more_o than_o of_o other_o that_o the_o enjoy_n of_o such_o content_n will_v prove_v exceed_o mischievous_a and_o do_v he_o a_o hundred_o time_n more_o harm_n than_o the_o content_a thereof_o can_v be_v worth_a unto_o he_o be_v we_o therefore_o as_o wary_a and_o cautelous_a for_o our_o spiritual_a health_n as_o for_o our_o natural_a let_v we_o set_v bound_n to_o ourselves_o even_o in_o the_o use_n of_o our_o lawful_a liberty_n in_o thing_n indifferent_a and_o not_o please_v our_o sense_n and_o fancy_n to_o the_o wound_a and_o hurt_v of_o our_o soul_n now_o brethren_n these_o be_v the_o most_o needful_a direction_n for_o the_o overmaster_v of_o the_o evil_n of_o our_o inward_a man_n which_o i_o think_v fit_a to_o commend_v unto_o you_o he_o that_o will_v follow_v they_o shall_v find_v a_o sensible_a decay_n of_o the_o body_n of_o death_n he_o shall_v find_v the_o flesh_n more_o and_o more_o subdue_v unto_o the_o spirit_n he_o shall_v find_v himself_o able_a to_o prevail_v against_o those_o passion_n and_o lust_n that_o he_o have_v sometime_o think_v impossible_a to_o be_v prevail_v against_o he_o shall_v be_v keep_v from_o many_o gross_a fault_n and_o many_o dangerous_a our-strayings_a and_o shall_v far_o less_o frequent_o and_o less_o violent_o be_v foil_v of_o his_o spiritual_a enemy_n then_o without_o they_o it_o will_v prove_v or_o seem_v possible_a yea_o in_o thus_o prune_v himself_o he_o shall_v save_v the_o husbandman_n a_o labour_n of_o prune_v and_o keep_v himself_o at_o ease_n from_o many_o burdensome_a cross_n that_o must_v needs_o come_v upon_o he_o otherwise_o consider_v therefore_o of_o thy_o own_o infirmity_n consider_v that_o thou_o be_v in_o part_n alone_o sanctify_v consider_v that_o sin_n be_v not_o quite_o and_o clean_o take_v from_o thy_o soul_n but_o alone_o depose_v from_o that_o tyrannical_a dominion_n which_o once_o it_o do_v exercise_n over_o thy_o soul_n consider_v that_o satan_n watch_v all_o advantage_n to_o catch_v thou_o in_o a_o snare_n and_o to_o bring_v thou_o back_o again_o to_o folly_n and_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o full_o perfect_a be_v content_a to_o devour_v the_o pain_n of_o help_v thyself_o against_o thy_o imperfection_n which_o if_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v persuade_v to_o do_v know_v that_o thou_o shall_v even_o enforce_v the_o lord_n to_o compel_v thou_o as_o it_o be_v by_o foul_a mean_n to_o the_o do_v of_o that_o without_o which_o he_o do_v well_o know_v that_o thou_o can_v not_o be_v safe_a namely_o of_o fight_v against_o the_o fleshly_a lust_n that_o fight_v against_o thy_o soul_n chap._n x._o contain_v the_o four_o and_o last_o use_n of_o the_o point_n viz._n a_o consolation_n to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n against_o their_o unallowed_a fin_n but_o moreover_o use_v 4_o this_o point_n we_o have_v speak_v of_o disallow_v comfort_n to_o god_n people_n against_o the_o sin_n which_o they_o feel_v and_o disallow_v though_o it_o seem_v at_o first_o hear_v to_o be_v altogether_o uncomfortable_a do_v yet_o afford_v a_o sure_a and_o needful_a comfort_n unto_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n that_o have_v wisdom_n to_o apply_v it_o the_o right_a way_n for_o why_o it_o follow_v hence_o necessary_o that_o the_o branch_n in_o this_o vine_n shall_v not_o be_v appall_v nor_o out_o of_o heart_n because_o they_o be_v continual_o trouble_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o many_o thing_n amiss_o which_o it_o be_v far_o more_o desirable_a to_o have_v lop_v off_o then_o continue_v upon_o they_o here_o be_v cause_n not_o of_o not_o be_v humble_v but_o of_o not_o be_v discourage_v in_o the_o senfe_fw-mi and_o feeling_n of_o our_o manifold_a corruption_n for_o it_o be_v sure_a a_o man_n may_v be_v a_o line_n and_o a_o fruitful_a branch_n and_o yet_o stand_v in_o great_a need_n of_o much_o prune_n it_o do_v often_o arise_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o true_a