and_o break_v your_o peace_n with_o god_n it_o may_v be_v and_o now_o your_o heart_n come_v to_o be_v weak_a you_o be_v like_o a_o sick_a man_n that_o cry_v out_o upon_o any_o thing_n one_o that_o be_v sick_a cry_n out_o upon_o every_o thing_n whereas_o if_o he_o be_v strong_a &_o healthful_a he_o can_v bear_v a_o hundred_o time_n more_o so_o you_o have_v bring_v a_o sickness_n upon_o your_o soul_n there_o be_v some_o sin_n that_o have_v prevail_v with_o the_o you_o prevail_v over_o you_o and_o by_o that_o have_v weaken_v your_o heart_n and_o your_o spirit_n now_o be_v weak_a you_o can_v bear_v nothing_o every_o thing_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n to_o you_o so_o that_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n come_v to_o be_v burdensome_a in_o this_o respect_n because_o it_o weaken_v the_o heart_n and_o make_v every_o thing_n burdensome_a to_o they_o two_o second_o the_o saint_n and_o people_n of_o god_n they_o account_v the_o privilege_n of_o corruption_n to_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n in_o this_o respect_n because_o they_o know_v that_o now_o they_o dishonour_v god_n especial_o if_o it_o prevail_v so_o as_o to_o break_v forth_o outward_o that_o it_o come_v to_o a_o outward_a actual_a sin_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a to_o one_o that_o be_v gracious_a for_o the_o name_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n suffer_v by_o this_o my_o sin_n that_o have_v prevail_v all_o the_o while_n sin_n be_v but_o stir_v in_o my_o heart_n and_o do_v not_o prevail_v the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v not_o that_o dishonour_n as_o now_o it_o have_v now_o when_o sin_n have_v prevail_v it_o dishonour_v god_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n unto_o the_o saint_n iii_o three_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n because_o it_o may_v be_v my_o holy_a profession_n be_v be_v a_o burden_n because_o hereby_o they_o come_v to_o be_v make_v useless_a in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v many_o though_o they_o may_v have_v some_o soundness_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o and_o may_v go_v to_o heaven_n at_o last_o yet_o their_o corruption_n prevail_v over_o they_o they_o come_v thereby_o to_o be_v very_o useless_a in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v they_o may_v live_v but_o themselves_o will_v be_v burden_n upon_o the_o earth_n for_o they_o be_v never_o like_a to_o be_v use_v to_o do_v any_o great_a service_n for_o god_n in_o the_o world_n they_o have_v so_o scandalize_v their_o profession_n by_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n v_o five_o when_o corruption_n prevail_v over_o the_o saint_n as_o it_o make_v they_o unprofitable_a so_o it_o make_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n exceed_v unprofitable_a too_o it_o harden_v there_o heart_n and_o they_o come_v to_o prayer_n hear_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o find_v little_a good_a many_o of_o you_o complain_v you_o find_v not_o profit_n by_o prayer_n and_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n such_o and_o such_o corruption_n have_v prevail_v over_o you_o it_o may_v be_v there_o be_v some_o sin_n that_o you_o live_v in_o that_o have_v prevail_v over_o you_o and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n you_o do_v not_o profit_v as_o you_o desire_v vi_o six_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o it_o be_v that_o that_o do_v extreme_o disturb_v one_o peace_n between_o god_n and_o our_o soul_n though_o there_o be_v many_o temptation_n yet_o if_o the_o heart_n can_v conquer_v they_o it_o have_v more_o peace_n by_o that_o mean_n never_o have_v the_o soul_n so_o much_o peace_n as_o when_o there_o have_v be_v strong_a temptation_n unto_o sin_n and_o a_o conquer_a over_o those_o temptation_n but_o if_o temptation_n conquer_v than_o there_o will_v be_v a_o disturbance_n of_o our_o peace_n and_o that_o be_v burdensome_a to_o those_o that_o do_v know_v what_o peace_n with_o god_n do_v mean_v vii_o seven_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n because_o it_o be_v that_o many_o time_n that_o shake_v the_o assurance_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a i_o know_v not_o what_o those_o man_n will_v make_v of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n if_o so_o be_v that_o they_o think_v whatsoever_o sin_n they_o fall_v into_o yet_o still_o they_o can_v keep_v up_o their_o assurance_n as_o much_o as_o before_o i_o say_v what_o will_v they_o make_v of_o that_o petition_n lord_n forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n at_o least_o to_o pray_v thus_o lord_n clear_o up_o the_o evidence_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o the_o fall_n into_o any_o sin_n and_o the_o prevail_a of_o any_o corruption_n must_v needs_o shake_v our_o assurance_n while_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n now_o be_v not_o this_o a_o
and_o earth_n upon_o the_o frame_n or_o keep_v it_o in_o be_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o appear_v more_o to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v heaven_n and_o earth_n in_o be_v than_o he_o do_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v grace_n alive_a in_o the_o heart_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n so_o that_o in_o this_o god_n have_v glory_n in_o another_o way_n than_o he_o have_v from_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o uphold_v of_o the_o angel_n for_o if_o he_o do_v not_o uphold_v they_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o evil_n as_o adam_n and_o the_o other_o angel_n do_v but_o therein_o appear_v god_n glorious_a power_n to_o uphold_v the_o angel_n but_o the_o glorious_a power_n in_o uphold_v the_o angel_n do_v not_o so_o much_o appear_v as_o the_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n in_o uphold_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o corruption_n this_o shall_v be_v a_o special_a argument_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v praise_v god_n for_o to_o all_o eternity_n when_o they_o shall_v look_v back_o and_o see_v what_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o before_o their_o conversion_n yea_o in_o their_o conversion_n that_o though_o god_n grant_v they_o some_o grace_n yet_o