intermission_n now_o these_o be_v the_o word_n i_o aim_v at_o where_o he_o say_v and_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o vexation_n only_o to_o hear_v the_o report_n a_o vexation_n that_o be_v a_o torment_n or_o a_o great_a part_n of_o hell_n only_o to_o understand_v the_o report_n that_o be_v to_o understand_v the_o good_a tiding_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n by_o christ_n death_n for_o poor_a sinner_n and_o you_o will_v find_v this_o to_o be_v very_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o spirit_n if_o you_o compare_v it_o with_o chap._n 53._o of_o esay_n verse_n 1._o where_o he_o speak_v of_o man_n turn_v their_o back_n upon_o the_o tender_v of_o god_n grace_n in_o the_o gospel_n he_o say_v who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n or_o the_o gospel_n declare_v by_o we_o now_o this_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a torment_n to_o the_o ungodly_a when_o they_o shall_v understand_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n be_v so_o great_a that_o he_o even_o send_v his_o son_n out_o of_o his_o bosom_n to_o die_v for_o sinner_n and_o yet_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o foolish_a as_o to_o put_v he_o off_o from_o one_o time_n to_o another_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o foolish_a as_o to_o lose_v heaven_n and_o christ_n and_o eternal_a life_n in_o glory_n for_o the_o society_n of_o a_o company_n of_o drunkard_n that_o they_o shall_v lose_v their_o soul_n for_o a_o little_a sport_n for_o this_o world_n for_o a_o strumpet_n for_o that_o which_o be_v light_a than_o vanity_n and_o nothing_o i_o say_v this_o will_v be_v a_o very_a great_a torment_n unto_o thou_o 4._o another_o part_n of_o thy_o torment_n will_v be_v this_o thou_o shall_v see_v thy_o friend_n thy_o acquaintance_n thy_o neighbour_n nay_o it_o may_v be_v thy_o father_n thy_o mother_n thy_o wife_n thy_o husband_n thy_o child_n thy_o brother_n thy_o sister_n with_o other_o in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o thyself_o thrust_v out_o and_o this_o be_v
that_o that_o christ_n tell_v the_o jew_n will_v befall_v they_o in_o luke_n 13.28_o there_o shall_v be_v weep_v etc._n etc._n when_o you_o shall_v see_v abraham_n your_o father_n and_o isaac_n and_o jacob_n together_o with_o your_o brethren_n the_o prophet_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o yourselves_o thrust_v out_o nay_o say_v he_o there_o shall_v come_v from_o the_o east_n and_o from_o the_o west_n that_o be_v those_o that_o thou_o do_v never_o see_v in_o all_o thy_o life_n before_o and_o they_o shall_v sit_v down_o with_o thy_o friend_n and_o thy_o neighbour_n thy_o wife_n very_a thought_n of_o the_o devil_n appear_v to_o thou_o make_v thy_o flesh_n to_o tremble_v and_o thy_o hair_n ready_a to_o stand_v upright_o on_o thy_o head_n but_o o_o what_o will_v thou_o do_v when_o not_o only_o the_o supposition_n of_o the_o devil_n appear_v but_o the_o real_a society_n of_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n to_o be_v with_o thou_o howl_v and_o roar_v screech_a and_o yell_v in_o such_o a_o hideous_a manner_n that_o thou_o will_v be_v even_o at_o thy_o wit_n end_n and_o be_v ready_a to_o run_v stark_o mad_a again_o for_o anguish_n and_o torment_n 6._o again_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v tormenteâ—_n to_o purpose_n the_o mighty_a god_n of_o heaven_n will_v lay_v as_o great_a wrath_n and_o vengeance_n upon_o thou_o as_o ever_o he_o can_v by_o the_o might_n of_o his_o glorious_a power_n as_o i_o say_v before_o thou_o shall_v have_v his_o wrath_n not_o by_o drop_n no_o but_o by_o whole_a shower_n shall_v it_o come_v thunder_n thunder_n upon_o thy_o body_n and_o soul_n so_o fast_o and_o so_o thick_a that_o thou_o shall_v be_v torment_v out_o of_o measure_n and_o so_o say_v the_o scripture_n 2._o thes_n 1.9_o speak_v of_o the_o wicked_a who_o shall_v be_v punish_v