and_o yet_o say_v he_o vow_n be_v right_o make_v to_o saint_n a_o strange_a thing_n how_o can_v these_o two_o consist_v hear_v i_o pray_v you_o his_o answer_n when_o the_o scripture_n be_v write_v say_v he_o vow_v to_o saint_n be_v not_o in_o use_n this_o certain_o be_v true_a but_o to_o confess_v it_o what_o else_o be_v it_o but_o to_o condemn_v their_o own_o practice_n as_o a_o innovation_n whereby_o the_o honour_n due_a to_o god_n alone_o be_v give_v to_o the_o creature_n o_o say_v he_o the_o saint_n be_v god_n by_o participation_n they_o in_o a_o most_o excellent_a manner_n be_v partaker_n of_o his_o natural_a glory_n but_o by_o no_o distinction_n may_v the_o honour_n due_a to_o god_n be_v give_v to_o any_o other_o &_o by_o the_o same_o shift_n they_o may_v allege_v offer_v promisarie_a oath_n except_o that_o the_o oath_n be_v make_v to_o man_n but_o the_o vow_n be_v make_v to_o god_n 2._o to_o vow_v to_o a_o false_a god_n shall_v be_v idolatry_n and_o therefore_o a_o vow_n to_o the_o true_a god_n be_v true_a religion_n and_o worship_n which_o shall_v hereafter_o more_o appear_v four_o willing_o it_o be_v a_o promise_n make_v willing_o god_n love_v a_o cheerful_a kind_n of_o vow_n be_v make_v by_o the_o people_n of_o god_n when_o turn_v back_o from_o their_o sin_n they_o renew_v their_o covenant_n with_o he_o and_o promise_v to_o walk_v in_o his_o commandment_n and_o this_o much_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o vow_n i_o come_v to_o the_o second_o point_n which_o be_v how_o this_o duty_n belong_v to_o thankfulness_n for_o clear_v of_o this_o consider_v vow_n that_o when_o a_o man_n promise_v any_o thing_n to_o god_n he_o do_v not_o so_o that_o god_n may_v have_v any_o gain_n or_o help_v thereby_o but_o that_o he_o may_v give_v due_a honour_n to_o god_n more_o particular_o by_o vow_v a_o man_n honour_v god_n in_o so_o far_o as_o hereby_o he_o acknowledge_v that_o god_n have_v a_o care_n and_o providence_n of_o humane_a affair_n and_o that_o it_o be_v he_o to_o who_o we_o shall_v have_v out_o recourse_n in_o troâ—ble_a &_o who_o alone_o can_v help_v we_o and_o from_o who_o we_o receive_v whatsoever_o we_o have_v 2._o by_o and_o why_o the_o vow_n shall_v be_v perform_v to_o he_o it_o be_v he_o that_o hear_v prayer_n many_o most_o excellent_a thing_n there_o be_v in_o god_n infinite_a wisdom_n infinite_a power_n infinite_a justice_n but_o if_o we_o consider_v they_o with_o reference_n to_o we_o &_o compare_v god_n riches_n glory_n and_o majesty_n with_o our_o misery_n unworthines_n and_o sin_n nothing_o deserve_v great_a thanksgiving_n than_o his_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n kthe_v in_o hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o in_o the_o gracious_a relief_n and_o supply_v of_o our_o necessity_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n most_o wonderful_a that_o he_o who_o be_v so_o high_a shall_v so_o regard_v we_o miserable_a worm_n creep_v upon_o the_o earth_n that_o he_o who_o be_v most_o bless_a in_o himself_o shall_v lord_n be_v say_v david_n as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v if_o you_o taste_v you_o will_v know_v the_o sweetness_n of_o his_o goodness_n mercy_n liberality_n and_o power_n so_o we_o may_v say_v of_o repentance_n it_o be_v answer_v first_o by_o some_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v not_o simple_o that_o it_o work_v repentance_n but_o that_o it_o work_v repentance_n unto_o salvation_n that_o be_v it_o make_v our_o repentance_n true_a profitable_a and_o save_a for_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o life_n of_o our_o repentance_n so_o we_o say_v that_o a_o sober-man_n make_v a_o healthfull-man_n or_o that_o a_o man_n addict_v to_o study_n make_v a_o learnedman_n 2._o this_o godly_a sorrow_n also_o work_v repentance_n itself_o in_o respect_n of_o diverse_a part_n thereof_o repentance_n have_v many_o thing_n in_o it_o and_o some_o of_o they_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o or_o great_o promove_v by_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n for_o clear_v of_o this_o consider_v that_o repentance_n be_v wrought_v in_o we_o after_o this_o manner_n penitent_n 1._o our_o mind_n be_v enlighten_v and_o the_o eye_n of_o it_o be_v open_v that_o we_o may_v see_v our_o sin_n the_o hynousnes_n and_o the_o deformity_n of_o they_o unless_o we_o have_v this_o sight_n we_o will_v never_o be_v grieve_v for_o they_o therefore_o david_n say_v psal_n 51._o i_o acknowledge_v my_o iniquity_n &_o my_o sin_n be_v continual_o before_o my_o eye_n so_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o prodigal_a son_n luk._n 15._o 17._o that_o he_o come_v to_o himself_o his_o eye_n be_v open_v to_o see_v his_o own_o misery_n and_o his_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o with_o this_o sight_n be_v join_v a_o sight_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n kindle_v against_o we_o for_o our_o sin_n for_o no_o man_n can_v right_o whereby_o he_o offend_v god_n and_o to_o have_v in_o he_o this_o godly_a
