water_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v cleanse_v from_o all_o leprosy_n of_o sin_n and_o plain_o show_v that_o we_o care_v not_o for_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o our_o peace_n nay_o where_o be_v of_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o commandment_n be_v in_o the_o people_n notwithstanding_o the_o never_o so_o great_a carefulness_n in_o the_o minister_n of_o jesus_n christ_n paul_n may_v plant_v and_o apollo_n may_v water_v 3.6.7_o 1_o cor._n 3.6.7_o but_o unless_o god_n do_v give_v the_o increase_n paul_n plant_n and_o apollo_n water_v be_v not_o any_o thing_n to_o no_o purpose_n at_o all_o semblable_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n jesus_n may_v like_v good_a watchman_n stand_v upon_o their_o watch_n and_o give_v warning_n from_o the_o lord_n they_o may_v labour_v in_o all_o good_a conscience_n and_o with_o all_o carefullnesse_n to_o stir_v up_o their_o people_n unto_o a_o godly_a care_n of_o walk_v sober_o and_o righteous_o and_o godly_a in_o this_o present_a world_n but_o unless_o god_n do_v stir_v up_o this_o care_n in_o they_o by_o the_o power_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n the_o minister_n spend_v his_o strength_n in_o vain_a and_o for_o nothing_o in_o respect_n of_o they_o hence_o than_o it_o be_v that_o there_o be_v so_o little_a care_n of_o grow_v up_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n will_n and_o in_o all_o obedience_n thereunto_o even_o because_o the_o people_n heart_n be_v not_o so_o soften_v and_o mollify_v by_o god_n holy_a spirit_n that_o they_o shall_v take_v care_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o their_o peace_n but_o lie_v still_o no_o such_o care_n and_o desire_v in_o you_o it_o be_v because_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o as_o yet_o by_o his_o powerful_a spirit_n wrought_v this_o holy_a care_n and_o desire_v in_o you_o strive_v therefore_o by_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o grace_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n whereby_o you_o may_v be_v stir_v up_o unto_o this_o care_n and_o desire_n and_o frequent_a with_o all_o diligence_n place_n of_o holy_a and_o religious_a exercise_n that_o so_o that_o weak_a and_o languish_a desire_n which_o be_v in_o you_o by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n spirit_n work_v with_o the_o word_n may_v be_v raise_v and_o increase_v as_o for_o you_o who_o heart_n the_o lord_n have_v inflame_v with_o a_o godly_a care_n and_o desire_n that_o you_o may_v grow_v up_o in_o all_o knowledge_n in_o knowledge_n 11._o phil._n 1.9_o 10_o 11._o and_o in_o all_o judgement_n etc._n etc._n in_o a_o word_n let_v those_o that_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o christ_n and_o disposer_n of_o god_n secret_n so_o tender_a their_o good_a over_o who_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v they_o overseer_n that_o they_o more_o regard_v the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o their_o peace_n than_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o their_o own_o estate_n and_o again_o you_o that_o hear_v the_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n at_o their_o mouth_n and_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o way_n of_o your_o god_n by_o their_o ministry_n so_o care_v to_o grow_v up_o by_o their_o ministry_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n will_n and_o in_o all_o obedience_n thereunto_o that_o you_o care_v more_o for_o that_o then_o for_o all_o thing_n else_o of_o this_o life_n whatsoever_o and_o let_v this_o serve_v for_o our_o first_o note_n 2._o in_o this_o great_a commendation_n of_o epaphroditus_n and_o in_o these_o many_o title_n wherewith_o the_o apostle_n honour_v he_o i_o note_v the_o apostle_n his_o great_a modesty_n towards_o those_o that_o be_v call_v to_o be_v minister_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o walk_v with_o a_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o apostle_n yet_o do_v he_o call_v epaphroditus_n his_o fellow_n soldier_n and_o one_o