soul_n and_o eternal_a estate_n as_o other_o have_v get_v and_o yet_o thou_o can_v go_v on_o quiet_o oh_o it_o concern_v thou_o that_o be_v so_o busy_a in_o make_v all_o sure_a for_o thy_o outward_a estate_n to_o spend_v more_o thought_n and_o care_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o eternal_a estate_n than_o ever_o thou_o have_v do_v here_o be_v a_o earthly-minded_n man_n that_o can_v be_v content_v with_o slight_a assurance_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o his_o soul_n and_o satisfy_v with_o no_o kind_n of_o assurance_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n but_o will_v fain_o make_v those_o thing_n more_o and_o more_o sure_a continual_o 4._o conu._n further_o a_o earthly-minded_n man_n may_v be_v convince_v of_o his_o earthliness_n in_o this_o he_o be_v content_a with_o a_o little_a degree_n of_o sanctification_n but_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n still_o he_o will_v fain_o have_v more_o and_o more_o he_o look_v at_o those_o that_o be_v the_o most_o eminent_a that_o be_v in_o his_o rank_n and_o he_o will_v fain_o get_v up_o as_o high_a as_o they_o in_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n but_o in_o matter_n of_o religion_n he_o look_v at_o the_o low_a christian_n and_o be_v content_a to_o be_v as_o low_a as_o they_o take_v a_o earthly-minded_n man_n that_o be_v of_o such_o a_o trade_n if_o there_o be_v any_o of_o his_o profession_n or_o calling_n that_o have_v as_o little_a to_o begin_v as_o he_o and_o thrive_v better_o he_o will_v fain_o get_v up_o as_o high_a as_o he_o and_o be_v trouble_v that_o he_o be_v not_o so_o rich_a as_o he_o be_v thus_o it_o be_v in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o take_v they_o in_o matter_n of_o god_n there_o be_v such_o man_n that_o begin_v since_o you_o begin_v and_o have_v as_o little_a mean_n for_o the_o good_a of_o their_o soul_n as_o you_o have_v have_v they_o be_v thrive_v and_o get_v beyond_o you_o abundant_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o god_n and_o do_v this_o trouble_n you_o and_o be_v your_o thought_n solicitous_a about_o this_o oh_o that_o i_o can_v attain_v to_o that_o degree_n of_o grace_n as_o such_o a_o one_o have_v get_v such_o a_o one_o have_v a_o spiritual_a mind_n and_o full_a of_o the_o joy_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o full_a of_o faith_n he_o be_v able_a to_o depend_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o want_n of_o all_o outward_a comfort_n and_o certain_o enjoy_v much_o communion_n with_o god_n but_o i_o be_o far_o beneath_o such_o and_o such_o do_v these_o thought_n trouble_v you_o it_o be_v ordinary_a for_o earthly_a spirit_n if_o they_o look_v but_o at_o any_o one_o that_o make_v profession_n of_o religion_n that_o be_v low_a in_o his_o profession_n i_o do_v as_o such_o a_o one_o do_v and_o i_o have_v as_o much_o as_o they_o have_v and_o that_o satisfy_v they_o they_o look_v upon_o the_o mean_a christians_n and_o be_v satisfy_v that_o they_o be_v like_o they_o but_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n they_o look_v upon_o the_o high_a and_o be_v not_o satify_v except_o they_o come_v and_o attain_v to_o what_o they_o attain_v to_o and_o that_o be_v a_o four_o evidence_n 5._o conu._n then_o a_o five_o be_v this_o earthly-minded_n man_n be_v very_o wise_a in_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n but_o in_o matter_n that_o be_v spiritual_a there_o they_o be_v very_o weak_a and_o simple_a you_o shall_v have_v many_o man_n which_o i_o have_v wonder_v at_o sometime_o to_o see_v that_o in_o matter_n concern_v religion_n there_o they_o be_v very_o ignorant_a if_o they_o do_v but_o speak_v in_o

