in_o a_o way_n of_o common_a reason_n but_o there_o be_v other_o thing_n require_v in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o jew_n and_o that_o be_v a_o ease_n that_o be_v very_o suitable_a to_o many_o man_n to_o have_v ease_v that_o way_n from_o their_o outward_a service_n yet_o certain_o the_o lord_n as_o we_o shall_v hear_v more_o by_o and_o by_o require_v of_o we_o more_o service_n other_o way_n and_o then_o three_o in_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n there_o the_o very_a service_n of_o god_n have_v a_o kind_n of_o burden_n in_o it_o for_o there_o be_v so_o many_o external_a performance_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v they_o beggarly_a rudiment_n so_o many_o outward_a ceremony_n outward_a thing_n that_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o they_o be_v mean_a thing_n and_o childish_a thing_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o be_v call_v by_o the_o apostle_n beggarly_a rudiment_n and_o true_o one_o will_v think_v that_o when_o we_o shall_v read_v such_o a_o scripture_n as_o that_o that_o shall_v call_v the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n beggarly_a rudiment_n that_o be_v the_o ceremony_n appoint_v by_o god_n himself_o and_o yet_o when_o they_o come_v to_o be_v abrogate_a they_o be_v call_v but_o beggarly_a rudiment_n one_o will_v admire_v how_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o any_o one_o that_o profess_v christianity_n shall_v come_v and_o conform_v themselves_o to_o so_o many_o ceremony_n as_o they_o have_v do_v to_o such_o beggarly_a rudiment_n certain_o these_o must_v needs_o be_v beggarly_a rudiment_n much_o more_o and_o many_o day_n as_o they_o do_v from_o their_o outward_a business_n this_o be_v somewhat_o sure_o if_o it_o be_v in_o man_n power_n to_o appoint_v ceremony_n and_o make_v day_n holy_a as_o many_o do_v undertake_v heretofore_o we_o have_v be_v bring_v into_o a_o great_a bondage_n than_o ever_o the_o jew_n be_v under_o the_o law_n but_o christ_n will_v have_v ease_n in_o the_o outward_a administration_n of_o his_o worship_n and_o then_o likewise_o though_o god_n have_v appoint_v some_o outward_a thing_n yet_o very_a few_o for_o the_o outward_a part_n of_o his_o worship_n what_o a_o few_o thing_n be_v appoint_v by_o jesus_n christ_n whereas_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n there_o be_v multitude_n of_o external_a thing_n yea_o and_o how_o easy_a be_v they_o that_o christ_n have_v appoint_v for_o the_o outward_a part_n of_o his_o worship_n whereas_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n it_o be_v hard_a as_o circumcision_n what_o a_o hard_a thing_n be_v it_o to_o have_v to_o foreskin_n of_o the_o flesh_n cut_v off_o and_o you_o know_v it_o make_v they_o sore_o when_o the_o man_n of_o sichem_n be_v circumcise_v they_o be_v so_o sore_o that_o two_o or_o three_o man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o further_o that_o be_v another_o argument_n that_o be_v very_o persuasive_a to_o the_o believer_n and_o his_o child_n for_o if_o god_n shall_v deny_v this_o condition_n to_o the_o child_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o be_v in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n it_o will_v make_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v hard_a than_o the_o law_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o deny_v such_o a_o mercy_n to_o believer_n child_n will_v be_v a_o hard_a yoke_n to_o believer_n a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o than_o all_o the_o ceremony_n be_v to_o the_o jew_n be_v the_o difference_n that_o there_o be_v between_o the_o ease_n that_o a_o carnal_a heart_n find_v in_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o ease_n that_o a_o true_a gracious_a heart_n find_v in_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n those_o that_o be_v carnal_a and_o take_v up_o but_o a_o mere_a formality_n of_o religion_n they_o find_v not_o ease_v but_o those_o that_o be_v true_o religious_a they_o find_v rest_n and_o the_o three_o be_v this_o if_o the_o way_n of_o god_n be_v easy_a how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o many_o that_o we_o hope_v be_v true_o gracious_a and_o godly_a yet_o make_v such_o complaint_n of_o so_o much_o difficulty_n as_o they_o do_v find_v in_o god_n way_n and_o then_o fourthly_a we_o be_v