now_o say_v by_o way_n of_o use_n in_o the_o close_a of_o this_o subject_n shall_v be_v this_o earnest_o to_o exhort_v and_o beseech_v you_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o your_o buy_n and_o selling_n not_o say_v they_o be_v sick_a because_o their_o sin_n be_v pardon_v the_o sense_n of_o their_o pardon_n shall_v take_v away_o the_o sense_n of_o their_o pain_n under_o their_o present_a suffering_n now_o when_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o you_o it_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o your_o trouble_n be_v more_o for_o sin_n then_o for_o affliction_n but_o than_o be_v a_o man_n more_o trouble_v for_o his_o affliction_n then_o for_o his_o sin_n when_o he_o will_v grieve_v though_o he_o be_v assure_v that_o his_o sin_n be_v pardon_v and_o that_o he_o be_v a_o heir_n apparent_a unto_o glory_n all_o the_o persuasion_n he_o have_v of_o sin_n forgiveness_n do_v no_o whit_n allay_v his_o impatience_n and_o thus_o i_o have_v do_v with_o this_o second_o caution_n that_o you_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o look_v upon_o that_o as_o a_o mourning_n for_o sin_n that_o be_v only_o for_o some_o outward_a trouble_n and_o affliction_n before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o three_o caution_n give_v i_o leave_v to_o lay_v all_o close_a to_o your_o heart_n by_o a_o word_n or_o two_o of_o application_n and_o the_o use_n that_o i_o shall_v make_v of_o what_o have_v be_v say_v in_o these_o two_o query_n shall_v be_v first_o for_o reproof_n reproof_n use_v of_o reproof_n and_o then_o for_o exhortation_n 1._o for_o reproof_n to_o those_o that_o be_v so_o far_o from_o weep_v as_o if_o they_o weep_v not_o for_o affliction_n that_o they_o weep_v so_o excessive_o as_o if_o their_o whole_a body_n be_v make_v of_o a_o lump_n of_o ice_n that_o do_v all_o dissolve_v into_o tear_n when_o the_o sun_n of_o affliction_n do_v scorch_v they_o how_o many_o man_n be_v there_o that_o be_v easy_o draw_v to_o sorrow_n immoderate_o for_o worldly_a cross_n we_o use_v to_o say_v when_o a_o man_n weep_v that_o he_o water_v his_o plant_n and_o you_o know_v that_o when_o you_o water_n your_o plant_n in_o your_o garden_n too_o much_o you_o drown_v and_o kill_v they_o and_o so_o when_o you_o weep_v over_o much_o for_o affliction_n you_o drown_v your_o plant_n and_o discompose_v your_o spirit_n and_o make_v they_o unfit_a for_o any_o spiritual_a employment_n 2._o this_o reprove_v those_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o mourn_v and_o weep_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o corruption_n they_o be_v so_o spare_v of_o their_o tear_n that_o then_o they_o weep_v as_o if_o they_o weep_v not_o a_o slight_a superficial_a sigh_n or_o some_o tear_n extract_v by_o violence_n be_v the_o great_a sorrow_n that_o many_o man_n have_v for_o sin_n when_o man_n be_v like_o a_o cloud_n that_o will_v easy_o drop_v down_o tear_n for_o any_o outward_a affliction_n but_o like_o a_o rock_n that_o can_v shed_v a_o drop_n for_o sin_n for_o dishonour_v and_o displease_v of_o god_n many_o people_n be_v like_a to_o lewis_n the_o â—…th_n king_n of_o france_n that_o do_v always_o carry_v a_o crucifix_n in_o his_o hat_n and_o when_o he_o commit_v any_o gross_a and_o abominable_a sin_n will_v take_v off_o his_o hat_n and_o bow_n to_o his_o crucifix_n and_o ask_v forgiveness_n and_o then_o think_v all_o be_v well_o present_o most_o man_n be_v apt_a to_o be_v slight_a and_o superficial_a in_o their_o grief_n for_o sin_n why_o now_o how_o do_v you_o invert_v the_o apostle_n