be_v in_o france_n turkey_n or_o spain_n your_o countryman_n be_v not_o sensible_a at_o all_o of_o it_o but_o your_o merchant_n i_o will_v warrant_v you_o will_v be_v sensible_a enough_o of_o it_o and_o when_o they_o come_v together_o upon_o the_o exchange_n all_o their_o converse_n will_v be_v of_o it_o so_o it_o be_v with_o those_o that_o have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n and_o here_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o those_o and_o those_o that_o be_v earthly_a mind_v tell_v those_o that_o be_v earthly_a of_o any_o stoppage_n in_o the_o intercourse_n between_o they_o and_o heaven_n and_o they_o know_v not_o what_o you_o mean_v they_o think_v you_o be_v fool_n and_o mad_a but_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v sensible_a of_o it_o oh_o it_o be_v a_o sore_a and_o sad_a evil_n to_o they_o i_o mean_v when_o at_o any_o time_n god_n hide_v his_o face_n from_o they_o when_o at_o any_o time_n they_o go_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n &_o can_v hear_v nothing_o from_o he_o can_v receive_v no_o letter_n from_o heaven_n as_o i_o may_v so_o say_v if_o the_o post_n do_v not_o come_v from_o such_o a_o country_n the_o merchant_n be_v trouble_v at_o it_o so_o when_o the_o saint_n send_v up_o their_o prayer_n to_o heaven_n by_o which_o they_o trade_v thither_o and_o can_v hear_v nothing_o from_o god_n again_o and_o when_o they_o can_v feel_v those_o influence_n from_o heaven_n let_v into_o their_o soul_n as_o heretofore_o sometime_o they_o have_v do_v oh_o they_o bewail_v this_o as_o a_o great_a evil_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o above_o any_o evil_n in_o the_o world_n that_o influence_n of_o heaven_n be_v stop_v and_o that_o god_n seem_v to_o be_v a_o stranger_n unto_o they_o oh_o these_o thing_n they_o complain_v of_o one_o to_o another_o and_o they_o make_v their_o moan_n when_o they_o feel_v the_o stoppage_n of_o heaven_n this_o plain_o declare_v that_o they_o be_v trader_n for_o heaven_n and_o that_o their_o conversation_n be_v there_o the_o last_o evidence_n of_o a_o saint_n have_v his_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n be_v his_o willingness_n to_o die_v to_o depart_v this_o world_n the_o go_v out_o of_o this_o world_n with_o so_o much_o comfort_n joy_n peace_n and_o triumph_v as_o many_o of_o the_o saint_n have_v do_v as_o we_o may_v give_v you_o the_o expression_n of_o many_o of_o the_o saint_n when_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o die_v rejoice_v at_o the_o hope_n of_o eternal_a life_n at_o their_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n sure_o have_v they_o not_o converse_v in_o heaven_n while_o they_o live_v here_o their_o soul_n will_v heaven_n because_o they_o have_v so_o much_o riches_n there_o when_o they_o come_v to_o die_v they_o die_v with_o joy_n and_o bless_v god_n for_o that_o day_n as_o the_o most_o bless_a day_n that_o they_o have_v see_v for_o they_o be_v go_v now_o to_o the_o country_n that_o they_o have_v be_v trade_v to_o all_o their_o day_n and_o where_o their_o riches_n lie_v these_o be_v the_o evidence_n and_o demonstration_n that_o the_o saint_n have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n chap._n ix_o four_o reason_n why_o the_o saint_n have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n but_o now_o if_o you_o demand_v the_o reason_n why_o it_o be_v that_o the_o saint_n have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v brief_o thus_o the_o first_o reason_n because_o their_o soul_n that_o be_v their_o better_a part_n they_o be_v from_o heaven_n you_o know_v that_o when_o god_n make_v man_n he_o breathe_v into_o his_o nostril_n the_o breath_n of_o life_n the_o soul_n of_o man_n any_o of_o the_o other_o creature_n that_o be_v here_o in_o this_o world_n and_o because_o the_o original_n it_o be_v so_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a therefore_o it_o be_v that_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v as_o it_o be_v its_o self_n be_v set_v at_o liberty_n it_o will_v be_v at_o its_o original_n indeed_o though_o man_n soul_n be_v of_o a_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a nature_n yea_o through_o the_o fall_n of_o man_n so_o it_o be_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v even_o almost_o turn_v to_o be_v flesh_n and_o so_o mingle_v with_o unclean_a drossy_a thing_n as_o if_o it_o have_v no_o such_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a original_n and_o therefore_o a_o natural_a man_n