to_o open_v which_o be_v the_o principal_a of_o all_o in_o the_o explication_n wherein_o the_o easiness_n of_o god_n way_n appear_v what_o be_v those_o thing_n that_o do_v make_v the_o way_n of_o god_n so_o easy_a and_o in_o what_o particular_n do_v consist_v the_o easiness_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n and_o then_o five_o some_o consequence_n that_o be_v to_o be_v draw_v from_o this_o which_o be_v by_o way_n of_o application_n and_o sixthly_a and_o last_o some_o direction_n what_o we_o shall_v do_v to_o make_v the_o way_n of_o god_n easy_a these_o be_v the_o six_o head_n that_o i_o cast_v the_o handle_n of_o this_o point_n into_o chap._n cxxxv_o six_o evidence_n of_o the_o former_a doctrine_n in_o the_o last_o chapter_n 1._o because_o the_o word_n that_o enjoin_v these_o way_n be_v sweet_a 2._o a_o gracious_a soul_n count_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n if_o the_o word_n be_v sweet_a and_o delightful_a certain_o the_o way_n of_o god_n must_v needs_o be_v sweet_a and_o delightful_a that_o be_v require_v in_o the_o word_n that_o be_v the_o first_o evidence_n 2._o second_o sure_o they_o be_v sweet_a and_o delightful_a for_o those_o that_o be_v in_o god_n way_n do_v not_o account_v what_o they_o do_v only_o to_o be_v duty_n but_o privilege_n they_o look_v upon_o every_o thing_n that_o christian_a religion_n require_v of_o they_o not_o only_o as_o duty_n but_o as_o mercy_n as_o that_o wherein_o their_o happiness_n fall_v amiss_o they_o be_v so_o vex_v i_o but_o now_o one_o that_o be_v godly_a set_v about_o his_o business_n in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o commit_v all_o to_o god_n and_o leave_v the_o success_n to_o god_n and_o so_o he_o be_v at_o ease_n a_o servant_n now_o if_o he_o have_v not_o grace_v in_o he_o or_o her_o heart_n if_o the_o master_n or_o mistress_n do_v not_o please_v they_o they_o go_v about_o their_o work_n and_o fret_v and_o vex_v themselves_o but_o now_o those_o that_o have_v grace_n and_o know_v that_o they_o be_v in_o the_o way_n that_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o and_o make_v every_o thing_n easy_a our_o life_n easy_a and_o our_o death_n easy_a our_o passage_n out_o of_o this_o world_n will_v be_v easy_a too_o but_o there_o be_v two_o or_o three_o thing_n more_o to_o be_v add_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n be_v easy_a in_o regard_n of_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o say_v christ_n in_o the_o text_n take_v my_o yoke_n upon_o you_o for_o my_o yoke_n be_v easy_a the_o yoke_n and_o bondage_n you_o be_v under_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o law_n that_o be_v a_o burden_n but_o my_o yoke_n be_v easy_a and_o it_o be_v easy_a in_o respect_n of_o antichrist_n that_o be_v speak_v prophetical_o indeed_o but_o now_o we_o may_v open_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n in_o respect_n to_o that_o but_o then_o compare_v it_o with_o the_o yoke_n of_o sin_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o yoke_n of_o antichrist_n their_o yoke_n be_v far_o hard_o than_o the_o yoke_n of_o jesus_n christ_n i_o conâ—ess_v i_o need_v not_o spend_v much_o time_n upon_o those_o two_o of_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o yoke_n of_o sin_n somewhat_o i_o will_v speak_v of_o either_o of_o they_o to_o open_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o yoke_n in_o they_o and_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n though_o there_o have_v be_v a_o great_a deal_n say_v in_o open_v of_o the_o text_n come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v give_v to_o be_v restrain_v from_o this_o creature_n and_o the_o other_o creature_n and_o then_o second_o we_o have_v a_o great_a
