heaven_n god_n and_o they_o be_v now_o by_o christ_n more_o firm_o make_v one_o than_o ever_o they_o be_v before_o and_o again_o though_o the_o angel_n have_v never_o sin_v against_o god_n and_o so_o be_v no_o actual_a enemy_n unto_o god_n yet_o they_o be_v in_o a_o capacity_n of_o sin_v for_o they_o be_v but_o creature_n they_o can_v not_o but_o be_v frail_a in_o themselves_o and_o so_o liable_a to_o fall_v from_o god_n and_o to_o sin_n against_o he_o as_o well_o as_o those_o that_o do_v fall_v therefore_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o establishment_n which_o they_o have_v now_o through_o jesus_n christ_n because_o they_o be_v now_o confirm_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o impossibility_n of_o fall_v from_o god_n god_n have_v so_o take_v they_o to_o himself_o and_o they_o be_v so_o one_o with_o god_n that_o they_o can_v never_o fall_v from_o he_o in_o this_o regard_n also_o they_o may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v reconcile_v for_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o perfection_n of_o their_o creation_n they_o may_v have_v fall_v into_o the_o same_o condition_n that_o those_o do_v that_o be_v now_o reserve_v in_o chain_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o great_a day_n but_o now_o god_n have_v so_o reconcile_v all_o thing_n in_o heaven_n by_o jesus_n christ_n that_o the_o angel_n themselves_o be_v more_o firm_o make_v one_o with_o god_n than_o they_o be_v before_o and_o further_o the_o lord_n do_v receive_v they_o into_o a_o more_o entire_a affection_n of_o love_n in_o and_o by_o jesus_n christ_n than_o he_o do_v before_o the_o lord_n look_v upon_o the_o angel_n in_o and_o through_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o more_o through_o firm_a intimate_a entire_a affection_n of_o god_n towards_o they_o to_o establish_v they_o and_o to_o accept_v of_o they_o in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o beside_o they_o be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n or_o unto_o we_o rather_o because_o they_o be_v come_v to_o be_v our_o friend_n whereas_o at_o first_o they_o be_v our_o enemy_n so_o that_o in_o that_o regard_n there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o reconciliation_n but_o because_o i_o conceive_v the_o text_n do_v not_o so_o much_o intend_v that_o we_o shall_v let_v it_o pass_v thus_o you_o see_v how_o god_n be_v in_o christ_n reconcile_n to_o himself_o even_o in_o some_o sense_n the_o very_a angel_n themselves_o this_o then_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n the_o very_a thought_n that_o god_n have_v of_o enter_v into_o any_o term_n or_o parley_v with_o man_n about_o peace_n be_v by_o christ_n that_o the_o lord_n heart_n be_v incline_v to_o man_n it_o be_v from_o christ_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v willing_a to_o accept_v of_o any_o satisfaction_n it_o be_v through_o christ_n that_o we_o have_v a_o access_n to_o god_n any_o way_n it_o be_v through_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o from_o the_o one_o end_n of_o the_o work_n of_o reconciliation_n to_o the_o other_o but_o it_o be_v all_o through_o christ_n for_o further_o open_v of_o this_o great_a point_n there_o be_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v propound_v first_o brief_o to_o show_v you_o the_o necessity_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o in_o order_n to_o our_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o likewise_o that_o it_o can_v be_v no_o other_o way_n but_o by_o christ_n second_o how_o chirst_n come_v to_o be_v a_o fit_a reconciler_n three_o what_o it_o be_v that_o christ_n have_v engage_v himself_o to_o and_o perform_v according_a to_o his_o engagement_n for_o our_o reconciliation_n four_o how_o that_o which_o christ_n have_v do_v come_v to_o be_v make_v over_o to_o we_o and_o that_o we_o come_v to_o have_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o for_o our_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n five_o the_o consequence_n