be_v call_v flesh_n that_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n as_o if_o he_o have_v no_o soul_n at_o all_o for_o i_o say_v the_o soul_n of_o man_n through_o his_o fall_n the_o nature_n of_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v change_v it_o be_v at_o least_o depress_v down_o to_o such_o vile_a thing_n as_o if_o it_o stock_n to_o trade_n withal_o for_o heaven_n they_o have_v grace_n in_o their_o heart_n grace_n in_o the_o heart_n be_v a_o stock_n for_o a_o trade_n if_o you_o leave_v your_o child_n no_o land_n yet_o if_o you_o leave_v they_o a_o good_a trade_n and_o a_o stock_n you_o think_v you_o leave_v they_o a_o plentiful_a portion_n now_o the_o saint_n though_o they_o have_v but_o little_a in_o the_o world_n yet_o they_o have_v skill_n in_o the_o commodity_n of_o heaven_n they_o have_v a_o good_a trade_n and_o a_o good_a stock_n too_o they_o have_v a_o stock_n of_o grace_n that_o shall_v never_o be_v lose_v how_o ever_o they_o perhaps_o may_v not_o have_v those_o in_o come_v that_o they_o do_v desire_v sometime_o yet_o they_o shall_v never_o lose_v their_o stock_n their_o portion_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v their_o care_n to_o improve_v their_o stock_n for_o heaven_n and_o indeed_o then_o they_o have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n when_o they_o improve_v and_o lay_v out_o all_o their_o stock_n that_o way_n about_o heavenly_a commodity_n and_o then_o a_o three_o thing_n in_o trade_n be_v to_o take_v advantage_n of_o the_o market_n for_o commodity_n great_a bargain_n may_v be_v have_v sometime_o that_o can_v be_v have_v at_o another_o so_o the_o trade_n of_o a_o christian_a for_o heaven_n it_o be_v in_o the_o observe_v his_o advantage_n that_o he_o have_v for_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o those_o that_o have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n they_o be_v very_o wise_a and_o understanding_n this_o way_n they_o be_v able_a to_o know_v their_o time_n and_o upright_o then_o i_o be_o god_n alsufficient_a and_o i_o enter_v into_o covenant_n with_o you_o to_o be_v a_o god_n to_o you_o and_o a_o god_n to_o your_o seed_n walk_v before_o i_o and_o be_v upright_o as_o if_o that_o be_v all_o the_o thing_n that_o god_n look_v at_o that_o you_o shall_v walk_v with_o he_o and_o be_v upright_o then_o you_n shall_v have_v the_o blessing_n of_o the_o nothing_o at_o all_o yet_o now_o come_v to_o understand_v the_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o that_o be_v yond_o many_o great_a scholar_n how_o come_v this_o to_o pass_v he_o walk_v with_o the_o god_n of_o wisdom_n and_o the_o god_n of_o wisdom_n do_v delight_n to_o let_v out_o himself_o to_o he_o and_o to_o open_v his_o heart_n to_o he_o they_o come_v to_o know_v the_o counsel_n of_o god_n because_o they_o walk_v with_o he_o those_o christian_n that_o keep_v close_o to_o god_n in_o a_o holy_a conversation_n walk_v with_o he_o certain_o they_o come_v to_o know_v more_o of_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n than_o other_o do_v other_o that_o walk_v loose_o they_o know_v little_a of_o the_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o may_v talk_v something_o of_o they_o but_o certain_o they_o have_v not_o a_o spiritual_a insight_n into_o the_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n so_o as_o those_o have_v that_o walk_n with_o god_n the_o eight_o excellency_n the_o eight_o benefit_n of_o walk_v with_o god_n it_o be_v that_o such_o find_v favour_n in_o god_n eye_n for_o grant_v their_o petition_n for_o to_o hear_v they_o in_o their_o prayer_n in_o the_o 37._o psal_n 4._o ver_fw-la delight_n thyself_o in_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o shall_v give_v thou_o the_o desire_n of_o thy_o heart_n walk_v with_o god_n and_o enjoy_v converse_n and_o communion_n with_o he_o so_o as_o to_o delight_v thyself_o with_o he_o and_o he_o will_v give_v thou_o thy_o heart_n desire_v thou_o shall_v have_v what_o thou_o will_v have_v as_o now_o if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o petition_n to_o give_v to_o any_o great_a man_n