o labour_n as_o save_v your_o soul_n without_o it_o and_o yet_o you_o see_v he_o will_v not_o he_o do_v not_o you_o must_v plough_v and_o sow_v and_o reap_v and_o thresh_v for_o all_o god_n love_n and_o care_n of_o you_o and_o not_o say_v i_o will_v let_v all_o alone_a and_o trust_n god_n and_o must_v you_o not_o much_o more_o use_v diligence_n in_o much_o great_a thing_n if_o you_o will_v trust_v god_n you_o must_v trust_v he_o in_o his_o own_o way_n and_o in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o own_o mean_n the_o four_o excuse_n i_o be_v never_o bring_v up_o to_o learning_n i_o can_v so_o much_o as_o read_v nor_o do_v my_o parent_n ever_o teach_v i_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n but_o only_o set_v i_o about_o my_o worldly_a business_n and_o provide_v food_n and_o raiment_n for_o i_o but_o never_o once_o tell_v i_o that_o i_o have_v a_o soul_n to_o save_v or_o lose_v and_o and_o a_o everlasting_a life_n to_o provide_v and_o prepare_v for_o and_o therefore_o i_o can_v not_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o they_o answ_n the_o great_a be_v their_o sin_n who_o thus_o neglect_v you_o but_o this_o be_v no_o sufficient_a excuse_n for_o you_o heaven_n be_v not_o prepare_v for_o the_o learned_a only_o nor_o will_v christ_n ask_v you_o at_o judgement_n whether_o you_o be_v good_a scholar_n or_o not_o no_o nor_o so_o much_o as_o whether_o you_o can_v write_v or_o read_v but_o consider_v well_o be_v not_o god_n word_n so_o plain_o write_v that_o the_o unlearned_a may_v understand_v it_o do_v he_o not_o put_v it_o into_o the_o most_o familiar_a stile_n though_o he_o know_v it_o will_v be_v offensive_a to_o the_o proud_a scholar_n of_o the_o world_n of_o purpose_n that_o he_o may_v fit_v it_o to_o the_o capacity_n of_o the_o ignorant_a and_o if_o you_o can_v not_o read_v yet_o tell_v i_o can_v not_o you_o have_v learned_a to_o read_v at_o 20_o or_o 30_o year_n of_o age_n if_o you_o have_v be_v but_o willing_a to_o bestow_v now_o and_o then_o a_o hour_n to_o that_o end_n or_o at_o least_o do_v you_o not_o live_v near_o some_o that_o can_v read_v and_o can_v you_o not_o have_v procure_v they_o to_o read_v to_o you_o or_o to_o help_v you_o and_o do_v you_o not_o hear_v these_o thing_n read_v to_o
you_o in_o the_o congregation_n by_o the_o minister_n or_o may_v have_v do_v if_o you_o will_v and_o if_o your_o parent_n do_v neglect_v you_o in_o your_o youth_n yet_o when_o you_o come_v to_o a_o full_a use_n of_o reason_n and_o hear_v of_o the_o matter_n of_o salvation_n from_o god_n word_n do_v it_o not_o concern_v you_o to_o have_v look_v to_o yourselves_o and_o to_o have_v redeem_v that_o time_n which_o you_o lose_v in_o your_o youth_n by_o double_v your_o diligence_n when_o you_o come_v to_o ripe_a year_n the_o apostle_n gather_v church_n among_o heathen_n that_o never_o hear_v of_o christ_n before_o and_o convert_v many_o thousand_o soul_n that_o be_v never_o once_o tell_v of_o a_o saviour_n or_o the_o way_n to_o salvation_n till_o they_o have_v past_o a_o great_a part_n of_o their_o live_v if_o you_o loiter_v till_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o day_n it_o behove_v you_o then_o to_o have_v bestir_v yourselves_o the_o more_o and_o not_o to_o say_v through_o the_o fault_n of_o my_o parent_n i_o lose_v the_o beginning_n of_o my_o life_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v lose_v all_o they_o teach_v i_o not_o then_o &_o therefore_o i_o will_v not_o learn_v now_o have_v you_o not_o see_v some_o of_o your_o neighbour_n who_o be_v as_o ill_o educate_v as_o yourselves_o attain_v to_o much_o knowledge_n afterward_o by_o their_o industry_n and_o why_o may_v not_o you_o have_v do_v so_o if_o you_o have_v be_v as_o industrious_a as_o they_o may_v not_o god_n and_o conscience_n witness_v that_o it_o be_v because_o you_o care_v not_o for_o knowledge_n and_o will_v not_o not_o rather_o careless_o neglect_v these_o matter_n and_o hear_v a_o sermon_n as_o a_o common_a tale_n even_o when_o the_o minister_n be_v speak_v of_o heaven_n or_o of_o hell_n it_o be_v not_o then_o thy_o unavoidable_a ignorance_n but_o thy_o negligence_n yea_o further_o answer_v