that_o fight_v against_o spiritual_a wickedness_n and_o suffer_v many_o trouble_n and_o endure_v manifold_a tentation_n as_o he_o do_v in_o one_o word_n he_o be_v every_o way_n far_o and_o incomparable_o above_o he_o yet_o do_v he_o make_v he_o one_o as_o it_o be_v and_o almost_o equal_a with_o himself_o and_o high_o honour_n and_o magnify_v the_o gift_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n in_o he_o neither_o do_v he_o account_v it_o any_o disparagement_n unto_o himself_o to_o do_v so_o now_o what_o shall_v this_o teach_v we_o sure_o this_o shall_v be_v a_o lesson_n unto_o all_o in_o general_n who_o the_o lord_n have_v any_o way_n advance_v above_o their_o brethren_n not_o to_o despise_v the_o mean_a of_o their_o brethren_n and_o in_o particular_a unto_o those_o of_o great_a place_n in_o the_o ministry_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o extenuate_v and_o lessen_v the_o gift_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n
this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o withal_o see_v and_o consider_v with_o yourselves_o what_o a_o longing_n and_o thirst_v desire_v you_o shall_v have_v after_o this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n jesus_n even_o by_o hear_v and_o by_o read_v and_o by_o faith_n be_v as_o not_o long_o since_o we_o hear_v the_o most_o excellent_a knowledge_n that_o be_v but_o this_o experimental_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n to_o know_v by_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v such_o as_o by_o the_o word_n we_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v this_o be_v the_o most_o sweet_a and_o most_o comfortable_a knowledge_n even_o so_o sweet_a and_o so_o comfortable_a as_o pass_v all_o understanding_n if_o you_o have_v this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n you_o be_v already_o enter_v in_o part_n into_o those_o joy_n which_o be_v reserve_v in_o heaven_n for_o you_o if_o you_o have_v it_o not_o o_o thirst_n after_o it_o and_o give_v your_o soul_n no_o rest_n till_o you_o come_v unto_o this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n give_v all_o diligence_n unto_o the_o read_n and_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n of_o life_n &_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n of_o prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n that_o you_o may_v know_v christ_n with_o a_o feel_a knowledge_n and_o with_o a_o sweet_a experience_n in_o your_o own_o soul_n that_o whatsoever_o you_o have_v hear_v and_o believe_v of_o he_o be_v most_o true_a the_o second_o thing_n which_o here_o i_o note_n be_v from_o what_o root_n this_o experimental_a and_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n issue_v and_o spring_v and_o that_o be_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n for_o so_o we_o be_v to_o understand_v this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v a_o vantage_n follow_v the_o renounce_n of_o our_o own_o righteousness_n and_o rejoice_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n by_o faith_n as_o that_o this_o vantage_n spring_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n hence_o than_o i_o observe_v that_o only_o they_o know_v christ_n by_o this_o experimental_a knowledge_n who_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n do_v by_o a_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n haply_o the_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n jesus_n unto_o themselves_o for_o then_o do_v we_o begin_v to_o have_v this_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n when_o by_o faith_n we_o lay_v hold_v on_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n jesus_n to_o be_v justify_v thereby_o and_o the_o more_o sure_a hold_n that_o we_o lie_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o faith_n on_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o more_o we_o grow_v up_o in_o this_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n jesus_n we_o believe_v say_v peter_n unto_o christ_n 6.69_o joh._n 6.69_o and_o know_v that_o thou_o be_v