of_o god_n people_n as_o a_o argument_n against_o their_o truth_n that_o they_o have_v so_o many_o sin_n still_o stir_v in_o they_o and_o that_o they_o do_v daily_o transgress_v so_o many_o way_n and_o oftentimes_o in_o very_o high_a degree_n and_o gross_a kind_n now_o if_o we_o have_v well_o consult_v with_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n that_o live_v in_o former_a time_n and_o of_o who_o life_n the_o holy_a scripture_n do_v give_v we_o a_o map_n or_o abridgement_n we_o shall_v easy_o perceive_v that_o there_o be_v no_o force_n at_o all_o in_o this_o argument_n unless_o in_o so_o speak_v we_o will_v offend_v against_o the_o generation_n of_o god_n child_n as_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v in_o another_o case_n for_o what_o reason_n be_v strong_a and_o good_a against_o i_o or_o any_o of_o you_o that_o now_o live_v the_o same_o have_v be_v also_o firm_a and_o strong_a against_o many_o of_o those_o that_o be_v member_n of_o the_o church_n in_o former_a time_n and_o if_o the_o scripture_n do_v assure_v we_o of_o their_o be_v dear_o belove_v of_o god_n and_o sure_o ingraff_v into_o christ_n even_o at_o the_o self_n same_o time_n when_o they_o do_v complain_v of_o like_a corruption_n to_o those_o that_o we_o now_o do_v complain_v of_o then_o we_o may_v safe_o collect_v hence_o that_o we_o also_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o that_o we_o can_v deny_v ourselves_o to_o be_v pollute_v with_o such_o evil_n wherefore_o if_o you_o will_v true_o conclude_v of_o yourselves_o in_o this_o behalse_a whether_o you_o be_v or_o be_v not_o in_o christ_n you_o must_v not_o look_v so_o much_o only_o to_o what_o corruption_n you_o have_v as_o to_o what_o you_o allow_v for_o true_a grace_n may_v stand_v with_o the_o have_v of_o many_o but_o not_o with_o the_o allow_v of_o any_o he_o that_o excuse_v extenuate_v make_v light_n of_o any_o sin_n at_o all_o and_o think_v he_o need_v not_o great_o care_v for_o leave_v off_o that_o because_o it_o be_v so_o small_a a_o matter_n and_o because_o he_o be_v persuade_v that_o there_o be_v never_o a_o man_n alive_a but_o do_v as_o bad_a and_o therefore_o bear_v himself_o bold_o upon_o god_n misapply_v mercy_n that_o he_o shall_v do_v well_o enough_o for_o all_o that_o he_o allow_v sin_n he_o give_v it_o liberty_n and_o licence_n and_o yield_v himself_o to_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n and_o this_o man_n be_v not_o a_o live_a member_n of_o christ_n body_n nor_o a_o fruitful_a branch_n of_o this_o vine_n let_v he_o by_o no_o mean_n beguile_v himself_o nor_o suffer_v any_o form_n of_o seem_a goodness_n that_o he_o have_v in_o other_o thing_n to_o make_v he_o conceive_v well_o of_o himself_o he_o be_v doubtless_o a_o halter_n and_o christ_n jesus_n will_v reject_v he_o at_o last_o but_o he_o that_o have_v many_o sin_n see_v they_o acknowledge_v they_o to_o god_n have_v his_o soul_n trouble_v at_o they_o and_o desire_v rather_o than_o his_o life_n to_o be_v free_v of_o they_o and_o become_v exceed_o base_a in_o his_o own_o feel_n because_o of_o they_o still_o cast_v himself_o upon_o god_n gracious_a and_o free_a favour_n in_o christ_n for_o pardon_n of_o they_o may_v be_v and_o be_v a_o fruitful_a branch_n though_o he_o have_v a_o thousand_o sin_n of_o infirmity_n in_o he_o yea_o though_o he_o be_v overcome_v of_o tentation_n to_o commit_v the_o same_o sin_n again_o and_o again_o let_v not_o the_o devil_n abuse_v any_o of_o you_o to_o make_v he_o less_o careful_a of_o lament_v and_o oppose_v and_o be_v humble_v under_o his_o sin_n because_o he_o hear_v he_o may_v be_v a_o good_a christian_a and_o partake_v of_o the_o benefit_n of_o christ_n for_o all_o they_o for_o in_o so_o abuse_v this_o comfort_n you_o shall_v make_v yourselves_o uncapable_a of_o this_o comfort_n because_o it_o belong_v alone_o to_o those_o that_o so_o have_v sin_v as_o they_o be_v trouble_v vex_a and_o disquiet_v with_o it_o as_o with_o the_o break_n of_o