may_v be_v subject_a unto_o as_o that_o see_v our_o growth_n in_o grace_n be_v in_o such_o a_o manner_n and_o such_o a_o mystery_n therefore_o as_o even_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a growth_n in_o sleep_n so_o the_o spiritual_a man_n may_v grow_v in_o grace_n though_o he_o discern_v it_o not_o nay_o as_o usual_o in_o sickness_n there_o be_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o growth_n then_o at_o other_o time_n so_o even_o in_o those_o distemper_n and_o strange_a distress_n which_o may_v seem_v to_o threaten_v dissolution_n and_o utter_a wrack_n yet_o such_o be_v the_o singular_a wisdom_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n that_o even_o by_o these_o contrary_n he_o increase_v the_o spiritual_a thirst_n purge_v thereby_o the_o soul_n of_o such_o pester_v humour_n as_o hinder_v spiritual_a concoction_n and_o digestion_n and_o so_o quicken_a the_o appetite_n and_o stomach_n to_o spiritual_a nourishment_n and_o so_o clear_n &_o thin_a the_o vital_a blood_n for_o better_a distribution_n into_o each_o part_n whereby_o the_o flesh_n be_v not_o only_o renew_v as_o a_o young_a child_n but_o also_o enlarge_v and_o extend_v to_o further_a growth_n herein_o special_a comfort_n herein_o more_o particular_o hence_o ensue_v many_o special_a cordial_n in_o some_o such_o main_a and_o desperate_a extremity_n which_o do_v most_o appall_v and_o deject_v afflict_a spirit_n as_o sin_n 1._o in_o spiritual_a desertion_n of_o sin_n first_o in_o the_o case_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n and_o that_o either_o when_o the_o lord_n leave_v we_o to_o be_v overtake_v with_o some_o gross_a or_o fret_a sin_n which_o howsoever_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o challenge_v we_o of_o quench_v the_o spirit_n that_o so_o all_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v lose_v yet_o since_o this_o may_v fall_v out_o rather_o through_o our_o own_o negligence_n rather_o than_o wilfulness_n and_o rather_o by_o the_o violence_n of_o tentation_n than_o our_o own_o purpose_n and_o delight_v therein_o howsoever_o we_o may_v grieve_v the_o spirit_n by_o our_o carelessness_n and_o scandal_n follow_v thereupon_o and_o so_o deprive_v ourselves_o of_o the_o comfort_n thereof_o which_o now_o be_v not_o
the_o daily_a pardon_n of_o sin_n 3._o to_o advance_v his_o power_n in_o sustain_v we_o in_o our_o infirmity_n 4._o to_o glorify_v his_o wisdom_n in_o turn_v they_o about_o to_o our_o good_a 5._o to_o manifest_v his_o justice_n in_o chastize_v corruption_n 6._o and_o so_o reserve_v the_o glory_n of_o all_o these_o unto_o himself_o by_o convince_a our_o unworthiness_n in_o and_o by_o they_o all_o second_o in_o this_o state_n of_o imperfection_n the_o lord_n respect_v his_o child_n wonderful_o as_o 1._o hereby_o confirm_v our_o salvation_n unto_o we_o gracious_o by_o the_o daily_a experience_n a_o great_a watchfulness_n over_o sin_n and_o wisdom_n to_o prevent_v or_o subdue_v the_o same_o and_o so_o 3._o by_o this_o mean_n keep_v from_o apostasy_n and_o desperate_a evil_n which_o the_o wicfall_n into_o 4._o and_o so_o provoke_v out_o of_o the_o sense_n of_o our_o slip_n and_o backslide_a to_o make_v more_o haste_n to_o our_o journey_n end_n 5._o yea_o increase_a hereby_o our_o groan_n and_o sigh_n after_o our_o dissolution_n that_o we_o may_v be_v rid_v of_o sin_n rom._n 7.24_o 6._o comfort_v we_o in_o the_o experience_n of_o tentation_n and_o infirmity_n that_o still_o as_o we_o