what_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n all_o that_o time_n and_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o stir_n they_o have_v to_o maintain_v that_o little_a grace_n they_o will_v stand_v and_o admire_v to_o consider_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o sin_n that_o a_o alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o toss_n of_o the_o wave_n you_o will_v grant_v here_o be_v a_o mighty_a power_n now_o the_o keep_v alive_a of_o grace_n in_o thy_o heart_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o so_o much_o corruption_n do_v argue_v as_o mighty_a a_o power_n in_o god_n 2._o the_o lord_n do_v so_o order_v it_o that_o still_o his_o own_o people_n shall_v be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o much_o coruption_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o that_o hereby_o the_o lord_n draw_v forth_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o his_o son_n in_o which_o his_o soul_n take_v infinite_a delight_n the_o soul_n of_o god_n take_v infinite_a delight_n in_o behold_v the_o work_n of_o the_o glorious_a grace_n of_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v say_v wherein_o do_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v so_o glorious_a in_o regard_n of_o our_o corruption_n thus_o for_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v eternal_o good_a to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o for_o a_o poor_a soul_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o his_o corruption_n yet_o to_o be_v able_a to_o triumph_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n notwithstanding_o i_o be_o so_o vild_a filthy_a loathsome_a and_o abominable_a to_o myself_o and_o just_o god_n and_o his_o saint_n may_v count_v i_o a_o burden_n to_o they_o and_o cast_v i_o off_o for_o ever_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o my_o soul_n shall_v cling_v to_o he_o i_o will_v cast_v myself_o upon_o he_o and_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o gracious_a father_n a_o merciful_a god_n a_o god_n that_o love_v i_o a_o god_n that_o rejoice_v in_o do_v good_a to_o i_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n only_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o mistake_v it_o for_o presumption_n object_n you_o will_v say_v for_o man_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o sin_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n mercy_n this_o be_v rather_o presumption_n than_o faith_n answ_n true_o it_o be_v presumpion_n in_o many_o they_o mistake_v themselves_o but_o in_o other_o it_o be_v true_a faith_n and_o god_n delight_v in_o it_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o this_o it_o do_v draw_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n never_o find_v such_o a_o prevalent_a way_n to_o overcome_v those_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o it_o as_o to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o mark_v the_o difference_n between_o presumption_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n presumption_n will_v trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n notwithstanding_o their_o sin_n but_o that_o do_v indeed_o foment_n their_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n make_v they_o the_o more_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v by_o the_o true_a geminine_a act_n of_o faith_n rest_n in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n if_o it_o be_v right_a such_o a_o soul_n feel_v no_o mean_n in_o the_o world_n of_o great_a efficacy_n to_o cure_v and_o prevail_v against_o corruption_n then_o this_o to_o trust_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n and_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o thus_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o fear_v trust_v in_o god_n grace_n with_o confidence_n for_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n and_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o and_o that_o which_o give_v as_o much_o content_n to_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o that_o regard_n because_o the_o saint_n shall_v never_o exercise_v such_o a_o act_n of_o faith_n in_o heaven_n â—s_v this_o god_n will_v have_v this_o in_o this_o world_n 3._o this_o be_v that_o that_o god_n see_v do_v drive_v his_o own_o people_n to_o he_o in_o prayer_n nothing_o drive_v the_o saint_n to_o god_n with_o more_o earnestness_n in_o prayer_n than_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o weight_n of_o corruption_n upon_o they_o than_o they_o go_v to_o god_n above_o all_o god_n never_o hear_v such_o strong_a cry_n come_v up_o to_o heaven_n in_o regard_n of_o any_o affliction_n as_o this_o and_o by_o the_o way_n you_o may_v find_v by_o this_o how_o your_o heart_n be_v when_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o you_o in_o affliction_n than_o you_o will_v cry_v to_o god_n but_o i_o put_v this_o to_o you_o have_v there_o not_o come_v as_o strong_a cry_n to_o heaven_n upon_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o corruption_n as_o upon_o the_o sense_n of_o any_o affliction_n whatsoever_o 4._o the_o lord_n have_v glory_n in_o this_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o humility_n the_o keep_v the_o soul_n of_o his_o people_n in_o humility_n and_o the_o contrition_n of_o their_o spirit_n that_o be_v exceed_o please_a to_o god_n the_o lord_n be_v near_o to_o a_o break_a contrite_a heart_n a_o melt_a mourn_a spirit_n the_o lord_n do_v delight_n in_o the_o evangelical_a work_n of_o repentance_n this_o please_v the_o lord_n the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourning_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n be_v a_o grace_n that_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n god_n shall_v have_v none_o of_o that_o in_o heaven_n and_o he_o have_v it_o therefore_o here_o 5._o god_n hereby_o exercise_v his_o wisdom_n exceed_o in_o bring_v light_n out_o of_o darkeness_n god_n do_v many_o time_n turn_v not_o only_o the_o affliction_n of_o his_o people_n to_o their_o good_a but_o he_o work_v good_a many_o time_n out_o of_o sin_n not_o that_o hereby_o we_o shall_v be_v bold_a and_o presumptuous_a in_o our_o sin_n we_o must_v take_v head_n of_o tempt_a god_n yet_o know_v this_o that_o god_n do_v many_o time_n work_v exceed_v much_o good_a unto_o the_o