and_o of_o his_o mischief_n which_o he_o practise_v against_o the_o miserable_a sheep_n to_o dasle_n his_o eye_n that_o he_o may_v not_o know_v any_o more_o his_o own_o shepeheard_n &_o under_o a_o pretence_n of_o christ_n to_o lead_v a_o man_n to_o moses_n dispute_v as_o much_o of_o christ_n as_o he_o have_v accustom_v to_o do_v before_o of_o moses_n wherefore_o we_o have_v need_n of_o a_o strong_a &_o firm_a faith_n that_o we_o may_v believe_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v true_a when_o a_o man_n himself_o must_v dispute_v even_o against_o himself_o for_o the_o sense_n be_v vehement_a of_o itself_o whereunto_o the_o devil_n also_o come_v marvellous_o amplify_a sin_n &_o terror_n the_o greatness_n and_o anguish_n whereof_o be_v able_a to_o consume_v even_o the_o marrow_n in_o the_o bone_n yea_o and_o the_o heart_n in_o the_o body_n it_o can_v not_o therefore_o be_v perfect_o learn_v so_o soon_o as_o some_o think_v in_o prosperity_n it_o be_v easy_o believe_v that_o christ_n be_v sweet_a and_o amiable_a but_o anguish_n and_o terror_n come_v upon_o &_o over_o whelm_v the_o mind_n man_n be_v blind_a and_o without_o good_a understanding_n and_o will_v judge_v only_o according_a to_o the_o sense_n and_o understanding_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n which_o he_o follow_v and_o confirm_v himself_o in_o his_o own_o error_n for_o he_o be_v take_v therein_o and_o can_v think_v no_o otherwise_o but_o that_o it_o be_v true_a and_o nevertheless_o it_o be_v not_o true_a now_o it_o be_v a_o point_n of_o this_o art_n for_o a_o man_n thus_o to_o say_v unto_o his_o heart_n heart_n how_o a_o christian_n must_v speak_v unto_o his_o own_o heart_n if_o thou_o confess_v thyself_o to_o be_v a_o lose_a sheep_n thou_o say_v right_a but_o that_o thou_o will_v therefore_o run_v from_o christ_n and_o so_o think_v of_o he_o in_o thy_o mind_n as_o though_o he_o be_v a_o man_n which_o will_v chase_v and_o terrify_v thou_o it_o be_v a_o suggestion_n and_o tentation_n of_o the_o devel_n for_o if_o thou_o do_v right_o consider_v he_o and_o confess_v he_o as_o thy_o true_a shepeheard_n then_o will_v thou_o not_o fly_v from_o his_o sight_n neither_o will_v conceive_v terror_n in_o thy_o mind_n but_o with_o all_o cheerfulness_n and_o boldness_n will_v run_v unto_o he_o for_o sure_o he_o be_v not_o therefore_o ready_a at_o hand_n that_o he_o may_v condemn_v thou_o but_o he_o come_v to_o thou_o seek_v thou_o that_o have_v lay_v thou_o on_o his_o shoulder_n he_o may_v carry_v thou_o and_o exempt_a &_o deliver_v thou_o from_o sin_n error_n the_o devil_n and_o his_o power_n yea_o and_o from_o all_o peril_n thou_o perceive_v therefore_o that_o thou_o be_v a_o sinner_n and_o have_v deserve_a indignation_n so_o much_o more_o earnest_o be_v that_o shepeheard_n to_o be_v seek_v and_o call_v for_o of_o thou_o that_o he_o may_v deliver_v thou_o from_o it_o of_o who_o consider_v not_o otherwise_o in_o thy_o mind_n than_o the_o sheep_n do_v of_o his_o own_o shepeheard_n who_o it_o can_v not_o fear_v but_o see_v and_o hear_v he_o become_v glad_a and_o cheerful_a although_o it_o have_v run_v from_o he_o so_o that_o for_o this_o deed_n it_o have_v a_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o fear_v the_o whole_a matter_n therefore_o consist_v only_o in_o this_o that_o thou_o do_v perfect_o learn_v christ_n aright_o god_n we_o must_v consider_v christ_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n &_o consider_v