care_n of_o his_o people_n he_o suffer_v sometime_o some_o of_o they_o to_o fall_v in_o and_o by_o public_a calamity_n and_o thus_o i_o have_v dispatch_v the_o doctrinal_a part_n of_o this_o truth_n and_o i_o shall_v conclude_v what_o i_o have_v more_o to_o say_v to_o it_o in_o a_o little_a application_n be_v this_o true_a that_o god_n do_v in_o a_o peculiar_a way_n in_o time_n of_o public_a calamity_n look_v after_o his_o people_n 1._o sure_o then_o it_o shall_v stir_v up_o all_o that_o have_v any_o mercy_n of_o this_o kind_n to_o give_v the_o lord_n the_o glory_n of_o his_o goodness_n and_o speak_v good_a of_o his_o name_n that_o he_o be_v please_v thus_o to_o bear_v a_o hand_n upon_o his_o own_o people_n 2._o the_o lord_n take_v this_o care_n for_o his_o people_n you_o ought_v in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o give_v far_a opportunity_n to_o get_v the_o soul_n into_o a_o better_a order_n to_o mourn_v over_o past_a miscarriage_n for_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o best_a and_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o best_a have_v need_n be_v better_a and_o he_o â—hat_n outlive_v a_o calamity_n live_v to_o a_o far_a opportunity_n of_o get_v his_o heart_n better_o prepare_v say_v david_n oh_o spare_v i_o a_o little_a that_o i_o may_v recover_v my_o strength_n before_o i_o go_v hence_o and_o be_v no_o more_o see_v length_n of_o time_n be_v a_o advantage_n to_o get_v more_o of_o strength_n and_o they_o that_o be_v wise_a who_o god_n have_v deliver_v they_o shall_v improve_v it_o ezek._n 6.8_o 9_o yet_o will_v i_o leave_v a_o remnant_n etc._n etc._n this_o improvement_n shall_v the_o escape_v remnant_n make_v of_o their_o escape_n they_o shall_v mourn_v over_o theiâ—_n heart_n and_o way_n at_o a_o great_a rate_n than_o ever_o so_o ezek._n 7.16_o but_o they_o that_o escape_v of_o that_o you_o shall_v outlive_v the_o present_a providence_n why_o if_o you_o will_v then_o labour_v to_o get_v some_o of_o the_o mark_n that_o be_v to_o be_v find_v upon_o those_o that_o god_n do_v what_o you_o have_v within_o you_o to_o witness_v to_o you_o that_o you_o be_v a_o people_n walk_v with_o god_n 4._o will_v you_o be_v of_o the_o escape_v number_n pray_v what_o faith_n have_v you_o how_o stand_v youâ—_n faith_n examine_v that_o a_o little_a some_o there_o be_v that_o say_v i_o bless_v god_n i_o can_v trust_v he_o without_o any_o hesitation_n without_o any_o stumble_n but_o i_o 1._o unbelief_n i_o say_v that_o cut_v short_a of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o mercy_n particular_o in_o such_o a_o day_n as_o this_o if_o you_o will_v be_v carry_v through_o the_o wilderness_n watch_v against_o unbelief_n 2._o security_n a_o people_n not_o be_v affect_v with_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n it_o lay_v they_o as_o much_o open_a to_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o judgement_n as_o any_o thing_n else_o isa_n 5.11_o and_o the_o harp_n and_o the_o viol_n etc._n etc._n a_o regardless_a sottish_a stupid_a people_n that_o be_v not_o affect_v with_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n shall_v fall_v by_o they_o 3._o presumption_n also_o which_o they_o call_v faith_n and_o that_o do_v as_o certain_o lay_v open_a the_o soul_n to_o misery_n as_o any_o other_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v hint_v now_o consider_v a_o little_a how_o it_o be_v with_o you_o be_v your_o faith_n true_a faith_n or_o be_v it_o not_o security_n be_v it_o not_o presumption_n be_v you_o sure_a it_o be_v faith_n if_o not_o it_o will_v do_v you_o no_o service_n you_o may_v think_v it_o be_v faith_n when_o it_o may_v prove_v somewhat_o else_o it_o may_v prove_v security_n you_o think_v you_o have_v faith_n because_o you_o have_v not_o fear_v i_o tell_v you_o soul_n there_o may_v and_o shall_v be_v a_o awe_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o be_v faith_n as_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o by_o and_o by_o you_o may_v think_v