as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n do_v thou_o obey_v so_o far_o as_o thou_o do_v know_v or_o do_v thou_o not_o rather_o sin_v against_o that_o knowledge_n which_o thou_o have_v thou_o know_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v better_a than_o the_o body_n and_o everlasting_a life_n more_o to_o be_v regard_v then_o may_v you_o not_o have_v go_v where_o a_o powerful_a minister_n be_v with_o a_o little_a pain_n yea_o do_v not_o the_o very_a plain_a word_n that_o you_o hear_v read_v tell_v you_o of_o these_o thing_n and_o may_v you_o not_o have_v have_v a_o bible_n yourselves_o and_o find_v they_o there_o the_o six_o excuse_n i_o be_v a_o servant_n and_o have_v no_o time_n from_o my_o labour_n to_o mind_v these_o matter_n i_o live_v with_o a_o hard_a master_n that_o require_v all_o his_o own_o work_n of_o i_o but_o will_v allow_v i_o no_o time_n for_o the_o service_n of_o god_n or_o else_o i_o be_v a_o poor_a man_n and_o have_v a_o great_a charge_n to_o look_v after_z and_o with_o my_o hard_a labour_n have_v much_o ado_n to_o live_v so_o that_o i_o have_v no_o time_n for_o heavenly_a thing_n answ_n 1_o who_o shall_v be_v first_o serve_v god_n or_o man_n what_o shall_v be_v first_o seek_v after_o heaven_n or_o earth_n do_v not_o christ_n cell_n thou_o one_o thing_n be_v necessary_a luke_n 10._o 41_o 42_o be_v it_o not_o as_o needful_a to_o see_v that_o you_o escape_v damnation_n and_o get_v safe_a to_o heaven_n when_o this_o life_n be_v end_v as_o to_o see_v that_o you_o have_v food_n and_o raiment_n for_o yourselves_o and_o you_o 2._o do_v you_o spend_v no_o time_n in_o recreation_n nor_o idleness_n nor_o vain_a talk_n why_o may_v not_o that_o at_o least_o have_v be_v spend_v about_o heavenly_a thing_n 3._o can_v you_o have_v take_v no_o time_n from_o your_o rest_n or_o eat_v or_o at_o other_o intermission_n man_n body_n will_v not_o endure_v so_o great_a labour_n as_o have_v no_o intermission_n and_o why_o then_o may_v not_o godliness_n have_v be_v your_o ease_n and_o recreation_n 4._o or_o may_v you_o not_o have_v mind_v these_o thing_n even_o when_o you_o be_v about_o your_o labour_n if_o you_o have_v but_o a_o heart_n to_o they_o 5._o at_o least_o you_o may_v have_v spend_v the_o lord_n own_o day_n in_o hear_v read_v and_o ponder_v of_o these_o matter_n when_o you_o be_v force_v to_o forbear_v your_o worldly_a labour_n even_o by_o the_o wholesome_a law_n of_o the_o land_n these_o therefore_o be_v all_o but_o vain_a excuse_n and_o god_n will_v short_o make_v thou_o speak_v out_o and_o plain_o confess_v it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o for_o want_v of_o time_n or_o help_n or_o warning_n as_o for_o want_v of_o a_o heart_n to_o use_v they_o well_o i_o shall_v have_v find_v some_o time_n though_o it_o have_v be_v when_o i_o shall_v have_v sleep_v if_o my_o heart_n have_v be_v but_o set_v upon_o it_o the_o seven_o excuse_n little_o do_v i_o think_v â—o_o have_v see_v this_o day_n i_o do_v not_o believe_v that_o ever_o god_n will_v be_v so_o severe_a i_o think_v his_o threaten_n have_v be_v but_o to_o keep_v man_n in_o awe_n and_o i_o suspect_v either_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o his_o word_n or_o else_o i_o think_v he_o will_v be_v better_o than_o his_o word_n i_o think_v all_o that_o i_o hear_v of_o another_o life_n have_v be_v uncertain_a and_o therefore_o be_v loath_a to_o let_v go_v a_o certainty_n for_o a_o uncertainty_n and_o lose_v my_o present_a pleasure_n which_o i_o have_v in_o hand_n for_o the_o hope_n of_o that_o which_o i_o never_o do_v see_v answ_n he_o that_o will_v not_o know_v his_o misery_n by_o believe_v to_o prevent_v it_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o feeling_n to_o endure_v it_o you_o be_v tell_v and_o tell_v again_o what_o your_o unbelief_n will_v bring_v you_o to_o do_v god_n word_n make_v heaven_n and_o earth_n do_v it_o support_v they_o and_o secure_v they_o and_o be_v not_o his_o word_n sufficient_a security_n for_o you_o to_o have_v trust_v your_o soul_n upon_o do_v you_o know_v where_o be_v any_o better_a security_n to_o be_v have_v and_o where_o be_v any_o sure_a ground_n for_o your_o confidence_n and_o do_v