if_o he_o can_v but_o observe_v he_o in_o his_o walk_n than_o he_o think_v that_o sure_o when_o he_o may_v have_v such_o a_o opportunity_n now_o to_o present_v it_o as_o he_o hope_v to_o have_v audiance_n and_o acceptance_n of_o the_o petition_n i_o remember_v i_o have_v read_v of_o one_o that_o offer_v to_o give_v a_o great_a sum_n of_o money_n that_o he_o may_v have_v but_o liberty_n to_o whisper_v any_o thing_n in_o the_o king_n ear_n every_o day_n why_o because_o thereby_o he_o think_v that_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o great_a many_o people_n come_v to_o he_o to_o desire_v his_o help_n for_o to_o prefer_v their_o petition_n and_o if_o he_o may_v have_v but_o that_o liberty_n he_o shall_v get_v enough_o that_o way_n now_o the_o soul_n that_o have_v the_o liberty_n of_o walk_v with_o god_n what_o a_o privilege_n have_v he_o and_o what_o opportunity_n to_o present_a petition_n to_o god_n and_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o hear_v of_o they_o if_o a_o king_n will_v admit_v a_o man_n to_o walk_v with_o he_o sure_o such_o a_o man_n whatsoever_o he_o present_v its_o like_a to_o speed_v now_o my_o brethren_n upon_o this_o ground_n it_o be_v thus_o you_o shall_v see_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n in_o a_o formal_a professor_n prayer_n &_o the_o prayer_n of_o a_o godly_a man_n that_o walk_v with_o god_n the_o difference_n in_o the_o prayer_n of_o these_o two_o be_v thus_o i_o will_v set_v it_o out_o by_o this_o similitude_n you_o have_v your_o beggar_n and_o they_o pray_v for_o a_o alm_n but_o they_o stand_v at_o the_o door_n parlour_n and_o there_o he_o open_v his_o mind_n to_o you_o he_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o privilege_n more_o than_o the_o other_o both_o come_v to_o ask_v a_o favour_n from_o you_o but_o one_o stand_v at_o the_o door_n and_o the_o other_o be_v let_v into_o the_o parlour_n and_o walk_v up_o and_o down_o there_o and_o there_o open_v his_o mind_n to_o you_o just_o for_o all_o the_o world_n be_v there_o this_o difference_n between_o the_o prayer_n of_o formal_a professor_n and_o the_o prayer_n of_o those_o that_o walk_v with_o god_n those_o that_o make_v but_o a_o mere_a profession_n of_o religion_n they_o will_v pray_v as_o other_o do_v but_o they_o be_v like_o beggar_n at_o the_o door_n they_o see_v not_o god_n face_n all_o the_o while_n they_o knock_v it_o may_v be_v but_o the_o door_n be_v not_o open_v for_o they_o to_o come_v in_o but_o a_o gracious_a heart_n that_o walk_v with_o god_n do_v not_o only_o stand_v knock_v at_o the_o door_n but_o it_o be_v open_v and_o he_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n chamber_n and_o there_o say_v god_n what_o be_v thy_o request_n o_o thou_o soul_n as_o if_o a_o friend_n shall_v hear_v another_o that_o be_v his_o dear_a friend_n stand_v knock_v at_o the_o door_n he_o present_o open_v the_o door_n and_o carry_v he_o into_o the_o best_a room_n that_o he_o have_v and_o there_o say_v tell_v i_o what_o it_o be_v that_o you_o forty_o day_n upon_o the_o mount_n and_o when_o he_o come_v down_o his_o face_n do_v shine_v that_o the_o people_n be_v not_o able_a to_o behold_v it_o god_n appear_v in_o a_o visible_a manner_n to_o he_o but_o spiritual_o it_o be_v true_a now_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v converse_v with_o god_n forty_o day_n yea_o in_o the_o constant_a course_n of_o his_o life_n have_v a_o beauty_n a_o lustre_n a_o glory_n put_v upon_o it_o and_o such_o a_o lustre_n and_o glory_n that_o those_o that_o have_v enlighten_v conscience_n and_o yet_o be_v guilty_a they_o be_v scarce_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o fight_n of_o they_o as_o i_o appeal_v to_o you_o when_o you_o have_v give_v liberty_n to_o some_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o you_o have_v come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o those_o that_o have_v be_v godly_a and_o walk_v very_o close_o with_o god_n have_v it_o not_o strike_v a_o terror_n to_o you_o for_o there_o be_v a_o glory_n and_o beauty_n upon_o those_o soul_n that_o do_v walk_v close_o