new_a man_n in_o the_o womb_n and_o therefore_o he_o that_o before_o diminish_v his_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o appear_v little_a or_o nothing_o in_o his_o eye_n when_o he_o once_o see_v the_o man_n smite_v down_o into_o the_o place_n of_o dragon_n and_o cover_v with_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n 44.19_o psal_n 44.19_o than_o he_o put_v into_o his_o mind_n his_o innumerable_a sin_n and_o that_o follow_v not_o that_o faith_n be_v before_o sorrow_n for_o the_o habit_n of_o these_o grace_n be_v both_o together_o and_o at_o once_o in_o the_o soul_n or_o howsoever_o it_o follow_v not_o that_o the_o soul_n be_v enable_v by_o a_o act_n of_o faith_n to_o apply_v christ_n to_o itself_o as_o soon_o as_o christ_n be_v in_o the_o soul_n or_o as_o soon_o as_o the_o habit_n of_o faith_n be_v infuse_v into_o the_o soul_n the_o question_n be_v whether_o the_o soul_n in_o respect_n of_o we_o who_o can_v only_o judge_v of_o the_o habit_n by_o the_o act_n can_v be_v say_v to_o have_v sorrow_n or_o repentance_n before_o faith_n the_o question_n be_v not_o which_o the_o soul_n have_v first_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n gift_n but_o which_o it_o act_v first_o for_o our_o apprehension_n sure_o to_o we_o it_o first_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n and_o then_o it_o act_n or_o exercise_v faith_n by_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o rely_v upon_o christ_n for_o salvation_n etc._n etc._n he_o grieve_v not_o only_o because_o he_o fear_v he_o must_v be_v damn_v so_o cain_n and_o judas_n might_n but_o because_o he_o know_v he_o have_v deserve_v to_o be_v damn_v this_o be_v the_o more_o especial_a object_n of_o his_o sorrow_n in_o that_o he_o be_v so_o wicked_a so_o sinful_a so_o rebellious_a so_o contrary_a to_o god_n this_o sin_n i_o say_v be_v it_o wherein_o he_o be_v conceive_v and_o bear_v wherein_o he_o have_v live_v and_o continue_v that_o make_v he_o sob_v and_o sigh_v and_o sorrow_n and_o mourn_v and_o yet_o this_o sorrow_n be_v sometime_o take_v large_o for_o the_o whole_a work_n of_o conversion_n sometime_o strict_o for_o conviction_n contrition_n and_o humiliation_n in_o like_a manner_n repentance_n be_v take_v sometime_o large_o and_o sometime_o strict_o by_o this_o distinction_n it_o may_v easy_o appear_v how_o sorrow_n go_v before_o repentance_n and_o how_o repentance_n go_v before_o faith_n indeed_o for_o the_o latter_a be_v the_o great_a controversy_n but_o some_o reconcile_v it_o thus_o repentance_n have_v two_o part_n the_o aversion_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o sin_n and_o the_o conversion_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o god_n the_o latter_a part_n of_o it_o be_v only_o a_o effect_n of_o faith_n the_o former_a part_n of_o it_o viz._n the_o turn_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o sin_n be_v also_o a_o effect_n but_o not_o only_o a_o effect_n for_o it_o be_v begin_v before_o faith_n though_o it_o be_v not_o end_v till_o our_o life_n end_n some_o object_n that_o god_n work_v repentance_n and_o faith_n together_o but_o we_o dispute_v not_o how_o god_n work_v they_o but_o how_o the_o soul_n act_v they_o not_o which_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n first_o but_o which_o appear_v out_o of_o the_o soul_n first_o neither_o be_v it_o any_o new_a thing_n in_o philosophy_n to_o say_v those_o cause_n which_o produce_v a_o effect_n though_o they_o be_v in_o time_n together_o yet_o be_v mutual_o before_o one_o another_o in_o order_n of_o
will_n to_o preserve_v thou_o from_o sin_n to_o prepare_v thou_o for_o growth_n unto_o full_a holiness_n and_o righteousness_n this_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o jeremiahs_n prayer_n convert_v i_o o_o