you_o think_v so_o base_o and_o blasphemous_o of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v falsify_v his_o word_n lest_o such_o as_o you_o shall_v suffer_v and_o that_o he_o be_v fain_o to_o rule_v the_o world_n by_o a_o lie_n do_v god_n make_v the_o world_n so_o easy_o and_o can_v he_o not_o govern_v it_o by_o true_a and_o righteous_a mean_n what_o need_n god_n to_o say_v that_o which_o he_o will_v not_o do_v to_o awe_v sinner_n can_v he_o not_o awe_v they_o by_o truth_n be_v it_o not_o just_a that_o those_o shall_v eternal_o perish_v that_o will_v entertain_v such_o desperate_a thought_n of_o god_n and_o then_o by_o such_o wicked_a imagination_n encourage_v themselves_o in_o sin_n against_o he_o and_o for_o the_o truth_n of_o scripture_n god_n do_v not_o bid_v you_o believe_v it_o without_o evidence_n he_o stamp_v on_o it_o the_o image_n of_o his_o own_o purity_n and_o perfection_n that_o you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o that_o image_n and_o superscription_n if_o you_o have_v eye_n to_o see_v they_o he_o seal_v it_o by_o uncontrolled_a multitude_n of_o miracle_n he_o deliver_v it_o down_o to_o your_o hand_n by_o infallible_a witness_n so_o that_o he_o leave_v you_o no_o room_n for_o rational_a doubt_v and_o you_o know_v that_o the_o matter_n
not_o believe_v aâ—d_v he_o alâ—o_o shall_v be_v there_o the_o godly_a that_o wait_v in_o hope_n for_o that_o day_n as_o the_o day_n of_o their_o â—ull_a deliverance_n &_o coronation_n â—hey_n shall_v be_v there_o those_o that_o have_v lie_v in_o the_o dust_n these_o 5000._o year_n shall_v rise_v again_o and_o all_o stand_v there_o hearer_n whoever_o thou_o be_v believe_v it_o thou_o may_v better_o have_v any_o just_a reason_n to_o think_v it_o be_v uncertain_a their_o carelessness_n be_v more_o excusable_a methinks_v a_o man_n shall_v be_v affect_v with_o that_o which_o he_o be_v certain_a shall_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o a_o manner_n as_o if_o it_o be_v now_o in_o do_v â—_o these_o 5._o 2._o you_o perfect_o know_v that_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n so_o come_v etc._n etc._n say_v the_o apostle_n 4._o this_o day_n be_v not_o only_o certain_a but_o it_o be_v neâ—r_n and_o therefore_o shall_v affect_v you_o the_o more_o i_o confess_v if_o it_o be_v never_o so_o far_o off_o yet_o see_v it_o will_v come_v at_o last_o it_o shall_v be_v careful_o regard_v but_o when_o the_o judge_n be_v at_o the_o door_n jam._n 5._o 9_o and_o we_o be_v almost_o at_o the_o bar_n and_o it_o be_v so_o short_a a_o time_n to_o this_o assize_n what_o soul_n that_o be_v not_o dead_a will_v be_v secure_a alas_o sir_n what_o be_v a_o little_a time_n when_o it_o be_v go_v how_o quick_o shall_v you_o and_o i_o be_v all_o in_o another_o world_n and_o our_o soul_n receive_v their_o particular_a judgement_n and_o so_o wait_v till_o the_o body_n be_v raise_v and_o judge_v to_o same_o condition_n it_o be_v not_o a_o 100_o year_n in_o all_o likelihood_n till_o every_o soul_n of_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n or_o hell_n and_o its_o like_a not_o half_a or_o a_o quarter_n of_o that_o time_n but_o it_o will_v be_v so_o with_o the_o great_a part_n of_o we_o and_o what_o be_v a_o year_n or_o two_o or_o a_o 100_o how_o speedy_o be_v it_o come_v how_o many_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v now_o in_o heaven_n or_o hell_n within_o a_o 1000_o year_n dwell_v in_o the_o place_n that_o you_o now_o dwell_v in_o and_o sit_v in_o the_o seat_n you_o now_o sit_v in_o and_o now_o their_o time_n be_v past_a what_o be_v it_o alas_o how_o quick_o will_v it_o be_v so_o with_o we_o you_o know_v not_o when_o you_o go_v to_o bed_n but_o you_o may_v be_v judge_v by_o the_o next_o morning_n or_o when_o you_o rise_v but_o you_o may_v be_v judge_v before_o night_n but_o certain_o you_o know_v that_o short_o it_o will_v be_v and_o shall_v not_o this_o then_o be_v lay_v to_o heart_n yea_o the_o general_a judgement_n will_v lt_v no_o be_v long_o for_o certain_o we_o live_v in_o the_o end_n of_o world_n qu._n 4._o my_o next_o question_n be_v whether_o be_v you_o ready_a for_o this_o dreadful_a judgement_n when_o it_o come_v or_o