the_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n we_o believe_v say_v he_o and_o know_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v we_o believe_v and_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n by_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n witness_v it_o to_o our_o spirit_n we_o know_v that_o thou_o be_v the_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n faith_n then_o in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v the_o root_n whence_o soul_n many_o of_o we_o that_o have_v hear_v and_o read_v of_o he_o know_v not_o that_o he_o be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o we_o wisdom_n or_o righteousness_n sanctification_n or_o redemption_n many_o of_o we_o know_v not_o what_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n or_o knowledge_n or_o salvation_n be_v lay_v up_o in_o he_o for_o we_o many_o of_o we_o i_o fear_v i_o feel_v not_o in_o ourselves_o the_o sweetness_n of_o christ_n the_o fruit_n of_o his_o suffering_n the_o comfort_n of_o his_o promise_n the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n many_o of_o we_o i_o fear_v i_o only_o know_v christ_n as_o we_o hear_v of_o christ_n and_o read_v of_o christ_n but_o know_v he_o not_o by_o his_o comfortable_a presence_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o sure_o we_o have_v no_o root_n in_o ourselves_o we_o want_v that_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n whence_o such_o knowledge_n shall_v spring_v we_o deceive_v ourselves_o flatter_v ourselves_o and_o say_v we_o believe_v in_o christ_n we_o know_v christ_n when_o as_o we_o neither_o believe_v in_o he_o nor_o know_v he_o a_o smattering_n faith_n and_o a_o smattering_n knowledge_n of_o christ_n we_o have_v but_o a_o justify_n faith_n or_o save_v knowledge_n we_o have_v none_o be_v then_o a_o justify_n faith_n the_o root_n whence_o a_o feeling_n and_o save_v knowledge_n do_v spring_n let_v this_o then_o teach_v we_o to_o use_v with_o all_o religious_a reverence_n those_o mean_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v ordain_v for_o the_o beget_n and_o increase_v of_o faith_n in_o we_o that_o we_o may_v believe_v and_o know_v and_o grow_v in_o faith_n we_o may_v grow_v also_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n jesus_n let_v we_o with_o reverence_n hearken_v unto_o the_o word_n preach_v and_o celebrate_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n two_o ordinary_a mean_n which_o the_o lord_n use_v thereby_o to_o beget_v and_o to_o increase_v faith_n in_o us._n for_o faith_n come_v by_o hear_v as_o the_o apostle_n witness_v his_o bone_n as_o that_o we_o ought_v as_o steadfast_o to_o believe_v this_o by_o faith_n as_o we_o perfect_o know_v that_o by_o sense_n such_o be_v the_o help_n
respect_n not_o for_o christ_n jesus_n his_o sake_n or_o in_o christ_n jesus_n nay_o common_o we_o can_v satisfy_v ourselves_o well_o enough_o with_o our_o love_n of_o one_o another_o as_o christian_n enough_o sincere_a enough_o and_o holy_a enough_o though_o in_o our_o love_n there_o be_v never_o a_o one_o of_o these_o quality_n though_o neither_o we_o long_o after_o they_o from_o the_o very_a heart_n root_n in_o christ_n jesus_n nor_o long_o after_o they_o from_o the_o very_a heart_n root_n nor_o long_o after_o they_o at_o all_o and_o as_o it_o be_v with_o man_n general_o so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o pastor_n particular_o too_o many_o that_o can_v be_v long_o absent_a from_o their_o flock_n and_o yet_o not_o long_o after_o they_o to_o see_v they_o to_o bestow_v some_o spiritual_a gift_n upon_o they_o too_o many_o that_o love_v not_o their_o flock_n from_o the_o very_a heart_n root_n too_o many_o that_o love_v their_o flock_n only_o for_o their_o fleece_n but_o not_o in_o christ_n jesus_n but_o very_o few_o like_a unto_o aaron_n bear_v the_o name_n of_o their_o people_n before_o the_o lord_n 28.12_o exod._n 28.12_o upon_o their_o two_o shoulder_n for_o a_o remembrance_n very_o few_o that_o bear_v as_o aaron_n the_o name_n of_o their_o people_n in_o a_o breastplate_n upon_o their_o hart_n that_o be_v 