what_o you_o do_v now_o and_o if_o they_o see_v that_o since_o you_o begin_v to_o go_v to_o sermon_n and_o to_o make_v more_o profession_n of_o religion_n that_o your_o life_n be_v more_o fill_v with_o discomfort_n and_o vex_v and_o fret_v and_o discouragement_n than_o before_o what_o will_v they_o say_v what_o way_n be_v these_o who_o will_v come_v into_o these_o way_n they_o make_v theâ—_n mad_a and_o make_v they_o fool_n and_o unfit_a they_o for_o any_o business_n oh_o this_o be_v a_o shame_n to_o he_o way_n of_o christ_n though_o it_o be_v true_a now_o thou_o see_v more_o cause_n of_o humiliation_n than_o before_o but_o for_o all_o this_o know_v that_o this_o be_v not_o legal_a humiliation_n but_o evangelical_a humiliation_n and_o there_o be_v sweetness_n in_o that_o bitter_a of_o sin_n if_o thou_o understand_v it_o in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n and_o though_o thou_o shall_v mourn_v for_o thy_o sin_n yet_o thou_o shall_v carry_v thyself_o with_o that_o gentleness_n and_o humility_n and_o meekness_n in_o thy_o spirit_n thou_o shall_v discover_v that_o sweetness_n of_o heart_n and_o cheerfulness_n and_o activeness_n in_o your_o calling_n go_v about_o your_o business_n better_o than_o ever_o before_o that_o they_o may_v say_v sure_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n be_v easy_a and_o so_o other_o may_v be_v in_o love_n with_o they_o but_o if_o other_o shall_v see_v you_o to_o be_v more_o high_a and_o lofty_a in_o your_o spirit_n more_o proud_a more_o disdain_v more_o neglective_a in_o your_o calling_n and_o more_o cross_a in_o your_o carriage_n than_o before_o than_o they_o will_v be_v keep_v off_o from_o those_o way_n consequence_n 5._o again_o if_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n be_v so_o easy_a certain_o jesus_n christ_n will_v expect_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o service_n from_o you_o because_o he_o give_v you_o much_o ease_n a_o man_n that_o walk_v at_o liberty_n he_o may_v walk_v apace_o a_o porter_n that_o have_v a_o great_a burden_n upon_o he_o whilst_o that_o that_o burden_n be_v upon_o he_o he_o can_v go_v so_o fast_o if_o one_o shall_v come_v and_o say_v to_o he_o why_o do_v not_o you_o go_v fast_o he_o will_v answer_v if_o you_o have_v such_o a_o no_o weight_n upon_o you_o in_o his_o way_n then_o let_v we_o run_v the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n believer_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n they_o have_v shackle_n they_o have_v a_o weight_n a_o burden_n upon_o they_o and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n we_o do_v not_o read_v of_o so_o much_o holiness_n and_o spiritualness_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o godly_a in_o the_o time_n of_o paul_n and_o have_v know_v all_o of_o christ_n and_o hear_v so_o much_o of_o the_o gospel_n open_v to_o he_o how_o will_v he_o have_v say_v o_o how_o sweet_a be_v thy_o law_n and_o if_o his_o heart_n be_v enlarge_v he_o can_v run_v the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n i_o but_o david_n he_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n for_o it_o be_v not_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n certain_o he_o have_v not_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o thing_n reveal_v there_o though_o he_o have_v a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n and_o if_o he_o walk_v so_o free_o and_o cheerful_o in_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n certain_o we_o shall_v do_v much_o more_o service_n for_o the_o lord_n now_o the_o yoke_n be_v take_v from_o we_o as_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n in_o respect_n of_o charge_n we_o be_v free_v from_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o charge_n that_o they_o be_v at_o therefore_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o free_a when_o god_n require_v it_o of_o we_o and_o they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o outward_a thing_n in_o mere_a outward_a thing_n then_o shall_v we_o grudge_v god_n our_o time_n in_o spiritual_a communion_n or_o grudge_n god_n time_n in_o our_o family_n a_o quarter_n of_o a_o hour_n to_o worship_n god_n in_o our_o family_n morning_n and_o evening_n in_o the_o law_n they_o spend_v abundance_n of_o time_n in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n it_o may_v be_v you_o think_v it_o much_o to_o rise_v and_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n they_o be_v fain_o to_o go_v long_a journey_n to_o worship_n at_o jerusalem_n wherever_o they_o live_v in_o the_o country_n to_o go_v to_o jerusalem_n to_o worship_n and_o yet_o their_o worship_n be_v but_o a_o external_a thing_n and_o in_o the_o great_a part_n but_o bodily_a labour_n when_o they_o go_v thus_o to_o worship_n they_o have_v not_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n open_v to_o they_o as_o you_o have_v to_o recompense_v your_o labour_n therefore_o i_o say_v be_v more_o abundant_a