that_o flow_v from_o this_o namely_o that_o our_o reconciliation_n come_v through_o christ_n six_o the_o reason_n why_o god_n will_v be_v reconcile_v to_o we_o through_o his_o son_n rather_o than_o any_o other_o way_n and_o last_o to_o make_v some_o application_n of_o al._n these_o particular_n may_v hold_v we_o some_o time_n but_o because_o we_o often_o meet_v with_o much_o of_o this_o doctrine_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o have_v divers_a time_n before_o and_o be_v likely_a if_o god_n lengthen_v out_o opportunity_n still_o to_o do_v it_o therefore_o i_o intend_v to_o present_v all_o these_o seven_o particular_n before_o you_o in_o a_o very_a short_a view_n chap._n 13._o the_o necessity_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o for_o our_o reconciliation_n for_o the_o first_o the_o necessity_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o for_o our_o reconciliation_n and_o sure_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v in_o culcate_v and_o beat_v upon_o you_o again_o &_o again_o for_o you_o neither_o know_v god_n nor_o christ_n nor_o your_o own_o estate_n except_o you_o know_v the_o necessity_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o to_o undertake_v in_o the_o work_n of_o reconciliation_n i_o suppose_v if_o we_o shall_v ask_v any_o of_o you_o how_o you_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v you_o will_v present_o answer_v by_o jesus_n christ_n but_o the_o understanding_n of_o the_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o there_o be_v of_o christ_n come_v in_o to_o reconcile_v we_o and_o god_n together_o be_v not_o so_o ordinary_a therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o serious_o weigh_v it_o the_o necessity_n of_o it_o in_o a_o word_n be_v this_o there_o be_v such_o a_o distance_n make_v between_o god_n and_o his_o creature_n through_o sin_n as_o do_v put_v a_o necessity_n upon_o a_o mediator_n to_o come_v between_o the_o distance_n be_v so_o great_a for_o god_n be_v the_o infinite_a first_o being_n and_o we_o be_v his_o creature_n the_o distance_n must_v
to_o be_v make_v over_o to_o one_o before_o he_o be_v bear_v sometime_o between_o man_n and_o man_n there_o be_v something_o make_v over_o thus_o to_o our_o heir_n lawful_o beget_v though_o there_o be_v none_o bear_v yet_o it_o be_v give_v they_o and_o there_o be_v solemnity_n in_o law_n concern_v it_o perhaps_o it_o be_v give_v to_o some_o as_o a_o feofee_n that_o if_o such_o and_o such_o shall_v be_v bear_v they_o shall_v enjoy_v it_o or_o that_o they_o shall_v employ_v this_o for_o the_o benefit_n of_o such_o and_o such_o that_o shall_v be_v bear_v so_o jesus_n christ_n stand_v before_o the_o father_n as_o we_o may_v so_o term_v it_o as_o a_o feofee_n in_o trust_n as_o the_o head_n of_o a_o covenant_n and_o there_o be_v transaction_n between_o the_o father_n and_o he_o there_o be_v not_o only_o a_o purpose_n in_o god_n to_o reconcile_v himself_o to_o we_o but_o there_o be_v grace_n give_v to_o we_o in_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o actual_a donation_n of_o this_o unto_o christ_n before_o the_o world_n begin_v that_o so_o we_o may_v come_v to_o enjoy_v it_o again_o another_o scripture_n for_o this_o be_v the_o 1._o cor._n 2.7_o which_o speak_v somewhat_o of_o this_o also_o though_o not_o altogether_o so_o full_o as_o the_o former_a the_o word_n be_v these_o but_o we_o speak_v the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o a_o mystery_n even_o the_o hide_a wisdom_n which_o god_n ordain_v before_o the_o world_n to_o our_o glory_n he_o do_v not_o only_o speak_v here_o of_o god_n elect_v of_o god_n ordain_v we_o to_o glory_n but_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o whole_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o he_o call_v the_o hiden_n wisdom_n of_o god_n now_o this_o doctrine_n of_o reconciliation_n which_o i_o have_v be_v preach_v to_o you_o about_o that_o we_o be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n in_o christ_n this_o be_v the_o hiden_n