they_o according_o to_o be_v a_o place_n and_o perfect_a rest_n peace_n tranquillity_n safety_n and_o security_n to_o all_o that_o come_v thither_o there_o be_v no_o evil_a that_o can_v approach_v that_o habitation_n so_o those_o place_n or_o building_n on_o earth_n that_o either_o by_o common_a consent_n of_o man_n have_v immunity_n and_o privilege_n to_o save_v and_o protect_v from_o outward_a violence_n those_o that_o be_v find_v in_o they_o except_v happy_o some_o particular_a case_n as_o all_o temple_n consecrate_v to_o divine_a worship_n whether_o of_o the_o true_a or_o sanctuary_n so_o that_o when_o god_n promise_v to_o be_v a_o sanctuary_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v sanctify_v he_o the_o meaning_n be_v that_o he_o will_v be_v a_o protector_n and_o defender_n of_o they_o he_o will_v take_v care_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o their_o peace_n and_o welfare_n 4._o and_o that_o be_v remarkable_a in_o the_o prophet_n expression_n that_o he_o do_v not_o say_v that_o god_n will_v provide_v or_o look_v out_o a_o sanctuary_n for_o they_o but_o that_o he_o himself_o will_v be_v a_o sanctuary_n unto_o they_o by_o which_o kind_n of_o expression_n he_o seem_v desirous_a to_o wax_n so_o be_v the_o great_a god_n then_o sanctify_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n indeed_o when_o there_o be_v no_o attribute_n in_o god_n but_o you_o may_v find_v it_o there_o and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o the_o nature_n or_o kind_n of_o it_o but_o in_o the_o proportion_n or_o dimension_n of_o it_o too_o as_o when_o not_o only_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n be_v find_v in_o our_o love_n to_o he_o but_o the_o proportion_n of_o his_o goodness_n find_v in_o the_o measure_n &_o degree_n of_o our_o love_n &_o so_o not_o only_o his_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n find_v in_o or_o dependence_n upon_o he_o but_o the_o unquestionablenesse_n or_o infallibility_n of_o his_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n find_v in_o the_o freeness_n willingness_n strength_n and_o entireness_n of_o our_o dependence_n upon_o he_o and_o so_o in_o other_o his_o attribute_n 7_o not_o as_o if_o we_o be_v able_a to_o draw_v the_o full_a proportiof_n god_n attribute_n which_o we_o know_v be_v all_o infinite_a in_o the_o narrow_a compass_n of_o our_o heart_n or_o affection_n there_o be_v no_o room_n or_o space_n for_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v infinite_a to_o stand_v there_o in_o its_o positive_a and_o proper_a notion_n as_o for_o example_n a_o creature_n can_v love_v god_n with_o any_o such_o infiniteness_n of_o affection_n as_o god_n goodness_n be_v infinite_a in_o he_o but_o yet_o the_o infiniteness_n of_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n may_v be_v thus_o represent_v in_o our_o love_n and_o affection_n to_o he_o we_o may_v love_v he_o with_o a_o love_n strong_a and_o great_a than_o any_o love_n we_o bear_v to_o the_o creature_n or_o know_v that_o we_o ought_v to_o bear_v unto_o any_o creature_n whatsoever_o and_o this_o be_v interpretative_o infinite_a that_o be_v it_o be_v such_o love_n as_o plain_o confess_v and_o acknowledge_v the_o object_n of_o it_o to_o be_v infinite_a the_o same_o be_v to_o be_v conceive_v touch_v all_o other_o holy_a impression_n disposition_n and_o inclination_n raise_v in_o the_o heart_n or_o soul_n by_o a_o due_a consideration_n of_o the_o attribute_n of_o god_n as_o for_o those_o other_o three_o thing_n mention_v right_a apprehension_n of_o the_o nature_n and_o infinity_n of_o these_o divine_a perfection_n or_o attribute_n the_o settle_a belief_n or_o persuasion_n of_o their_o be_v in_o god_n together_o with_o a_o effectual_a consideration_n of_o they_o as_o unite_z and_o seat_v in_o he_o these_o i_o conceive_v be_v not_o part_n of_o this_o duty_n this_o sanctify_v of_o god_n but_o