saint_n even_o out_o fountain_n of_o all_o good_a christ_n be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o cistern_n into_o which_o all_o the_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n be_v to_o be_v convey_v and_o believer_n by_o faith_n have_v every_o one_o a_o pipe_n as_o it_o be_v put_v into_o this_o cistern_n so_o they_o come_v to_o have_v convey_v all_o good_a the_o fullness_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n they_o be_v unite_v unto_o please_v with_o thou_o and_o shall_v take_v delight_n in_o thou_o as_o his_o own_o thou_o may_v walk_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o all_o because_o he_o see_v thou_o in_o christ_n what_o do_v thou_o think_v that_o mercy_n be_v worth_a that_o cost_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n thou_o think_v thou_o be_v a_o great_a sinner_n and_o that_o it_o must_v be_v wonderful_a mercy_n that_o must_v save_v thy_o soul_n it_o be_v true_a and_o it_o be_v well_o thou_o think_v so_o but_o now_o consider_v further_a sinner_n what_o do_v thou_o think_v of_o the_o mercy_n that_o shall_v be_v as_o much_o worth_n as_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o he_o to_o be_v make_v a_o curse_n for_o sinner_n will_v that_o do_v it_o if_o that_o will_v do_v it_o thou_o may_v come_v to_o he_o how_o much_o do_v thou_o think_v the_o mercy_n of_o christ_n come_v to_o take_v man_n nature_n upon_o he_o be_v worth_a to_o take_v our_o sinful_a nature_n upon_o he_o if_o he_o upon_o these_o term_n because_o he_o be_v not_o so_o vile_a as_o another_o man_n as_o thus_o here_o be_v one_o that_o be_v thus_o vile_a here_o be_v another_o that_o be_v not_o altogether_o so_o vile_a i_o will_v receive_v he_o upon_o this_o ground_n because_o he_o be_v not_o so_o vile_a this_o be_v never_o the_o ground_n but_o when_o he_o receive_v they_o he_o receive_v they_o upon_o free_a grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o how_o vile_a thou_o be_v for_o that_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o christ_n to_o save_v vile_a creature_n and_o he_o save_v none_o but_o those_o that_o come_v as_o beggar_n those_o that_o come_v and_o do_v see_v themselves_o as_o vile_a wretched_a worthless_a unworthy_a miserable_a damn_a dust_n and_o ash_n in_o themselves_o only_o such_o be_v object_n for_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v set_v upon_o rather_o make_v it_o a_o argument_n to_o drive_v thou_o more_o to_o he_o as_o david_n do_v in_o the_o 25._o psalm_n o_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o that_o thy_o heart_n can_v think_v of_o o_o the_o great_a embrace_n by_o jesus_n christ_n of_o those_o soul_n that_o come_v to_o he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o very_a reason_n why_o poor_a sinner_n at_o their_o first_o conversion_n have_v their_o heart_n so_o fill_v with_o joy_n because_o at_o their_o first_o come_v to_o christ_n christ_n do_v give_v they_o such_o wonderful_a embracement_n till_o they_o come_v to_o be_v more_o strengthen_v and_o then_o perhaps_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o live_v rather_o by_o faith_n than_o by_o sense_n it_o be_v in_o the_o new_a birth_n as_o in_o the_o birth_n of_o nature_n child_n when_o they_o be_v first_o bear_v they_o shoot_v up_o mighty_o take_v a_o child_n that_o come_v very_o little_a out_o of_o the_o womb_n come_v to_o it_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n after_o the_o child_n be_v shoot_v up_o a_o great_a deal_n you_o may_v see_v it_o a_o great_a deal_n tall_a and_o big_a every_o limb_n increase_v but_o take_v it_o at_o ten_o year_n old_a and_o it_o grow_v not_o so_o much_o then_o as_o at_o the_o first_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o it_o come_v out_o of_o the_o worm_n womb_n it_o can_v not_o subsist_v if_o nature_n do_v not_o hasten_v to_o strengthen_v itself_o at_o first_o so_o man_n when_o they_o come_v to_o christ_n at_o first_o they_o shoot_v up_o and_o grow_v to_o such_o enlargement_n of_o spirit_n and_o they_o do_v so_o sensible_o perceive_v yea_o and_o other_o do_v so_o sensible_o perceive_v a_o great_a growth_n at_o their_o first_o come_v than_o afterward_o because_o when_o they_o first_o come_v christ_n will_v strengthen_v they_o against_o all_o discouragement_n christ_n will_v use_v you_o tender_o christ_n will_v not_o upbraid_v you_o for_o your_o former_a sin_n and_o say_v what!_o you_o that_o have_v live_v a_o profane_a life_n a_o profaner_n of_o my_o ordinance_n a_o scorner_n at_o my_o way_n and_o at_o my_o people_n christ_n will_v not_o upbraid_v the_o soul_n but_o he_o will_v be_v render_v of_o you_o he_o will_v pass_v by_o your_o sin_n and_o heal_v your_o weakness_n he_o will_v not_o break_v the_o bruise_a reed_n nor_o quench_v the_o smoke_a flax._n arg._n viii_o eight_o further_n consider_v the_o infinite_a need_n thy_o soul_n have_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o that_o shall_v drive_v thou_o to_o he_o if_o the_o other_o argument_n do_v not_o draw_v thou_o oh_o let_v that_o drive_v thou_o to_o jesus_n christ_n thou_o be_v a_o undo_v creature_n for_o ever_o without_o jesus_n christ_n all_o the_o mercy_n in_o heaven_n can_v do_v thou_o no_o good_a the_o great_a conveyer_n of_o all_o good_a from_o god_n to_o we_o but_o also_o all_o that_o come_v to_o we_o from_o god_n must_v go_v through_o he_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v cause_n thou_o shall_v hasten_v to_o christ_n and_o never_o be_v at_o quiet_a all_o thy_o life_n till_o thou_o have_v some_o comfortable_a evidence_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v close_v with_o jesus_n christ_n there_o be_v a_o infinite_a necessity_n because_o all_o ordinance_n duty_n service_n whatever_o thou_o do_v do_v thou_o no_o good_a till_o thou_o come_v to_o christ_n arg._n ix_o nine_o yea_o further_o christ_n be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o all_o the_o creature_n one_o day_n will_v see_v a_o need_n of_o he_o yea_o all_o that_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o shall_v see_v a_o need_n of_o he_o and_o they_o shall_v curse_v themselves_o that_o when_o they_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v call_v to_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o yet_o notwithstanding_o they_o will_v satisfy_v themselves_o in_o the_o lust_n of_o their_o spirit_n