wisdom_n of_o god_n which_o be_v keep_v hide_v from_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o ordain_v before_o the_o world_n to_o our_o glory_n god_n have_v contrive_v all_o this_o doctrine_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o purpose_v that_o in_o time_n it_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v reveal_v to_o we_o as_o it_o be_v at_o this_o day_n there_o be_v yet_o another_o scripture_n for_o this_o which_o be_v very_o remarkable_a it_o be_v in_o the_o 17._o john_n you_o shall_v find_v in_o that_o chapter_n many_o expression_n to_o that_o purpose_n that_o those_o that_o do_v believe_v in_o christ_n be_v such_o as_o god_n the_o father_n have_v give_v he_o and_o you_o may_v find_v by_o divers_a expression_n there_o apparent_o that_o there_o be_v a_o agreement_n a_o transaction_n between_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n long_o before_o the_o thing_n be_v do_v verse_n 16._o i_o have_v manifest_v my_o name_n to_o the_o man_n thou_o give_v i_o crucify_v satisfy_v the_o law_n for_o all_o that_o shall_v believe_v in_o he_o yet_o there_o be_v require_v a_o pronounce_v of_o the_o sentence_n by_o the_o judge_n for_o the_o acquit_v of_o which_o be_v our_o justification_n and_o yet_o sometime_o we_o know_v that_o after_o the_o sentence_n be_v pronounce_v by_o the_o judge_n the_o malefactor_n may_v lie_v in_o prison_n till_o the_o fee_n be_v pay_v just_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o we_o after_o our_o justification_n yet_o we_o remain_v in_o this_o world_n and_o have_v the_o fetter_n of_o our_o corruption_n upon_o we_o have_v the_o fetter_n of_o affliction_n and_o trouble_n upon_o we_o till_o we_o have_v pay_v the_o due_n to_o nature_n and_o the_o dispensation_n of_o god_n providence_n one_o that_o be_v elect_a and_o not_o a_o believer_n he_o be_v as_o a_o prisoner_n that_o have_v the_o law_n satisfy_v for_o he_o though_o he_o do_v not_o know_v it_o yet_o certain_o he_o shall_v be_v save_v one_o that_o be_v elect_a and_o a_o believer_n be_v as_o a_o prisoner_n that_o have_v the_o judge_n pronounce_v the_o sentence_n of_o absolution_n upon_o he_o yet_o afterward_o so_o long_o as_o the_o believer_n be_v in_o this_o world_n he_o be_v like_o a_o prisoner_n that_o have_v have_v his_o sentence_n pronounce_v upon_o he_o to_o acquit_v he_o but_o he_o lie_v in_o prison_n till_o he_o have_v pay_v his_o fee_n but_o those_o in_o heaven_n they_o have_v not_o only_o the_o law_n satisfy_v and_o the_o fee_n pay_v but_o they_o be_v set_v at_o liberty_n also_o and_o be_v in_o their_o father_n house_n there_o be_v several_a time_n therefore_o of_o god_n manifestation_n of_o our_o reconciliation_n to_o we_o not_o impute_v our_o sin_n unto_o we_o but_o though_o there_o be_v such_o several_a working_n of_o god_n yet_o this_o do_v not_o argue_v any_o change_n in_o god_n which_o be_v a_o objection_n that_o many_o through_o weakness_n make_v that_o because_o god_n do_v this_o thing_n and_o the_o other_o thing_n &_o the_o other_o will_v be_v clear_a in_o esay_n 49_o 8._o this_o be_v quote_v in_o cor._n 2.6.2_o now_o what_o be_v that_o that_o be_v when_o paul_n be_v preach_v to_o they_o and_o he_o make_v this_o the_o fulfil_n of_o that_o prophecy_n in_o esay_n 49._o now_o it_o be_v clear_a that_o that_o prophecy_n be_v a_o prophecy_n of_o christ_n pray_v to_o god_n the_o father_n for_o those_o that_o do_v belong_v to_o call_v in_o scripture_n angel_n of_o the_o church_n for_o indeed_o their_o work_n be_v evangelical_n and_o when_o he_o speak_v of_o they_o in_o 1_o cor._n 4.1_o therefore_o let_v a_o man_n account_n of_o we_o as_o of_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n and_o steward_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n brother_n we_o can_v be_v willing_a that_o for_o our_o person_n they_o shall_v be_v never_o so_o further_o by_o the_o church_n then_o special_o at_o their_o church_n meeting_n when_o they_o be_v together_o and_o when_o there_o be_v the_o dispensation_n of_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n