rather_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n or_o soul_n precedent_o requisite_a and_o necessary_a thereunto_o a_o man_n can_v possible_o sanctify_v god_n with_o that_o internal_a and_o special_a sanctification_n which_o this_o scripture_n principal_o require_v and_o which_o have_v in_o part_n be_v describe_v without_o somewhat_o do_v more_o or_o less_o in_o all_o these_o he_o that_o either_o know_v not_o what_o infinite_a love_n infinite_a wisdom_n power_n etc._n etc._n mean_a and_o import_v or_o believe_v not_o that_o such_o nature_n be_v indeed_o in_o god_n in_o their_o infiniteness_n or_o last_o do_v not_o affectuous_o contemplate_v or_o consider_v these_o thing_n in_o he_o can_v never_o work_v his_o heart_n to_o that_o close_a and_o entire_a dependence_n upon_o god_n which_o be_v the_o special_a sanctification_n of_o he_o require_v there_o &_o elsewhere_o in_o the_o scripture_n 8_o for_o that_o in_o a_o word_n be_v further_a to_o be_v consider_v that_o howsoever_o the_o phrase_n and_o expression_n of_o sanctify_a god_n in_o the_o scripture_n be_v indifferent_o use_v for_o the_o sanctification_n of_o he_o in_o any_o kind_n that_o be_v for_o they_o agnify_v of_o he_o in_o any_o one_o of_o his_o attribute_n whether_o love_n mercy_n goodness_n wisdom_n power_n etc._n etc._n particular_o yet_o it_o be_v in_o special_a manner_n and_o with_o great_a propriety_n and_o as_o i_o take_v it_o more_o frequent_o use_v for_o that_o sanctification_n of_o he_o which_o be_v by_o dependence_n or_o reliance_n on_o he_o this_o of_o all_o other_o act_n or_o kind_n of_o
sanctify_a god_n perform_v by_o the_o creature_n be_v the_o great_a and_o of_o most_o acceptation_n with_o he_o because_o it_o be_v a_o magnify_v or_o glorify_v of_o he_o in_o many_o attribute_n at_o once_o and_o those_o in_o who_o manifestation_n and_o glory_n he_o be_v best_o satisfy_v and_o delight_v a_o man_n may_v sanctify_v god_n in_o his_o mercy_n or_o in_o his_o wisdom_n or_o in_o his_o power_n or_o in_o his_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n several_o and_o apart_o when_o he_o do_v not_o exercise_v any_o special_a act_n of_o dependence_n upon_o he_o a_o man_n may_v either_o in_o word_n or_o discourse_n or_o else_o in_o mind_n and_o apprehension_n or_o both_o single_a out_o any_o attribute_n of_o god_n from_o all_o its_o fellow_n he_o may_v exalt_v and_o magnify_v the_o power_n of_o god_n alone_o by_o itself_o without_o put_v any_o glory_n in_o one_o kind_n or_o other_o upon_o any_o other_o attribute_n but_o he_o that_o actual_o depend_v upon_o god_n magnify_v they_o all_o and_o so_o sanctify_v god_n in_o they_o all_o for_o if_o a_o man_n doubt_n or_o question_n whether_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n want_v in_o god_n either_o in_o nature_n or_o perfection_n either_o in_o kind_n or_o degree_n to_o make_v he_o a_o god_n indeed_o a_o god_n meet_v or_o worthy_a to_o be_v rely_v upon_o such_o a_o man_n will_v never_o be_v whole_a and_o entire_a and_o close_o in_o his_o dependence_n upon_o he_o there_o will_v be_v some_o falter_v and_o fumble_v as_o it_o be_v and_o rustiness_n in_o his_o faith_n the_o heart_n and_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n will_v still_o boggle_v and_o make_v a_o stand_n and_o demur_v yea_o and_o be_v ready_a to_o give_v back_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o be_v not_o the_o greatness_n of_o god_n alone_o that_o will_v make_v the_o creature_n depend_v on_o he_o neither_o be_v it_o his_o power_n alone_o that_o will_v do_v it_o nor_o his_o faithfulness_n alone_o no_o but_o there_o must_v be_v a_o concurrence_n of_o all_o these_o and_z other_o too_o in_o god_n to_o make_v he_o a_o god_n in_o case_n of_o great_a difficulty_n and_o danger_n to_o be_v depend_v on_o therefore_o now_o when_o the_o creature_n do_v indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n and_o with_o all_o the_o weight_n of_o his_o soul_n cast_v himself_o