write_a law_n belong_v to_o the_o hebrew_n alone_o in_o comparison_n of_o who_o as_o josephus_n against_o apion_n prove_v the_o grecian_a legislator_n be_v but_o of_o yesterday_o and_o this_o honour_n be_v much_o heighten_v by_o god_n own_v the_o immediate_a relation_n of_o a_o king_n unto_o they_o while_o he_o write_v these_o law_n now_o the_o benefit_n of_o law_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o have_v a_o sure_a and_o last_a foundation_n your_o second_o duty_n of_o love_n be_v command_v deut._n 6.5_o thou_o shall_v love_v the_o lord_n thy_o god_n with_o all_o thy_o heart_n and_o with_o all_o thy_o will_v i_o be_v from_o question_v the_o goodness_n of_o they_o that_o i_o will_v as_o soon_o doubt_n whether_o it_o be_v good_a to_o live_v and_o be_v happy_a so_o dear_a be_v they_o unto_o i_o yea_o so_o much_o better_a than_o life_n itself_o theoph._n i_o be_o much_o prevail_v upon_o by_o the_o reason_n you_o have_v give_v and_o your_o last_o affectionate_a word_n add_v so_o much_o a_o further_a weight_n to_o those_o reason_n that_o they_o appear_v to_o i_o not_o to_o be_v more_o the_o issue_n of_o your_o brain_n than_o of_o your_o heart_n and_o therefore_o you_o may_v on_o good_a ground_n presume_v that_o they_o will_v be_v convince_a to_o other_o when_o they_o have_v first_o be_v so_o to_o yourself_o but_o though_o i_o acknowledge_v the_o law_n of_o our_o lord_n to_o require_v most_o reasonable_a thing_n of_o we_o and_o do_v find_v that_o they_o true_o have_v a_o high_a place_n in_o my_o esteem_n and_o love_n yet_o i_o will_v confess_v to_o you_o eubulus_n much_o deject_v i_o be_o sometime_o when_o i_o reflect_v upon_o my_o many_o failure_n resolve_v indeed_o i_o do_v for_o the_o great_a care_n and_o circumspection_n but_o yet_o my_o sin_n do_v daily_o increase_v upon_o i_o and_o what_o will_v it_o boot_v i_o to_o love_v these_o law_n when_o every_o day_n i_o transgress_v they_o to_o own_v they_o so_o admirable_o fit_v for_o the_o perfect_a of_o our_o nature_n and_o the_o refine_n of_o our_o practice_n when_o i_o see_v my_o own_o nature_n so_o imperfect_a under_o they_o and_o my_o practcie_n so_o impure_a in_o comparison_n of_o they_o eubul_n what_o you_o now_o say_v theophilus_n make_v way_n for_o and_o will_v best_o be_v answer_v by_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o four_o thing_n viz._n that_o from_o these_o law_n we_o have_v a_o fair_a way_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o all_o sin_n most_o perfect_a these_o law_n be_v as_o you_o have_v hear_v but_o by_o reason_n of_o that_o weakness_n which_o be_v within_o we_o and_o those_o many_o strong_a temptation_n which_o be_v without_o they_o be_v not_o like_a to_o be_v perfect_o obey_v all_o that_o we_o can_v do_v be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o great_a way_n off_o to_o behold_v and_o admire_v that_o perfection_n which_o we_o can_v of_o ourselves_o attain_v unto_o and_o to_o grieve_v that_o we_o daily_o and_o hourly_o some_o way_n or_o other_o have_v sin_v against_o it_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v hope_n in_o israel_n concern_v this_o thing_n our_o bless_a lord_n know_v our_o frame_n and_o make_v and_o see_v that_o our_o strength_n and_o ability_n be_v but_o small_a have_v add_v two_o other_o law_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n in_o which_o we_o may_v find_v some_o cheer_v in_o respect_n of_o those_o many_o breach_n of_o the_o divine_a law_n which_o lie_v as_o a_o weight_n upon_o our_o soul_n that_o of_o faith_n require_v thus_o much_o of_o we_o that_o we_o believe_v in_o christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n who_o by_o his_o precious_a blood_n for_o we_o shed_v have_v appease_v god_n wrath_n and_o obtain_v remission_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n and_o for_o we_o in_o that_o number_n and_o from_o the_o mighty_a importance_n of_o this_o law_n and_o the_o infinite_a benefit_n it_o afford_v unto_o we_o the_o whole_a gospel_n and_o all_o the_o law_n thereof_o be_v in_o a_o comprehensive_a word_n call_v the_o law_n of_o faith._n and_o in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v much_o different_a from_o the_o old_a law._n perfect_a obedience_n be_v require_v by_o that_o and_o because_o perfection_n of_o obedience_n be_v necessary_o ground_v upon_o a_o perfection_n of_o