among_o the_o saint_n then_o when_o the_o church_n be_v in_o their_o exercise_n of_o the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o church_n then_o they_o come_v to_o know_v the_o manifold_a wisdom_n of_o god_n howsoever_o some_o think_v it_o be_v foolishness_n yet_o god_n say_v it_o be_v a_o manifold_a wisdom_n of_o god_n and_o the_o angel_n think_v so_o too_o certain_o there_o be_v no_o place_n so_o full_a of_o sinner_n as_o of_o angel_n hear_v therefore_o you_o may_v well_o come_v to_o hear_v for_o the_o angel_n they_o come_v to_o hear_v and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v to_o woman_n that_o well_o be_v call_v wooden_a in_o respect_n of_o their_o open_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o salvation_n to_o the_o people_n it_o be_v not_o now_o so_o much_o for_o to_o preach_v morality_n these_o be_v good_a thing_n to_o be_v preach_v on_o but_o where_o be_v the_o great_a point_n of_o reconciliation_n the_o great_a point_n that_o all_o minister_n ought_v to_o aim_v at_o be_v the_o great_a point_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o that_o be_v to_o be_v preach_v and_o it_o be_v their_o commission_n to_o preach_v that_o especial_o oh_o how_o be_v it_o to_o be_v receive_v to_o be_v accept_v to_o we_o be_v commit_v the_o ministry_n of_o reconciliation_n what_o be_v it_o it_o be_v such_o a_o ministry_n of_o no_o less_o consequence_n than_o your_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n oh_o how_o glad_o shall_v you_o take_v in_o this_o ministry_n for_o they_o come_v about_o a_o work_n that_o be_v worthy_a of_o all_o acception_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v tim._n 1.1.15_o this_o be_v a_o faithful_a say_n and_o worthy_a of_o all_o acceptation_n
common_a wealth_n look_v what_o right_o you_o have_v to_o your_o house_n land_n and_o estate_n you_o have_v the_o same_o right_n to_o your_o practice_n of_o religion_n this_o be_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n towards_o england_n rather_o than_o to_o other_o country_n now_o we_o take_v up_o arm_n to_o defend_v our_o civil_a right_n and_o let_v it_o be_v in_o what_o it_o will_v be_v either_o to_o our_o not_o say_v to_o be_v a_o ambassador_n but_o one_o that_o come_v from_o a_o prince_n or_o state_n from_o other_o country_n he_o be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o ambassador_n so_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n he_o be_v not_o send_v to_o deal_v between_o man_n and_o man_n but_o between_o god_n and_o man_n in_o matter_n that_o concern_v the_o great_a god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o send_v from_o he_o though_o design_v to_o it_o by_o man_n yet_o their_o calling_n depend_v upon_o god_n upon_o christ_n only_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n when_o prince_n and_o state_n send_v their_o ambassador_n they_o send_v they_o to_o other_o prince_n and_o to_o other_o state_n but_o now_o god_n send_v ambassador_n to_o poor_a wretched_a sinful_a man_n and_o herein_o he_o do_v honour_n man_n that_o he_o will_v send_v a_o messenger_n from_o himself_o to_o they_o to_o be_v a_o ambassador_n when_o a_o prince_n do_v send_v a_o messenger_n to_o a_o person_n you_o do_v not_o say_v that_o the_o prince_n do_v send_v a_o ambassador_n to_o they_o that_o be_v in_o prison_n that_o he_o may_v execute_v when_o he_o please_v rather_o a_o executioner_n than_o a_o ambassador_n so_o we_o may_v all_o have_v expect_v rather_o that_o there_o shall_v a_o executioner_n have_v be_v send_v but_o god_n be_v please_v for_o his_o elect_a one_o to_o send_v a_o ambassador_n and_o beside_o ambassador_n be_v not_o send_v about_o every_o trivial_a business_n but_o when_o a_o ambassador_n be_v send_v it_o be_v about_o a_o public_a business_n a_o state_n business_n of_o some_o great_a consequence_n so_o when_o you_o hear_v that_o god_n send_v his_o ambassador_n to_o the_o world_n you_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v about_o a_o great_a and_o a_o weighty_a