he_o according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o not_o according_a to_o the_o proper_a cogitation_n of_o thy_o mind_n and_o thy_o own_o sense_n for_o the_o cogitation_n of_o man_n be_v false_a and_o lie_a but_o his_o word_n be_v true_a and_o can_v not_o deceive_v wherefore_o the_o word_n alone_o be_v to_o be_v engrave_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o we_o must_v cleave_v unto_o it_o with_o a_o constant_a mind_n whereby_o we_o may_v reprove_v our_o own_o heart_n of_o lie_v for_o it_o alone_o must_v be_v true_a and_o all_o thing_n else_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o it_o false_a and_o vain_a but_o true_o this_o be_v a_o art_n whereof_o i_o be_o ignorant_a but_o much_o more_o those_o other_o light_a spirit_n who_o boast_n many_o thing_n of_o it_o as_o they_o that_o know_v all_o thing_n when_o as_o they_o have_v even_o once_o hear_v any_o thing_n thereof_o and_o nevertheless_o they_o do_v not_o a_o little_a perceive_v or_o try_v so_o much_o as_o any_o whit_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n to_o speak_v and_o preach_v of_o it_o but_o how_o hard_o a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o prove_v it_o in_o deed_n they_o only_o have_v experience_n who_o earnest_o make_v trial_n thereof_o this_o be_v a_o most_o amiable_a demonstration_n of_o our_o christ_n describe_v by_o himself_o in_o this_o gospel_n wherein_o he_o have_v most_o abundant_o pour_v forth_o the_o flame_n of_o his_o most_o fervent_a heart_n and_o affection_n towards_o we_o show_v that_o he_o have_v exceed_o great_a care_n and_o regard_n to_o recover_v his_o sheep_n which_o alone_o leave_v ninety_o and_o nine_o he_o seek_v and_o enquire_v diligent_o for_o not_o to_o terrify_v it_o and_o beat_v it_o but_o that_o he_o may_v help_v it_o and_o have_v find_v it_o may_v bring_v it_o home_o and_o with_o his_o love_a and_o sweet_a voice_n and_o speak_v unto_o it_o may_v cheer_n it_o be_v miserable_a and_o afflict_a in_o conscience_n by_o all_o which_o thou_o see_v how_o acceptable_a a_o thing_n thou_o shall_v do_v unto_o he_o if_o thou_o trust_v and_o cleave_v unto_o he_o with_o thy_o whole_a heart_n and_o promise_v to_o
unto_o we_o the_o covenant_n make_v to_o abraham_n thus_o he_o say_v to_o abraham_n by_o myself_o have_v i_o swear_v say_v the_o lord_n that_o in_o blessing_n i_o will_v bless_v thou_o and_o in_o come_v unto_o we_o as_o it_o be_v declare_v mar._n 16._o go_v you_o into_o all_o the_o world_n &_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n he_o that_o shall_v believe_v &_o be_v baptize_v shall_v be_v save_v but_o he_o that_o will_v not_o believe_v promise_n abraham_n merit_v not_o the_o promise_n shall_v be_v damn_v man_n sure_o have_v not_o merit_v it_o no_o not_o abraham_n himself_o who_o be_v not_o make_v partaker_n of_o the_o promise_n see_v that_o he_o die_v long_o before_o the_o fulfil_n thereof_o in_o spirit_n in_o deed_n and_o faith_n he_o be_v partaker_n of_o it_o but_o he_o live_v not_o so_o long_o till_o the_o gospel_n be_v reveal_v to_o the_o whole_a world_n the_o promise_n therefore_o be_v make_v unto_o he_o although_o as_o i_o have_v say_v he_o look_v not_o for_o the_o fulfil_v thereof_o in_o this_o life_n that_o be_v his_o life_n be_v not_o prolong_v until_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n although_o in_o faith_n he_o obtain_v the_o gospel_n for_o himself_o wherefore_o it_o can_v not_o be_v say_v that_o that_o