in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n we_o have_v a_o notable_a scripture_n for_o this_o in_o act_n 9_o 31._o of_o the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n when_o once_o they_o have_v ease_n and_o rest_n mark_v what_o come_v of_o it_o then_o have_v the_o church_n rest_n throughout_o all_o judea_n and_o galâ—lee_n and_o samaria_n and_o be_v edify_v and_o walk_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o in_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n weâ—e_v multiply_v here_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o rest_n the_o ease_n of_o a_o secure_a heart_n be_v that_o that_o make_v it_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o flourish_v in_o the_o court_n of_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n that_o cause_v fatness_n the_o one_o be_v much_o feed_v the_o other_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o ease_n when_o man_n feed_v much_o and_o then_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ease_n this_o cause_v fatness_n if_o there_o be_v either_o want_n of_o food_n or_o if_o there_o be_v never_o so_o much_o food_n yet_o if_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o labour_n it_o keep_v they_o from_o fatness_n but_o when_o there_o be_v ease_n and_o food_n that_o cause_v bodily_a fatness_n now_o christ_n expect_v in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o all_o christian_n shall_v be_v fat_a and_o well_o like_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v lean_a in_o their_o soul_n why_o for_o 1._o they_o have_v as_o plentiful_a food_n as_o ever_o be_v since_o the_o world_n begin_v never_o have_v they_o better_a diet_n and_o more_o full_a diet_n and_o wholesome_a diet_n than_o now_o and_o 2._o of_o christ_n so_o easy_a as_o now_o there_o be_v a_o reveal_n indeed_o of_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o be_v easy_a sensual_o and_o loose_v but_o woe_n to_o those_o that_o be_v thus_o at_o ease_n but_o i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o reveal_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v easy_a spiritual_o certain_o former_o many_o go_v to_o heaven_n more_o hardly_o than_o we_o not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o suffering_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o horror_n of_o sin_n the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o bring_v to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o be_v bring_v with_o abundance_n of_o horror_n and_o have_v much_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n upon_o they_o and_o god_n do_v recompense_v they_o afterward_o abundant_o and_o we_o find_v this_o that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o many_o true_a christian_n never_o know_v so_o much_o horror_n of_o
thy_o soul_n and_o other_o sin_n the_o sin_n of_o thy_o passion_n and_o the_o sin_n of_o thy_o give_a liberty_n to_o thy_o thought_n may_v be_v as_o a_o thorn_n to_o thy_o foot_n to_o make_v thy_o way_n very_o hard_o unto_o thou_o no_o marvel_n though_o thou_o complain_v the_o way_n be_v hard_a it_o be_v not_o the_o hardness_n of_o thy_o path_n but_o the_o tenderness_n of_o thy_o foot_n that_o with_o pain_n and_o he_o look_v upon_o his_o foot_n and_o pull_v the_o thorn_n out_o he_o go_v with_o ease_n then_o as_o the_o beast_n when_o you_o go_v in_o the_o way_n and_o your_o beast_n halt_v and_o shufflle_n you_o will_v have_v he_o search_v if_o you_o can_v see_v it_o yourself_o then_o when_o you_o come_v to_o the_o next_o smith_n you_o have_v he_o search_v so_o do_v you_o find_v the_o way_n of_o god_n difficult_a that_o you_o can_v go_v the_o pace_n you_o be_v wont_a to_o go_v search_v your_o heart_n see_v whether_o there_o be_v not_o a_o stone_n in_o your_o heart_n or_o some_o gravel_n see_v if_o there_o be_v any_o particular_a sin_n that_o you_o know_v to_o be_v a_o sin_n and_o particular_o repent_v of_o that_o and_o that_o will_v make_v the_o way_n of_o god_n easy_a to_o you_o the_o often_o renew_v of_o repentance_n will_v make_v the_o way_n of_o god_n easy_a 6._o labour_n by_o wisdom_n to_o order_v the_o duty_n of_o your_o condition_n that_o be_v thus_o labour_n for_o wisdom_n to_o know_v what_o be_v suitable_a to_o your_o condition_n and_o order_v the_o duty_n about_o that_o condition_n many_o think_v oh_o if_o i_o be_v in_o such_o a_o place_n as_o such_o a_o