business_n about_o a_o state_n business_n it_o be_v about_o that_o that_o do_v concern_v the_o very_a state_n of_o heaven_n the_o god_n of_o heaven_n it_o be_v that_o that_o concern_v god_n himself_o more_o near_o than_o any_o thing_n in_o â—â—â—s_n world_n concern_v he_o it_o concern_v god_n next_o unto_o his_o own_o be_v and_o unto_o his_o son_n the_o near_a of_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v without_o that_o belong_v to_o a_o god_n which_o they_o receive_v from_o jesus_n christ_n four_o when_o he_o go_v to_o any_o place_n he_o do_v represent_v the_o person_n of_o the_o king_n himself_o from_o who_o he_o come_v and_o what_o wrong_n be_v do_v to_o he_o be_v do_v to_o the_o king_n person_n let_v the_o ambassador_n be_v never_o so_o mean_a so_o all_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o come_v to_o you_o in_o the_o

jesus_n christ_n speak_v unto_o they_o i_o will_v only_o conclude_v with_o this_o one_o thing_n that_o till_o you_o do_v come_v to_o apprehend_v this_o it_o be_v not_o like_a that_o ever_o any_o and_o again_o to_o a_o sermon_n but_o have_v look_v no_o further_o than_o ely_n to_o the_o minister_n but_o when_o you_o have_v come_v to_o the_o word_n with_o the_o disposition_n and_o say_v lord_n speak_v for_o thy_o servant_n hear_v lord_n reveal_v what_o thou_o will_v i_o see_v it_o be_v thou_o one_o ordinance_n and_o the_o minister_n though_o he_o be_v but_o a_o poor_a weak_a man_n yet_o he_o come_v and_o stand_v in_o thy_o stead_n and_o speak_v in_o thy_o name_n and_o i_o say_v when_o you_o come_v thus_o you_o shall_v find_v more_o in_o one_o sermon_n let_v out_o to_o you_o then_o it_o that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o power_n of_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n that_o it_o coâ—ld_v not_o be_v but_o only_o by_o the_o speak_n of_o god_n god_n and_o christ_n in_o it_o the_o which_o have_v power_n to_o inlighten_v to_o awaken_v conscience_n to_o terrify_v the_o conscience_n to_o humble_a to_o bring_v down_o the_o stout_a proud_a heart_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o and_o to_o convert_v soul_n in_o john_n 5.25_o the_o text_n say_v of_o the_o word_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o bring_v life_n very_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o the_o hour_n be_v come_v and_o now_o for_o nothing_o that_o be_v humane_a can_v be_v the_o bottom_n and_o ground_n of_o any_o one_o faith_n it_o be_v not_o what_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o such_o a_o man_n though_o he_o be_v never_o so_o learned_a never_o so_o holy_a a_o man_n that_o can_v bottom_n or_o ground_n my_o faith_n but_o when_o i_o come_v to_o hear_v he_o so_o as_o i_o can_v hear_v god_n and_o christ_n speak_v in_o he_o hear_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o ground_v and_o bottom_v in_o the_o truth_n because_o they_o hear_v man_n only_o and_o do_v not_o hear_v god_n but_o when_o people_n can_v say_v as_o those_o man_n that_o come_v forth_o from_o samaria_n to_o the_o woman_n in_o john_n 4._o about_o the_o middle_n of_o the_o chap._n say_v that_o when_o the_o woman_n come_v and_o tell_v they_o here_o be_v a_o he_o now_o we_o do_v believe_v not_o because_o thou_o have_v tell_v we_o but_o because_o we_o have_v hear_v he_o ourselves_o so_o may_v many_o a_o soul_n say_v i_o have_v be_v often_o hear_v of_o sermon_n and_o i_o have_v be_v take_v with_o the_o preach_n of_o such_o a_o man_n and_o i_o do_v believe_v what_o he_o say_v and_o it_o go_v into_o my_o heart_n in_o some_o measure_n oh_o but_o now_o say_v a_o soul_n i_o do_v not_o believe_v because_o he_o tell_v i_o this_o but_o i_o have_v hear_v in_o his_o preach_n god_n and_o christ_n himself_o it_o have_v not_o be_v he_o but_o it_o have_v be_v jesus_n christ_n that_o have_v speak_v to_o my_o heart_n there_o can_v be_v no_o ground_v of_o our_o faith_n except_o that_o which_o be_v deliver_v in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n be_v look_v upon_o as_o god_n and_o christ_n speak_v in_o they_o