promise_n be_v due_a to_o his_o merit_n otherwise_o he_o must_v have_v live_v in_o the_o earth_n until_o the_o fulfil_n thereof_o and_o a_o due_a price_n or_o reward_n must_v have_v be_v pay_v unto_o he_o but_o now_o the_o perform_n of_o the_o promise_n be_v after_o his_o death_n so_o that_o every_o one_o must_v needs_o confess_v that_o that_o promise_n be_v not_o make_v to_o abraham_n because_o of_o his_o merit_n again_o it_o can_v not_o be_v say_v promise_n the_o gentile_n merit_v not_o the_o enjoy_n of_o the_o promise_n that_o the_o gentile_n which_o enjoy_v this_o promise_n have_v obtain_v it_o by_o their_o merit_n which_o then_o be_v not_o god_n promise_v to_o the_o father_n and_o perform_v not_o he_o perform_v to_o the_o gentile_n to_o who_o notwithstanding_o no_o promise_n be_v make_v who_o all_o at_o that_o time_n be_v not_o god_n will_v always_o retain_v to_o himself_o his_o honour_n and_o be_v the_o same_o god_n although_o the_o wicked_a world_n can_v not_o be_v so_o persuade_v he_o chasten_v reprove_v rebuke_v provoke_v stir_v allure_v do_v whatsoever_o be_v to_o be_v do_v but_o the_o worldling_n rob_v he_o of_o his_o honour_n and_o attribute_v it_o to_o themselves_o that_o be_v they_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v that_o whatsoever_o they_o possess_v or_o have_v honour_n yet_o he_o have_v affirm_v in_o the_o scripture_n that_o he_o will_v keep_v his_o honour_n and_o glory_n only_o to_o himself_o that_o so_o he_o may_v be_v acknowledge_v to_o give_v all_o thing_n of_o his_o mere_a and_o only_a grace_n these_o thing_n he_o that_o beleve_v do_v also_o receive_v they_o he_o that_o do_v not_o believe_v shall_v at_o the_o length_n receive_v his_o due_a money_n a_o rich_a wife_n fair_a and_o beautiful_a child_n goodly_a house_n and_o whatsoever_o the_o world_n be_v delight_v in_o but_o now_o i_o perceive_v it_o to_o be_v otherwise_o i_o hear_v that_o we_o must_v without_o fear_n serve_v he_o in_o holiness_n &_o righteousness_n and_o so_o please_v he_o wherefore_o it_o shall_v be_v meet_a that_o we_o apply_v hereunto_o spiritual_a eye_n and_o ear_n although_o he_o as_o yet_o feel_v they_o as_o we_o have_v say_v a_o little_a before_o he_o be_v certain_a that_o death_n have_v no_o power_n in_o he_o that_o satan_n do_v not_o overcome_v he_o that_o the_o world_n can_v not_o prevail_v against_o he_o such_o a_o hart_n be_v without_o all_o peril_n and_o fear_n &_o plain_o free_a from_o they_o which_o do_v not_o thou_o so_o understand_v as_o though_o we_o do_v not_o feel_v sin_n at_o all_o but_o that_o we_o be_v great_o grieve_v when_o sin_n trouble_v we_o when_o the_o image_n or_o sight_n of_o death_n terrifi_v we_o when_o as_o be_v reproach_v and_o sclaunder_v of_o the_o world_n we_o stand_v as_o destitute_a and_o have_v none_o in_o this_o earth_n to_o who_o we_o may_v turn_v we_o or_o resort_v for_o succour_n but_o god_n alone_o these_o thing_n in_o deed_n be_v feel_v but_o they_o do_v not_o prevail_v nor_o overcome_v we_o for_o the_o hart_n notwithstanding_o remain_v safe_a and_o quiet_a in_o god_n so_o poverty_n also_o be_v feel_v when_o thou_o be_v pinch_v with_o hunger_n &_o have_v not_o wherewithal_o to_o fill_v thy_o belly_n to_o maintain_v thy_o wife_n and_o bring_v up_o thy_o child_n nor_o any_o certain_a place_n where_o to_o dwell_v and_o abide_v but_o all_o these_o thing_n shall_v not_o hurt_v thou_o thou_o must_v ask_v of_o god_n whatsoever_o thou_o need_v &_o serve_v he_o without_o fear_n