christ_n come_v from_o heaven_n once_o to_o we_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n but_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v come_v again_o in_o his_o glory_n with_o all_o his_o angel_n all_o his_o saint_n about_o he_o and_o then_o how_o happy_a will_v those_o appear_v that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o life_n when_o they_o be_v call_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n when_o christ_n come_v thus_o in_o his_o glory_n perhaps_o you_o will_v then_o all_o go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n no_o friend_n if_o you_o will_v stay_v till_o then_o you_o will_v heaâ—_n another_o voice_n from_o christ_n he_o will_v not_o come_v to_o call_v sinner_n to_o come_v to_o he_o then_o but_o he_o will_v come_v to_o bid_v they_o depart_v from_o he_o for_o all_o that_o the_o father_n give_v he_o do_v come_v to_o he_o before_o then_o arg._n x._o yea_o and_o yet_o further_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o this_o that_o while_o you_o have_v hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o a_o poor_a minister_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n to_o call_v you_o unto_o he_o to_o draw_v you_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o if_o you_o shall_v reject_v this_o invitation_n and_o other_o invitation_n that_o you_o have_v by_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n know_v that_o of_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o you_o commit_v in_o all_o your_o life_n this_o will_v prove_v to_o be_v the_o great_a that_o you_o have_v stand_v
out_o against_o this_o invitation_n it_o be_v that_o that_o will_v aggravate_v all_o your_o sin_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o may_v think_v well_o this_o be_v a_o encouragement_n to_o sinner_n we_o be_v call_v to_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v tell_v that_o the_o vile_a may_v come_v to_o he_o and_o christ_n will_v receive_v they_o this_o be_v well_o but_o yet_o if_o thou_o will_v reject_v this_o invitation_n and_o shall_v yet_o let_v out_o thy_o heart_n to_o other_o vanity_n and_o to_o the_o satisfy_n of_o thy_o sinful_a lust_n this_o i_o say_v this_o invitation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n will_v be_v the_o great_a aggravation_n of_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o commit_v in_o all_o thy_o life_n thy_o whoredom_n thy_o drunkenness_n thy_o swear_n all_o thy_o sabbath_n break_v will_v not_o be_v so_o heavy_a upon_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v so_o deep_a upon_o the_o score_n as_o one_o rejection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n call_v thou_o to_o come_v to_o he_o and_o therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o abuse_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n in_o call_v you_o to_o come_v to_o he_o for_o know_v if_o there_o can_v be_v any_o sign_n give_v to_o know_v who_o be_v reprobate_n and_o who_o not_o i_o will_v rather_o pitch_v upon_o this_o sign_n one_o that_o shall_v go_v away_o after_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v open_v to_o he_o and_o he_o invite_v to_o come_v to_o christ_n one_o that_o shall_v go_v away_o notwithstanding_o harden_v in_o sin_n i_o say_v i_o shall_v rather_o pitch_v upon_o this_o than_o any_o other_o sign_n there_o be_v no_o sin_n harden_v the_o heart_n of_o god_n more_o than_o this_o i_o will_v give_v you_o one_o scripture_n for_o this_o in_o luke_n 14.16_o 17._o when_o god_n as_o the_o master_n of_o the_o great_a feast_n send_v his_o servant_n and_o invite_v man_n to_o come_v to_o the_o wedding_n that_o be_v in_o truth_n to_o do_v that_o that_o i_o have_v be_v do_v all_o this_o while_n to_o invite_v poor_a sinner_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n now_o divers_a make_v excuse_n some_o have_v bouhgt_v ox_n other_o have_v buy_v farm_n and_o other_o have_v marry_v wife_n well_o mark_v at_o the_o 24._o verse_n the_o doom_n of_o those_o that_o do_v not_o come_v in_o upon_o their_o invitation_n very_o say_v god_n those_o man_n that_o be_v bid_v shall_v never_o taste_v of_o my_o supper_n what!_o say_v god_n to_o his_o servant_n have_v you_o invite_v they_o to_o come_v in_o and_o will_v they_o not_o no_o they_o have_v other_o thing_n in_o their_o head_n their_o farm_n their_o yoke_n of_o ox_n their_o profit_n and_o pleasure_n what_o will_v they_o reject_v such_o grace_n and_o favour_n when_o i_o invite_v they_o to_o come_v to_o the_o marriage_n of_o my_o son_n very_o say_v god_n they_o shall_v never_o have_v any_o good_a by_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o it_o be_v a_o dreadful_a doom_n to_o be_v pass_v upon_o any_o soul_n god_n forbid_v it_o shall_v be_v pass_v upon_o any_o soul_n and_o yet_o when_o we_o come_v to_o open_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n we_o can_v speak_v of_o it_o without_o tremble_a heart_n without_o fear_n lest_o some_o shall_v be_v harden_v and_o so_o god_n provoke_v by_o their_o resist_n of_o thiâ—_n grace_n of_o he_o this_o man_n and_o this_o woman_n that_o sit_v upon_o such_o a_o stool_n that_o be_v not_o take_v with_o this_o grace_n of_o god_n before_o that_o infinite_a grace_n of_o he_o and_o shall_v admire_v it_o and_o their_o heart_n shall_v be_v take_v with_o it_o and_o they_o shall_v join_v with_o he_o and_o say_v oh_o lord_n we_o come_v and_o our_o heart_n do_v close_o with_o this_o bountifulness_n of_o thou_o in_o thy_o son_n &_o the_o neglect_n of_o our_o not_o profit_v by_o such_o sermon_n and_o cast_v out_o what_o we_o so_o to_o do_v for_o we_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o christ_n so_o as_o christ_n propound_v himself_o unto_o we_o not_o only_o lawful_a i_o say_v to_o look_v upon_o christ_n so_o as_o he_o propound_v himself_o to_o we_o but_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n so_o to_o look_v upon_o he_o now_o when_o christ_n propound_v himself_o unto_o we_o as_o a_o object_n to_o draw_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o he_o do_v propound_v himself_o as_o one_o wherein_o our_o soul_n shall_v gain_v abundance_n of_o good_a one_o that_o we_o shall_v get_v much_o by_o now_o though_o it_o be_v true_a we_o shall_v labour_n to_o be_v above_o ourselves_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v labour_n to_o deny_v ourselves_o in_o some_o sense_n yet_o not_o so_o but_o that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v at_o our_o own_o good_a even_o in_o our_o come_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n