with_o god_n they_o do_v shine_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o crooked_a and_o perverce_a generation_n what_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o heaven_n but_o the_o reflection_n of_o god_n presence_n upon_o heaven_n that_o make_v it_o so_o glorious_a and_o in_o its_o measure_n a_o gracious_a heart_n that_o walk_v close_o with_o god_n have_v the_o glory_n of_o heaven_n upon_o it_o the_o ten_o excellency_n ten_o god_n presence_n do_v mighty_o act_v every_o grace_n do_v draw_v forth_o every_o grace_n and_o that_o i_o lay_v down_o as_o another_o distinct_a head_n in_o the_o excellency_n of_o walk_v with_o god_n i_o say_v it_o draw_v forth_o every_o grace_n the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v always_o keep_v in_o action_n as_o now_o fire_n will_v draw_v fire_n the_o lord_n be_v of_o infinite_a holiness_n when_o the_o hair_n be_v holy_a it_o being_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n walk_v with_o he_o i_o say_v all_o holiness_n must_v needs_o be_v draw_v forth_o and_o must_v be_v act_v and_o heart_n though_o sense_n and_o reason_n seem_v to_o be_v contrary_a 2_o cor._n 5._o 7._o there_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o walk_n of_o a_o godly_a man_n for_o we_o walk_v by_o faith_n and_o not_o by_o sight_n say_v the_o apostle_n beyond_o our_o sight_n either_o beyond_o our_o sight_n of_o sense_n or_o the_o sight_n of_o reason_n we_o walk_v by_o faith_n but_o now_o this_o be_v a_o great_a point_n a_o christian_a walk_v by_o faith_n and_o therefore_o i_o intend_v to_o speak_v to_o that_o by_o its_o self_n from_o this_o very_a text_n god_n will_v in_o another_o treatise_n the_o second_o you_o find_v in_o their_o clothes_n you_o shall_v have_v many_o man_n and_o woman_n when_o they_o go_v abroad_o they_o will_v be_v very_o neat_a and_o though_o they_o have_v but_o little_a mean_n yet_o they_o will_v lay_v it_o upon_o their_o back_n so_o that_o they_o may_v be_v fine_a abroad_o but_o come_v to_o they_o in_o their_o family_n and_o they_o care_v not_o what_o clothes_n they_o wear_v there_o it_o be_v just_a so_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o life_n their_o life_n have_v as_o much_o difference_n as_o their_o clothes_n when_o they_o be_v abroad_o then_o they_o put_v a_o good_a walk_v they_o have_v they_o be_v not_o alone_o all_o this_o time_n they_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o give_v their_o retire_a time_n for_o all_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o jollity_n and_o bravery_n thou_o think_v if_o thou_o be_v abroad_o in_o company_n and_o there_o art_n feast_v and_o have_v good_a cheer_n and_o music_n and_o talk_v and_o laugh_v that_o this_o be_v a_o brave_a life_n they_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o change_v their_o retire_a time_n for_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o great_a jollity_n with_o thy_o companion_n one_o that_o walk_v with_o god_n he_o love_v some_o retire_a time_n as_o till_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n come_v to_o be_v stranger_n yea_o till_o they_o be_v afraid_a almost_o to_o think_v of_o god_n here_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o many_o people_n be_v loath_a to_o come_v to_o prayer_n loath_a to_o come_v to_o duty_n of_o communion_n with_o god_n why_o because_o they_o have_v not_o keep_v their_o account_n even_o with_o god_n but_o have_v run_v in_o arerige_n with_o god_n and_o their_o heart_n be_v entangle_v in_o the_o world_n and_o in_o their_o lust_n and_o now_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n come_v to_o be_v terrible_a to_o they_o oh_o poor_a wretch_n that_o thou_o be_v what_o thou_o that_o be_v a_o christian_n and_o yet_o in_o such_o a_o case_n that_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v grievous_a to_o thou_o oh_o thy_o condition_n be_v sad_a indeed_o whereas_o thou_o shall_v be_v glad_a when_o thou_o think_v of_o god_n i_o be_v glad_a when_o they_o say_v come_v let_v we_o go_v up_o to_o the_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n but_o one_o that_o