order_n and_o direction_n here_o when_o you_o weep_v for_o sin_n as_o if_o you_o weep_v not_o and_o be_v excessive_a and_o immoderate_a in_o your_o worldly_a sorrow_n 2._o counsel_n use_v of_o counsel_n by_o way_n of_o counsel_n be_v persuade_v to_o look_v upon_o your_o sin_n as_o great_a matter_n of_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n than_o all_o the_o affliction_n that_o ever_o befall_v you_o oh_o weep_v and_o weep_v again_o for_o they_o for_o your_o sin_n be_v worse_a and_o great_a evil_n then_o all_o your_o outward_a trouble_n and_o the_o better_a to_o encourage_v you_o to_o this_o duty_n consider_v first_o that_o sin_n be_v the_o cause_n or_o inlet_n of_o all_o your_o affliction_n have_v it_o not_o be_v for_o sin_n you_o have_v undergo_v no_o suffeirngsâ—_n rather_o therefore_o mourn_v for_o the_o cause_n then_o for_o the_o affliction_n themselves_o second_o affliction_n be_v not_o so_o bad_a as_o sin_n in_o regard_n god_n be_v the_o author_n of_o all_o our_o affliction_n but_o sin_n be_v such_o a_o evil_a that_o god_n disclaim_v that_o though_o there_o be_v no_o evil_a in_o the_o city_n but_o god_n do_v it_o that_o be_v he_o be_v the_o author_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o affliction_n yet_o he_o disclaim_v be_v the_o author_n of_o sin_n three_o consider_v that_o all_o outward_a affliction_n be_v consistent_a with_o grace_n but_o many_o sin_n be_v utter_o incompatible_a and_o inconsistent_a with_o grace_n let_v your_o affliction_n be_v never_o so_o great_a yet_o you_o may_v be_v a_o godly_a man_n for_o all_o that_o you_o may_v be_v as_o poor_a as_o job_n be_v or_o as_o miserable_a as_o lazarus_n and_o endure_v any_o affliction_n whatsoever_o and_o yet_o all_o this_o be_v consistent_a with_o grace_n but_o all_o sin_n be_v not_o consistent_a with_o grace_n as_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o sin_n of_o final_a impenitency_n or_o final_a obduracy_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n these_o be_v not_o consistent_a with_o grace_n and_o therefore_o you_o have_v more_o cause_n to_o mourn_v for_o sin_n then_o for_o affliction_n and_o 4thly_a consider_v that_o affliction_n they_o reach_v but_o to_o the_o body_n but_o sin_n that_o reach_v to_o the_o soul_n affliction_n can_v make_v but_o the_o outward_a man_n miserable_a but_o sin_n will_v destroy_v and_o undo_v the_o soul_n and_o make_v that_o miserable_a and_o therefore_o be_v persuade_v rather_o to_o weep_v for_o your_o sin_n and_o corruption_n then_o for_o your_o suffering_n and_o correction_n serm._n v._n caution_n 3_o we_o come_v now_o to_o the_o three_o caution_n and_o that_o be_v this_o conc_n sin_n concern_v mourning_n for_o sin_n be_v it_o so_o that_o we_o must_v weep_v as_o if_o we_o weep_v not_o then_o take_v this_o caution_n that_o christian_n be_v not_o only_o to_o take_v heed_n that_o they_o weep_v moderate_o for_o worldly_a affliction_n but_o they_o be_v also_o to_o take_v care_n that_o they_o be_v not_o excessive_a in_o their_o sorrow_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o corruption_n but_o before_o i_o handle_v this_o case_n of_o conscience_n give_v i_o leave_v to_o premise_v three_o conclusion_n con._n 1_o 1._o that_o a_o man_n may_v weep_v overmuch_o for_o his_o sin_n this_o you_o have_v lay_v down_o in_o 2_o cor._n 2.7_o the_o corinthian_n do_v fear_v that_o the_o excommunicate_v person_n will_v be_v swallow_v up_o with_o over_o much_o sorrow_n for_o his_o sin_n say_v the_o apostle_n you_o ought_v rather_o to_o forgive_v he_o and_o to_o comfort_v he_o lest_o