upon_o god_n and_o depend_v on_o he_o he_o sanctifi_v god_n not_o in_o one_o or_o some_o but_o in_o many_o or_o rather_o indeed_o in_o all_o his_o attribute_n and_o perfection_n and_o this_o doubtless_o be_v that_o special_a sanctify_a of_o god_n by_o way_n of_o dependence_n which_o he_o require_v at_o our_o hand_n in_o this_o place_n so_o that_o he_o may_v become_v a_o sanctuary_n unto_o we_o the_o scope_n of_o the_o place_n with_o the_o whole_a carriage_n of_o the_o context_n and_o more_o particular_o the_o addition_n of_o those_o two_o clause_n as_o it_o be_v by_o way_n of_o explication_n let_v he_o be_v your_o fear_n and_o let_v he_o be_v your_o dread_n lead_v our_o judgement_n and_o understanding_n as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o hand_n to_o this_o interpretation_n so_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o contend_v further_o about_o this_o to_o prove_v that_o by_o sanctify_a god_n in_o this_o place_n be_v mean_v a_o stable_n and_o comfortable_a depend_v on_o he_o see_v the_o word_n use_v in_o a_o sense_n import_v trust_n or_o dependence_n elsewhere_o 1_o pet._n 3._o 15._o num._n 20._o 12._o 27._o 14._o esa_n 29._o 23._o this_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n to_o be_v open_v in_o the_o point_n 9_o the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v open_v for_o the_o further_o clear_v of_o the_o doctrine_n be_v how_o the_o promise_n be_v here_o to_o be_v take_v that_o god_n will_v be_v a_o sanctuary_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v sanctify_v he_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v whether_o it_o be_v to_o be_v restrain_v only_o to_o a_o soul_n protection_n and_o the_o meaning_n of_o it_o only_o this_o that_o god_n will_v have_v a_o care_n of_o such_o in_o time_n of_o danger_n difficulty_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o the_o thing_n of_o their_o everlasting_a peace_n shall_v suffer_v no_o loss_n or_o damage_n by_o all_o the_o storm_n and_o tempest_n of_o outward_a trouble_n that_o may_v fall_v on_o they_o that_o their_o soul_n shall_v not_o miscarry_v that_o no_o wind_n shall_v shake_v that_o corn_n of_o they_o or_o whether_o it_o be_v to_o be_v extend_v further_o to_o a_o outward_a protection_n also_o as_o that_o god_n will_v either_o preserve_v or_o keep_v they_o so_o that_o the_o trouble_n shall_v not_o take_v hold_n of_o they_o or_o hide_v they_o under_o his_o wing_n where_o the_o danger_n that_o find_v out_o other_o by_o hundred_o and_o thousand_o shall_v not_o find_v out_o he_o or_o at_o least_o that_o he_o will_v carry_v they_o through_o and_o bring_v they_o again_o with_o comfort_n and_o peace_n in_o this_o present_a world_n though_o they_o may_v happy_o drink_v deep_a of_o the_o cup_n with_o other_o 10._o for_o answer_v to_o this_o it_o be_v out_o of_o all_o controversy_n that_o that_o great_a protection_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v here_o include_v however_o whether_o it_o be_v principal_o intend_v or_o aim_v at_o or_o no._n those_o that_o sanctify_v he_o in_o the_o time_n of_o great_a water-flood_n as_o david_n speak_v of_o great_a danger_n and_o public_a calamity_n or_o judgement_n whether_o they_o have_v their_o life_n or_o no_o give_v they_o for_o a_o prey_n they_o shall_v have_v their_o soul_n give_v they_o for_o a_o prey_n neither_o tribulation_n nor_o anguish_n nor_o persecution_n nor_o famine_n nor_o nakedness_n nor_o peril_n nor_o sword_n nor_o life_n nor_o death_n shall_v be_v able_a to_o separate_v they_o from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n rom._n 8._o therefore_o of_o this_o there_o be_v no_o question_n 11_o but_o concern_v the_o other_o kind_n of_o protection_n or_o temporal_a deliverance_n etc._n etc._n it_o may_v be_v somewhat_o more_o questionable_a whether_o that_o be_v here_o include_v and_o intend_v or_o no._n yet_o by_o that_o immediate_o follow_v as_o likewise_o