a_o ground_n in_o justice_n to_o absolve_v a_o sinner_n and_o therefore_o in_o this_o christ_n satisfaction_n as_o present_v and_o plead_v must_v be_v the_o only_a ground_n for_o it_o be_v with_o respect_n to_o that_o only_a by_o which_o a_o sinner_n can_v be_v justify_v and_o this_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o christ_n phil._n 3.9_o covenant_v again_o be_v a_o mutual_a deed_n wherein_o the_o ground_n of_o justification_n that_o faith_n be_v so_o to_o be_v understand_v in_o rom._n 10_o 5.6.and_n gal._n 3.10_o 11_o 12_o etc._n etc._n be_v evident_a for_o the_o righteousness_n speak_v of_o what_o he_o have_v purchase_v in_o satisfy_v the_o first_o covenant_n answ._n 1._o this_o mis-representeth_a god_n way_n of_o covenant_v who_o have_v not_o appoint_v our_o pay_v of_o a_o small_a rent_n as_o it_o be_v a_o penny_n to_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o our_o right_n unto_o christ_n purchase_n but_o see_v christ_n become_v cautioner_n in_o our_o name_n to_o pay_v the_o debt_n he_o have_v righteousness_n be_v but_o one_o in_o itself_o by_o faith_n apprehend_v and_o make_v we_o 3._o although_o this_o may_v seem_v not_o to_o exalt_v work_n by_o give_v they_o any_o merit_n yet_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o account_v they_o even_o to_o be_v our_o evangelick-righteousnesse_n or_o a_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o there_o will_v still_o be_v a_o readiness_n to_o heighten_v they_o above_o their_o own_o place_n which_o derogate_v to_o the_o way_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v lay_v down_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n for_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o exceed_v in_o reference_n to_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o consider_v in_o itself_o whereas_o when_o faith_n be_v only_o respect_v as_o it_o apprehend_v christ_n it_o can_v be_v so_o consider_v for_o it_o not_o only_o merit_v nothing_o but_o it_o exclude_v merit_n and_o all_o boast_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n have_v thus_o wise_o order_v that_o all_o may_v be_v keep_v from_o boast_v even_o of_o faith_n 4._o we_o may_v answer_v if_o by_o legall-righteousnesse_n be_v understand_v that_o which_o may_v be_v satisfy_v to_o the_o law_n so_o christ_n indeed_o be_v our_o legall-righteousnesse_n yet_o so_o as_o by_o the_o gospel_n only_o we_o have_v access_n to_o he_o and_o have_v a_o promise_n of_o be_v accept_v through_o he_o without_o the_o receive_n of_o which_o by_o faith_n he_o be_v not_o a_o legall-righteousnesse_n to_o any_o and_o so_o he_o be_v our_o only_a evangelick-righteousnesse_n also_o and_o thus_o our_o legall-righteousnesse_n and_o evangelic_n be_v the_o same_o for_o there_o be_v but_o one_o charge_n to_o a_o sinner_n which_o only_o can_v be_v answer_v by_o flee_v to_o christ_n and_o so_o he_o be_v our_o legall-righteousnesse_n as_o the_o law_n charge_v be_v satisfy_v by_o he_o and_o he_o be_v our_o evangelick-righteousnesse_n as_o that_o mean_a of_o answer_v the_o law_n be_v to_o we_o propose_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o for_o we_o upon_o the_o condition_n foresay_a accept_v by_o the_o same_o without_o which_o christ_n have_v never_o be_v our_o legall-righteousnesse_n and_o the_o divide_n of_o these_o two_o righteousness_n do_v suppone_v that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o legall-righteousnesse_n in_o christ_n to_o such_o as_o may_v actual_o never_o partake_v thereof_o and_o we_o be_v afraid_a that_o some_o such_o thing_n may_v occasion_v this_o distinction_n whereas_o god_n way_n in_o the_o gospel_n be_v to_o provide_v a_o righteousness_n for_o such_o as_o be_v give_v to_o christ_n by_o which_o they_o may_v be_v actual_o justify_v isa._n 53.11_o and_o if_o christ_n be_v not_o this_o gospel-righteousnesse_n what_o can_v