object_n you_o will_v say_v must_v we_o bleeve_v every_o thing_n that_o the_o preacher_n speak_v as_o if_o god_n and_o christ_n speak_v it_o man_n may_v err_v therefore_o you_o must_v compare_v what_o you_o hear_v with_o what_o you_o read_v and_o as_o those_o noble_a man_n of_o berea_n do_v search_v the_o scripture_n to_o see_v what_o paul_n himself_o preach_v they_o be_v not_o to_o take_v paul_n preach_v but_o to_o compare_v it_o with_o other_o scripture_n and_o they_o be_v commend_v for_o it_o and_o god_n forbid_v that_o we_o shall_v think_v it_o much_o that_o people_n shall_v examine_v any_o thing_n we_o speak_v try_v all_o thing_n and_o then_o keep_v that_o which_o be_v good_a search_v the_o scripture_n and_o compare_v what_o be_v deliver_v by_o scripture_n and_o then_o so_o far_o as_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o scripture_n that_o be_v speak_v though_o it_o be_v not_o direct_o the_o word_n of_o the_o scripture_n yet_o when_o it_o be_v speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n according_a to_o scripture_n it_o shall_v be_v receive_v as_o if_o god_n and_o christ_n speak_v it_o we_o challenge_v no_o such_o infallibility_n as_o the_o papist_n say_v the_o pope_n have_v but_o we_o give_v unto_o all_o people_n liberty_n to_o examine_v our_o doctrine_n by_o scripture_n and_o then_o god_n expect_v and_o christ_n expect_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v receive_v as_o if_o god_n and_o christ_n speak_v chap._n 59_o use_v 1_o answer_v the_o objection_n of_o the_o arminian_o and_o the_o wanton_n of_o that_o there_o be_v no_o life_n at_o all_o in_o man_n to_o do_v any_o good_a why_o do_v you_o speak_v to_o they_o this_o point_n answer_v that_o objection_n though_o it_o be_v a_o truth_n that_o all_o man_n natural_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o be_v before_o the_o lord_n as_o a_o dead_a carrion_n there_o be_v no_o dead_a carrion_n more_o loathsome_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o we_o than_o every_o the_o word_n of_o man_n that_o breathe_v forth_o life_n and_o again_o it_o be_v a_o answer_n to_o the_o objection_n of_o our_o late_a wanton_n they_o cry_v out_o against_o minister_n call_v to_o man_n for_o duty_n and_o account_v they_o duty-monger_n say_v they_o what_o do_v you_o call_v to_o man_n to_o do_v you_o tell_v they_o that_o they_o must_v do_v thus_o and_o thus_o and_o they_o must_v perform_v duty_n and_o humble_v themselves_o they_o think_v they_o have_v get_v a_o great_a objection_n in_o this_o that_o because_o man_n have_v no_o power_n natural_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o vain_a thing_n to_o call_v upon_o they_o to_o perform_v duty_n this_o answer_n they_o we_o call_v upon_o they_o so_o as_o the_o voice_n of_o christ_n though_o they_o have_v no_o power_n themselves_o yet_o we_o call_v
upon_o they_o to_o set_v upon_o such_o duty_n we_o call_v upon_o they_o to_o believe_v and_o to_o repent_v they_o say_v it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o call_v upon_o they_o to_o believe_v and_o repent_v but_o that_o way_n that_o god_n have_v to_o work_v faith_n &_o repentance_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n it_o be_v to_o convey_v a_o power_n through_o his_o own_o voice_n in_o the_o ministry_n of_o his_o word_n and_o therefore_o we_o speak_v to_o they_o to_o believe_v &_o repent_v as_o if_o they_o have_v power_n because_o we_o know_v that_o those_o which_o belong_v unto_o god_n election_n the_o lord_n will_v convey_v power_n to_o they_o through_o this_o word_n of_o he_o it_o be_v not_o our_o voice_n but_o it_o be_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n we_o will_v have_v you_o to_o carry_v this_o meditation_n along_o with_o you_o at_o any_o time_n when_o we_o speak_v unto_o you_o and_o exhort_v you_o that_o you_o will_v come_v in_o &_o repent_v and_o believe_v carry_v this_o meditation_n with_o you_o and_o then_o you_o shall_v understand_v we_o aright_o we_o will_v not_o have_v you_o to_o think_v that_o we_o conceive_v