by_o the_o general_a stream_n and_o currant_n of_o the_o scripture_n both_o for_o promise_n and_o example_n in_o this_o kind_n some_o whereof_o we_o shall_v produce_v for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o doctrine_n it_o seem_v that_o even_o this_o kind_n of_o protection_n also_o be_v here_o include_v if_o not_o principal_o and_o direct_o intend_v for_o so_o it_o follow_v and_o he_o shall_v be_v a_o sanctuary_n that_o be_v to_o say_v unto_o you_o as_o we_o say_v before_o but_o as_o a_o stumble_a stone_n and_o as_o a_o rock_n of_o offence_n to_o both_o the_o house_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v apparent_o speak_v of_o of_o those_o outward_a and_o temporal_a judgement_n and_o calamity_n which_o the_o wicked_a jew_n both_o those_o of_o the_o ten_o tribe_n and_o those_o of_o the_o two_o will_v bring_v upon_o themselves_o by_o not_o sanctify_v god_n by_o not_o trust_v and_o depend_v upon_o he_o and_o not_o of_o eternal_a judgement_n therefore_o that_o which_o god_n promise_v to_o those_o that_o sanctify_v he_o by_o way_n of_o opposition_n to_o what_o he_o threaten_v against_o those_o that_o will_v not_o sanctify_v he_o must_v be_v understand_v principal_o at_o least_o of_o outward_a mercy_n and_o protection_n and_o beside_o ezek._n 11._o 16._o where_o the_o very_a phrase_n be_v use_v of_o god_n be_v a_o sanctuary_n it_o be_v in_o special_a manner_n mean_v of_o outward_a protection_n and_o that_o as_o apparent_o as_o satisfaction_n itself_o can_v desire_v 12_o there_o be_v yet_o a_o three_o way_n to_o interpret_v this_o promise_n or_o phrase_n of_o god_n be_v a_o sanctuary_n unto_o his_o people_n which_o will_v stand_v well_o with_o both_o the_o former_a and_o yet_o be_v differ_v from_o either_o god_n therefore_o may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o sanctuary_n unto_o his_o people_n viz._n to_o those_o that_o shall_v so_o sanctify_v he_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o soule-protection_n from_o hell_n nor_o of_o bodily_a and_o outward_a protection_n from_o external_a trouble_n and_o misery_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o heart-protection_n as_o we_o may_v call_v it_o from_o the_o sad_a pierce_a and_o torment_v fear_n and_o apprehension_n both_o of_o the_o one_o and_o of_o the_o other_o for_o there_o be_v not_o only_a pain_n and_o torment_n in_o hell_n but_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o hell_n also_o so_o there_o be_v not_o anguish_n and_o perplexity_n of_o soul_n only_o in_o suffer_v and_o endure_v outward_a misery_n and_o affliction_n but_o in_o the_o fear_n and_o expectation_n of_o they_o and_o their_o issue_n and_o for_o outward_a misery_n and_o suffering_n the_o truth_n be_v not_o only_o that_o the_o fear_n and_o expectation_n of_o they_o be_v many_o time_n a_o great_a misery_n and_o burden_n upon_o the_o soul_n than_o
of_o hail_n and_o as_o a_o destroy_a storm_n shall_v cast_v down_o to_o the_o earth_n etc._n etc._n the_o crown_n of_o pride_n etc._n etc._n and_o the_o glorious_a beauty_n shall_v fade_v etc._n etc._n and_o what_o follow_v in_o that_o day_n shall_v the_o lord_n of_o host_n be_v for_o a_o crown_n of_o glory_n &_o for_o a_o diadem_n of_o beauty_n unto_o the_o residue_n of_o his_o people_n that_o be_v to_o such_o as_o do_v not_o with_o the_o rest_n depart_v from_o he_o through_o a_o evil_a heart_n of_o unbelief_n so_o jer._n 14._o 8._o call_v god_n first_o the_o hope_n of_o israel_n and_o then_o the_o saviour_n thereof_o in_o the_o time_n of_o trouble_n when_o god_n be_v the_o hope_n of_o israel_n that_o be_v when_o israel_n depend_v upon_o he_o than_o he_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o israel_n in_o his_o trouble_n so_o to_o the_o same_o prophet_n and_o his_o remnant_n as_o he_o call_v they_o that_o be_v the_o godly_a party_n who_o have_v stick_v to_o god_n and_o make_v his_o dependence_n upon_o he_o when_o all_o