it_o faith_n because_o you_o be_v secure_a and_o not_o much_o affect_v but_o take_v heed_n lest_o it_o shall_v disappoint_v thou_o if_o it_o be_v not_o faith_n it_o may_v lay_v you_o open_a to_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n and_o cut_v you_o short_a of_o be_v one_o of_o the_o escape_v remnant_n as_o well_o as_o any_o thing_n else_o whatever_a if_o you_o have_v true_a faith_n you_o will_v know_v it_o by_o one_o or_o two_o thing_n 1._o you_o will_v be_v sensible_a of_o your_o great_a unworthiness_n to_o receive_v any_o thing_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n or_o to_o be_v preserve_v by_o he_o that_o be_v the_o property_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v a_o humble_v grace_n a_o self-abasing_a grace_n lam._n 3.22_o it_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n mercy_n we_o be_v not_o consume_v here_o be_v faith_n at_o work_n and_o what_o effect_n have_v it_o upon_o their_o soul_n oh_o it_o make_v they_o very_o sensible_a of_o their_o unworthiness_n to_o receive_v any_o mercy_n at_o the_o lord_n hand_n it_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n mercy_n that_o we_o be_v not_o consume_v call_v thy_o confidence_n what_o thou_o will_v if_o it_o have_v not_o some_o effect_n upon_o thou_o of_o this_o kind_n it_o be_v not_o true_a faith_n 2_o if_o thou_o have_v faith_n it_o have_v a_o allay_n and_o mixrure_n of_o a_o holy_a awe_n of_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n faith_n be_v not_o a_o thing_n that_o make_v a_o man_n stupid_a but_o sensible_a and_o tender_a faith_n as_o it_o look_v to_o the_o promise_n for_o preservation_n so_o it_o seetâ—_n god_n in_o the_o judgement_n and_o it_o be_v affect_v with_o that_o glory_n and_o majesty_n of_o god_n that_o shine_v
that_o you_o may_v escape_v these_o thing_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v my_o brethren_n my_o poor_a disciple_n with_o who_o my_o heart_n be_v and_o for_o who_o weal_n and_o welfare_n i_o be_o great_o engage_v it_o be_v true_a sad_a thing_n must_v be_v in_o the_o world_n but_o i_o will_v take_v a_o little_a care_n of_o you_o and_o stand_v by_o you_o and_o be_v a_o help_n to_o you_o by_o what_o mean_v i_o may_v that_o you_o may_v ride_v safe_a in_o and_o through_o that_o storm_n and_o when_o the_o world_n shall_v be_v in_o a_o flame_n and_o every_o corner_n of_o it_o full_a of_o trouble_n i_o will_v that_o thing_n may_v then_o go_v well_o with_o you_o and_o your_o weal_n may_v go_v forward_o notwithstanding_o that_o be_v the_o second_o 3._o but_o note_v this_o that_o the_o escape_n of_o common_a calamity_n it_o be_v a_o great_a honour_n and_o great_a mercy_n and_o that_o that_o gracious_a heart_n ought_v to_o put_v out_o earnest_o for_o i_o gather_v this_o note_n thus_o that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a honour_n a_o great_a mercy_n from_o that_o expression_n that_o you_o may_v be_v account_v worthy_a to_o escape_v i_o tell_v you_o soul_n those_o that_o god_n thus_o in_o a_o way_n of_o mercy_n shelter_n and_o preserve_n and_o carry_v through_o day_n of_o evil_a and_o time_n of_o common_a calamity_n it_o be_v a_o mark_n of_o honour_n that_o god_n put_v on_o they_o and_o it_o be_v a_o mercy_n also_o that_o gracious_a soul_n shall_v make_v after_o and_o put_v themselves_o forward_o for_o the_o attain_n of_o that_o i_o gather_v thus_o watch_v you_o and_o pray_v always_o make_v out_o after_o this_o mercy_n put_v out_o earnest_o for_o it_o look_v not_o upon_o it_o as_o a_o indifferent_a thing_n whether_o you_o escape_v or_o not_o but_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o mercy_n worth_a the_o seek_n after_o that_o be_v a_o three_o thing_n that_o lie_v plain_o in_o the_o word_n again_o 4._o note_v that_o watchfulness_n and_o prayer_n be_v the_o necessary_a medium_n the_o proper_a mean_n at_o least_o a_o part_n and_o great_a part_n of_o the_o proper_a mean_n to_o which_o we_o be_v direct_v for_o preservation_n in_o time_n of_o common_a calamity_n 5._o