of_o the_o covenant_n this_o may_v seem_v difficult_a to_o some_o and_o that_o be_v this_o that_o all_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o heaven_n can_v be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o rest_n of_o any_o soul_n but_o through_o a_o mediator_n in_o christ_n the_o soul_n must_v be_v bring_v to_o this_o mercy_n by_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n the_o mediator_n thou_o must_v first_o come_v to_o christ_n the_o mediator_n before_o thou_o can_v have_v any_o rest_n even_o in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n itself_o you_o must_v know_v and_o if_o you_o know_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n you_o must_v know_v this_o that_o though_o god_n be_v a_o infinite_a current_n of_o mercy_n yet_o all_o the_o current_n of_o god_n mercy_n be_v stop_v by_o man_n sin_n so_o as_o it_o can_v only_o be_v open_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o thou_o must_v know_v god_n in_o christ_n and_o you_o must_v know_v how_o you_o come_v unto_o god_n in_o and_o through_o christ_n before_o you_o can_v rest_v upon_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n this_o be_v that_o which_o do_v undo_v many_o soul_n those_o that_o be_v of_o the_o better_a sort_n they_o think_v to_o rely_v upon_o god_n mercy_n think_v to_o rest_v in_o that_o and_o that_o be_v a_o sure_a rest_n to_o their_o soul_n but_o they_o little_o understand_v how_o all_o the_o current_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n be_v stop_v and_o there_o be_v no_o come_n to_o it_o but_o by_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n other_o they_o will_v say_v they_o do_v many_o good_a thing_n they_o do_v many_o good_a action_n they_o serve_v god_n and_o they_o rest_v in_o this_o they_o do_v not_o commit_v the_o gross_a sin_n of_o the_o world_n and_o they_o do_v perform_v duty_n they_o pray_v in_o their_o family_n and_o in_o their_o closert_n &_o this_o be_v that_o they_o rest_v in_o but_o the_o rest_n of_o a_o immortal_a soul_n must_v have_v a_o better_a foundation_n than_o this_o than_o all_o the_o duty_n than_o all_o the_o sorrow_n for_o their_o sin_n than_o all_o that_o god_n himself_o work_v in_o they_o it_o must_v be_v somewhat_o without_o they_o that_o must_v be_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o nothing_o wrought_v in_o we_o no_o not_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o we_o can_v be_v rest_n to_o our_o soul_n it_o must_v be_v the_o perfect_a righteousness_n of_o a_o mediator_n though_o it_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o by_o faith_n can_v be_v rest_n to_o our_o soul_n yet_o nothing_o in_o we_o so_o that_o you_o may_v mistake_v and_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o formal_a manner_n but_o suppose_v you_o perform_v they_o in_o a_o gracious_a manner_n yet_o you_o must_v not_o rest_v in_o they_o you_o must_v go_v high_a than_o all_o the_o best_a duty_n that_o ever_o you_o perform_v wo_n to_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n if_o they_o have_v no_o other_o rest_n but_o what_o their_o duty_n bring_v they_o you_o must_v look_v high_a than_o whatever_o you_o be_v or_o can_v be_v enable_v to_o do_v for_o your_o rest_n you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v there_o that_o can_v be_v high_o than_o what_o we_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v by_o god_n there_o be_v a_o righteousness_n in_o jesus_n christ_n by_o which_o you_o must_v come_v there_o be_v a_o insufficiency_n in_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n to_o give_v rest_n and_o yet_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o world_n make_v all_o their_o rest_n in_o these_o thing_n much_o may_v be_v speak_v concern_v the_o danger_n of_o this_o and_o much_o of_o the_o sign_n when_o our_o soul_n have_v true_a rest_n in_o christ_n but_o we_o shall_v meet_v with_o that_o in_o the_o other_o point_n in_o handle_v the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n i_o will_v therefore_o pass_v over_o this_o about_o the_o insufficiency_n of_o the_o rest_n in_o all_o other_o thing_n only_o with_o this_o one_o thing_n know_v this_o that_o that_o heart_n that_o be_v touch_v with_o jesus_n christ_n as_o the_o iron_n be_v with_o the_o loadstone_n can_v never_o be_v quiet_a either_o in_o creature_n comfort_n or_o in_o hope_n of_o mercy_n or_o in_o any_o duty_n or_o performance_n it_o can_v never_o be_v quiet_a till_o it_o get_v union_n with_o jesus_n christ_n just_o as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o needle_n that_o be_v touch_v with_o a_o loadstone_n shake_v it_o which_o way_n you_o will_v it_o will_v never_o be_v at_o rest_n till_o it_o come_v to_o the_o north_n and_o when_o it_o get_v north_n than_o it_o stand_v there_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v touch_v with_o jesus_n christ_n there_o be_v the_o touch_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o jesus_n christ_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o believer_n and_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v but_o touch_v with_o jesus_n christ_n it_o shake_v be_v full_o of_o fear_n and_o doubt_n and_o offer_v it_o this_o creature_n comfort_n and_o the_o other_o creature_n comfort_n it_o will_v not_o do_v it_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o at_o rest_n but_o now_o when_o there_o be_v the_o manifestation_n of_o christ_n unto_o the_o soul_n let_v they_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n where_o some_o bless_a promise_n to_o the_o gospel_n be_v open_v to_o they_o and_o jesus_n christ_n heart_n be_v full_a of_o terror_n fear_n and_o doubt_n and_o i_o seek_v for_o rest_n and_o ease_n in_o this_o and_o the_o other_o creature_n comfort_n and_o can_v not_o find_v it_o but_o now_o christ_n be_v make_v know_v to_o i_o and_o here_o be_v the_o rest_n of_o my_o soul_n it_o be_v true_a godly_a people_n may_v be_v trouble_v for_o a_o while_n but_o it_o be_v as_o the_o trouble_n of_o the_o shake_n of_o a_o needle_n in_o the_o compass_n and_o other_o man_n they_o be_v trouble_v too_o there_o be_v some_o people_n trouble_v in_o