29._o 29._o very_o few_o that_o have_v their_o people_n in_o their_o heart_n to_o deal_v unto_o they_o not_o the_o gospel_n only_o but_o also_o their_o own_o soul_n because_o they_o be_v dear_a unto_o they_o whereas_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o with_o water_n in_o itself_o but_o send_v they_o out_o unto_o other_o so_o their_o love_n may_v not_o be_v shut_v within_o their_o own_o bowel_n but_o issue_n out_o unto_o the_o good_a of_o other_o and_o he_o pray_v that_o their_o love_n may_v abound_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o whereby_o he_o impli_v that_o their_o love_n be_v manifest_a and_o that_o their_o love_n abound_v for_o the_o stream_n thereof_o have_v flow_v unto_o he_o be_v in_o prison_n at_o rome_n and_o he_o pray_v that_o it_o may_v abound_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o but_o how_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n mean_v the_o general_a knowledge_n of_o god_n will_v out_o of_o his_o word_n and_o by_o judgement_n he_o mean_v such_o a_o experience_n and_o sense_n in_o themselves_o of_o spiritual_a thing_n as_o through_o which_o man_n expert_a in_o the_o word_n of_o righteousness_n have_v their_o wit_n or_o spiritual_a sense_n exercise_v to_o discern_v both_o good_a &_o evil_a as_o by_o compare_v this_o place_n with_o that_o to_o the_o hebrew_n it_o may_v appear_v for_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n there_o have_v 5.14_o heb._n 5.14_o strong_a meat_n belong_v to_o they_o that_o be_v of_o age_n which_o through_o custom_n have_v their_o wit_n exercise_v to_o discern_v both_o good_a and_o evil_a be_v as_o if_o we_o shall_v read_v after_o the_o phrase_n of_o our_o apostle_n here_o thus_o strong_a meat_n belong_v to_o they_o that_o be_v of_o age_n which_o through_o judgement_n can_v discern_v both_o good_a and_o evil_a so_o that_o the_o apostle_n pray_v that_o they_o may_v abound_v as_o in_o love_n so_o in_o knowledge_n of_o god_n will_v out_o of_o his_o word_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n i_o in_o sound_a judgement_n through_o a_o feel_a experience_n in_o themselves_o of_o such_o spiritual_a thing_n as_o they_o know_v by_o the_o word_n whereon_o their_o love_n may_v be_v ground_v and_o why_o do_v he_o pray_v for_o their_o growth_n and_o increase_n in_o these_o thing_n even_o for_o these_o end_n 1._o that_o they_o may_v discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o good_a from_o bad_a and_o uncorrupt_a from_o corrupt_a doctrine_n 2._o that_o they_o may_v be_v pure_a from_o stain_n or_o corruption_n in_o doctrine_n faith_n or_o manner_n 3._o that_o they_o may_v be_v without_o offence_n neither_o slip_a back_n nor_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n but_o hold_v on_o a_o constant_a course_n until_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n 4._o that_o they_o may_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n abound_v in_o every_o good_a work_n which_o be_v by_o jesus_n christ_n from_o who_o they_o have_v their_o beginning_n unto_o the_o glory_n and_o praise_n of_o god_n which_o be_v their_o end_n these_o be_v the_o end_n for_o which_o he_o pray_v that_o their_o love_n may_v abound_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o etc._n etc._n so_o that_o the_o thing_n principal_o to_o be_v note_v in_o these_o word_n be_v three_o first_o the_o apostle_n action_n of_o pray_v this_o i_o pray_v second_o the_o thing_n for_o which_o he_o pray_v which_o be_v three_o 1._o their_o increase_n in_o love_n 2._o their_o increase_n in_o knowledge_n 3._o their_o inerease_n in_o judgement_n three_o the_o end_n wherefore_o he_o pray_v for_o these_o thing_n unto_o they_o which_o be_v four_o as_o even_o now_o we_o hear_v now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o note_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o far_a use_n and_o instruction_n the_o first_o thing_n which_o here_o i_o note_n be_v that_o the_o apostle_n pray_v for_o the_o philippian_n that_o their_o love_n may_v abound_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o etc._n etc._n the_o