with_o everlasting_a destruction_n from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o from_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o power_n when_o the_o saint_n shall_v be_v admire_v his_o gooodness_n and_o glory_n again_o this_o thou_o shall_v have_v as_o i_o say_v before_o without_o any_o intermission_n thou_o shall_v not_o have_v any_o ease_n so_o long_o as_o while_o a_o man_n may_v turn_v himself_o round_o thou_o shall_v have_v it_o always_o every_o hour_n day_n and_o night_n for_o their_o worm_n never_o die_v but_o always_o gnaw_v and_o their_o fire_n be_v never_o quench_v as_o it_o be_v write_v in_o mark_n 9_o 7._o again_o in_o this_o condition_n thou_o must_v be_v for_o ever_o and_o that_o be_v as_o sad_a as_o all_o the_o rest_n for_o if_o a_o man_n be_v to_o have_v all_o his_o sin_n lay_v to_o his_o charge_n and_o communion_n with_o the_o devil_n and_o as_o much_o wrath_n as_o the_o great_a god_n of_o heaven_n can_v inflict_v upon_o they_o i_o say_v if_o it_o be_v but_o for_o a_o time_n even_o ten_o thousand_o year_n if_o then_o it_o may_v have_v a_o end_n there_o will_v be_v ground_n of_o comfort_n and_o hope_n of_o deliverance_n but_o here_o be_v thy_o misery_n this_o be_v thy_o state_n for_o ever_o here_o thou_o must_v be_v for_o ever_o when_o thou_o look_v about_o thou_o and_o see_v what_o a_o innumerable_a company_n of_o howl_a devil_n thou_o be_v among_o thou_o shall_v think_v this_o again_o this_o be_v my_o portion_n for_o ever_o when_o thou_o have_v be_v in_o hell_n so_o many_o thousand_o year_n as_o there_o be_v star_n in_o the_o firmament_n or_o drop_n in_o the_o sea_n or_o sand_n on_o the_o sea_n shore_n yet_o thou_o have_v to_o lie_v there_o for_o ever_o o_o this_o one_o word_n ever_o how_o will_v it_o torment_v thy_o soul_n o_o friend_n i_o have_v only_o give_v a_o very_a short_a touch_n of_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n o_o i_o be_o set_v i_o be_o set_v and_o be_o not_o able_a to_o utter_v what_o my_o mind_n conceive_v of_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n yet_o this_o let_v i_o say_v to_o thou_o accept_v of_o god_n mercy_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n lest_o thou_o feel_v that_o with_o thy_o conscience_n which_o i_o can_v express_v with_o my_o tongue_n and_o say_v i_o be_o sore_o torment_v in_o this_o flame_n and_o see_v abraham_n afar_o off_o and_o lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n when_o the_o damn_a be_v in_o this_o pitiful_a state_n surround_v with_o fear_n with_o terror_n with_o torment_n and_o vengeance_n one_o thing_n they_o shall_v have_v which_o be_v this_o they_o shall_v see_v the_o happy_a and_o bless_a state_n of_o god_n child_n he_o see_v abraham_n afar_o off_o and_o lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n which_o as_o i_o say_v before_o be_v the_o happy_a state_n of_o the_o saint_n when_o this_o life_n be_v end_v this_o now_o shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v a_o ease_n unto_o they_o that_o it_o shall_v most_o wonderful_o aggravate_v or_o heighten_v their_o torment_n as_o i_o say_v before_o there_o shall_v be_v weep_v or_o cause_n of_o lamentation_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v abraham_n and_o isaac_n and_o jacob_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o themselves_o thrust_v out_o 2._o observe_v those_o that_o die_v in_o their_o sin_n be_v far_o from_o go_v to_o heaven_n he_o see_v abraham_n afar_o off_o and_o lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v just_a with_o god_n to_o deal_v with_o they_o that_o die_v in_o their_o sin_n according_a to_o what_o they_o have_v do_v and_o to_o make_v they_o who_o be_v far_o from_o righteousness_n now_o to_o stand_v far_o from_o heaven_n to_o all_o eternity_n harken_v to_o this_o you_o stout_a heart_a that_o be_v far_o from_o righteousness_n and_o that_o be_v resolve_v to_o go_v on_o in_o your_o sin_n when_o you_o