which_o keep_v such_o a_o do_v for_o christ_n but_o let_v all_o such_o know_v that_o christ_n be_v not_o as_o yet_o for_o they_o god_n never_o prepare_v appoint_a or_o send_v he_o for_o such_o but_o for_o the_o hungry_a as_o the_o shewbread_n be_v not_o for_o david_n himself_o but_o in_o case_n of_o great_a hunger_n math._n 12._o 3._o 4._o if_o god_n have_v immediate_o &_o sudden_o convey_v christ_n to_o sinful_a soul_n than_o may_v he_o have_v be_v enjoy_v by_o you_o without_o be_v first_o hungry_a but_o since_o he_o give_v he_o as_o bread_n you_o must_v so_o take_v he_o that_o be_v first_o be_v hungry_a this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o many_o eat_v this_o bread_n christ_n and_o be_v never_o the_o better_a because_o they_o eat_v he_o without_o hunger_n first_o and_o so_o digest_v he_o not_o but_o fill_v their_o soul_n with_o cruddy_a humour_n security_n presumption_n etc._n etc._n which_o kill_v the_o soul_n let_v a_o hungry_a soul_n eat_v of_o this_o bread_n it_o exceed_o strengthen_v he_o to_o all_o obedience_n fill_v the_o soul_n with_o good_a nourishment_n &_o spirit_n of_o love_n peace_n hope_n joy_n but_o if_o any_o that_o be_v not_o hungry_a do_v eat_v of_o christ_n that_o be_v apply_v he_o he_o be_v to_o they_o but_o as_o the_o food_n to_o the_o angel_n who_o be_v without_o stomach_n gen_n 18_o 8._o they_o see_v 〈…〉_o eat_v but_o eat_v not_o and_o so_o be_v never_o the_o better_a for_o it_o though_o the_o food_n be_v good_a hence_o the_o soul_n of_o people_n be_v so_o starveling_n like_a though_o they_o oft_o enjoy_v large_a meal_n of_o this_o bread_n viz_o the_o word_n oft_o preach_v sacrament_n oft_o administer_v because_o want_v stomach_n they_o only_o seem_v to_o eat_v but_o eat_v not_o if_o therefore_o you_o christ_n how_o to_o get_v a_o hunger_n after_o christ_n will_v be_v the_o better_a for_o christ_n you_o must_v get_v a_o hunger_n which_o that_o you_o may_v the_o better_o do_v 1._o disgorge_v your_o soul_n of_o that_o surfeit_n of_o sin_n &_o earthly_a vanity_n which_o you_o have_v take_v in_o by_o consider_v the_o vanity_n &_o hurtfullnes_n of_o they_o 2._o get_v a_o strong_a appetite_n to_o christ_n which_o be_v do_v partly_o by_o drink_v down_o the_o vinegar_n of_o the_o law_n eat_v the_o sour_a herb_n by_o the_o law_n labour_v to_o see_v your_o sinnfullnes_n &_o misery_n thereby_o and_o partly_o by_o look_v into_o the_o gospel_n and_o christ_n beauty_n and_o desirablenes_n as_o eve_n by_o consider_v the_o fruit_n be_v draw_v to_o take_v &_o eat_v it_o but_o i_o will_v not_o press_v this_o because_o i_o have_v late_o do_v it_o and_o show_v you_o how_o far_o you_o must_v be_v humble_v &_o the_o sign_n &_o mean_n of_o it_o all_o that_o i_o now_o say_v be_v this_o that_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o bitter_a water_n in_o another_o sense_n so_o be_v it_o with_o christ_n if_o they_o that_o hunger_n take_v &_o eat_v he_o they_o be_v save_v by_o he_o if_o they_o that_o hunger_n not_o meddle_v with_o he_o it_o be_v their_o bane_n &_o ruin_n therefore_o think_v not_o those_o preacher_n your_o enemy_n who_o labour_n to_o humble_v you_o by_o press_v on_o you_o the_o law_n and_o your_o miserable_a estate_n by_o nature_n for_o it_o be_v but_o to_o make_v you_o hungry_a and_o so_o fit_a for_o christ_n the_o bread_n of_o life_n we_o be_v your_o pastor_n &_o nurse_n and_o must_v seek_v to_o get_v you_o stomach_n that_o you_o may_v eat_v and_o not_o tread_v under_o foot_n this_o spiritual_a food_n