nature_n the_o law_n seem_v therefore_o to_o have_v be_v the_o rule_n not_o of_o our_o work_n only_o but_o of_o our_o nature_n also_o which_o at_o the_o creation_n be_v commit_v pure_a into_o our_o hand_n but_o this_o law_n of_o faith_n by_o reason_n of_o human_a nature_n have_v be_v perfect_a in_o christ_n and_o have_v do_v also_o without_o the_o least_o failure_n whatsoever_o be_v incumbent_a on_o the_o representative_a of_o mankind_n to_o do_v and_o as_o unite_z with_o the_o divine_a nature_n have_v suffer_v likewise_o what_o punishment_n be_v due_a to_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n this_o law_n i_o say_v in_o our_o obedience_n or_o expressive_a of_o the_o constitution_n of_o a_o christian_a in_o which_o spirit_n be_v add_v to_o soul_n and_o body_n eubul_n i_o hope_v theophilus_n you_o do_v not_o think_v that_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v such_o thing_n as_o put_v by_o our_o endeavour_n and_o nourish_v our_o sloth_n they_o be_v assistance_n and_o so_o they_o do_v suppose_v that_o we_o ourselves_o shall_v do_v something_o for_o be_v all_o to_o be_v perform_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n without_o the_o intervention_n of_o our_o action_n we_o must_v call_v they_o by_o some_o other_o name_n for_o they_o can_v not_o proper_o be_v term_v assistance_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o what_o our_o lord_n do_v accomplish_v for_o we_o by_o his_o grace_n through_o have_v do_v it_o possible_o be_v none_o of_o the_o least_o aid_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o we_o can_v discern_v our_o own_o weakness_n and_o desire_v to_o please_v god_n even_o beyond_o our_o but_o yet_o theophilus_n these_o spiritual_a aid_n be_v not_o always_o indiscernible_a neither_o they_o oftentimes_o be_v see_v by_o their_o effect_n though_o in_o their_o act_n they_o be_v unperceived_a and_o when_o a_o man_n life_n be_v change_v and_o he_o that_o heretofore_o be_v dissolute_a and_o wicked_a be_v now_o become_v sober_a and_o religious_a or_o when_o in_o a_o constant_a those_o assistance_n have_v not_o be_v discern_v may_v no_o less_o know_v that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n have_v be_v present_a with_o he_o than_o we_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o wind_n when_o we_o hear_v the_o sound_n thereof_o though_o we_o see_v not_o whence_o it_o come_v nor_o whither_o it_o go_v and_o yet_o further_o theophilus_n after_o faithful_a obedience_n to_o the_o more_o silent_a and_o gentle_a motion_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n it_o be_v not_o altogether_o unusual_a to_o have_v inward_a and_o sacred_a joy_n dart_v into_o the_o soul_n which_o as_o they_o be_v reward_n for_o the_o criminal_n encourage_v to_o continue_v in_o their_o wickedness_n and_o other_o also_o draw_v by_o their_o example_n into_o the_o same_o excess_n of_o iniquity_n and_o may_v not_o god_n government_n of_o the_o world_n hereby_o seem_v remiss_a eubul_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n theophilus_n between_o god_n and_o those_o who_o be_v governor_n upon_o earth_n the_o child_n or_o other_o relation_n in_o who_o themselves_o be_v in_o a_o manner_n still_o here_o continue_v which_o to_o one_o who_o right_o consider_v it_o show_v forth_o god_n righteous_a judgement_n upon_o they_o but_o because_o it_o be_v not_o always_o safe_a to_o pronounce_v that_o the_o untimely_a death_n or_o unexpected_a misery_n of_o some_o particular_a person_n be_v a_o immediate_a stroke_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o for_o their_o disobedience_n for_o our_o christian_a charity_n will_v not_o permit_v this_o when_o we_o know_v no_o signal_n crime_n by_o they_o and_o the_o great_a affliction_n of_o some_o who_o be_v not_o great_a sinner_n than_o other_o man_n and_o of_o some_o who_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o esteem_v as_o good_a man_n may_v caution_n we_o in_o this_o point_n not_o to_o be_v overforward_a to_o judge_n and_o because_o also_o we_o see_v a_o great_a many_o wicked_a man_n to_o live_v and_o become_v old_a to_o be_v in_o no_o trouble_n as_o other_o man_n to_o die_v in_o peace_n and_o leave_v the_o rest_n of_o their_o substance_n for_o their_o babe_n therefore_o we_o may_v affirm_v it_o as_o a_o truth_n viz._n that_o god_n see_v it_o fit_v general_o not_o