have_v need_n so_o we_o have_v interest_n in_o christ_n 7._o and_o so_o send_v we_o daily_o out_o of_o ourselves_o in_o the_o denial_n of_o our_o best_a righteousness_n to_o labour_v the_o acceptance_n of_o our_o person_n in_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n and_o so_o 8._o be_v refresh_v in_o he_o to_o hasten_v on_o to_o perfection_n 9_o make_v we_o thereby_o more_o compassionate_a of_o our_o brethren_n that_o so_o by_o gain_v and_o convert_n other_o we_o may_v profit_v ourselves_o and_o so_o 10._o wean_a we_o from_o the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n and_o such_o bait_n of_o sin_n as_o arise_v from_o thence_o 11._o and_o so_o humble_v daily_o under_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o god_n in_o endure_v patient_o whatsoever_o chastisement_n he_o lay_v upon_o we_o that_o so_o corruption_n be_v purge_v out_o we_o may_v be_v refine_v daily_o and_o prepare_v to_o glory_n 12._o hereby_o we_o be_v daily_o acquaint_v with_o the_o deepness_n of_o satan_n and_o so_o have_v more_o comfortable_a counterfeit_a holiness_n see_v in_o outward_a thing_n they_o seem_v to_o equal_v and_o go_v beyond_o we_o how_o do_v our_o infirmity_n become_v a_o occasion_n to_o excuse_v they_o in_o their_o profane_a wickedness_n see_v we_o be_v in_o semblance_n as_o bad_a as_o they_o these_o be_v some_o of_o the_o effect_n which_o arise_v from_o our_o imperfect_a state_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o wicked_a if_o we_o shall_v consider_v the_o consequent_n of_o this_o state_n of_o weakness_n that_o in_o regard_n hereof_o we_o be_v stranger_n in_o the_o world_n and_o traveller_n to_o our_o country_n which_o be_v above_o do_v not_o this_o imperfect_a condition_n fit_o sort_v hereunto_o do_v it_o not_o gracious_o further_o we_o both_o in_o the_o one_o and_o other_o concern_v our_o former_a condition_n that_o we_o be_v stranger_n in_o the_o world_n have_v not_o our_o wise_a god_n so_o dispose_v that_o general_o though_o we_o be_v adopt_v into_o the_o church_n yet_o we_o shall_v have_v our_o abode_n sometime_o in_o mesech_n and_o converse_v in_o the_o world_n as_o part_v of_o our_o dowry_n and_o jointure_n recover_v for_o we_o by_o christ_n and_o yet_o so_o use_v it_o as_o confirm_v in_o their_o precious_a faith_n and_o establish_v in_o christ_n and_o so_o in_o he_o more_o enlarge_v to_o the_o common_a good_a 1._o in_o relieve_v and_o confirm_v their_o brethren_n 2._o in_o discharge_v their_o calling_n with_o more_o faithfulness_n and_o profit_n 3._o as_o wean_v hereby_o from_o the_o world_n more_o gracious_o 4._o and_o provoke_v to_o hunger_n after_o their_o perfection_n and_o so_o all_o this_o to_o the_o main_a end_n even_o their_o salvation_n and_o yet_o in_o all_o these_o fail_n not_o want_v such_o special_a assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o sustain_v they_o in_o their_o fall_n and_o recovery_n out_o of_o they_o and_o so_o far_o different_a herein_o from_o the_o wicked_a and_o so_o thrive_a and_o benefit_v even_o in_o and_o by_o their_o fall_n that_o the_o saint_n in_o their_o great_a fall_n do_v much_o differ_v from_o the_o wicked_a appear_v by_o these_o thing_n first_o by_o their_o different_a entrance_n into_o they_o 2._o by_o their_o diverse_a carriage_n in_o they_o 3._o and_o three_o by_o the_o different_a issue_n thereof_o concern_v their_o entrance_n into_o gross_a evil_n the_o difference_n be_v 1._o that_o the_o if_o they_o be_v overtake_v with_o