philippian_n abound_v in_o love_n in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o judgement_n yet_o still_o the_o apostle_n pray_v that_o they_o may_v abound_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o in_o these_o thing_n whence_o 1._o i_o observe_v the_o continual_a use_n and_o necessity_n of_o prayer_n whatsoever_o grace_n the_o lord_n have_v bestow_v on_o we_o yet_o still_o we_o have_v need_v to_o pray_v even_o that_o we_o may_v yet_o more_o and_o more_o abound_v in_o those_o very_a grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n be_v pray_v my_o brethren_n say_v the_o apostle_n be_v not_o child_n in_o understanding_n but_o as_o concern_v maliciousness_n be_v child_n but_o in_o understanding_n be_v of_o a_o ripe_a age_n the_o apostle_n have_v before_o signify_v his_o own_o mind_n of_o pray_v and_o speak_v in_o strange_a tongue_n without_o understanding_n and_o in_o a_o know_a tongue_n with_o understanding_n therein_o tax_v their_o too_o great_a admire_v of_o strange_a tongue_n and_o too_o little_a regard_n of_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n now_o in_o effect_n he_o tell_v they_o that_o therein_o they_o be_v like_a unto_o little_a child_n which_o if_o they_o see_v fair_a and_o great_a and_o colour_a letter_n in_o a_o book_n be_v in_o great_a love_n with_o the_o letter_n but_o care_v not_o for_o the_o sense_n and_o understanding_n of_o the_o word_n but_o he_o exhort_v they_o be_v not_o child_n in_o understanding_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v child_n indeed_o care_v not_o for_o understanding_n but_o it_o may_v not_o be_v so_o with_o you_o you_o be_v child_n sometime_o and_o care_v not_o for_o understanding_n and_o you_o be_v child_n sometime_o and_o but_o young_a in_o understanding_n and_o knowledge_n but_o you_o may_v not_o be_v so_o still_o but_o you_o must_v grow_v to_o be_v of_o a_o ripe_a age_n in_o understanding_n you_o must_v increase_v in_o knowledge_n as_o in_o year_n you_o do_v increase_v and_o lest_o they_o shall_v say_v that_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v like_a unto_o little_a child_n he_o prevent_v that_o 3._o mat._n 18_o 3._o and_o tell_v they_o that_o he_o will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v like_a unto_o little_a child_n concern_v maliciousness_n but_o concern_v knowledge_n and_o understanding_n he_o will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v no_o child_n but_o of_o a_o and_o grow_v forward_o more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n even_o from_o knowledge_n to_o knowledge_n to_o the_o like_a purpose_n be_v that_o of_o the_o apostle_n where_o he_o say_v 6.1_o heb._n 6.1_o leave_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o beginning_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o be_v lead_v forward_o unto_o perfection_n he_o have_v in_o the_o end_n of_o the_o former_a chapter_n somewhat_o sharp_o perfection_n to_o perfection_n and_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n we_o may_v not_o then_o be_v as_o idle_a loiterer_n which_o spend_v their_o time_n and_o profit_v not_o but_o as_o our_o time_n spend_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n do_v require_v of_o we_o so_o must_v our_o profit_v be_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o will_n out_o of_o his_o word_n yea_o look_v into_o our_o own_o practice_n and_o we_o shall_v find_v our_o own_o judgement_n to_o be_v such_o if_o we_o have_v child_n and_o set_v they_o to_o their_o book_n we_o look_v that_o according_a to_o their_o time_n spend_v thereat_o their_o profit_v shall_v be_v and_o that_o they_o shall_v increase_v in_o knowledge_n and_o learning_n as_o they_o grow_v in_o year_n and_o in_o time_n spend_v at_o their_o book_n and_o if_o they_o do_v not_o so_o profit_n we_o take_v they_o from_o the_o school_n and_o set_v they_o to_o some_o other_o thing_n so_o that_o by_o our_o own_o judgement_n so_o many_o of_o we_o as_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n we_o shall_v increase_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o as_o we_o