you_o have_v power_n to_o believe_v and_o repent_v because_o we_o call_v upon_o you_o but_o this_o we_o expect_v that_o while_o we_o be_v speak_v to_o you_o that_o god_n &_o christ_n will_v speak_v to_o your_o heart_n so_o that_o there_o will_v be_v power_n convey_v through_o that_o word_n of_o we_o and_o though_o it_o be_v not_o convey_v this_o sermon_n yet_o it_o may_v be_v the_o next_o or_o the_o next_o and_o hope_v in_o the_o end_n that_o will_v give_v repentance_n unto_o life_n chap._n 51._o use_v 2._o minister_n ought_v to_o speak_v as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n the_o manner_n of_o their_o preach_n open_v the_o next_o use_n that_o arise_v from_o hence_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n peter_n make_v in_o 1_o pet._n 4.11_o if_o any_o man_n speak_v let_v he_o speak_v as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n mark_v it_o here_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n now_o therefore_o if_o this_o be_v so_o that_o the_o word_n that_o be_v speak_v according_a to_o the_o rule_n be_v the_o oracle_n of_o god_n then_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o all_o that_o do_v speak_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o speak_v it_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o it_o may_v appear_v to_o be_v the_o oracle_n of_o god_n i_o have_v not_o now_o to_o speak_v to_o many_o minister_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o enlarge_v myself_o in_o this_o as_o i_o shall_v have_v do_v oh_o with_o what_o a_o reverence_n shall_v minister_n speak_v for_o they_o come_v to_o speak_v as_o in_o christ_n stead_n and_o therefore_o they_o shall_v speak_v in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o become_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n and_o not_o think_v to_o speak_v according_a to_o their_o own_o fancy_n and_o their_o own_o humour_n and_o in_o their_o own_o way_n but_o to_o speak_v as_o those_o that_o be_v send_v in_o god_n place_n to_o speak_v to_o the_o people_n as_o if_o christ_n be_v speak_v to_o they_o and_o therefore_o to_o consider_v they_o be_v in_o the_o place_n of_o christ_n so_o to_o speak_v with_o all_o authority_n as_o from_o christ_n as_o in_o math._n 7._o verse_n the_o last_o it_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n that_o he_o teach_v they_o as_o one_o have_v authority_n and_o not_o as_o the_o scribe_n for_o a_o minister_n of_o god_n he_o be_v to_o preach_v in_o christ_n stead_n for_o so_o the_o apostle_n say_v therefore_o he_o be_v to_o labour_v what_o he_o can_v to_o express_v the_o very_a authority_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o his_o ministry_n and_o there_o be_v a_o ministry_n that_o do_v carry_v authority_n with_o it_o in_o the_o very_a conscience_n of_o man_n i_o have_v know_v of_o some_o that_o have_v come_v proud_o into_o a_o congregation_n to_o scorn_v at_o the_o word_n profane_a russian_n that_o have_v come_v on_o purpose_n to_o outface_v the_o ministry_n and_o to_o out_o face_n the_o word_n and_o yet_o they_o have_v meet_v with_o that_o authority_n in_o the_o word_n that_o their_o heart_n have_v be_v daunt_v and_o they_o have_v fall_v under_o the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n and_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n in_o the_o manner_n and_o way_n of_o preach_v the_o word_n some_o have_v authority_n and_o other_o have_v no_o authority_n at_o all_o in_o it_o that_o kind_n of_o preach_v that_o be_v to_o please_v the_o humour_n of_o man_n you_o shall_v have_v some_o kind_n of_o preacher_n to_o dandle_v man_n fancy_n as_o it_o be_v that_o have_v some_o fine_a quaint_a word_n that_o there_o sentence_n shall_v be_v very_o smooth_a and_o as_o they_o say_v come_v off_o brave_o and_o this_o be_v a_o dainty_a preacher_n and_o he_o shall_v have_v many_o fine_a latin_a sentence_n and_o witty_a speech_n and_o come_v into_o a_o pulpit_n and_o act_n as_o if_o he_o be_v to_o act_v a_o part_n upon_o the_o stage_n these_o be_v the_o fine_a quaint_a preacher_n