therefore_o thus_o and_o for_o this_o end_n to_o seek_v to_o humble_v you_o be_v a_o part_n of_o our_o duty_n &_o love_n to_o you_o shall_v preacher_n only_o preach_v christ_n to_o you_o it_o will_v but_o delude_v you_o for_o till_o you_o be_v hungry_a god_n will_v not_o give_v he_o nor_o will_v you_o accept_v he_o because_o he_o be_v bread_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o thing_n in_o the_o text_n the_o description_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o sufficient_a remedy_n of_o man_n misery_n the_o trust_v his_o word_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o scripture_n make_v every_o vnbeleever_n to_o make_v god_n a_o liar_n consider_v that_o 10_o 1._o joh._n 5._o 10_o of_o thomas_n john_n 20._o 25._o the_o disciple_n say_v we_o have_v see_v the_o lord_n but_o he_o say_v except_o i_o shall_v see_v the_o print_n of_o the_o nail_n and_o put_v in_o my_o finger_n i_o will_v not_o believe_v then_o verse_n 29._o jesus_n say_v because_o thou_o have_v see_v i_o thou_o have_v believe_v bless_a be_v they_o that_o have_v not_o see_v i_o and_o yet_o have_v believe_v yea_o farther_z by_o this_o promise_n &_o word_n of_o truth_n it_o be_v ground_v partly_o at_o the_o least_o on_o yourself_o who_o change_n it_o be_v uncertain_a &_o changeable_a by_o all_o this_o i_o beseech_v you_o see_v your_o error_n who_o be_v so_o much_o humble_v as_o be_v requisite_a labour_n for_o humiliation_n holiness_n etc._n etc._n and_o do_v not_o first_o &_o chief_o labour_v to_o believe_v objection_n it_o may_v be_v object_v by_o some_o but_o i_o have_v endeavour_v this_o way_n as_o you_o teach_v and_o have_v believe_v and_o yet_o i_o find_v not_o christ_n &_o holiness_n follow_v after_o answer_n 1_o i_o answer_v first_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o believe_v in_o the_o least_o measure_n or_o degree_n but_o christ_n &_o salvation_n must_v be_v have_v because_o god_n have_v absolute_o promise_v sensible_a to_o they_o that_o believe_v 1._o because_o they_o do_v not_o know_v &_o consider_v the_o first_o least_z &_o weak_a work_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o believe_a soul_n but_o only_o judge_v themselves_o by_o the_o more_o full_a &_o strong_a working_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o soul_n in_o try_v the_o truth_n of_o faith_n take_v the_o weak_a evidence_n so_o they_o be_v sure_a though_o rest_n not_o there_o for_o that_o true_a grace_n will_v never_o do_v as_o if_o a_o man_n judge_v life_n only_o by_o walk_v &_o eat_v he_o may_v think_v a_o man_n that_o sleep_v be_v dead_a 2._o because_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o strong_a enough_o to_o put_v forth_o itself_o very_o sensible_o as_o the_o act_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o a_o swoon_n inasmuch_o as_o there_o be_v not_o a_o frequent_a accustom_a act_v and_o exercise_v faith_n till_o by_o practice_v the_o heart_n be_v settle_v in_o it_o 3._o because_o there_o be_v not_o a_o reflect_v act_n a_o consider_v what_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o that_o thou_o have_v so_o do_v and_o then_o a_o draw_v the_o comfortable_a conclusion_n to_o thyself_o that_o flow_v thence_o and_o from_o faith_n a_o reason_v to_o quicken_v thou_o up_o for_o faith_n produce_v its_o effect_n by_o reason_v as_o thus_o if_o christ_n have_v suffer_v in_o the_o flesh_n then_o must_v i_o make_v the_o flesh_n suffer_v in_o i_o if_o christ_n rise_v again_o then_o must_v i_o rise_v to_o