die_v you_o will_v be_v far_o from_o heaven_n you_o will_v see_v lazarus_n but_o it_o will_v be_v afar_o off_o again_o he_o see_v abraham_n afar_o off_o and_o lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n these_o be_v some_o of_o the_o thing_n that_o the_o damn_a do_v behold_v so_o soon_o as_o they_o come_v into_o torment_n mark_v and_o he_o see_v lazarus_n in_o abraham_n bosom_n lazarus_n who_o be_v he_o why_o even_o he_o that_o be_v so_o flight_v so_o disregade_v so_o undervalue_v by_o this_o ungodly_a one_o while_o he_o be_v in_o the_o world_n he_o see_v lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n from_o whence_o observe_v that_o those_o who_o live_v and_o the_o die_v enemy_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n let_v they_o be_v never_o so_o great_a or_o stout_a let_v they_o bear_v never_o so_o much_o sway_v while_o they_o be_v in_o the_o world_n let_v they_o brag_v and_o boast_v never_o so_o much_o while_o they_o be_v here_o they_o shall_v in_o spite_n of_o their_o tooth_n see_v the_o saint_n yea_o the_o poor_a saint_n even_o the_o lazarus_n or_o the_o ragged_a one_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n to_o be_v in_o a_o better_a condition_n than_o themselves_o o_o who_o do_v you_o think_v be_v in_o the_o best_a condition_n or_o who_o do_v you_o think_v see_v themselves_o in_o the_o best_a condition_n he_o that_o be_v in_o hell_n or_o he_o that_o be_v in_o heaven_n he_o that_o be_v in_o darkness_n or_o he_o that_o be_v in_o light_n he_o that_o be_v in_o everlasting_a joy_n or_o he_o that_o be_v in_o everlasting_a torment_n the_o one_o with_o god_n christ_n saint_n angel_n the_o other_o in_o torment_a flame_n under_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n eternal_a hatred_n with_o the_o devil_n and_o their_o angel_n together_o with_o a_o innumerable_a company_n of_o howl_v roar_a curse_a ever_o burn_a reprobate_n certain_o this_o observation_n will_v be_v easy_o prove_v to_o be_v true_a here_o in_o this_o world_n by_o he_o that_o look_v upon_o it_o with_o a_o understand_a heart_n and_o will_v clear_v itself_o to_o be_v true_a in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v by_o such_o as_o shall_v go_v either_o to_o heaven_n or_o to_o hell_n 2._o the_o second_o observation_n from_o these_o word_n and_o see_v abraham_n afar_o off_o and_o lazarus_n in_o his_o bosom_n be_v this_o they_o that_o be_v the_o persecutor_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o in_o this_o world_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n persecute_v once_o to_o be_v they_o that_o be_v so_o high_o esteem_v by_o the_o lord_n as_o to_o sit_v or_o to_o be_v in_o abraham_n bosom_n in_o everlasting_a glory_n though_o they_o the_o enemy_n to_o the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o saint_n do_v so_o light_o esteem_v they_o that_o they_o scorn_v to_o let_v
at_o and_o again_o tell_v i_o now_o if_o it_o be_v not_o better_a to_o leave_v sin_n and_o to_o close_v in_o with_o christ_n jesus_n notwithstanding_o that_o reproach_n thou_o shall_v meet_v with_o for_o so_o do_v then_o to_o live_v a_o little_a while_n in_o this_o world_n in_o pleasure_n and_o feed_v thy_o lust_n in_o neglect_v the_o welfare_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o refuse_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o jesus_n and_o in_o a_o moment_n to_o drop_v down_o to_o hell_n and_o to_o cry_v o_o consider_v i_o say_v consider_v betimes_o and_o put_v not_o off_o the_o the_o tender_v of_o the_o grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n lest_o you_o lift_v up_o your_o eye_n in_o hell_n and_o cry_v for_o anguish_n of_o spirit_n and_o he_o cry_v and_o say_v father_n abraham_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o and_o send_v lazarus_n etc._n etc._n these_o word_n do_v not_o only_o hold_v forth_o the_o lamentable_a condition_n of_o the_o damn_a and_o their_o lamentable_a howl_n