the_o court_n preacher_n as_o they_o call_v they_o but_o this_o be_v not_o to_o preach_v as_o in_o christ_n stead_n it_o be_v very_o like_a that_o this_o be_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharise_n but_o when_o christ_n come_v to_o speak_v he_o speak_v as_o one_o that_o god_n have_v authority_n and_o not_o as_o the_o scribe_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o his_o preach_n and_o that_o of_o the_o scribe_n he_o come_v with_o the_o authority_n of_o god_n he_o come_v to_o preach_v to_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n and_o not_o to_o the_o fancy_n of_o man_n and_o the_o difference_n as_o there_o be_v in_o he_o so_o there_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n and_o degree_n now_o there_o be_v some_o that_o preach_v to_o this_o very_a day_n just_a as_o the_o scribe_n but_o there_o be_v other_o that_o preach_v as_o christ_n do_v that_o preach_v to_o the_o conscience_n and_o to_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n and_o their_o word_n do_v stick_v in_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n though_o they_o fret_v and_o vex_v and_o go_v away_o in_o a_o rage_n yet_o there_o be_v somewhat_o that_o stick_n to_o their_o conscience_n so_o that_o they_o be_v either_o force_v to_o yield_v to_o it_o or_o fly_v from_o it_o and_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o many_o a_o man_n will_v cry_v out_o and_o say_v i_o will_v never_o hear_v such_o a_o minister_n why_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n his_o corrupt_a heart_n can_v bear_v that_o minister_n preach_v the_o word_n come_v with_o power_n to_o his_o heart_n and_o his_o guilty_a conscience_n can_v bear_v it_o now_o watch_v but_o whether_o there_o be_v not_o some_o vile_a guiltiness_n in_o their_o spirit_n that_o say_v of_o such_o man_n they_o will_v never_o hear_v they_o any_o more_o because_o their_o corrupt_a heart_n can_v bear_v the_o authority_n of_o the_o word_n that_o preach_v that_o be_v as_o if_o god_n and_o christ_n speak_v it_o be_v with_o authority_n and_o not_o with_o fine_a quaint_a word_n to_o this_o purpose_n you_o have_v a_o expression_n in_o 1_o cor._n 1.17_o for_o christ_n send_v i_o he_o be_v to_o go_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n not_o with_o wisdom_n of_o man_n christ_n do_v never_o send_v i_o to_o preach_v with_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n what_o a_o text_n be_v here_o how_o will_v many_o man_n be_v able_a to_o answer_v this_o one_o text_n that_o make_v it_o their_o great_a study_n to_o get_v wisdom_n of_o word_n but_o mark_v the_o danger_n of_o this_o lest_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n be_v make_v of_o no_o effect_n there_o be_v a_o most_o hideous_a wickedness_n in_o this_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v regard_v more_o to_o be_v commend_v for_o a_o fine_a witty_a neat_a smooth_a preacher_n than_o he_o shall_v have_v regard_n to_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n to_o take_v effect_n to_o have_v christ_n to_o be_v honour_v we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o such_o preach_v scarce_o ever_o stir_v the_o soul_n seldom_o or_o never_o work_v upon_o the_o heart_n it_o be_v a_o speech_n that_o once_o even_o a_o prelate_n that_o be_v not_o the_o best_a but_o one_o ill_a enough_o and_o know_v to_o many_o i_o suppose_v here_o i_o hear_v it_o messenger_n to_o such_o a_o one_o to_o offer_v peace_n and_o he_o think_v beforehand_o oh_o but_o he_o will_v have_v this_o and_o this_o objection_n against_o i_o but_o say_v he_o to_o his_o servant_n that_o be_v employ_v in_o the_o business_n you_o shall_v answer_v this_o objection_n thus_o and_o the_o other_o objection_n thus_o chap._n 73._o the_o thirteen_o argument_n manifest_v the_o exceed_a willingness_n of_o god_n to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o sinner_n another_o evidence_n of_o god_n willingness_n to_o be_v reconcile_v be_v this_o that_o god_n be_v so_o importunate_a with_o sinner_n he_o