conscience_n for_o their_o sin_n they_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n and_o hear_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n open_v and_o god_n meet_v with_o their_o particular_a sin_n some_o secret_a sin_n that_o they_o live_v in_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o they_o shake_v too_o i_o but_o they_o be_v like_o a_o fall_v needle_n not_o right_o touch_v that_o shake_v as_o the_o other_o do_v but_o it_o will_v stand_v at_o any_o point_n do_v but_o put_v it_o this_o way_n or_o that_o way_n and_o it_o will_v stand_v here_o and_o there_o will_v mariner_n give_v any_o thing_n for_o such_o a_o needle_n that_o will_v stand_v at_o this_o point_n and_o the_o other_o point_n so_o it_o be_v with_o wicked_a man_n when_o they_o be_v trouble_v the_o devil_n the_o world_n and_o their_o corruption_n come_v and_o quiet_a their_o conscience_n out_o of_o christ_n and_o so_o indeed_o this_o hinder_v they_o from_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n because_o they_o find_v quiet_a some_o where_o else_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v trouble_v but_o their_o trouble_n and_o shake_n in_o the_o world_n be_v like_o the_o trouble_n of_o a_o ship_n that_o be_v in_o the_o haven_n at_o shore_n that_o lie_v at_o anchor_n a_o ship_n that_o lie_v at_o anchor_n though_o the_o wave_n toss_v it_o up_o and_o down_o yet_o it_o be_v toss_v up_o and_o down_o at_o anchor_n so_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n for_o all_o the_o world_n between_o all_o the_o trouble_n of_o the_o saint_n and_o the_o trouble_n of_o ungodly_a man_n now_o when_o you_o have_v a_o ship_n at_o sea_n and_o have_v no_o anchor_n and_o the_o storm_n drive_v it_o any_o way_n when_o there_o come_v a_o mighty_a tempest_n and_o hurry_v it_o up_o and_o down_o and_o you_o do_v not_o know_v but_o you_o may_v light_v upon_o a_o rock_n and_o be_v split_v you_o be_v trouble_v but_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v at_o anchor_n and_o you_o count_v yourselves_o at_o rest_n though_o you_o be_v toss_v by_o the_o wave_n when_o you_o be_v at_o anchor_n chap._n xxviii_o of_o the_o rest_n that_o a_o believer_n have_v by_o christ_n from_o the_o gild_n of_o sin_n lay_v out_o in_o ten_o particular_n 1._o

that_o come_v to_o he_o that_o their_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n shall_v he_o accept_v of_o god_n as_o performance_n now_o this_o be_v a_o bless_a estate_n five_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o christ_n as_o it_o have_v reference_n to_o deliverance_n from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o now_o all_o the_o duty_n that_o god_n require_v at_o thy_o hand_n be_v mercy_n of_o god_n rom._n 12.1_o that_o you_o give_v up_o yourselves_o a_o live_a sacrifice_n holy_a and_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n which_o be_v your_o reasonable_a service_n we_o beseech_v you_o by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n now_o the_o bondslave_n that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n they_o have_v not_o duty_n require_v of_o they_o by_o such_o cord_n and_o bond_n of_o love_n but_o if_o thou_o that_o come_v from_o the_o law_n they_o be_v trouble_v but_o yet_o there_o remain_v much_o hardness_n in_o their_o heart_n much_o peevishness_n and_o frowardness_n against_o god_n and_o against_o man_n you_o shall_v find_v in_o many_o people_n who_o have_v trouble_v of_o conscience_n yet_o there_o be_v much_o peevishness_n and_o frowardness_n in_o they_o against_o god_n and_o against_o man_n now_o when_o you_o see_v this_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n manifest_v in_o their_o expression_n way_n and_o conversation_n remember_v the_o stone_n that_o you_o see_v upon_o pavement_n in_o wet_a wether_n they_o give_v and_o may_v be_v water_n trickle_v down_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o they_o remain_v hard_o still_o but_o now_o when_o the_o gospel_n come_v it_o do_v not_o only_o cause_v prayer_n and_o your_o thought_n be_v take_v up_o whole_o with_o the_o duty_n that_o you_o be_v perform_v than_o you_o think_v you_o have_v some_o comfort_n but_o when_o you_o have_v any_o wander_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n than_o it_o be_v quicken_v enliven_v and_o work_v you_o that_o labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a lade_v you_o that_o feel_v the_o weight_n of_o sin_n upon_o your_o soul_n and_o know_v not_o what_o in_o the_o world_n to_o do_v come_v you_o to_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o you_o that_o labour_v under_o the_o power_n of_o any_o corruption_n not_o only_o under_o the_o gild_n of_o your_o sin_n but_o under_o the_o power_n of_o corruption_n that_o feel_v your_o sin_n strong_a in_o you_o and_o you_o will_v fain_o get_v the_o mastery_n of_o they_o you_o that_o carry_v about_o with_o you_o such_o a_o weight_n as_o make_v you_o to_o cry_v out_o with_o st._n paul_n oh_o wretched_a man_n or_o woman_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n you_o that_o will_v fain_o overcome_v those_o strong_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o you_o and_o it_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n of_o your_o soul_n that_o you_o can_v overcome_v they_o come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n from_o they_o also_o first_o you_o that_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o duty_n and_o find_v they_o toilsome_a second_o you_o that_o labour_n under_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n and_o find_v your_o soul_n perplex_v by_o it_o three_o you_o that_o labour_v under_o the_o power_n of_o any_o corruption_n and_o can_v overcome_v it_o come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v and_o then_o the_o burden_n of_o affliction_n four_o you_o that_o labour_v under_o any_o outward_a trouble_n or_o affliction_n in_o this_o world_n all_o you_o that_o be_v in_o any_o sad_a condition_n that_o have_v any_o burden_n upon_o you_o outward_o if_o you_o come_v to_o christ_n he_o will_v ease_v you_o of_o they_o though_o perhaps_o he_o will_v not_o take_v they_o from_o you_o though_o you_o may_v be_v under_o the_o affliction_n as_o before_o yet_o you_o shall_v have_v rest_n and_o ease_v in_o they_o have_v you_o any_o burden_n of_o poverty_n have_v you_o any_o burden_n in_o your_o child_n have_v