any_o it_o be_v against_o their_o main_a purpose_n either_o be_v carry_v thereto_o by_o some_o sudden_a allure_a object_n or_o violent_a tentation_n as_o neglect_v their_o watch_n and_o careless_a of_o the_o mean_n which_o shall_v preserve_v they_o therefrom_o whereas_o the_o wicked_a advise_o purpose_v before_o hand_n to_o commit_v they_o seek_v occasion_n thereto_o and_o wilful_o reject_v such_o mean_n as_o may_v hinder_v they_o therein_o esteem_v it_o their_o great_a cross_n to_o be_v impeach_v herein_o and_o account_v it_o their_o chief_a happiness_n to_o attain_v their_o desire_n therein_o thus_o they_o differ_v in_o the_o entrance_n so_o also_o in_o their_o proceed_n and_o lie_v therein_o the_o wicked_a labour_a continuance_n and_o increase_n therein_o by_o all_o kind_n of_o hide_v and_o nourish_v the_o same_o by_o excuse_v diminish_v deny_v cloak_v and_o such_o like_a that_o they_o may_v sleep_v secure_o therein_o but_o the_o saint_n as_o they_o be_v sensible_a of_o their_o fall_n by_o power_n of_o their_o renew_a conscience_n so_o do_v they_o labour_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o recover_v speedy_o again_o submitt_v to_o the_o mean_n hereunto_o though_o bitter_a to_o the_o flesh_n and_o never_o give_v over_o till_o they_o have_v reclaim_v themselves_o as_o be_v sustain_v inward_o by_o the_o spirit_n from_o security_n and_o despair_n therein_o and_o enable_v thereby_o in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n to_o a_o gracious_a recovery_n and_o this_o shall_v appear_v by_o the_o three_o difference_n namely_o the_o issue_n of_o these_o tentation_n as_o that_o though_o the_o wicked_a be_v still_o more_o inflame_v with_o the_o love_n of_o sin_n whether_o they_o continue_v therein_o or_o by_o age_n or_o other_o invincible_a accident_n be_v debar_v the_o act_n thereof_o and_o so_o be_v just_o punish_v with_o endless_a torment_n for_o their_o unsatiable_a desire_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o use_v all_o mean_n to_o lengthen_v out_o and_o increase_v their_o darling_n sin_n though_o it_o be_v with_o leave_v other_o or_o leave_v all_o good_a mean_n which_o may_v hinder_v they_o therein_o and_o so_o their_o bone_n be_v full_a of_o the_o sin_n of_o their_o youth_n and_o they_o go_v down_o with_o they_o to_o hell_n yet_o with_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o as_o they_o desire_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o forsake_v all_o sin_n so_o special_o do_v they_o labour_v against_o their_o master_n corruption_n such_o as_o by_o custom_n or_o calling_n they_o be_v most_o subject_a to_o and_o so_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n not_o only_o weaken_v the_o power_n of_o inward_a corruption_n daily_o but_o also_o get_v the_o mastery_n of_o such_o special_a evil_n and_o never_o fall_v into_o they_o again_o at_o least_o not_o in_o that_o measure_n and_o degree_n as_o former_o but_o with_o more_o loathe_v and_o less_o content_a with_o more_o humiliation_n and_o great_a contention_n more_o groan_v under_o the_o burden_n more_o shame_v of_o themselves_o more_o hunger_a after_o their_o dissolution_n this_o be_v once_o as_o they_o by_o experience_n of_o outward_a fail_n grow_v more_o acquaint_v with_o inward_a corruption_n and_o groan_n more_o earnest_o under_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n their_o native_a pollution_n and_o original_a shame_n so_o hereby_o do_v they_o make_v more_o conscience_n of_o inward_a