not_o see_v it_o be_v yourselves_o then_o must_v be_v try_v i_o think_v it_o concern_v you_o to_o see_v that_o you_o be_v prepare_v how_o often_o have_v christ_n warn_v we_o in_o the_o gospel_n that_o we_o be_v always_o ready_a because_o we_o know_v not_o the_o day_n or_o hour_n of_o his_o come_n mat._n 24._o 44._o 42._o and_o 25._o 13._o 1_o thes_n 5._o 6._o and_o tell_v we_o how_o sad_a a_o time_n it_o will_v be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v unready_a mat._n 25._o 11_o 12._o do_v man_n but_o well_o know_v what_o a_o meeting_n and_o greet_v there_o will_v be_v between_o christ_n and_o a_o unready_a soul_n it_o will_v sure_o startle_v they_o and_o make_v they_o look_v about_o they_o what_o say_v you_o belove_a hearer_n be_v you_o ready_a for_o judgement_n or_o be_v you_o not_o i_o think_v a_o man_n that_o know_v he_o shall_v be_v judge_v shall_v ask_v himself_o the_o question_n every_o day_n of_o his_o life_n be_o i_o ready_a to_o give_v up_o my_o account_n to_o god_n do_v not_o you_o use_v to_o ask_v this_o of_o your_o own_o heart_n unless_o you_o be_v careless_a whether_o you_o be_v save_v or_o damn_v i_o think_v you_o shall_v and_o ask_v it_o serious_o qu._n but_o who_o be_v they_o that_o be_v ready_a how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o i_o be_v ready_a or_o not_o answ_n there_o be_v a_o twofold_a readiness_n 1._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o safe_a case_n 2._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o comfortable_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o day_n the_o latter_a be_v very_o desirable_a but_o the_o first_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n this_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o you_o must_v principal_o inquire_v after_o in_o general_n all_o those_o and_o only_o those_o be_v ready_a for_o judgement_n who_o shall_v be_v justify_v and_o save_v and_o not_o condemn_v when_o judgement_n come_v they_o that_o have_v a_o good_a cause_n in_o a_o gospel_n sense_n it_o may_v be_v know_v before_o hand_n who_o these_o be_v for_o christ_n judge_v as_o i_o tell_v you_o by_o his_o law_n and_o therefore_o find_v out_o who_o it_o be_v that_o the_o law_n of_o grace_n do_v justify_v or_o condemn_v and_o you_o may_v certain_o know_v who_o the_o judge_n will_v justify_v or_o condemn_v for_o he_o judge_v righteous_o if_o you_o further_o ask_v i_o who_o these_o be_v remember_v that_o i_o tell_v you_o before_o that_o every_o man_n that_o be_v personal_o righteous_a by_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n of_o salvation_n in_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v save_v and_o he_o that_o be_v find_v unrighteous_a as_o have_v not_o fulfil_v they_o shall_v perish_v at_o that_o day_n qu._n who_o be_v those_o answ_n i_o will_v tell_v you_o they_o in_o a_o few_o word_n lest_o you_o shall_v forget_v because_o it_o it_o a_o matter_n that_o your_o spirit_n of_o christ_n shall_v be_v justify_v but_o all_o other_o shall_v certain_o be_v condemn_v good_a news_n to_o repent_v convert_v sinner_n but_o sad_a to_o impenitent_a and_o he_o that_o know_v not_o what_o this_o mean_n 2._o that_o soul_n that_o feel_v his_o misery_n under_o sin_n and_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n do_v believe_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v and_o suffer_v for_o man_n restauration_n &_o salvation_n and_o thankful_o accept_v he_o as_o his_o only_a saviour_n and_o lord_n on_o the_o term_n that_o he_o be_v offer_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o to_o those_o end_n even_o to_o justify_v he_o and_o sanctify_v and_o guide_v he_o and_o bring_v he_o at_o last_o to_o everlasting_a glory_n that_o soul_n shall_v be_v justify_v at_o judgement_n and_o he_o that_o do_v not_o shall_v be_v condemn_v or_o in_o short_a in_o scripture_n phrase_n he_o that_o believe_v shall_v be_v save_v and_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v condemn_v mar._n 16._o 16._o 3._o the_o soul_n that_o have_v have_v so_o much_o knowledge_n of_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o his_o love_n to_o man_n in_o creation_n redemption_n and_o the_o follow_a mercy_n