you_o any_o burden_n in_o your_o yoke_n fellow_n or_o burden_n by_o reason_n of_o weakness_n in_o body_n if_o you_o will_v have_v rest_n you_o must_v go_v for_o it_o to_o chirst_n many_o when_o they_o be_v under_o any_o outward_a affliction_n they_o go_v no_o further_o than_o the_o creature_n for_o rest_n oh_o if_o i_o have_v but_o good_a friend_n i_o shall_v be_v happy_a or_o if_o i_o have_v but_o a_o estate_n i_o shall_v be_v well_o but_o if_o thy_o poverty_n do_v work_v upon_o thy_o heart_n kind_o it_o will_v drive_v thou_o to_o chest_n and_o make_v thou_o to_o say_v true_a i_o be_o poor_a in_o this_o world_n but_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o christ_n to_o make_v i_o rich_a there_o be_v mercy_n enough_o in_o christ_n to_o make_v my_o life_n comfortable_a to_o make_v i_o who_o be_o for_o the_o present_a in_o a_o miserable_a condition_n happy_a for_o ever_o those_o that_o be_v poor_a outward_o they_o shall_v go_v to_o christ_n if_o their_o poverty_n do_v drive_v they_o to_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o the_o lord_n do_v sanctify_v their_o poverty_n unto_o they_o now_o because_o all_o these_o burden_n if_o they_o be_v handle_v distinct_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n the_o burden_n show_v how_o christ_n call_v those_o that_o be_v under_o these_o to_o himself_o will_v take_v up_o much_o time_n therefore_o i_o will_v pitch_v upon_o the_o second_o at_o present_a and_o handle_v that_o more_o thorough_o and_o that_o be_v the_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n you_o that_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o gild_n of_o sin_n come_v to_o i_o indeed_o chap._n iii_o the_o burden_n under_o sin_n lay_v open_a in_o nine_o particular_n 1._o when_o the_o soul_n not_o only_o apprehend_v but_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n in_o the_o reality_n of_o it_o 2._o find_v all_o the_o comfort_n that_o do_v attend_v sin_n before_o to_o vanish_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o 3._o look_v upon_o itself_o as_o loathsome_a and_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n bow_v to_o god_n 4._o tremble_v at_o the_o least_o thought_n and_o temptation_n to_o sin_n 5._o feel_v sin_n heavy_a
yet_o all_o this_o will_v not_o satisfy_v for_o what_o be_v past_a many_o when_o they_o have_v sin_v and_o their_o conscience_n be_v a_o little_a awake_v for_o it_o than_o they_o think_v to_o live_v better_a and_o to_o do_v otherwise_o afterward_o as_o if_o they_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o what_o be_v do_v before_o but_o you_o must_v know_v that_o this_o be_v a_o mere_a deceit_n and_o will_v not_o satisfy_v you_o must_v come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n you_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o or_o otherwise_o all_o that_o you_o can_v do_v will_v never_o make_v amends_o you_o will_v say_v if_o we_o can_v make_v amends_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o it_o be_v true_a if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o saviour_n a_o christ_n our_o condition_n be_v sad_a certain_o amends_o must_v be_v make_v but_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o ever_o you_o can_v make_v amends_o and_o this_o you_o must_v think_v of_o you_o must_v not_o only_o think_v of_o what_o you_o be_v bind_v to_o which_o be_v past_a this_o will_v burden_v the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n will_v feel_v upon_o this_o such_o a_o burden_n that_o nothing_o in_o the_o world_n can_v give_v it_o rest_v tell_v it_o come_v to_o christ_n if_o we_o do_v apprehend_v this_o we_o will_v see_v that_o our_o condition_n out_o of_o christ_n be_v a_o restless_a condition_n and_o this_o invitation_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v very_o acceptable_a now_o because_o i_o be_v loath_a to_o tell_v you_o of_o rest_n before_o i_o have_v open_v a_o little_a this_o burden_n for_o otherwise_o you_o may_v say_v as_o those_o jew_n do_v to_o christ_n in_o a_o other_o case_n when_o christ_n tell_v they_o if_o the_o son_n make_v they_o free_a they_o shall_v be_v free_a indeed_o why_o say_v they_o be_v we_o bind_v to_o any_o man_n it_o be_v in_o john_n 8.32_o why_o do_v you_o talk_v of_o freedom_n to_o we_o if_o i_o shall_v have_v go_v on_o in_o the_o invitation_n come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v come_v to_o christ_n why_o what_o restless_a condition_n be_v we_o in_o you_o may_v have_v say_v but_o now_o when_o you_o see_v your_o restless_a condition_n than_o i_o suppose_v you_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o harken_v to_o the_o invitation_n come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v those_o thing_n will_v make_v you_o to_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n repentance_n shall_v not_o be_v accept_v of_o i_o do_v not_o say_v absolute_o that_o god_n will_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n but_o i_o say_v that_o the_o law_n will_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n repentance_n be_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o law_n preach_v no_o such_o doctrine_n as_o the_o doctrine_n of_o repentance_n it_o be_v a_o evangelical_a doctrine_n but_o now_o repentance_n that_o be_v mere_o trouble_v of_o conscience_n that_o i_o see_v myself_o in_o such_o danger_n of_o the_o law_n this_o may_v be_v a_o natural_a repentance_n and_o not_o evangelical_a evangelical_a when_o you_o do_v think_v of_o repent_v of_o your_o sin_n this_o be_v a_o save_a meditation_n for_o you_o to_o think_v of_o your_o repentance_n thus_o i_o be_o now_o sorry_a and_o repent_v and_o be_o humble_v for_o my_o sin_n i_o but_o this_o be_v through_o a_o second_o covenant_n through_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o this_o can_v be_v accept_v it_o be_v infinite_a regard_n of_o the_o confuse_a disorder_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o motion_n of_o their_o corruption_n there_o be_v much_o disorder_n and_o confusion_n in_o the_o heart_n when_o corruption_n do_v stir_v which_o cause_v much_o disturbance_n what_o cause_v more_o disturbance_n in_o a_o state_n in_o a_o family_n in_o a_o town_n then_o confusion_n and_o disorder_n nothing_o be_v more_o disorderly_a and_o confuse_a then_o the_o corruption_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o