and_o cry_v out_o under_o their_o anguish_n of_o spirit_n but_o also_o they_o do_v signify_v to_o we_o as_o i_o say_v before_o their_o too_o late_a repentance_n and_o also_o that_o they_o will_v very_o willing_o if_o they_o may_v be_v set_v at_o liberty_n from_o that_o everlasting_a misery_n that_o by_o their_o sin_n they_o have_v plunge_v themselves_o into_o i_o say_v these_o word_n do_v hold_v forth_o a_o desire_n that_o the_o damn_a have_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o those_o torment_n that_o they_o now_o be_v in_o o_o father_n abraham_n say_v he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o and_o send_v lazarus_n that_o he_o may_v dip_v the_o tip_n of_o his_o finger_n in_o water_n and_o cool_v my_o tongue_n for_o i_o be_o torment_v in_o this_o flame_n these_o word_n father_n abraham_n may_v have_v some_o difficulty_n in_o they_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o some_o may_v think_v they_o to_o be_v mean_v of_o abraham_n and_o those_o or_o he_o that_o cry_v out_o here_o to_o be_v the_o jew_n or_o it_o may_v be_v some_o may_v understand_v it_o to_o be_v god_n or_o jesus_n christ_n his_o son_n which_o i_o rather_o suppose_v it_o may_v be_v that_o be_v here_o cry_v out_o unto_o because_o you_o find_v the_o same_o cry_n to_o he_o as_o it_o be_v utter_v by_o the_o ungodly_a in_o other_o place_n of_o the_o scripture_n as_o in_o luke_n 13._o verse_n 25_o 26._o then_o shall_v they_o say_v lord_n lord_n we_o have_v eat_v and_o drink_v in_o thy_o presence_n and_o thou_o have_v teach_v in_o our_o street_n nay_o more_o in_o thy_o name_n have_v we_o cast_v out_o devil_n and_o in_o thy_o name_n do_v many_o wonderful_a work_n this_o be_v just_a at_o their_o rejection_n and_o again_o in_o mat._n 25.11_o they_o cry_v again_o to_o he_o even_o to_o jesus_n lord_n lord_n open_a to_o we_o and_o he_o there_o again_o give_v they_o a_o repulse_n as_o also_o in_o this_o parable_n but_o however_o or_o whosoever_o abraham_n be_v yet_o these_o truth_n may_v be_v observe_v from_o the_o word_n 1._o that_o the_o damn_a when_o in_o a_o irrecoverable_a estate_n will_v seek_v for_o or_o desire_v deliverance_n from_o the_o wrath_n that_o they_o be_v and_o shall_v be_v in_o for_o eternity_n 2._o that_o they_o will_v pray_v if_o i_o may_v so_o call_v it_o earnest_o for_o deliverance_n from_o their_o miserable_a estate_n these_o two_o thing_n be_v clear_a from_o the_o word_n for_o mark_v he_o not_o only_o say_v father_n abraham_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o but_o he_o cry_v and_o say_v father_n abraham_n have_v mercy_n on_o i_o from_o whence_o take_v a_o three_o observation_n and_o that_o be_v there_o be_v a_o time_n come_v wherein_o though_o man_n shall_v both_o cry_v and_o pray_v yet_o they_o be_v like_a to_o have_v no_o mercy_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n for_o so_o be_v this_o man_n serve_v as_o i_o shall_v further_o show_v by_o and_o by_o when_o i_o come_v to_o it_o some_o people_n be_v so_o delude_v by_o the_o devil_n as_o to_o think_v that_o god_n be_v so_o merciful_a as_o to_o own_o or_o regard_v any_o thing_n for_o prayer_n they_o think_v any_o thing_n will_v go_v for_o currant_n and_o good_a satisfaction_n while_o they_o be_v here_o in_o this_o world_n through_o ignorance_n of_o the_o true_a nature_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o the_o knowledge_n in_o what_o way_n god_n be_v satisfy_v for_o sinner_n now_o i_o say_v through_o ignorance_n they_o think_v that_o if_o they_o do_v but_o mutter_v over_o some_o form_n of_o prayer_n though_o they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o say_v nor_o what_o they_o request_v yet_o god_n be_v satisfy_v yea_o very_o well_o satisfy_v with_o their_o do_n when_o alas_o there_o be_v nothing_o less_o o_o friend_n i_o beseech_v you_o to_o look_v about_o you_o and_o seek_v in_o good_a earnest_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n