newness_n of_o life_n if_o christ_n love_v i_o so_o as_o to_o give_v himself_o for_o i_o then_o shall_v not_o i_o love_v he_o so_o as_o to_o give_v my_o lust_n for_o he_o etc._n etc._n let_v these_o thing_n be_v observe_v and_o there_o be_v none_o that_o do_v in_o the_o least_o measure_n true_o believe_v but_o they_o shall_v find_v christ_n &_o over_o this_o way_n but_o labour_v to_o find_v it_o out_o if_o there_o be_v many_o path_n in_o a_o field_n and_o but_o one_o that_o lead_v to_o the_o house_n a_o man_n be_v go_v to_o and_o he_o have_v go_v to_o the_o end_n of_o one_o path_n and_o find_v not_o the_o house_n it_o be_v a_o good_a reason_n why_o he_o shall_v think_v that_o be_v not_o the_o right_a path_n and_o so_o seek_v it_o out_o but_o no_o reason_n why_o he_o shall_v leave_v that_o field_n and_o betake_v himself_o to_o another_o for_o in_o that_o field_n only_o be_v the_o path_n so_o it_o be_v no_o reason_n that_o thou_o shall_v cease_v strive_v to_o believe_v and_o take_v to_o some_o other_o course_n but_o labour_v to_o find_v out_o what_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o then_o care_v to_o do_v that_o and_o as_o this_o doctrine_n show_v their_o error_n who_o labour_n to_o repent_v to_o be_v holy_a etc._n etc._n and_o not_o first_o to_o believe_v so_o it_o also_o show_v their_o error_n who_o find_v a_o decay_n in_o their_o soul_n of_o grace_n and_o a_o increase_n of_o sin_n cease_v their_o faith_n and_o lay_v it_o aside_o and_o take_v to_o some_o other_o course_n whereas_o the_o only_a way_n &_o mean_n for_o they_o to_o recover_v themselves_o be_v to_o recover_v strengthen_v &_o increase_v their_o faith_n for_o faith_n be_v the_o only_a mean_n to_o christ_n &_o salvation_n 2._o use_v use_v 2_o for_o exhortation_n to_o exhort_v you_o all_o to_o labour_v above_o all_o thing_n to_o believe_v that_o be_v to_o entertain_v christ_n and_o resign_v up_o yourselves_o to_o christ_n in_o all_o his_o office_n to_o be_v save_v through_o they_o mind_v this_o work_n most_o of_o all_o for_o it_o be_v the_o all_o in_o all_o to_o your_o salvation_n thus_o do_v paul_n phill._n 3._o 8._o 9_o yea_o out_o of_o the_o offer_n but_o on_o the_o same_o term_n any_o one_o whatever_o may_v come_v &_o enjoy_v christ_n reason_n reason_n first_o because_o this_o much_o magnify_v &_o set_v out_o god_n grace_n &_o free-mercy_n whilst_o that_o christ_n &_o salvation_n may_v not_o only_o be_v have_v for_o take_v but_o also_o may_v be_v have_v by_o any_o one_o whatever_o for_o take_v so_o free_o to_o offer_v christ_n and_o salvation_n to_o a_o few_o be_v great_a mercy_n but_o to_o offer_v it_o so_o free_o to_o every_o one_o that_o be_v wonderful_a mercy_n as_o it_o be_v great_a mercy_n for_o a_o mercy_n even_o as_o it_o be_v wonderful_a riches_n in_o solomon_n in_o the_o 2._o cron._n 1._o 15_o to_o make_v silver_n at_o jerusalem_n as_o stone_n that_o be_v that_o any_o one_o whatever_o may_v have_v for_o take_v up_o if_o he_o desire_v they_o for_o so_o be_v stone_n even_o thus_o be_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n mercy_n set_v forth_o inasmuch_o as_o christ_n &_o salvation_n thing_n of_o more_o worth_n than_o gold_n &_o silver_n be_v to_o be_v have_v by_o any_o whoever_o if_o they_o accept_v they_o that_o be_v believe_v in_o christ_n second_o because_o this_o incourage_v every_o one_o to_o obey_v the_o gospel_n &_o believe_v in_o christ_n inasmuch_o as_o christ_n be_v not_o limit_v nor_o be_v any_o sequester_a &_o shut_v out_o from_o have_v