happiness_n in_o the_o please_a and_o serve_v of_o the_o great_a god_n oh_o the_o strange_a folly_n and_o bruitishness_n of_o these_o man_n who_o be_v so_o forward_o of_o themselves_o to_o seek_v out_o after_o any_o thing_n which_o they_o believe_v make_v for_o their_o temporal_a good_a and_o yet_o will_v not_o by_o any_o mean_n be_v draw_v or_o drive_v to_o that_o which_o be_v indeed_o for_o their_o spiritual_a and_o eternal_a good_a yea_o and_o their_o temporal_a too_o so_o far_o as_o may_v consist_v with_o these_o as_o if_o when_o they_o be_v contrive_v and_o work_v for_o the_o body_n then_o only_o they_o be_v about_o their_o own_o business_n but_o when_o they_o be_v mind_v the_o matter_n of_o their_o soul_n they_o be_v employ_v for_o some_o body_n else_o in_o work_n that_o will_v be_v of_o no_o use_n or_o advantage_n to_o they_o when_o yet_o god_n himself_o have_v tell_v we_o that_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o religion_n if_o we_o be_v wise_a we_o be_v wise_a for_o ourselves_o but_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v by_o reason_n of_o that_o sottishness_n which_o incline_v poor_a creature_n to_o judge_v of_o all_o thing_n by_o their_o sense_n and_o to_o measure_v their_o goodness_n by_o their_o suitableness_n to_o the_o flesh_n this_o make_v the_o whole_a gospel_n to_o be_v a_o mere_a riddle_n to_o they_o and_o little_o more_o regard_v than_o a_o strange_a story_n for_o it_o the_o like_a expression_n be_v so_o dark_a and_o knotty_a that_o they_o know_v not_o what_o to_o make_v of_o they_o they_o account_v nothing_o beauty_n but_o what_o they_o can_v look_v on_o nor_o bravery_n which_o make_v not_o a_o noise_n and_o show_v in_o the_o world_n they_o know_v no_o raiment_n they_o need_v but_o what_o they_o wear_v on_o their_o back_n nor_o any_o food_n but_o that_o which_o they_o put_v in_o their_o purse_n and_o lay_v up_o in_o their_o bag_n and_o this_o same_o blindness_n and_o carnality_n among_o all_o other_o mischief_n that_o it_o do_v occasion_n the_o contempt_n of_o that_o sacred_a appointment_n of_o christ_n the_o commemoration_n of_o his_o death_n by_o partake_v of_o his_o supper_n for_o here_o be_v nothing_o provide_v to_o give_v that_o entertainment_n to_o greedy_a rage_a sensualist_n which_o they_o covet_v and_o hunt_v after_o it_o be_v indeed_o very_a well_o worthy_a our_o observation_n that_o so_o far_o as_o our_o sense_n may_v be_v helpful_a to_o we_o in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n he_o have_v gracious_o condescend_v to_o use_v such_o mean_n as_o may_v work_v upon_o and_o affect_v they_o that_o thereby_o faith_n itself_o our_o apprehension_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o see_v not_o may_v be_v quicken_v and_o advance_v which_o as_o in_o some_o other_o instance_n so_o in_o this_o sacrament_n especial_o be_v make_v manifest_a for_o here_o we_o have_v a_o crucify_a christ_n plain_o hold_v forth_o to_o we_o and_o the_o benefit_n we_o receive_v by_o he_o be_v signify_v by_o those_o material_a thing_n bread_n and_o wine_n which_o we_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o thus_o far_o god_n have_v make_v provision_n for_o sense_n itself_o the_o more_o to_o excite_v and_o stir_v up_o our_o dull_a spirit_n but_o so_o far_o to_o the_o quench_n of_o all_o true_a zeal_n and_o spiritual_a affection_n in_o god_n service_n but_o the_o gospel_n warrant_v not_o any_o such_o hurtful_a device_n and_o our_o church_n do_v just_o reject_v they_o nor_o be_v here_o a_o feast_n of_o dainty_n to_o satisfy_v a_o luxurious_a appetite_n or_o feed_v a_o hungry_a belly_n here_o be_v food_n for_o the_o soul_n indeed_o represent_v and_o as_o a_o spiritual_a hunger_n what_o a_o soul_n be_v hungry_a how_o can_v that_o be_v alas_o they_o have_v so_o much_o to_o do_v to_o supply_v the_o necessity_n of_o their_o body_n that_o they_o can_v have_v while_n to_o regard_v their_o soul_n no_o they_o may_v sink_v or_o swim_v starve_v and_o damn_v for_o they_o for_o they_o have_v other_o matter_n to_o mind_n which_o they_o hold_v