effect_n of_o a_o thing_n to_o god_n when_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o do_v plain_o flow_v from_o he_o and_o though_o this_o will_v appear_v to_o a_o great_a many_o a_o hard_a say_v so_o that_o few_o will_v be_v able_a to_o bear_v it_o yet_o i_o must_v add_v this_o to_o the_o encouragement_n and_o comfort_n of_o such_o as_o can_v resolve_v to_o deliver_v themselves_o up_o to_o the_o conduct_n and_o direction_n of_o providence_n that_o i_o never_o yet_o know_v any_o one_o of_o those_o few_o too_o few_o i_o confess_v they_o have_v be_v who_o be_v possess_v with_o this_o maxim_n and_o that_o have_v follow_v it_o exact_o that_o have_v not_o find_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o even_o in_o this_o world_n a_o watchful_a care_n have_v hover_v over_o they_o instrument_n have_v be_v raise_v up_o and_o accident_n have_v happen_v to_o they_o so_o prosperous_o as_o if_o there_o have_v be_v a_o secret_a design_n of_o heaven_n by_o blessing_n they_o so_o signal_o to_o encourage_v other_o to_o follow_v their_o measure_n to_o depend_v on_o god_n to_o deliver_v themselves_o up_o to_o his_o care_n and_o to_o wait_v till_o he_o open_v a_o way_n for_o their_o be_v employ_v and_o settle_v in_o such_o a_o portion_n of_o his_o husbandry_n as_o he_o shall_v think_v fit_a to_o assign_v to_o they_o these_o be_v preparation_n of_o mind_n with_o which_o a_o clerk_n be_v to_o be_v form_v and_o season_v and_o in_o order_n to_o this_o he_o must_v read_v the_o scripture_n much_o he_o must_v get_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o those_o passage_n in_o they_o that_o relate_v to_o these_o thing_n by_o heart_n and_o repeat_v they_o often_o to_o himself_o in_o particular_a many_o of_o the_o most_o tender_a and_o melt_a psalm_n and_o many_o of_o the_o most_o comprehensive_a passage_n in_o the_o epistle_n that_o by_o the_o frequent_a reflect_v on_o these_o he_o may_v fill_v his_o memory_n with_o noble_a notion_n and_o right_a idea_n of_o thing_n the_o book_n of_o proverb_n but_o chief_o ecclesiaste_v if_o he_o can_v get_v to_o understand_v it_o will_v beget_v in_o he_o a_o right_a view_n of_o the_o world_n a_o just_a value_n of_o thing_n and_o a_o contempt_n of_o many_o object_n that_o shine_v with_o a_o false_a lustre_n but_o have_v no_o true_a worth_n in_o they_o some_o of_o the_o book_n teach_v at_o school_n if_o read_v afterward_o when_o one_o be_v more_o capable_a to_o observe_v the_o sense_n of_o they_o may_v be_v of_o great_a use_n to_o promote_v this_o temper_n tully_n office_n will_v give_v the_o mind_n a_o noble_a set_v all_o his_o philosophical_a discourse_n but_o chief_o his_o consolation_n which_o though_o some_o critic_n will_v not_o allow_v to_o be_v his_o because_o they_o fancy_n the_o style_n have_v not_o all_o the_o force_n and_o beauty_n in_o it_o poet_n horace_n juvenal_n and_o persius_n may_v contribute_v wonderful_o to_o give_v a_o man_n a_o detestation_n of_o vice_n and_o a_o contempt_n of_o the_o common_a method_n of_o mankind_n which_o they_o have_v set_v out_o in_o such_o true_a colour_n that_o they_o must_v give_v a_o very_a generous_a sense_n to_o those_o who_o delight_n in_o read_v they_o often_o persius_n his_o second_o satyr_n may_v well_o pass_v for_o one_o of_o the_o best_a lecture_n in_o divinity_n hieracles_n upon_o pythagoras_n plutarch_n life_n and_o above_o all_o the_o book_n of_o heathenism_n epictetus_n and_o marcus_n aurelius_n contain_v such_o instruction_n that_o one_o can_v read_v they_o too_o often_o nor_o repass_v they_o too_o frequent_o in_o his_o thought_n but_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o read_v these_o book_n i_o do_v not_o mean_v only_o to_o run_v through_o they_o as_o one_o do_v through_o a_o book_n of_o history_n or_o of_o notion_n they_o must_v be_v read_v and_o weigh_v with_o great_a care_n till_o one_o be_v become_v a_o master_n of_o all_o the_o thought_n that_o be_v in_o they_o they_o be_v to_o be_v often_o turn_v in_o one_o mind_n till_o he_o be_v thereby_o wrought_v up_o to_o some_o degree_n of_o that_o temper_n which_o they_o propose_v and_o as_o for_o christian_a book_n in_o order_n to_o the_o frame_n of_o one_o mind_n aright_o i_o shall_v only_o recommend_v the_o whole_a duty_n of_o man_n dr._n