so_o to_o help_v you_o now_o to_o strive_v and_o pray_v and_o to_o enable_v you_o to_o lay_v hold_n of_o christ_n that_o your_o soul_n may_v be_v save_v lest_o the_o time_n come_v that_o though_o you_o cry_v and_o pray_v and_o wish_v also_o that_o you_o have_v lay_v hold_v on_o the_o lord_n jesus_n yet_o you_o must_v and_o shall_v be_v damn_v then_o again_o you_o may_v see_v that_o though_o god_n be_v willing_a to_o save_v sinner_n at_o some_o time_n yet_o this_o time_n do_v not_o always_o last_o no_o he_o that_o can_v find_v in_o his_o heart_n to_o turn_v his_o back_n upon_o jesus_n christ_n now_o shall_v have_v the_o back_n turn_v upon_o he_o hereafter_o when_o he_o may_v cry_v and_o pray_v for_o mercy_n and_o yet_o go_v without_o it_o god_n will_v have_v a_o time_n to_o meet_v with_o they_o that_o now_o do_v seek_v after_o he_o they_o shall_v have_v a_o time_n yea_o time_n enough_o hereafter_o to_o repent_v their_o folly_n and_o to_o befool_v themselves_o for_o turn_v their_o back_n upon_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n again_o this_o shall_v admonish_v we_o to_o take_v time_n while_o it_o be_v proffer_v lest_o we_o repent_v we_o of_o our_o unbelief_n and_o rebellion_n when_o we_o be_v deprive_v of_o it_o ah_o friend_n time_n be_v precious_a a_o hour_n time_n to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n be_v precious_a i_o have_v sometime_o think_v thus_o with_o myself_o set_a the_o case_n the_o lord_n shall_v send_v two_o or_o three_o of_o his_o servant_n the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o hell_n among_o the_o damn_a with_o this_o commission_n go_v you_o to_o hell_n and_o preach_v my_o grace_n to_o those_o that_o be_v there_o let_v your_o sermon_n be_v a_o hour_n long_o and_o hold_v forth_o the_o merit_n of_o my_o son_n birth_n righteousness_n death_n resurrection_n ascension_n and_o intercession_n with_o all_o my_o love_n in_o he_o and_o proffer_v it_o to_o they_o tell_v they_o that_o now_o once_o more_o and_o but_o once_o do_v i_o proffer_n the_o mean_n of_o nay_o year_n in_o reject_v the_o son_n of_o god_n will_v now_o be_v glad_a of_o one_o tender_a of_o that_o mercy_n father_n say_v he_o have_v mercy_n on_o i_o again_o from_o these_o word_n you_o may_v observe_v that_o mercy_n will_v be_v welcome_a when_o soul_n be_v under_o judgement_n now_o his_o soul_n be_v in_o the_o fire_n now_o he_o be_v under_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n now_o he_o be_v in_o hell_n there_o to_o be_v torment_v now_o he_o be_v with_o the_o devil_n and_o damn_a spirit_n now_o he_o feel_v the_o vengeance_n of_o god_n now_o oh_o now_o have_v mercy_n on_o i_o here_o you_o may_v see_v again_o that_o mercy_n be_v prize_v by_o they_o that_o be_v in_o hell_n they_o will_v be_v glad_a if_o they_o can_v have_v it_o father_n have_v mercy_n on_o i_o for_o my_o poor_a soul_n sake_n he_o therefore_o 2._o observe_v that_o those_o saint_n that_o the_o world_n in_o their_o life-time_n can_v not_o endure_v now_o they_o be_v depart_v they_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o have_v society_n you_o live_v 20._o 30._o 40._o 50._o 60._o year_n all_o which_o time_n you_o instead_o of_o spend_v it_o to_o make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a do_v spend_v it_o in_o make_v of_o eternal_a damnation_n sure_a to_o thy_o soul_n and_o also_o lazarus_n he_o in_o his_o life_n time_n do_v make_v it_o his_o business_n to_o accept_v of_o my_o grace_n and_o salvation_n in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n when_o thou_o be_v in_o the_o alehouse_n he_o frequent_v the_o word_n preach_v when_o thou_o be_v jeer_v at_o goodness_n he_o be_v sigh_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n while_o thou_o to_o the_o covenant_n of_o promise_n that_o be_v the_o gospel_n &_o so_o have_v no_o hope_n in_o they_o eph._n 2.12_o there_o be_v not_o any_o promise_n that_o can_v be_v save_o believe_v until_o
