life_n and_o happiness_n upon_o two_o opposite_a and_o contrary_a condition_n viz._n work_n and_o faith_n perfect_a do_v and_o believe_v this_o be_v clear_a say_v he_o by_o paul_n epistle_n without_o dispute_n and_o to_o deny_v this_o which_o be_v so_o clear_a will_v but_o tend_v to_o weaken_v paul_n authority_n to_o darken_v many_o scripture_n both_o of_o moses_n and_o paul_n and_o to_o strengthen_v the_o objection_n and_o so_o proceed_v to_o make_v out_o this_o notion_n §_o 9_o reply_n but_o if_o ever_o there_o be_v a_o absurdity_n or_o plain_a contradiction_n impose_v upon_o the_o scripture_n we_o think_v we_o may_v just_o and_o true_o say_v that_o here_o it_o be_v for_o though_o it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v those_o that_o labour_n to_o fasten_v a_o absurdity_n upon_o such_o tense_n life_n and_o happiness_n upon_o two_o opposite_a and_o contrary_a condition_n for_o though_o it_o be_v true_a two_o opposite_a covenant_n may_v be_v allow_v to_o be_v purposely_o so_o dispense_v as_o to_o tender_a life_n and_o happiness_n upon_o two_o opposite_a and_o contrary_a condition_n work_n and_o faith_n yet_o it_o be_v utter_o impossible_a that_o the_o same_o covenant_n shall_v be_v so_o dispense_v for_o as_o the_o apostle_n reason_v concern_v election_n rom._n 11._o 6._o so_o it_o be_v here_o if_o by_o grace_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o of_o work_n otherwise_o grace_n be_v no_o more_o grace_n but_o if_o it_o be_v of_o work_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o grace_n otherwise_o work_n be_v no_o more_o work_n so_o that_o we_o see_v according_a to_o the_o apostle_n reckon_v it_o be_v utter_o impossible_a that_o two_o opposite_a and_o contrary_a condition_n shall_v be_v able_a to_o consist_v together_o in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o covenant_n either_o the_o sinai_n covenant_n therefore_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o it_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o work_n if_o it_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n
the_o covenant_n of_o work_n make_v at_o mount_n sinai_n and_o to_o take_v they_o for_o his_o peculiar_a people_n upon_o condition_n of_o their_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n so_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o circumcision_n i_o will_v be_v a_o god_n to_o thou_o and_o to_o thy_o seed_n and_o i_o will_v give_v to_o thou_o and_o to_o thy_o seed_n the_o land_n of_o canaan_n etc._n etc._n upon_o