a_o leg_n or_o arm_n and_o do_v even_o make_v haste_n to_o the_o bind_n of_o their_o soul_n up_o again_o by_o the_o renew_n of_o their_o repentance_n indeed_o the_o hypocrite_n if_o he_o can_v once_o get_v a_o conceit_n fasten_v in_o he_o that_o though_o he_o do_v commit_v such_o a_o sin_n yet_o he_o may_v go_v to_o heaven_n well_o enough_o for_o all_o that_o he_o think_v himself_o safe_a and_o be_v little_a careful_a to_o oppose_v or_o bewail_v that_o sin_n which_o he_o conceit_n will_v not_o damn_v he_o but_o the_o true_a christian_a will_v be_v no_o whit_n less_o careful_a to_o frame_v himself_o to_o mourn_v for_o sin_n and_o to_o take_v pain_n against_o it_o because_o he_o be_v secure_v for_o the_o matter_n of_o
the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n even_o as_o the_o false-hearted_a jew_n esteem_v themselves_o to_o have_v abundant_o satisfy_v the_o law_n if_o they_o do_v tie_v the_o sacrifice_n with_o cord_n to_o the_o altar_n though_o their_o soul_n be_v nothing_o affect_v with_o the_o spiritual_a thing_n that_o those_o external_a type_n do_v represent_v but_o the_o upright_a soul_n be_v much_o displease_v with_o himself_o and_o his_o service_n unless_o he_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o they_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o he_o be_v very_o sensible_a of_o deadness_n and_o call_v much_o with_o david_n for_o quicken_a and_o unless_o he_o find_v the_o efficacy_n and_o fruit_n of_o good_a exercise_n in_o his_o heart_n he_o be_v much_o disquiet_v and_o displease_v with_o himself_o and_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o be_v satisfy_v with_o have_v so_o serve_v god_n for_o he_o look_v to_o god_n that_o search_v the_o heart_n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v give_v he_o content_a if_o he_o have_v not_o find_v his_o worship_n hearty_a and_o so_o do_v the_o true_a and_o false_a christian_n devotion_n differ_v for_o end_n matter_n and_o manner_n now_o there_o be_v a_o three_o thing_n considerable_a in_o the_o point_n of_o good_a live_n shall_v a_o hypocrite_n be_v often_o precise_a in_o petty_a matter_n and_o so_o be_v also_o the_o true_a christian_n sometime_o above_o that_o he_o shall_v wherein_o they_o must_v be_v compare_v together_o the_o hypocrite_n be_v often_o very_o strict_a in_o matter_n of_o ceremony_n and_o in_o such_o small_a point_n that_o concern_v god_n worship_n and_o in_o other_o petty_a matter_n also_o so_o a_o pharisee_n will_v not_o go_v into_o the_o judgement_n hall_n to_o be_v defile_v against_o the_o passeover_n for_o any_o thing_n he_o will_v not_o neglect_v to_o pay_v tithe-mint_n for_o a_o world_n you_o see_v he_o strain_v at_o a_o gnat._n and_o diverse_a time_n it_o fall_v out_o also_o that_o the_o true-hearted_a christian_n out_o of_o scrupulous_a mistake_a and_o a_o over-tendernesse_n of_o conscience_n not_o sufficient_o temper_v with_o exactness_n of_o judgement_n or_o out_o of_o a_o long_a custom_n of_o be_v of_o such_o a_o judgement_n and_o much_o converse_v with_o man_n of_o such_o opinion_n be_v even_o more_o strict_a than_o he_o need_v and_o deprive_v himself_o of_o his_o lawful_a liberty_n of_o do_v or_o forbear_v what_o he_o may_v either_o do_v or_o forbear_v he_o the_o hypocrite_n censorious_a in_o his_o strictness_n the_o christian_a gentle_a to_o other_o that_o differ_v from_o he_o but_o there_o be_v two_o manifest_a difference_n in_o this_o matter_n the_o hypocrite_n be_v as_o censorious_a as_o strict_a as_o large_a in_o condemn_v other_o that_o jump_v not_o with_o he_o in_o judgement_n and_o practice_n as_o narrow_a in_o straightning_n himself_o about_o such_o matter_n he_o be_v bitter_a sharp_a tart_n in_o his_o censure_n of_o they_o that_o be_v different_o mind_v neither_o can_v hold_v peace_n with_o they_o nor_o suffer_v himself_o to_o maintain_v any_o good_a conceit_n of_o they_o but_o conceive_v that_o they_o make_v conscience_n of_o nothing_o because_o their_o conscience_n be_v