spend_v more_o and_o more_o time_n in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n so_o shall_v we_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o if_o we_o do_v not_o so_o by_o our_o own_o judgement_n we_o be_v to_o be_v exclude_v as_o non_fw-la proficient_o out_o of_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n and_o what_o then_o become_v of_o we_o nothing_o then_o to_o set_v we_o unto_o but_o as_o it_o be_v say_v to_o the_o unprofitable_a servant_n cast_v that_o unprofitable_a servant_n into_o utter_a darkness_n there_o shall_v be_v weep_v and_o gnash_n of_o tooth_n 25.30_o matth._n 25.30_o so_o shall_v it_o be_v say_v to_o such_o non_fw-la proficient_o cast_v that_o non_fw-fr proficient_a scholar_n into_o utter_a darkness_n there_o shall_v be_v weep_v and_o gnash_n of_o tooth_n this_o then_o first_o may_v teach_v we_o to_o beware_v of_o your_o modesty_n if_o you_o presume_v not_o to_o read_v the_o scripture_n that_o will_v tell_v you_o it_o be_v enough_o for_o you_o to_o believe_v as_o the_o church_n believe_v though_o you_o know_v not_o how_o to_o give_v account_n of_o your_o faith_n that_o will_v allow_v well_o of_o learn_v nothing_o and_o after_o many_o year_n to_o be_v never_o the_o wise_a in_o a_o word_n that_o will_v the_o soon_o suspect_v you_o of_o heresy_n the_o more_o knowledge_n you_o have_v in_o the_o scripture_n such_o be_v they_o that_o will_v have_v pray_v sing_a reading_z and_o all_o other_o rite_n of_o the_o church_n do_v in_o a_o strange_a language_n that_o will_v have_v we_o bar_v from_o the_o read_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o a_o know_a tongue_n that_o will_v have_v none_o but_o great_a clerk_n and_o divine_n see_v in_o the_o scripture_n but_o what_o say_v the_o holy_a ghost_n search_v the_o scripture_n say_v our_o bless_a saviour_n 5.39_o joh._n 5.39_o for_o in_o they_o you_o think_v to_o have_v eternal_a life_n and_o they_o be_v they_o which_o testify_v of_o i_o grow_n say_v peter_n unto_o the_o church_n in_o grace_n 3.18_o 2_o pet._n 3.18_o and_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n and_o our_o apostle_n let_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n dwell_v in_o you_o plenteous_o in_o all_o wisdom_n 3.16_o col._n 3.16_o and_o in_o this_o place_n his_o prayer_n have_v we_o look_v into_o the_o scripture_n lest_o we_o fall_v into_o heresy_n our_o apostle_n will_v have_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n to_o dwell_v in_o we_o plenteous_o and_o they_o will_v have_v we_o only_o to_o believe_v as_o the_o church_n believe_v and_o care_v not_o though_o we_o know_v not_o how_o to_o give_v account_n of_o our_o faith_n our_o apostle_n will_v have_v we_o to_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o they_o tell_v we_o that_o ignorance_n be_v the_o mother_n of_o devotion_n see_v then_o whether_o there_o be_v not_o cause_n to_o beware_v of_o they_o and_o knowledge_n thereof_o as_o if_o they_o shall_v taste_v it_o with_o their_o mouth_n or_o see_v it_o with_o their_o eye_n it_o be_v then_o as_o if_o the_o prophet_n have_v thus_o say_v know_v you_o do_v the_o gracious_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o manifold_a mercy_n and_o more_o than_o so_o you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o your_o own_o experience_n acknowledge_v therefore_o he_o to_o be_v gracious_a who_o by_o your_o own_o experimental_a knowledge_n you_o do_v as_o it_o be_v taste_v and_o see_v to_o be_v gracious_a as_o then_o the_o prophet_n do_v exhort_v we_o and_o as_o our_o and_o experience_n in_o our_o daily_a life_n of_o such_o thing_n as_o we_o know_v by_o the_o word_n that_o so_o we_o may_v have_v not_o a_o contemplative_a only_o but_o a_o experimental_a knowledge_n of_o thing_n in_o our_o self_n as_o for_o example_n the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o that_o the_o poor_a cry_v and_o the_o lord_n hear_v he_o and_o save_v he_o out_o of_o all_o his_o trouble_n 34.6_o psal_n 34.6_o this_o we_o know_v to_o be_v true_a because_o we_o find_v it_o so_o in_o the_o word_n but_o our_o care_n shall_v be_v far_a to_o