more_o necessary_a be_v it_o not_o a_o wonder_n what_o we_o read_v matth._n 22._o at_o the_o beginning_n that_o when_o the_o king_n have_v make_v a_o marriage_n for_o his_o son_n and_o prepare_v a_o feast_n and_o send_v forth_o his_o servant_n to_o invite_v the_o guest_n they_o shall_v make_v light_n of_o it_o and_o begin_v to_o frame_v excuse_n that_o they_o have_v other_o business_n to_o do_v and_o this_o and_o that_o way_n to_o go_v and_o therefore_o can_v not_o come_v what_o not_o come_v to_o a_o feast_n to_o a_o sumptuous_a marriage-feast_n to_o a_o feast_n make_v for_o the_o king_n son_n and_o when_o servant_n be_v send_v on_o purpose_n to_o invite_v they_o to_o it_o be_v not_o these_o a_o strange_a sort_n of_o stubborn_a foolish_a man_n that_o will_v disobey_v their_o own_o king_n a_o neighbour_n and_o get_v he_o to_o read_v it_o to_o they_o and_o they_o can_v mark_v it_o so_o diligent_o as_o to_o follow_v its_o direction_n or_o if_o they_o be_v in_o any_o trouble_n about_o their_o estate_n they_o can_v carry_v their_o deed_n and_o evidence_n to_o a_o lawyer_n and_o pray_v he_o to_o peruse_v they_o and_o tell_v they_o how_o the_o case_n stand_v with_o they_o and_o what_o can_v they_o get_v no_o body_n to_o read_v the_o bible_n or_o some_o good_a book_n to_o they_o that_o may_v direct_v they_o in_o the_o way_n to_o salvation_n or_o can_v they_o not_o have_v hearken_v careful_o to_o their_o minister_n whilst_o he_o be_v tell_v they_o what_o they_o must_v do_v or_o may_v they_o not_o have_v go_v to_o he_o in_o private_a and_o desire_a particular_a instruction_n for_o their_o soul_n nay_o there_o be_v few_o family_n of_o the_o poor_a but_o one_o or_o other_o among_o they_o can_v read_v and_o may_v they_o not_o have_v take_v some_o spare_a time_n and_o have_v read_v together_o and_o discourse_v one_o with_o another_o about_o the_o state_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o order_n to_o everlasting_a happiness_n the_o plain_a truth_n be_v there_o be_v few_o but_o can_v show_v diligence_n and_o skill_n enough_o in_o any_o worldly_a trifle_n that_o they_o think_v do_v at_o all_o concern_v they_o but_o as_o i_o hint_v before_o they_o be_v so_o insensible_a of_o any_o advantage_n that_o be_v to_o be_v get_v by_o mind_v the_o thing_n of_o religion_n that_o they_o disregard_n they_o as_o matter_n of_o no_o worth_n or_o consequence_n for_o i_o can_v imagine_v whence_o this_o strange_a and_o damnable_a carelessness_n shall_v come_v but_o that_o first_o of_o all_o man_n forget_v that_o they_o have_v soul_n which_o will_v never_o concern_v they_o do_v they_o examine_v themselves_o by_o the_o word_n and_o apply_v it_o home_o to_o their_o own_o conscience_n and_o guide_v their_o life_n by_o it_o do_v they_o regard_v it_o as_o that_o by_o which_o they_o must_v short_o be_v judge_v and_o though_o they_o may_v sometime_o put_v up_o a_o prayer_n to_o god_n yet_o do_v they_o perform_v this_o duty_n as_o see_v any_o need_n of_o it_o take_v any_o delight_n in_o it_o or_o as_o expect_v any_o good_a from_o it_o do_v they_o before_o hand_n think_v what_o they_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o and_o so_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o a_o supply_n of_o their_o want_n not_o only_o of_o their_o body_n but_o soul_n in_o as_o good_a earnest_n as_o they_o can_v ask_v their_o neighbour_n for_o any_o thing_n they_o lack_v and_o in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o pray_v have_v they_o any_o awe_n and_o sense_n of_o god_n upon_o their_o spirit_n as_o they_o will_v have_v if_o they_o be_v put_v up_o a_o petition_n to_o a_o prince_n or_o judge_n and_o do_v they_o mind_v wâ—at_o they_o have_v be_v about_o when_o they_o come_v from_o the_o duty_n do_v they_o careful_o wait_v for_o a_o answer_n of_o their_o prayer_n and_o patient_o expect_v we_o be_v whole_o rule_v by_o our_o sense_n and_o when_o our_o miserable_a mistake_n have_v once_o take_v root_n and_o be_v become_v natural_a to_o we_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o hard_a thing_n in_o