not_o of_o his_o own_o last_o so_o the_o pharisy_n can_v not_o brook_v christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n for_o not_o wash_v and_o the_o hypocritical_a false_a teacher_n even_o make_v a_o very_o rend_v in_o the_o church_n about_o abolish_v ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n but_o the_o true_a christian_a in_o case_n of_o such_o difference_n hold_v the_o bond_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n not_o judge_v nor_o despise_v other_o but_o charitable_o refer_v they_o to_o their_o own_o master_n to_o who_o they_o stand_v or_o fall_v he_o that_o eat_v not_o condemn_v he_o that_o eat_v not_o he_o that_o eat_v not_o not_o censure_v he_o that_o eat_v but_o both_o love_o bear_v with_o each_o other_o because_o they_o both_o give_v thanks_n and_o seek_v to_o bring_v glory_n to_o one_o master_n the_o hypocrite_n will_v almost_o allow_v no_o man_n the_o name_n of_o a_o christian_a at_o least_o the_o esteem_n and_o affection_n due_a to_o one_o if_o he_o concur_v not_o with_o his_o judgement_n the_o true-hearted_a be_v ever_o charitable_a to_o the_o contrary_a side_n in_o such_o diversity_n again_o be_v the_o hypocrite_n be_v not_o suitable_a and_o regular_a in_o his_o strictness_n but_o the_o true_a christian_a be_v the_o hypocrite_n be_v not_o suitable_a to_o himself_o in_o his_o strictness_n for_o he_o be_v large_a conscienced_a enough_o in_o other_o matter_n and_o can_v swallow_v a_o camel_n with_o the_o same_o throat_n which_o do_v even_o keckle_n at_o a_o gnat_n if_o a_o great_a and_o more_o apparent_a fault_n be_v more_o interlard_v with_o profit_n it_o go_v down_o glib_o enough_o although_o these_o little_a lean_a morsel_n do_v stick_v in_o the_o passage_n such_o well_o oil_a fault_n though_o of_o a_o large_a quantity_n either_o he_o care_v not_o to_o see_v or_o amend_v so_o that_o you_o will_v as_o much_o wonder_n at_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o swallow_n in_o some_o thing_n especial_o where_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n plead_v the_o case_n as_o seem_v strange_a at_o the_o too_o too_o much_o straightness_n of_o it_o in_o other_o case_n and_o marvel_n either_o how_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o eagle-eyed_a as_o to_o see_v so_o small_a a_o matter_n in_o one_o kind_n or_o else_o so_o beetle-eyed_n as_o not_o to_o see_v so_o plain_a a_o thing_n in_o another_o but_o the_o upright_a heart_n be_v like_o himself_o in_o his_o strictness_n and_o equal_a and_o proportionable_a in_o his_o make_a conscience_n of_o thing_n he_o be_v more_o trouble_v in_o great_a matter_n than_o in_o lesser_a and_o his_o conscience_n will_v check_v he_o and_o order_v he_o with_o more_o or_o less_o vehemency_n and_o earnestness_n in_o thing_n according_a as_o the_o thing_n he_o do_v or_o do_v not_o be_v of_o more_o or_o less_o weight_n and_o moment_n and_o even_o as_o straight_o as_o he_o be_v in_o some_o thing_n so_o straight_o will_v he_o likewise_o show_v himself_o in_o other_o thing_n of_o the_o like_a degree_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v as_o near_o as_o i_o be_v able_a to_o gather_v it_o out_o of_o scripture_n the_o true_a and_o manifest_a difference_n betwixt_o the_o sincere_a and_o guileful_a in_o these_o particular_a grace_n yet_o still_o let_v i_o be_v bold_a to_o put_v you_o in_o remembrance_n of_o what_o i_o speak_v at_o first_o and_o that_o seasonable_o in_o this_o conclusion_n of_o the_o whole_a discourse_n viz._n that_o because_o the_o most_o upright_o mind_v be_v not_o without_o some_o plain_a admixture_n of_o guile_n therefore_o many_o of_o the_o effect_n and_o sign_n of_o guile_n will_v begin_v to_o work_v and_o show_v themselves_o in_o he_o also_o but_o so_o that_o he_o do_v observe_v lament_v resist_v and_o oppose_v the_o same_o and_o continue_v to_o control_v his_o own_o heart_n for_o they_o till_o by_o degree_n he_o have_v get_v the_o better_a of_o they_o and_o so_o he_o can_v