christ_n by_o believe_v therefore_o there_o be_v good_a encouragement_n for_o any_o one_o so_o for_o every_o one_o to_o endeavour_n to_o believe_v and_o this_o be_v a_o wise_a administration_n of_o god_n for_o by_o this_o mean_n they_o who_o live_v under_o the_o gospel_n and_o yet_o believe_v not_o be_v leave_v whole_o without_o excuse_n even_o as_o that_o man_n math._n 22._o 12._o speechless_a for_o it_o will_v be_v clear_a even_o their_o own_o self_n be_v judge_n that_o they_o miss_v mercy_n because_o they_o care_v not_o for_o it_o but_o love_v other_o thing_n better_o for_o when_o it_o be_v free_a to_o be_v have_v by_o any_o one_o by_o receive_v &_o believe_v they_o will_v not_o do_v that_o even_o as_o the_o traitor_n who_o receive_v not_o the_o free_a and_o general_a pardon_n have_v no_o plea_n nor_o excuse_n leave_v he_o when_o he_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o sentence_n and_o this_o seem_v to_o be_v employ_v in_o john_n 3._o 19_o the_o condemnation_n to_o they_o that_o have_v hear_v the_o gospel_n will_v be_v this_o that_o light_n come_v into_o the_o world_n which_o must_v be_v supply_v and_o may_v have_v be_v have_v by_o every_o one_o of_o they_o if_o they_o will_v have_v receive_v it_o but_o they_o will_v not_o so_o much_o as_o take_v it_o when_o they_o may_v have_v have_v it_o because_o their_o deed_n be_v evil_a this_o free_a tender_a of_o christ_n it_o discover_v the_o wickedness_n of_o their_o heart_n the_o evil_a deed_n of_o they_o for_o therefore_o they_o will_v not_o love_v nor_o receive_v the_o light_n and_o leave_v they_o without_o all_o plea_n and_o make_v their_o destruction_n to_o be_v of_o themselves_o their_o own_o wilful_a ruin_n who_o do_v perish_v under_o the_o gospel_n and_o as_o there_o be_v this_o effect_n so_o also_o by_o this_o mean_n the_o person_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v 1._o thes_n 5._o 9_o be_v appoint_v by_o god_n to_o obtain_v salvation_n by_o christ_n they_o be_v bring_v on_o to_o believe_v and_o so_o to_o be_v save_v by_o christ_n for_o god_n do_v not_o first_o show_v people_n that_o he_o have_v elect_v they_o and_o then_o &_o thereby_o persuade_v &_o bring_v they_o to_o believe_v but_o election_n be_v conceal_v as_o a_o secret_a thing_n and_o by_o god_n offer_v christ_n free_o to_o every_o one_o to_o be_v have_v by_o believe_v his_o free_a offer_n incourage_v they_o to_o labour_v to_o believe_v and_o they_o find_v themselves_o not_o shut_v out_o of_o mercy_n they_o labour_v to_o believe_v and_o god_n help_v &_o give_v they_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n and_o so_o they_o believe_v come_v to_o know_v that_o they_o be_v ordain_v to_o life_n eternal_a acts._n 13._o 48._o this_o be_v a_o wise_a course_n &_o way_n to_o bring_v in_o the_o elect_n and_o discourage_v or_o hinder_v none_o use_v use_v encouragement_n encouragement_n for_o special_a encouragement_n to_o every_o one_o of_o you_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n &_o believe_v in_o he_o i_o now_o in_o god_n name_n as_o his_o messenger_n &_o ambassador_n tender_a &_o offer_v christ_n to_o every_o one_o of_o you_o on_o these_o term_n that_o you_o come_v to_o he_o receive_v he_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o assure_v you_o that_o so_o do_v you_o shall_v be_v save_v by_o he_o i_o tender_v christ_n to_o you_o all_o only_o annex_v these_o two_o caution_n lest_o you_o shall_v mistake_v or_o abuse_v this_o doctrine_n caution_n caution_n first_o that_o