be_v it_o for_o it_o be_v by_o he_o we_o be_v free_v from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n which_o be_v the_o end_n wherefore_o this_o gospel-righteousnesse_n be_v preach_v and_o it_o be_v by_o put_v on_o he_o that_o even_o the_o gospel_n hold_v forth_o justification_n but_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o it_o etc._n etc._n now_o to_o come_v to_o our_o assertion_n the_o first_o of_o they_o be_v this_o if_o we_o take_v a_o condition_n large_o repentance_n may_v be_v call_v a_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n as_o sensible_a poverty_n may_v be_v call_v a_o condition_n upon_o which_o alm_n be_v give_v or_o as_o the_o forsake_v of_o the_o father_n house_n and_o cleave_v to_o the_o husband_n may_v be_v call_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o marriage_n as_o conviction_n may_v be_v call_v a_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n because_o it_o be_v suppose_v yet_o second_o we_o assert_v that_o if_o we_o take_v a_o condition_n strict_o and_o proper_o repentance_n can_v be_v call_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n but_o faith_n only_o in_o that_o proper_a strict_a sense_n because_o 1._o in_o the_o opposition_n of_o the_o two_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o grace_n faith_n be_v put_v in_o opposition_n to_o work_n and_o repentance_n be_v not_o so_o formal_o oppose_v rom._n 10._o may_v be_v call_v condition_n thereof_o yet_o be_v they_o not_o proper_o the_o condition_n which_o constitute_v a_o person_n marry_v to_o another_o because_o they_o act_n not_o so_o as_o to_o receive_v and_o close_v with_o the_o propose_a offer_n 3._o repentance_n be_v not_o that_o which_o formal_o constitute_v one_o a_o covenanter_n because_o one_o be_v not_o a_o covenanter_n as_o he_o be_v a_o penitent_a but_o as_o he_o be_v a_o believer_n for_o the_o immediate_a satisfy_a ground_n of_o one_o claim_n to_o the_o covenant_n be_v because_o by_o faith_n he_o have_v receive_v the_o offer_n and_o therefore_o as_o such_o he_o have_v right_a to_o the_o covenant_n it_o will_v not_o so_o follow_v from_o repentance_n to_o wit_n upon_o this_o formal_a consideration_n he_o exercise_v repentance_n therefore_o upon_o that_o formal_a consideration_n he_o be_v a_o covenanter_n it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o the_o former_a because_o a_o penitent_a be_v a_o covenanter_n 4._o that_o which_o be_v proper_o the_o condition_n do_v of_o itself_o upon_o its_o fulfil_n give_v one_o a_o title_n to_o the_o thing_n promise_v and_o do_v become_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o right_a unto_o they_o it_o be_v so_o upon_o supposition_n of_o fulfil_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o it_o be_v so_o in_o all_o covenant_n but_o repentance_n can_v do_v so_o therefore_o etc._n etc._n if_o it_o be_v say_v although_o repentance_n can_v so_o do_v it_o alone_o yet_o faith_n and_o it_o may_v do_v so_o together_o and_o see_v by_o this_o opinion_n faith_n be_v admit_v with_o repentance_n joint_o to_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o argument_n can_v hold_v because_o it_o be_v not_o say_v that_o repentance_n be_v the_o only_a condition_n answ._n the_o argument_n do_v shut_v out_o repentance_n from_o be_v account_v any_o part_n of_o the_o proper_a condition_n thus_o if_o repentance_n can_v joint_o with_o believe_v in_o christ_n be_v put_v in_o as_o a_o piece_n of_o our_o righteousness_n before_o god_n throne_n than_o it_o can_v be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o proper_a condition_n because_o the_o perform_n of_o the_o proper_a condition_n have_v a_o ground_n in_o all_o covenant_n to_o plead_v for_o the_o performance_n of_o what_o be_v promise_v and_o the_o absolve_a of_o the_o party_n fulfil_v the_o same_o upon_o that_o account_n but_o the_o former_a can_v
