will_v secure_v believer_n from_o give_v heed_n unto_o this_o trifle_a deceit_n sect_n xii_o one_o thing_n more_o among_o many_o other_o of_o the_o same_o sort_n may_v be_v mention_v it_o be_v a_o notion_n of_o truth_n which_o derive_v from_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n that_o those_o who_o approach_v unto_o god_n in_o divine_a worship_n shall_v be_v careful_a that_o they_o be_v pure_a and_o clean_a without_o any_o offensive_a defilement_n this_o the_o heathen_a themselves_o give_v testimony_n unto_o and_o god_n confirm_v it_o in_o the_o institution_n of_o the_o law_n but_o what_o be_v these_o defilement_n and_o pollution_n which_o make_v we_o unmeet_a to_o approach_v unto_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n how_o and_o by_o what_o mean_v we_o may_v be_v purify_v and_o cleanse_v from_o they_o the_o gospel_n alone_o declare_v and_o it_o do_v in_o opposition_n unto_o all_o other_o way_n and_o mean_n of_o it_o plain_o reveal_v that_o it_o be_v by_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o the_o blood_n thing_n mysterious_a nothing_o but_o spiritual_a light_n and_o save_a faith_n can_v direct_v we_o herein_o man_n destitute_a of_o they_o can_v never_o attain_v a_o experience_n of_o purification_n in_o the_o way_n wherefore_o they_o retain_v the_o notion_n of_o truth_n itself_o but_o make_v a_o image_n of_o it_o for_o their_o use_n with_o a_o neglect_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o and_o this_o be_v the_o most_o ludicrous_a that_o can_v be_v imagine_v namely_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o themselves_o and_o other_o with_o that_o they_o call_v holy_a water_n when_o they_o go_v into_o the_o place_n of_o sacred_a worship_n which_o yet_o also_o they_o borrow_v from_o the_o pagan_n so_o stupid_a and_o sottish_a be_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n so_o dark_a and_o ignorant_a of_o heavenly_a thing_n that_o they_o have_v suffer_v their_o soul_n to_o be_v deceive_v and_o ruin_v by_o such_o vain_a superstitious_a trifle_n this_o discourse_n have_v already_o proceed_v unto_o a_o great_a length_n than_o be_v health_n be_v not_o overlove_v pain_n and_o sickness_n will_v be_v the_o more_o tolerable_a if_o child_n and_o friend_n be_v not_o overlove_v the_o death_n of_o they_o will_v not_o overwhelm_v we_o with_o inordinate_a sorrow_n if_o the_o body_n be_v not_o overlove_v and_o worldly_a wealth_n and_o prosperity_n overvalue_v it_o be_v easy_a to_o endure_v hard_a fare_n and_o labour_n and_o want_v not_o only_o of_o superfluity_n and_o convenience_n but_o even_o of_o that_o which_o be_v necessary_a to_o health_n yea_o or_o life_n itself_o if_o god_n will_v have_v it_o so_o at_o least_o to_o avoid_v vexation_n discontent_n and_o care_n and_o inordinate_a grief_n and_o trouble_v of_o mind_n 5._o there_o be_v yet_o more_o sin_n in_o the_o root_n of_o all_o and_o that_o be_v it_o show_v that_o our_o will_n be_v yet_o too_o selfish_a and_o not_o subdue_v to_o a_o due_a submission_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o we_o will_v be_v as_o god_n to_o our_o own_o choose_n and_o must_v trust_v his_o father_n how_o quiet_a will_v our_o mind_n be_v in_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o wisdom_n all-sufficiency_n and_o love_n 8._o and_o this_o unbelief_n yet_o have_v a_o worse_a effect_n than_o worldly_a trouble_n it_o show_v that_o man_n take_v not_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o heavenly_a glory_n for_o their_o sufficient_a portion_n unless_o they_o may_v have_v what_o they_o want_v or_o will_v have_v for_o the_o body_n this_o world_n unless_o they_o may_v be_v free_a from_o poverty_n and_o cross_n and_o provocation_n and_o injury_n and_o pain_n all_o that_o god_n have_v self-pollution_n or_o fornication_n and_o they_o know_v that_o for_o such_o thing_n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n come_v on_o the_o child_n of_o disobedience_n and_o yet_o the_o rage_n of_o appetite_n and_o lust_n prevail_v and_o they_o despair_v and_o sin_n and_o while_o the_o spark_n of_o hell_n fall_v on_o their_o conscience_n it_o change_v neither_o heart_n nor_o life_n there_o be_v some_o more_o hope_n of_o the_o recovery_n of_o these_o then_o of_o dead_a heart_a or_o unbelieving_a sinner_n who_o work_n uncleanness_n with_o greediness_n as_o be_v past_a feeling_n and_o blind_v to_o defend_v their_o sin_n and_o plead_v against_o holy_a obedience_n to_o god_n bruitishness_n be_v not_o so_o bad_a as_o diabolisme_n and_o malignity_n but_o none_o of_o these_o be_v the_o person_n speak_v of_o in_o any_o text_n their_o sorrow_n be_v not_o overmuch_o but_o too_o little_a as_o long_o as_o it_o will_v not_o restrain_v they_o from_o their_o sin_n but_o yet_o if_o god_n convert_v and_o terror_n be_v renew_v grievous_a sin_n have_v fasten_v so_o on_o the_o conscience_n of_o many_o