one_o be_v i_o will_v do_v thus_o and_o thus_o but_o you_o shall_v look_v upon_o the_o duty_n of_o your_o present_a condition_n what_o be_v the_o condition_n that_o i_o be_o now_o in_o i_o be_o a_o servant_n what_o be_v my_o duty_n in_o that_o condition_n not_o what_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o governor_n and_o so_o in_o a_o single_a estate_n what_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o this_o condition_n not_o what_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o marry_a condition_n and_o so_o in_o a_o marry_a condition_n what_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o that_o and_o so_o when_o you_o be_v in_o affliction_n what_o be_v your_o duty_n at_o that_o time_n or_o if_o so_o be_v that_o god_n call_v you_o to_o humiliation_n you_o shall_v mind_v the_o duty_n of_o humiliation_n and_o when_o god_n call_v you_o to_o rejoice_v you_o shall_v know_v the_o duty_n of_o that_o time_n some_z when_o god_n call_v they_o to_o rejoice_v they_o think_v they_o must_v be_v humble_v and_o when_o they_o be_v call_v to_o be_v humble_v they_o think_v they_o shall_v rejoice_v and_o when_o they_o be_v call_v to_o believe_a than_o they_o will_v be_v pore_v upon_o their_o corruption_n and_o when_o god_n call_v they_o to_o search_v of_o their_o heart_n they_o have_v thought_n of_o matter_n of_o joy_n now_o wisdom_n to_o suit_n our_o duty_n to_o our_o condition_n and_o to_o apply_v our_o duty_n to_o that_o condition_n be_v a_o great_a ease_n to_o the_o soul_n now_o many_o time_n we_o be_v think_v of_o a_o duty_n at_o one_o time_n that_o be_v not_o the_o duty_n of_o that_o time_n may_v be_v when_o one_o be_v sick_a oh_o they_o be_v many_o time_n trouble_v that_o they_o can_v go_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o mere_a with_o god_n people_n and_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n and_o read_v as_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v and_o upon_o this_o they_o trouble_v themselves_o now_o this_o be_v not_o the_o duty_n of_o your_o condition_n the_o duty_n of_o your_o condition_n at_o that_o time_n be_v to_o fanctify_v god_n name_n in_o your_o affliction_n and_o to_o quiet_a your_o heart_n under_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o the_o duty_n of_o your_o condition_n be_v not_o to_o go_v to_o hear_v sermon_n now_o but_o to_o think_v of_o what_o you_o have_v hear_v heretofore_o the_o duty_n of_o your_o condition_n now_o be_v not_o to_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o your_o closet_n in_o prayer_n as_o when_o you_o be_v in_o health_n and_o you_o be_v trouble_v for_o the_o want_n of_o this_o we_o often_o trouble_v ourselves_o about_o those_o duty_n that_o be_v not_o the_o duty_n of_o our_o present_a condition_n and_o that_o make_v they_o difficult_a now_o wisdom_n in_o order_v our_o duty_n will_v much_o help_v to_o facilitate_v they_o 7._o another_o rule_n be_v this_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n you_o shall_v ease_v yourselves_o of_o the_o care_n of_o the_o success_n of_o what_o you_o do_v about_o success_n or_o discouragement_n for_o want_n of_o success_n nothing_o make_v our_o life_n more_o troublesome_a and_o our_o work_n more_o difficult_a than_o our_o cark_n care_v about_o success_n i_o will_v do_v this_o and_o this_o but_o i_o be_o afraid_a i_o shall_v not_o have_v success_n or_o if_o i_o have_v success_n not_o such_o as_o i_o desire_v but_o now_o if_o you_o will_v perform_v duty_n in_o a_o gracious_a manner_n look_v to_o the_o duty_n perform_v that_o and_o cast_v the_o care_n whole_o upon_o god_n it_o be_v enough_o for_o i_o to_o do_v what_o be_v require_v of_o i_o as_o a_o creature_n to_o do_v and_o let_v god_n himself_o take_v care_n of_o that_o that_o belong_v to_o he_o and_o that_o be_v the_o success_n i_o tell_v you_o in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o ease_n that_o there_o be_v certain_a success_n and_o yet_o we_o may_v trouble_v ourselves_o in_o cark_n about_o success_n now_o if_o we_o can_v go_v on_o in_o performance_n of_o duty_n and_o never_o be_v trouble_v about_o success_n it_o will_v be_v exceed_o easy_a but_o christian_n find_v sometime_o that_o though_o they_o have_v be_v diligent_a in_o performance_n of_o duty_n yet_o they_o do_v not_o find_v success_n they_o find_v nothing_o come_v of_o it_o and_o this_o trouble_v they_o