know_v it_o by_o a_o feel_a experience_n in_o our_o own_o self_n we_o must_v then_o observe_v the_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o hear_v we_o when_o we_o call_v upon_o he_o and_o deliver_v we_o in_o every_o needful_a time_n of_o trouble_n &_o so_o shall_v we_o know_v not_o only_o by_o the_o word_n but_o by_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o self_n that_o the_o lord_n hear_v the_o poor_a when_o they_o cry_v unto_o he_o and_o save_v they_o out_o of_o all_o their_o trouble_n 34.7_o psal_n 34.7_o so_o david_n beside_o this_o knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o word_n 17.37_o 1_o sam._n 17.37_o that_o the_o angel_n of_o the_o lord_n pitch_v round_o about_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o and_o deliver_v they_o have_v observe_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o by_o his_o own_o experience_n in_o his_o deliverance_n out_o of_o the_o paw_n of_o the_o lion_n 16.18_o matth._n a_o vain_a thing_n and_o thus_o in_o all_o thing_n we_o must_v observe_v that_o by_o long_a experience_n our_o spiritual_a sense_n may_v be_v exercise_v to_o know_v the_o truth_n of_o every_o thing_n that_o we_o know_v out_o of_o the_o word_n but_o so_o careless_a common_o we_o be_v that_o we_o pass_v over_o the_o mercy_n and_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o lord_n without_o observation_n at_o all_o whereby_o we_o may_v grow_v in_o all_o judgement_n and_o sound_a experience_n it_o may_v be_v that_o some_o of_o we_o sometime_o will_v desire_v to_o know_v somewhat_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n touch_v the_o sacrament_n touch_v the_o resurrection_n touch_v faith_n touch_v good_a work_n etc._n etc._n but_o what_o be_v it_o it_o be_v only_o to_o know_v it_o there_o it_o be_v not_o to_o have_v a_o feel_n of_o it_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n if_o we_o have_v the_o text_n of_o scripture_n for_o proof_n we_o think_v we_o have_v knowledge_n enough_o but_o for_o proof_n out_o of_o our_o own_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n we_o look_v not_o after_o it_o but_o belove_a you_o see_v we_o shall_v have_v a_o care_n as_o to_o abound_v in_o knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n so_o in_o sound_a judgement_n out_o of_o a_o feel_a experience_n in_o ourselves_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o that_o we_o know_v let_v we_o not_o therefore_o â—ightly_o pass_v over_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o know_v out_o of_o the_o word_n but_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o increase_v in_o a_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o they_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n let_v we_o observe_v in_o our_o daily_a experience_n that_o as_o it_o be_v write_v so_o it_o be_v indeed_o that_o when_o we_o hear_v or_o read_v such_o and_o such_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o word_n our_o own_o soul_n within_o we_o may_v give_v witness_n unto_o the_o same_o and_o say_v it_o be_v so_o indeed_o in_o my_o own_o experience_n i_o find_v it_o to_o be_v most_o true_a thus_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v and_o thus_o it_o behove_v we_o to_o do_v the_o next_o thing_n which_o here_o i_o note_v be_v that_o the_o apostle_n pray_v for_o the_o philippian_n that_o their_o love_n may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n which_o be_v that_o their_o love_n may_v be_v found_v and_o ground_v in_o sound_a knowledge_n and_o in_o sound_a judgement_n that_o each_o have_a help_n of_o other_o and_o each_o be_v furnish_v by_o other_o they_o may_v the_o better_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v etc._n etc._n whence_o i_o observe_v yet_o a_o far_a continual_a care_n necessary_a for_o all_o christian_n and_o his_o band_n in_o christ_n i_o which_o he_o sustain_v for_o christ_n his_o sake_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v famous_a throughout_o all_o the_o judgement_n hall_n i_o throughout_o all_o the_o emperor_n court_n and_o in_o all_o other_o place_n