be_v call_v a_o hypocrite_n though_o he_o have_v much_o hypocrisy_n in_o he_o contrary_o the_o hollow_a heart_a though_o he_o be_v clean_o overrun_v with_o these_o effect_n of_o falsehood_n yet_o neglect_v to_o observe_v they_o or_o be_v not_o much_o trouble_v at_o they_o when_o he_o find_v they_o and_o therefore_o he_o must_v take_v his_o name_n from_o the_o vice_n of_o hypocrisy_n because_o it_o bear_v sway_v and_o exercise_v dominion_n over_o he_o and_o thus_o now_o have_v we_o explain_v the_o point_n in_o hand_n and_o so_o make_v way_n for_o the_o use_n which_o we_o be_v to_o gather_v from_o it_o chap._n x._o comtain_v the_o first_o use_n of_o the_o point_n belong_v indifferent_o to_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n first_o then_o let_v all_o man_n learn_v hence_o not_o to_o satisfy_v themselves_o with_o be_v branch_n in_o the_o vine_n but_o consider_v serious_o whether_o they_o be_v of_o the_o good_a or_o of_o the_o bad_a branch_n see_v there_o be_v and_o always_o have_v be_v and_o ever_o will_v be_v in_o the_o church_n dissemblere_fw-la as_o well_o as_o sincere_a christian_n be_v every_o man_n out_o of_o a_o godly_a jealousy_n over_o himself_o must_v examine_v what_o himself_o be_v it_o behove_v therefore_o that_o every_o man_n out_o of_o a_o holy_a jealousy_n over_o himself_o and_o a_o godly_a fear_n those_o that_o be_v willing_a to_o sin_n bold_a also_o to_o be_v more_o outrageous_a in_o sin_v by_o his_o ill_a example_n in_o a_o word_n the_o church_n of_o god_n do_v never_o receive_v so_o great_a work_n of_o mercy_n he_o dishonour_v god_n in_o all_o the_o action_n of_o his_o life_n he_o do_v whole_o dishonour_v he_o &_o will_v for_o ever_o if_o he_o may_v be_v suffer_v continue_v to_o and_o daughter_n and_o put_v himself_o to_o never_o so_o much_o cost_v and_o charge_n all_o be_v one_o god_n will_v not_o be_v bribe_v by_o these_o gift_n to_o tolerate_v his_o wickedness_n let_v he_o speak_v the_o lord_n never_o so_o fair_a in_o word_n and_o make_v never_o so_o many_o &_o long_a prayer_n let_v he_o carry_v himself_o never_o so_o devout_o and_o religious_o and_o wear_v god_n cloth_n as_o it_o be_v and_o call_v he_o master_n and_o master_n and_o tread_v in_o his_o court_n and_o frequent_v his_o house_n still_o he_o lose_v his_o labour_n god_n will_v not_o bear_v with_o of_o their_o own_o family_n and_o will_v not_o deal_v so_o rigorous_o with_o those_o that_o use_v they_o kind_o though_o they_o sin_n but_o the_o lord_n be_v utter_o void_a of_o all_o partiality_n of_o his_o glorious_a work_n and_o not_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o his_o excellent_a attribute_n discover_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o rare_a effect_n thereof_o the_o lord_n desire_v to_o have_v we_o
be_v no_o long_o nor_o further_o then_o as_o he_o will_v impart_v with_o he_o be_v wisdom_n with_o he_o be_v power_n greatness_n and_o riches_n and_o majesty_n and_o dominion_n be_v he_o he_o be_v frequent_a appear_v before_o god_n to_o try_v our_o daily_a conversation_n in_o his_o presence_n will_v cause_v that_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o be_v under_o the_o dominion_n of_o guile_n he_o shall_v discover_v so_o much_o hypocrisy_n and_o so_o much_o hurt_v come_v to_o he_o by_o hypocrisy_n and_o so_o much_o good_a by_o the_o purge_n out_o of_o hypocrisy_n that_o by_o confess_v and_o oppose_v it_o he_o shall_v gain_v certain_a freedom_n from_o the_o tyranny_n and_o usurpation_n thereof_o lo_o brethren_n so_o many_o of_o you_o as_o have_v hitherto_o be_v servant_n to_o guile_n i_o have_v reveal_v unto_o you_o the_o mean_n of_o recover_v your_o liberty_n do_v these_o thing_n and_o though_o you_o have_v be_v to_o this_o time_n arrant_a hypocrite_n you_o shall_v be_v change_v and_o become_v upright_o only_o do_v these_o thing_n now_o for_o the_o present_a from_o this_o time_n forward_o without_o defer_v or_o delay_v without_o put_v off_o the_o lord_n until_o another_o time_n
