fundamentals_n of_o our_o religion_n as_o in_o truth_n they_o be_v not_o that_o be_v to_o say_v both_o party_n if_o honest_a and_o true_a hearted_a in_o the_o fundamentals_n may_v be_v save_v without_o they_o if_o they_o can_v hold_v and_o continue_v so_o to_o the_o end_n of_o their_o day_n and_o their_o seed_n also_o successive_o but_o those_o thing_n we_o differ_v in_o be_v such_o as_o be_v to_o maintain_v and_o preserve_v we_o in_o those_o fundamentals_n chief_o and_o without_o which_o we_o can_v long_o stand_v upon_o they_o but_o shall_v fall_v off_o and_o these_o point_n do_v chief_o concern_v the_o government_n of_o the_o church_n and_o divers_a particular_n in_o the_o demeanour_n or_o manner_n in_o the_o same_o name_v as_o also_o who_o ought_v to_o be_v account_v worthy_a to_o be_v esteem_v a_o member_n of_o the_o church_n and_o according_o receive_v to_o be_v of_o the_o company_n and_o partaker_n of_o the_o ordinance_n belong_v to_o the_o church_n therefore_o i_o will_v name_v so_o many_o point_n as_o i_o have_v hear_v difference_v between_o those_o that_o be_v for_o the_o presbyterial_a government_n or_o near_a it_o and_o their_o opposite_n and_o that_o successive_o too_o as_o i_o shall_v afterward_o show_v in_o the_o point_n for_o the_o ordination_n of_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o for_o this_o i_o will_v be_v brief_a thus_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v the_o teacher_n teacher_n that_o be_v best_a able_a and_o true_a christian_n according_a to_o the_o former_a rule_n in_o the_o former_a point_n that_o be_v those_o that_o be_v most_o know_v and_o obedient_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n so_o know_v according_a to_o the_o rule_n which_o god_n have_v give_v we_o to_o judge_v by_o and_o of_o those_o two_o property_n neither_o aught_o to_o be_v want_v but_o if_o a_o man_n have_v in_o some_o good_a measure_n the_o latter_a and_o have_v not_o the_o former_a viz._n knowledge_n he_o than_o can_v give_v strong_a meat_n to_o any_o error_n and_o if_o such_o a_o one_o be_v a_o teacher_n we_o shall_v have_v but_o babe_n at_o the_o best_a yet_o which_o be_v worst_a he_o will_v for_o the_o more_o part_n be_v meddle_v with_o the_o matter_n too_o high_a above_o his_o reach_n and_o so_o lead_v those_o who_o he_o teach_v to_o error_n and_o heresy_n as_o we_o have_v too_o much_o experience_n of_o at_o this_o time_n but_o some_o may_v demand_v how_o if_o the_o preacher_n have_v knowledge_n in_o a_o competent_a degree_n and_o too_o little_a honesty_n he_o will_v do_v much_o hurt_v that_o way_n by_o his_o ill-example_n for_o man_n live_v more_o by_o example_n then_o by_o precept_n then_o for_o the_o more_o part_n if_o they_o be_v very_o ignorant_a especial_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v thus_o brief_o be_v it_o not_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o we_o shall_v have_v neither_o knowledge_n nor_o honesty_n neither_o the_o preacher_n nor_o hearer_n therefore_o we_o be_v to_o look_v to_o god_n in_o this_o point_n more_o especial_o for_o if_o those_o that_o be_v the_o people_n to_o be_v teach_v do_v frame_v their_o life_n according_a to_o that_o little_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n that_o god_n do_v give_v they_o in_o faith_n and_o obedience_n in_o christ_n 6._o he_o then_o will_v provide_v such_o as_o shall_v be_v both_o able_a and_o honest_a too_o to_o be_v their_o guide_n and_o example_n also_o however_o we_o may_v not_o choose_v a_o novice_n 2_o tim._n 3._o 6._o for_o we_o must_v take_v it_o as_o a_o curse_n of_o our_o god_n to_o we_o preacher_n when_o we_o want_v such_o as_o shall_v be_v able_a and_o honest_a too_o the_o scripture_n of_o god_n do_v testify_v thus_o much_o and_o thus_o i_o prove_v it_o when_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n do_v perverse_o sin_n against_o their_o god_n after_o long_a instruction_n and_o mean_n of_o their_o edification_n in_o the_o will_n and_o word_n of_o god_n than_o he_o do_v threaten_v they_o and_o say_v thus_o by_o man_n of_o other_o tongue_n and_o stammer_a lip_n