have_v not_o seal_v the_o truth_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o hereupon_o when_o sharp_a trial_n come_v they_o despair_v because_o they_o have_v no_o feel_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o so_o when_o conscience_n be_v awaken_v and_o smart_v it_o clamour_n and_o cry_n out_o upon_o all_o their_o formal_a and_o humane_a knowledge_n for_o they_o have_v not_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o persuasion_n of_o comfort_n be_v not_o so_o near_o to_o support_v the_o soul_n as_o the_o tentation_n and_o vexation_n and_o torment_n be_v how_o can_v they_o but_o despair_n now_o who_o can_v still_o the_o conscience_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n why_o now_o if_o the_o knowledge_n that_o man_n have_v be_v spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a in_o all_o accusation_n of_o conscience_n it_o will_v set_v conscience_n down_o and_o still_o it_o i_o be_o a_o sinner_n indeed_o i_o be_o this_o and_o this_o but_o i_o have_v feel_v the_o sweet_a mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n god_n have_v say_v to_o my_o soul_n i_o be_o thy_o salvation_n he_o have_v intimate_v to_o my_o spirit_n by_o a_o sweet_a voice_n son_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o where_o there_o be_v i_o say_v a_o knowledge_n and_o a_o apprehension_n of_o these_o evangelical_n truth_n wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n it_o set_v down_o conscience_n and_o still_v it_o though_o the_o heart_n rage_n at_o the_o same_o time_n there_o be_v thousand_o in_o the_o very_a bosom_n of_o the_o church_n that_o miscarry_v because_o of_o this_o rest_v in_o a_o literal_a outward_a formal_a knowledge_n get_v only_o by_o discourse_n and_o by_o read_v and_o commerce_n with_o other_o and_o never_o labour_v to_o have_v their_o heart_n establish_v in_o christ_n by_o god_n spirit_n you_o see_v here_o then_o a_o
which_o i_o observe_v the_o rather_o because_o i_o will_v raise_v your_o heart_n to_o hate_v unbelief_n and_o distrust_n exceed_o because_o god_n labour_v to_o undermine_v it_o by_o all_o mean_v possible_a wherefore_o do_v he_o use_v so_o many_o term_n here_o of_o seal_v anoint_v and_o earnest_a with_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o all_o whatsoever_o may_v confirm_v you_o the_o holy_a ghost_n apply_v it_o to_o we_o all_o this_o be_v that_o we_o may_v not_o doubt_v of_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o find_v any_o goodness_n in_o we_o let_v we_o account_v that_o to_o give_v false_a witness_n against_o ourselves_o be_v a_o horrible_a sin_n it_o be_v to_o make_v god_n a_o liar_n god_n stand_v upon_o his_o credit_n and_o therefore_o take_v heed_n what_o conscience_n and_o that_o which_o must_v quiet_v the_o spirit_n must_v be_v such_o a_o spirit_n as_o be_v above_o our_o spirit_n this_o be_v excellent_o set_v down_o in_o this_o epistle_n in_o the_o 3._o chap._n the_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o this_o kind_n but_o i_o can_v stand_v upon_o it_o now_o at_o this_o time_n i_o go_v on_o likewise_o in_o the_o first_o epistle_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v in_o the_o breast_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o he_o know_v our_o spirit_n better_a than_o we_o know_v our_o own_o spirit_n he_o search_v he_o be_v a_o searcher_n as_o the_o word_n be_v in_o the_o original_n the_o spirit_n be_v a_o searcher_n he_o search_v our_o own_o heart_n and_o he_o search_v the_o secret_a love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o that_o be_v the_o spirit_n must_v establish_v we_o well_o then_o if_o the_o spirit_n do_v all_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v then_o that_o we_o have_v spirit_n this_o spirit_n a_o note_n or_o two_o and_o so_o go_v man_n have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n by_o those_o action_n that_o come_v only_o from_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v to_o
that_o the_o romish_a religion_n indeed_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o mere_a carnal_a devilish_a policy_n to_o bring_v other_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o they_o and_o to_o make_v not_o only_a king_n and_o prince_n but_o to_o make_v god_n and_o christ_n and_o the_o scripture_n whatsoever_o be_v divine_a or_o humane_a to_o make_v all_o to_o serve_v their_o aim_n what_o do_v they_o with_o christ_n but_o under_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n serve_v themselves_o what_o do_v they_o with_o the_o church_n but_o under_o the_o name_n of_o the_o church_n carry_v their_o own_o end_n what_o do_v they_o with_o the_o name_n of_o saint_n and_o angel_n peter_n mary_n etc._n etc._n but_o under_o a_o plausible_a pretence_n carry_v their_o own_o end_n and_o set_v up_o a_o visible_a greatness_n in_o this_o world_n answerable_a to_o the_o cesarian_a monarchy_n this_o be_v plain_a and_o evident_a to_o all_o that_o will_v see_v that_o it_o be_v so_o and_o one_o main_a way_n to_o attain_v their_o end_n be_v to_o rule_v over_o the_o conscience_n and_o that_o they_o may_v help_v all_o the_o better_a forward_o they_o have_v raise_v in_o the_o church_n a_o kind_n of_o faith_n which_o they_o call_v a_o implicit_a and_o enfold_v faith_n that_o people_n must_v believe_v what_o the_o church_n teach_v though_o they_o know_v not_o in_o particular_a what_o the_o church_n teach_v and_o so_o they_o lead_v people_n hoodwinck_v whither_o they_o please_v themselves_o to_o make_v some_o use_n of_o it_o brief_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o bless_v god_n that_o have_v free_v we_o from_o this_o spiritual_a tyranny_n tyranny_n o_o belove_a it_o be_v a_o great_a tyranny_n when_o conscience_n be_v awake_v to_o be_v rack_v and_o torment_v and_o sting_v by_o scorpion_n to_o have_v conscience_n torment_v with_o err_v and_o hereupon_o they_o come_v to_o tyrannize_v over_o the_o conscience_n and_o soul_n of_o people_n therefore_o i_o say_v let_v we_o bless_v god_n that_o have_v set_v our_o soul_n in_o spiritual_a liberty_n that_o now_o we_o see_v god_n in_o the_o face_n of_o christ_n now_o we_o see_v the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n we_o see_v the_o bread_n of_o life_n break_v to_o we_o we_o see_v christ_n unveil_v we_o see_v what_o to_o found_v our_o conscience_n upon_o we_o can_v be_v sufficient_o thankful_a for_o this_o thankful_a we_o may_v be_v for_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n that_o we_o have_v so_o long_a a_o time_n enjoy_v and_o for_o the_o outward_a prosperity_n we_o have_v so_o long_o have_v but_o above_o all_o be_v thankful_a for_o the_o peace_n of_o religion_n for_o the_o peace_n of_o conscience_n for_o the_o liberty_n of_o soul_n that_o we_o enjoy_v and_o as_o i_o say_v if_o any_o thing_n move_v god_n to_o strip_v we_o of_o all_o it_o will_v be_v our_o unthankfulness_n and_o our_o practice_n witness_v our_o unthankfulness_n by_o value_v no_o more_o the_o bless_a estate_n of_o the_o gospel_n we_o enjoy_v not_o that_o we_o have_v dominion_n over_o your_o faith_n this_o disposition_n to_o domineer_v over_o the_o faith_n of_o other_o from_o abominable_a ground_n it_o arise_v partly_o from_o pride_n and_o tyranny_n that_o they_o will_v set_v themselves_o in_o the_o tyranny_n temple_n of_o christ_n where_o he_o shall_v rule_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n and_o partly_o out_o of_o idleness_n they_o raise_v the_o credit_n of_o