both_o of_o the_o city_n and_o of_o other_o country_n but_o how_o be_v his_o band_n famous_a in_o all_o these_o place_n namely_o because_o by_o that_o occasion_n the_o gospel_n come_v to_o be_v know_v and_o to_o be_v believe_v by_o many_o in_o all_o these_o place_n this_o be_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o his_o band_n by_o they_o the_o gospel_n be_v far_o disperse_v again_o through_o his_o band_n and_o constancy_n therein_o many_o of_o the_o brethren_n in_o the_o lord_n many_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n of_o the_o church_n be_v embolden_v more_o frank_o and_o free_o to_o speak_v the_o word_n i_o to_o profess_v and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n then_o before_o they_o dare_v and_o this_o be_v the_o second_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o his_o band_n the_o ignorance_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o error_n of_o the_o other_o yes_o my_o brethren_n so_o long_o as_o their_o ignorance_n of_o the_o truth_n be_v untainted_a with_o canker_a malice_n against_o the_o truth_n we_o may_v hope_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v call_v they_o at_o the_o sixth_o or_o nine_o or_o some_o good_a hour_n and_o reveal_v his_o holy_a truth_n unto_o they_o and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o be_v to_o bear_v with_o they_o and_o to_o support_v one_o another_o through_o love_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n the_o holy_a apostle_n when_o the_o word_n which_o they_o preach_v be_v unto_o they_o that_o hear_v they_o as_o water_v pour_v upon_o a_o stone_n yet_o cease_v not_o to_o instruct_v they_o with_o all_o patience_n hope_v that_o god_n will_v reveal_v the_o circumcision_n of_o the_o spirit_n three_o he_o tell_v they_o what_o he_o in_o his_o own_o person_n think_v of_o his_o own_o work_n and_o of_o all_o the_o privilege_n that_o he_o have_v without_o strengthen_v and_o increase_v by_o the_o holy_a use_n of_o this_o holy_a supper_n let_v we_o so_o often_o as_o we_o be_v call_v unto_o this_o holy_a table_n prepare_v ourselves_o with_o all_o holy_a reverence_n and_o fear_n to_o the_o celebration_n of_o these_o holy_a mystery_n great_a be_v the_o benefit_n that_o here_o we_o do_v receive_v if_o we_o eat_v of_o this_o bread_n and_o drink_v of_o this_o cup_n worthy_o for_o than_o we_o eat_v spiritual_o the_o flesh_n of_o christ_n and_o drink_v his_o blood_n then_o we_o dwell_v in_o christ_n and_o christ_n in_o we_o we_o be_v one_o with_o christ_n and_o christ_n with_o we_o and_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o sensible_o represent_v unto_o our_o eye_n and_o taste_n as_o that_o our_o faith_n be_v full_o assure_v thereof_o so_o that_o henceforth_o we_o know_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o christ_n be_v we_o together_o with_o whatsoever_o be_v he_o but_o if_o we_o present_v ourselves_o at_o these_o holy_a mystery_n without_o due_a preparation_n and_o examination_n of_o ourselves_o we_o have_v no_o such_o benefit_n but_o rather_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n prove_v therefore_o yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n whether_o you_o feel_v your_o heart_n assure_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o the_o punishment_n of_o your_o sin_n be_v soul_n that_o christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o unto_o they_o they_o know_v not_o what_o christ_n be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o his_o child_n they_o have_v a_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n but_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o seize_v upon_o their_o soul_n and_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o know_v the_o full_a sweetness_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o full_a worth_n of_o christ_n for_o if_o they_o know_v in_o their_o own_o soul_n that_o christ_n be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o they_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n sanctification_n and_o redemption_n they_o will_v only_o rejoice_v in_o