will_v i_o speak_v to_o this_o people_n etc._n etc._n as_o in_o esa._n 28._o 11._o and_o in_o ezek._n 3._o 26._o it_o be_v say_v thus_o i_o say_v god_n will_v make_v evil_a example_n for_o they_o see_v this_o in_o mich._n 2._o 11._o these_o be_v the_o word_n if_o a_o man_n walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o falsehood_n do_v lie_v say_v i_o will_v prophesy_v of_o wine_n and_o strong_a drink_n even_o he_o shall_v be_v the_o prophet_n of_o this_o people_n and_o in_o another_o place_n it_o be_v say_v there_o shall_v be_v like_o people_n like_o priest_n and_o so_o much_o for_o to_o prove_v that_o because_o of_o the_o people_n disobedience_n when_o they_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n teach_v they_o true_o they_o shall_v have_v evil_a teacher_n as_o a_o curse_n to_o they_o in_o the_o stead_n of_o good_a and_o fit_a guide_n and_o now_o that_o god_n will_v give_v better_a teacher_n of_o his_o people_n when_o they_o walk_v obedient_o to_o he_o according_a to_o his_o

better_o inform_v for_o these_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n at_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o it_o all_o may_v know_v that_o these_o thing_n whereof_o they_o be_v inform_v concerning_o thou_o null_a the_o moral_a law_n by_o his_o preach_n of_o faith_n nor_o yet_o by_o his_o believe_v it_o therefore_o o_o you_o antinomian_n detest_v your_o curse_a tenet_n for_o the_o best_a of_o we_o do_v see_v our_o sin_n but_o dim_o in_o ourselves_o and_o although_o the_o more_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v the_o more_o he_o can_v discern_v the_o remnant_n of_o his_o sin_n in_o he_o yet_o he_o can_v see_v they_o all_o and_o you_o know_v the_o less_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v the_o dark_a he_o be_v in_o his_o judgement_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n to_o speak_v plain_o thus_o we_o have_v all_o even_o the_o best_a of_o we_o need_v of_o a_o guide_n for_o god_n have_v ordain_v outward_a mean_n as_o well_o as_o inward_a for_o the_o edify_n of_o his_o saint_n and_o if_o we_o retain_v the_o law_n for_o a_o lookingglass_n to_o show_v we_o our_o deformity_n and_o not_o to_o be_v justify_v by_o it_o what_o hurt_v then_o be_v there_o in_o the_o retain_v it_o it_o be_v to_o we_o not_o a_o curse_n but_o a_o blessing_n but_o if_o we_o reject_v it_o and_o cast_v it_o off_o from_o use_v it_o i_o be_o sure_a we_o shall_v thereby_o procure_v not_o a_o blessing_n but_o a_o curse_n therefore_o beware_v lest_o you_o have_v unaware_o admit_v of_o some_o jesuitical_a spirit_n i_o will_v note_v one_o thing_n more_o out_o of_o that_o in_o mat._n 5._o 17._o viz._n that_o our_o saviour_n join_v the_o law_n and_o the_o prophet_n together_o and_o say_v that_o he_o be_v not_o come_v to_o destroy_v the_o law_n or_o the_o prophet_n why_o will_v you_o understand_v one_o of_o they_o in_o the_o spiritual_a sense_n only_o and_o the_o other_o in_o the_o literal_a only_o for_o i_o hope_v you_o will_v all_o conclude_v that_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o prophet_n in_o the_o literal_a sense_n that_o their_o prophecy_n that_o be_v write_v shall_v last_v no_o long_o than_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o law_n also_o that_o be_v write_v that_o our_o saviour_n mean_v and_o not_o the_o law_n write_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n and_o i_o hope_v that_o in_o 1_o cor._n 9_o 21._o and_o also_o that_o in_o rom._n 7._o and_o 22._o will_v full_o satisfy_v any_o honest_a man_n that_o be_v capable_a of_o babe_n meat_n but_o i_o fear_v they_o hold_v another_o dangerous_a tenet_n which_o this_o latter_a curse_a tenet_n do_v produce_v angry_a viz._n god_n be_v not_o angry_a with_o his_o child_n though_o they_o act_v or_o commit_v such_o action_n or_o deed_n which_o god_n by_o his_o moral_a law_n have_v forbid_v as_o adultery_n or_o fornication_n or_o objection_n answer_v and_o i_o have_v conclude_v that_o those_o that_o be_v best_a able_a aught_o to_o be_v the_o public_a preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o the_o