and_o then_o one_o thing_n more_o i_o will_v also_o recommend_v to_o you_o from_o these_o word_n and_o that_o be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o escape_v common_a calamity_n only_o that_o we_o be_v to_o be_v solicitous_a about_o but_o also_o and_o above_o all_o and_o more_o especial_o how_o we_o may_v after_o all_o stand_n before_o the_o son_n of_o man_n etc._n etc._n alas_o my_o brethren_n what_o if_o god_n shall_v satisfy_v and_o assure_v you_o or_o i_o and_o tell_v you_o from_o heaven_n you_o shall_v survive_v and_o outlive_v the_o distress_n of_o your_o day_n but_o yet_o when_o this_o be_v do_v and_o you_o be_v pass_v this_o storm_n you_o must_v stand_v before_o the_o judgement-seat_n of_o christ_n every_o soul_n must_v appear_v at_o that_o great_a tribunal_n from_o which_o there_o be_v no_o exemption_n by_o any_o mean_n whatever_o and_o the_o presence_n and_o glory_n the_o dread_a and_o majesty_n of_o that_o day_n be_v more_o and_o another_o kind_n of_o thing_n than_o any_o dispensation_n upon_o earth_n can_v be_v suppose_v to_o be_v therefore_o how_o to_o hold_v up_o the_o head_n and_o stand_v with_o comfort_n at_o such_o a_o time_n be_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o we_o be_v especial_o to_o be_v solicitous_a about_o and_o that_o which_o our_o soul_n shall_v be_v make_v out_o the_o hard_a after_o now_o i_o confess_v the_o two_o latter_a of_o these_o note_n will_v be_v most_o spiritual_a and_o that_o that_o the_o soul_n and_o its_o concernment_n lie_v most_o in_o and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v be_v much_o the_o short_a in_o the_o three_o former_a though_o it_o be_v requisite_a to_o spend_v sometime_o on_o they_o consider_v the_o dispensation_n of_o god_n at_o this_o day_n i_o shall_v begin_v with_o with_o the_o first_o and_o shall_v be_v brief_a in_o the_o speak_n unto_o it_o viz._n that_o some_o dreadful_a providence_n muâ—â—_n break_v in_o upon_o the_o world_n there_o be_v time_n and_o season_n when_o dreadful_a thing_n must_v come_v upon_o the_o earth_n such_o as_o shall_v sink_v the_o soul_n of_o many_o of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o there_o be_v a_o threefold_a reason_n of_o it_o 1._o because_o god_n have_v speak_v it_o and_o he_o must_v not_o be_v a_o liar_n he_o be_v true_a therefore_o what_o he_o have_v say_v must_v come_v to_o pass_v i_o tell_v you_o though_o it_o be_v the_o raze_n up_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o earth_n or_o the_o most_o dreadful_a evil_n that_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n can_v imagine_v if_o god_n have_v say_v it_o his_o word_n must_v stand_v that_o must_v be_v effect_v rather_o than_o any_o reflection_n shall_v be_v upon_o the_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o god_n therefore_o say_v our_o lord_n jesus_n in_o luk._n 21.33_o heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v pass_v away_o but_o my_o word_n shall_v not_o pass_v away_o god_n stand_v so_o much_o upon_o his_o word_n that_o he_o will_v not_o give_v any_o on_o earth_n occasion_n to_o reflect_v upon_o he_o as_o unfaithful_a and_o want_v in_o his_o truth_n not_o the_o least_o jota_n or_o tittle_n of_o the_o lord_n word_n shall_v fail_v but_o shall_v be_v fulfil_v to_o every_o letter_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o mat._n 25.18_o it_o be_v thus_o write_v i_o say_v to_o you_o until_o heaven_n and_o earth_n pass_v away_o one_o jot_n or_o title_n shall_v in_o no_o wise_a pass_n from_o the_o law_n until_o all_o be_v fulfil_v the_o law_n be_v take_v here_o in_o a_o comprehensive_a sense_n for_o the_o whole_a book_n of_o scripture_n and_o heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v pass_v away_o but_o not_o one_o title_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v reveal_v shall_v be_v make_v void_a but_o shall_v stand_v and_o be_v accomplish_v and_o it_o be_v sufficient_o bind_v and_o confirm_v in_o that_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v