as_o have_v cast_v they_o into_o uncurable_a melancholy_n and_o distraction_n iu._n but_o among_o people_n fear_v god_n there_o be_v yet_o another_o cause_n of_o melancholy_a and_o of_o sorrow_v overmuch_o and_o that_o be_v ignorance_n and_o mistake_n in_o maâ—â—â—â—_n which_o their_o peace_n and_o comfort_n be_v concern_v in_o i_o will_v name_v some_o particular_n 1._o one_o 〈◊〉_d ignorance_n of_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o covenant_n of_o grace_n as_o some_o libertine_n except_v from_o pardon_n to_o the_o soul_n that_o unfeigned_o turn_v to_o god_n by_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o whoever_o will_n may_v free_o take_v the_o water_n of_o life_n and_o all_o that_o be_v describe_v the_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o tell_v you_o how_o far_o a_o hypocrite_n may_v go_v so_o as_o unjust_o discourage_v and_o confound_v the_o weak_a sort_n of_o christian_n and_o can_v amend_v the_o mis-expression_n of_o their_o book_n or_o teacher_n sound_a teacher_n one_o of_o my_o hearer_n fall_v distract_v with_o read_v some_o passage_n in_o mr._n shepherd_n sincere_a believer_n which_o be_v not_o justifiable_a or_o sound_a and_o too_o many_o teacher_n lay_v man_n comfort_n if_o not_o salvation_n on_o controversy_n which_o be_v past_o their_o reach_n and_o pronounce_v heresy_n and_o damnation_n against_o that_o which_o they_o themselves_o understand_v not_o even_o the_o christian_a world_n these_o one_o thousand_o three_o hundred_o or_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o year_n be_v divide_v into_o party_n by_o the_o teacher_n unskilful_a quarrel_n about_o word_n which_o they_o take_v in_o several_a sense_n be_v it_o any_o wonder_n if_o the_o hearer_n of_o tell_v and_o i_o shall_v begin_v where_o the_o disease_n begin_v and_o tell_v you_o both_o what_o the_o patient_n himself_o must_v do_v and_o what_o must_v be_v do_v by_o his_o friend_n and_o teacher_n i._o look_v not_o on_o the_o sinful_a part_n of_o your_o trouble_n either_o as_o better_v or_o worse_o than_o indeed_o it_o be_v 1._o too_o many_o person_n in_o their_o suffering_n and_o they_o be_v more_o sensible_a how_o much_o sin_n their_o be_v in_o their_o overvalue_v the_o world_n and_o not_o trust_v god_n and_o in_o there_o hard_a thought_n of_o he_o and_o their_o poor_a unholy_a thought_n of_o his_o goodness_n and_o in_o their_o undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a glory_n which_o shall_v satisfy_v they_o in_o the_o most_o afflict_a state_n and_o in_o their_o daily_a impatience_n care_n and_o discontent_n and_o in_o deny_v the_o mercy_n or_o grace_n receive_v this_o will_v do_v more_o to_o cure_v some_o than_o word_n of_o comfort_n when_o they_o say_v as_o jonah_n i_o do_v well_o to_o be_v angry_a and_o think_v that_o all_o their_o denial_n of_o grace_n and_o distract_n sorrow_n and_o wrangle_v against_o god_n love_n and_o mercy_n be_v their_o duty_n its_o time_n to_o make_v they_o know_v how_o great_a sinner_n they_o be_v 2._o and_o yet_o when_o as_o foolish_o they_o think_v that_o all_o these_o sin_n be_v mark_n of_o a_o graceless_a state_n and_o that_o god_n will_v take_v the_o devil_n temptation_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o condemn_v they_o for_o that_o which_o they_o abhor_v and_o take_v their_o very_a disease_n of_o melancholy_a for_o a_o crime_n this_o also_o need_v confutation_n and_o reprehension_n that_o they_o may_v not_o by_o error_n cherish_v their_o passion_n or_o distress_n ii_o particular_o give_v not_o way_n to_o a_o habit_n of_o peevish_a impatience_n though_o it_o be_v carnal_a love_n to_o somewhat_o more_o than_o to_o god_n and_o glory_n which_o be_v the_o damn_v sin_n yet_o impatience_n must_v not_o pass_v for_o innocence_n do_v you_o not_o reckon_v upon_o suffering_n and_o of_o bear_v the_o cross_n when_o you_o first_o give_v up_o yourselves_o to_o christ_n and_o do_v you_o think_v it_o strange_a look_v for_o it_o and_o make_v it_o your_o daily_a study_n to_o prepare_v for_o any_o trial_n that_o god_n may_v bring_v you_o to_o and_o then_o it_o will_v not_o surprise_v you_o and_o overwhelm_v you_o prepare_v for_o the_o loss_n of_o child_n and_o friend_n for_o the_o loss_n of_o good_n and_o for_o poverty_n and_o want_n prepare_v for_o slander_n injury_n or_o poison_n for_o sickness_n pain_n and_o death_n it_o be_v your_o unpreparedness_n that_o make_v it_o seem_v unsufferable_a and_o remember_v that_o it_o be_v but_o a_o vile_a body_n that_o suffer_v which_o you_o always_o know_v must_v suffer_v death_n and_o rot_n to_o dust_n and_o whoever_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o your_o suffering_n it_o be_v god_n that_o tri_v you_o by_o it_o and_o when_o you_o think_v that_o you_o be_v only_o displease_v with_o man_n you_o be_v not_o guiltless_a of_o murmur_v against_o god_n or_o else_o his_o overrule_a hand_n