his_o people_n in_o a_o manner_n will_v have_v quarrel_v and_o persecute_v he_o out_o of_o his_o faithfulness_n he_o make_v this_o promise_n the_o lord_n say_v very_o it_o shall_v be_v well_o with_o thy_o remnant_n so_o again_o chap._n 17._o bless_a be_v the_o man_n that_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o who_o hope_n the_o lord_n be_v for_o he_o shall_v be_v as_o a_o tree_n plant_v by_o the_o water_n and_o that_o spread_v out_o her_o root_n by_o the_o river_n and_o shall_v not_o see_v when_o heat_n come_v but_o her_o leaf_n shall_v be_v green_a and_o shall_v not_o be_v careful_a in_o the_o year_n of_o drought_n neither_o shall_v cease_v from_o yield_a fruit_n by_o this_o tree_n not_o cease_v to_o yield_v fruit_n in_o a_o year_n of_o drought_n he_o express_v the_o comfort_n peace_n and_o joy_n which_o shall_v live_v in_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n of_o those_o who_o make_v the_o lord_n their_o hope_n in_o time_n of_o great_a trouble_n when_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o visible_a or_o outward_a mean_n either_o to_o raise_v or_o to_o maintain_v they_o so_o joel_n 3._o 16._o the_o lord_n shall_v roar_v out_o of_o zion_n and_o utter_v his_o voice_n from_o jerusalem_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v the_o hope_n or_o harbour_n of_o his_o people_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n so_o nahum_n 1._o 7._o the_o lord_n be_v good_a a_o strong_a hold_n in_o the_o day_n of_o trouble_n and_o he_o know_v that_o be_v regard_v or_o respect_v they_o that_o trust_v in_o he_o you_o may_v add_v to_o these_o diverse_a other_o scripture_n which_o be_v strong_o bend_v this_o way_n as_o amos_n 9_o 8_o 9_o mal._n 3._o 18._o esa_fw-la 1._o 27._o &_o esa_n 6._o 13._o in_o all_o which_o place_n we_o shall_v easy_o perceive_v that_o the_o fair_a and_o full_a stream_n run_v upon_o either_o a_o preservation_n from_o or_o a_o protection_n under_o or_o a_o deliverance_n out_o of_o public_a judgement_n and_o calamity_n to_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n by_o dependence_n on_o he_o in_o such_o time_n 3_o if_o it_o be_v object_v but_o be_v not_o those_o who_o do_v sanctify_v god_n and_o depend_v upon_o he_o many_o time_n take_v away_o and_o utter_o consume_v and_o destroy_v by_o public_a judgement_n as_o pestilence_n sword_n etc._n etc._n and_o that_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o no_o difference_n at_o all_o can_v be_v make_v between_o they_o and_o other_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v two_o thing_n first_o it_o be_v not_o ordinary_o so_o as_o may_v appear_v from_o the_o scripture_n cite_v in_o way_n of_o proof_n for_o our_o doctrine_n it_o be_v seldom_o see_v or_o hear_v of_o that_o a_o man_n be_v cut_v off_o by_o a_o public_a judgement_n in_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o dependence_n upon_o god_n godly_a man_n indeed_o if_o they_o pollute_v their_o sanctuary_n in_o heaven_n with_o inordinate_a fear_n may_v suffer_v in_o such_o a_o way_n peter_n faith_n shake_v his_o life_n we_o know_v sympathize_v and_o be_v shake_v also_o with_o it_o but_o this_o be_v that_o whereof_o i_o conceive_v few_o instance_n if_o any_o can_v be_v give_v that_o a_o public_a judgement_n shall_v be_v send_v to_o slay_v work_v together_o for_o good_a to_o those_o that_o love_v he_o be_v shield_n and_o buckler_n to_o the_o inner_a man_n so_o that_o as_o paul_n speak_v phil._n 1_o that_o to_o live_v and_o to_o die_v be_v to_o he_o alike_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v so_o narrow_a in_o his_o eye_n that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o straight_o he_o know_v not_o which_o to_o choose_v but_o yet_o of_o the_o two_o sert_v circumstance_n aside_o he_o will_v rather_o die_v than_o live_v he_o will_v be_v dissolve_v and_o be_v with_o christ_n that_o be_v best_a for_o he_o so_o when_o the_o heart_n