it_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o scripture_n that_o god_n stand_v great_o upon_o his_o word_n what_o he_o speak_v touch_v a_o particular_a people_n or_o person_n he_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o accomplish_v it_o whether_o it_o be_v good_a or_o evil_n and_o therefore_o in_o gen._n 18._o it_o be_v say_v of_o abraham_n that_o he_o will_v command_v upon_o the_o outward_a man_n but_o when_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v sit_v in_o judgement_n he_o will_v judge_v both_o inward_a and_o outward_a man_n together_o he_o will_v reach_v the_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n and_o have_v to_o do_v with_o that_o present_a calamity_n light_v upon_o the_o outward_a man_n it_o be_v the_o body_n at_o the_o utmost_a be_v the_o seat_n of_o that_o there_o be_v many_o sore_a calamity_n that_o do_v not_o reach_v the_o body_n as_o the_o first_o distress_n that_o fall_v on_o job_n which_o be_v sore_a distress_n yet_o at_o first_o they_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o reach_v his_o body_n job_n 1.14_o 16._o there_o come_v a_o messenger_n that_o tell_v he_o his_o cattle_n be_v take_v etc._n etc._n these_o be_v sore_a distress_n sharp_a calamity_n but_o yet_o all_o this_o while_n the_o body_n of_o job_n be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o touch_v and_o also_o sometime_o calamity_n do_v reach_v the_o body_n the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o job_n himself_o david_n when_o many_o soul_n fall_v by_o that_o judgement_n by_o the_o plague_n and_o if_o it_o do_v so_o yet_o the_o dread_n of_o this_o be_v not_o like_a that_o that_o shall_v attend_v the_o come_n of_o christ_n he_o shall_v sit_v in_o judgement_n upon_o inward_a and_o outward_a man_n at_o once_o he_o shall_v reach_v the_o body_n as_o well_o as_o the_o soul_n at_o once_o and_o therefore_o be_v these_o the_o lord_n give_v they_o repentance_n or_o it_o be_v like_a to_o go_v very_o ill_o with_o they_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n in_o the_o use_n how_o desperate_a be_v the_o folly_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n well_o than_o soul_n let_v we_o look_v homeward_o what_o honourable_a mark_n have_v we_o upon_o we_o that_o may_v give_v we_o ground_n to_o hope_v we_o shall_v escape_v my_o friend_n i_o must_v deal_v faithful_o with_o you_o and_o let_v we_o consider_v if_o we_o shall_v be_v weigh_v in_o the_o balance_n what_o little_a reason_n may_v most_o of_o we_o have_v to_o hold_v up_o our_o head_n on_o high_a and_o to_o be_v find_v with_o confidence_n of_o a_o escape_n in_o such_o a_o day_n as_o this_o be_v dare_v we_o say_v we_o have_v some_o of_o these_o honourable_a mark_n upon_o we_o which_o god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o honour_n with_o preservation_n in_o time_n past_a it_o be_v not_o good_a to_o build_v a_o confidence_n too_o hasty_o but_o it_o be_v good_a to_o see_v upon_o what_o good_a ground_n we_o do_v conclude_v our_o preservation_n let_v i_o speak_v a_o little_a home_n to_o your_o conscience_n and_o ask_v your_o soul_n these_o question_n 1._o what_o sense_n have_v you_o upon_o your_o soul_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o generation_n among_o who_o you_o live_v it_o be_v a_o honourable_a character_n find_v upon_o lot_n that_o he_o be_v grieve_v with_o the_o filthy_a conversation_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o upon_o they_o in_o ezekiel_n that_o they_o do_v sigh_v and_o mourn_v for_o the_o abomination_n and_o the_o evil_a of_o that_o day_n now_o be_v this_o mark_n upon_o you_o that_o the_o great_a burden_n of_o your_o soul_n be_v the_o sin_n &_o wickedness_n of_o the_o day_n in_o which_o your_o lot_n be_v cast_v it_o be_v worth_a the_o consider_v and_o inquire_v into_o your_o heart_n about_o it_o but_o if_o you_o shall_v ask_v i_o how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o my_o heart_n be_v affect_v wiâ—h_v the_o abomination_n of_o the_o