people_n but_o now_o follow_v in_o good_a order_n another_o point_n gospel_n and_o this_o be_v a_o special_a one_o too_o and_o this_o point_n the_o independent_a party_n for_o some_o congregation_n at_o least_o and_o almost_o all_o sectary_n be_v against_o i_o in_o only_o the_o presbyterial_n be_v on_o my_o side_n and_o this_o point_n be_v concerning_o the_o prove_v allow_v and_o ordain_v these_o preacher_n for_o the_o work_n of_o this_o great_a ministration_n i_o shall_v for_o this_o pitch_n upon_o scripture_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o after_o that_o confirm_v the_o point_n by_o reason_n and_o my_o reason_n will_v be_v strong_a i_o be_o sure_a this_o question_n be_v who_o ought_v to_o ordain_v the_o preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n gospel_n i_o answer_v that_o chief_o and_o ordinary_o at_o the_o least_o the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o do_v it_o and_o the_o first_o scripture_n be_v act._n 14._o 23._o and_o when_o they_o have_v ordain_v they_o elder_n in_o every_o church_n and_o pray_v with_o fast_v they_o commend_v they_o to_o the_o lord_n on_o who_o they_o believe_v for_o the_o place_n where_o they_o do_v ordain_v they_o you_o may_v see_v in_o the_o end_n of_o ver._n 21._o if_o you_o doubt_v whether_o these_o be_v preach_v elder_n that_o the_o apostle_n do_v there_o ordain_v i_o must_v say_v that_o it_o be_v very_o likely_a they_o be_v but_o if_o not_o yet_o it_o make_v for_o my_o point_n in_o hand_n for_o if_o it_o belong_v unto_o the_o apostle_n to_o ordain_v inferior_a elder_n than_o i_o be_o sure_a you_o will_v grant_v i_o the_o other_o viz._n that_o they_o do_v ordain_v the_o preach_n elder_n i_o can_v prove_v it_o out_o of_o other_o scripture_n plain_o but_o i_o know_v you_o will_v not_o oppose_v i_o in_o this_o but_o here_o be_v another_o objection_n and_o that_o be_v this_o although_o the_o apostle_n do_v it_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o to_o follow_v that_o rule_n still_o unless_o we_o have_v a_o command_n leave_v unto_o we_o so_o to_o do_v for_o evermore_o successive_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o what_o the_o apostle_n do_v then_o be_v for_o our_o imitation_n in_o that_o particular_a for_o they_o do_v not_o give_v preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n people_n and_o 2_o tim._n 2._o 2._o you_o may_v see_v what_o paul_n command_v timothy_n these_o be_v the_o word_n the_o thing_n that_o thou_o have_v hear_v of_o i_o among_o many_o witness_n the_o same_o commit_v thou_o to_o faithful_a man_n who_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o teach_v other_o also_o 1_o tim._n 5._o 22._o lay_v hand_n sudden_o on_o no_o man_n neither_o be_v partaker_n of_o other_o man_n sin_n keep_v thyself_o pure_a here_o you_o may_v see_v a_o second_o succession_n of_o the_o ordination_n of_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o now_o timothy_n must_v commit_v the_o doctrine_n or_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o other_o that_o he_o can_v find_v able_a and_o fit_a to_o teach_v other_o also_o the_o word_n commit_z carry_v weight_n with_o it_o and_o signify_v the_o leave_n in_o trust_n as_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o their_o dispensation_n to_o who_o it_o be_v to_o be_v so_o commit_v etc._n here_o you_o may_v see_v that_o the_o common_a hearer_n be_v not_o to_o ordain_v the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o true_a reason_n thereof_o be_v render_v in_o 2_o tim._n 3._o 10._o in_o these_o word_n thou_o have_v full_o know_v my_o doctrine_n etc._n etc._n it_o seem_v paul_n know_v well_o that_o those_o that_o be_v best_o able_a in_o knowledge_n be_v the_o fit_a to_o ordain_v the_o preacher_n and_o they_o be_v most_o know_a man_n that_o be_v then_o the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o far_o paul_n give_v he_o a_o rule_n whereby_o he_o may_v know_v who_o be_v those_o fit_a man_n to_o be_v the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o you_o may_v see_v in_o 1_o tim._n 3._o to_o the_o end_n of_o ver._n 13._o