or_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n be_v erect_v and_o lift_v up_o on_o high_a in_o a_o rich_a dependence_n upon_o god_n the_o one_o way_n or_o the_o other_o go_v or_o stay_v life_n or_o death_n there_o be_v little_a to_o choose_v between_o they_o fear_n have_v pain_n say_v john_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o scarce_o any_o thing_n else_o have_v pain_n except_o there_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o fear_n or_o other_o join_v with_o it_o take_v any_o sore_n or_o torment_a disease_n or_o sickness_n as_o stone_n or_o gout_n or_o the_o like_a if_o there_o be_v not_o some_o apprehension_n and_o fear_v of_o the_o continuance_n or_o return_v of_o they_o the_o very_a instant_a pain_n will_v be_v easy_o digest_v and_o no_o great_a matter_n make_v of_o it_o so_o when_o god_n have_v guard_v and_o fence_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n with_o the_o presence_n of_o his_o grace_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o wall_n of_o fire_n round_o about_o so_o that_o no_o fear_n or_o apprehension_n of_o evil_n can_v break_v in_o upon_o it_o to_o smite_v and_o wound_v it_o the_o evil_n itself_o when_o it_o come_v be_v of_o no_o great_a concernment_n it_o can_v much_o afflict_v or_o annoy_v the_o soul_n so_o that_o whether_o preservation_n from_o danger_n or_o no_o preservation_n whether_o deliverance_n out_o of_o danger_n or_o no_o deliverance_n i_o mean_v till_o death_n that_o come_v much_o to_o the_o same_o to_o those_o to_o who_o god_n will_v be_v a_o sanctuary_n that_o be_v to_o those_o that_o sanctify_v he_o if_o god_n be_v a_o sanctuary_n either_o from_o the_o evil_a or_o from_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o evil_a it_o make_v no_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o estate_n and_o condition_n of_o a_o christian_n of_o the_o two_o he_o have_v the_o better_a accommodation_n from_o his_o sanctuary_n i_o conceive_v who_o protection_n serve_v against_o fear_n the_o reason_n of_o the_o point_n be_v four_o chap._n fourteen_o contain_v the_o ground_n or_o reason_n of_o the_o point_n in_o number_n four_o 1._o first_o god_n will_v assure_o be_v a_o sanctuary_n to_o they_o who_o sanctify_v he_o by_o dependence_n because_o he_o have_v make_v himfelfe_n a_o debtor_n by_o promise_n unto_o his_o sin_n as_o of_o two_o contrary_a term_n or_o two_o point_n in_o the_o heaven_n diametral_o opposite_a or_o direct_o cross_v one_o to_o the_o other_o as_o the_o east_n be_v to_o the_o west_n and_o the_o north_n to_o the_o south_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o whilst_o a_o man_n face_n be_v towards_o sin_n that_o be_v whilst_o he_o remain_v impenitent_a and_o unconvert_v his_o back_n be_v towards_o god_n that_o be_v he_o see_v not_o that_o in_o he_o why_o he_o shall_v trust_v he_o or_o depend_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o man_n while_o his_o face_n be_v towards_o the_o west_n his_o back_n must_v needs_o be_v towards_o the_o east_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o any_o man_n remain_v in_o a_o estate_n of_o impenitency_n be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o happy_o we_o conceive_v the_o pleasure_n or_o profit_n or_o contentment_n of_o sin_n in_o any_o kind_n as_o the_o ignorance_n of_o god_n of_o that_o infinite_a goodness_n sweetness_n mercy_n bounty_n truth_n power_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v in_o occasion_v move_v or_o persuade_v to_o believe_v on_o god_n by_o turn_v away_o from_o sin_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a be_v persuade_v and_o draw_v aside_o from_o sin_n by_o believe_v on_o god_n as_o though_o a_o man_n go_v from_o london_n to_o york_n be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o motion_n or_o journey_n yet_o be_v his_o go_v to_o york_n and_o his_o business_n there_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o go_v