therefore_o burdensome_a it_o cause_v much_o perplexity_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n because_o they_o find_v their_o corruption_n work_v and_o stir_v in_o such_o a_o confuse_a way_n they_o find_v sometime_o when_o they_o be_v in_o duty_n such_o strange_a confuse_a work_v of_o their_o heart_n that_o it_o be_v much_o corruption_n stir_v many_o time_n yet_o if_o i_o can_v but_o be_v free_a when_o i_o get_v alone_o to_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n o_o that_o it_o will_v let_v i_o alone_o at_o that_o time_n and_o so_o though_o i_o find_v it_o stir_v at_o other_o time_n yet_o if_o it_o will_v let_v i_o alone_o at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n but_o it_o come_v at_o that_o time_n especial_o you_o will_v have_v evil_a thought_n at_o prayer_n more_o than_o ever_o you_o have_v and_o at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n light_a work_n of_o spirit_n more_o than_o at_o other_o time_n and_o not_o only_o at_o the_o word_n but_o if_o there_o be_v but_o one_o truth_n that_o do_v more_o near_o concern_v the_o good_a of_o your_o soul_n then_o another_o you_o shall_v find_v your_o corruption_n to_o hinder_v you_o then_o more_o than_o at_o another_o time_n and_o so_o at_o the_o sacrament_n and_o fast_v there_o it_o will_v be_v more_o work_v then_o at_o another_o time_n 6._o yea_o and_o further_o if_o there_o be_v any_o time_n that_o through_o god_n mercy_n in_o a_o day_n of_o prayer_n fast_v and_o the_o like_a if_o you_o can_v get_v your_o heart_n to_o any_o comfortable_a frame_n brokenness_n of_o heart_n renew_v resolution_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n more_o strict_o than_o before_o as_o many_o time_n it_o be_v in_o day_n of_o fast_v and_o prayer_n above_o all_o time_n will_v that_o very_o often_o after_o a_o day_n of_o fast_v after_o such_o a_o day_n that_o you_o have_v get_v most_o in_o if_o not_o the_o very_a night_n yet_o the_o next_o day_n you_o will_v find_v strong_a work_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o your_o heret_n to_o keep_v they_o down_o immediate_o after_o that_o time_n for_o the_o stir_n of_o corruption_n they_o be_v very_o malicious_a and_o watch_v for_o the_o time_n that_o they_o may_v do_v we_o the_o great_a mischief_n of_o al._n 7._o further_o the_o stir_v of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o we_o be_v very_o burdensome_a in_o regard_n of_o their_o unseasonableness_n by_o that_o i_o mean_v this_o to_o speak_v plain_o to_o your_o heart_n the_o stir_n of_o our_o corruption_n if_o we_o shall_v gratify_v they_o many_o time_n yield_v to_o they_o as_o it_o be_v for_o peace_n sake_n as_o sometime_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v so_o trouble_v with_o the_o work_n of_o corruption_n that_o they_o think_v they_o must_v needs_o yield_v that_o they_o may_v be_v quiet_a well_o if_o thou_o shall_v yield_v to_o they_o to_o quiet_v they_o they_o will_v come_v upon_o thou_o more_o and_o more_o with_o great_a strength_n they_o will_v come_v upon_o thou_o then_o before_o as_o now_o if_o any_o one_o that_o be_v troublesome_a to_o we_o in_o seek_v to_o get_v such_o and_o such_o a_o thing_n of_o we_o and_o at_o length_n because_o of_o trouble_n to_o we_o we_o yield_v to_o they_o than_o afterward_o they_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o we_o encroach_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o we_o and_o be_v very_o troublesome_a and_o burdensome_a to_o we_o it_o be_v so_o in_o the_o stir_n of_o corruption_n if_o you_o yield_v to_o your_o corruption_n for_o one_o thing_n it_o come_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o you_o so_o that_o the_o only_a quiet_a you_o can_v have_v be_v by_o be_v at_o open_a defiance_n with_o they_o now_o this_o be_v another_o thing_n whereby_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n be_v very_o burdensome_a to_o they_o 8._o last_o the_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n be_v very_o burdensome_a because_o they_o be_v very_o prevail_v this_o be_v a_o high_a degree_n they_o be_v burdensome_a in_o the_o root_n and_o then_o in_o the_o work_n they_o be_v more_o burdensome_a but_o then_o in_o the_o prevail_a they_o be_v yet_o more_o burdensome_a if_o so_o be_v a_o child_n of_o god_n that_o look_v into_o his_o hearâ—_n and_o find_v what_o a_o root_n of_o bitternese_n there_o be_v that_o make_v he_o go_v heavy_o all_o his_o day_n but_o now_o when_o he_o find_v such_o work_n and_o stir_v of_o corruption_n this_o trouble_v he_o more_o he_o think_v though_o i_o have_v such_o a_o curse_a nature_n though_o i_o can_v keep_v down_o the_o motion_n and_o stir_n of_o my_o corruption_n yet_o if_o i_o can_v keep_v they_o from_o work_v yea_o though_o i_o can_v keep_v they_o from_o work_v yet_o if_o i_o can_v but_o keep_v they_o from_o prevail_v but_o alas_o they_o overcome_v i_o many_o time_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n of_o all_o that_o they_o prevail_v in_o our_o heart_n
not_o only_o say_v in_o general_a come_v to_o i_o but_o call_v they_o in_o particular_a 3._o you_o will_v say_v how_o shall_v we_o know_v it_o be_v the_o voice_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v the_o this_o way_n be_v near_o to_o faith_n indeed_o when_o the_o soul_n can_v say_v thus_o it_o be_v true_a in_o the_o way_n i_o have_v be_v there_o be_v no_o mercy_n to_o i_o and_o i_o know_v not_o whether_o there_o be_v mercy_n for_o i_o but_o i_o will_v try_v it_o it_o have_v not_o the_o reflect_v act_n of_o faith_n but_o some_o secret_a persuasion_n of_o the_o soul_n whereby_o it_o do_v the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n and_o man_n upon_o earth_n can_v ever_o have_v devise_v or_o think_v on_o beyond_o their_o imagination_n now_o for_o one_o to_o be_v at_o the_o dispose_n of_o a_o man_n dispose_n in_o a_o matter_n of_o the_o great_a concernment_n you_o will_v think_v yourselves_o well_o whereas_o before_o you_o lay_v at_o the_o mercy_n of_o a_o man_n that_o be_v very_o rigorous_a man_n that_o be_v in_o danger_n of_o his_o life_n stand_v before_o the_o judge_n and_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o pardon_n for_o he_o but_o he_o have_v his_o book_n give_v to_o he_o as_o you_o know_v the_o way_n be_v to_o have_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o clergy_n as_o we_o use_v to_o call_v it_o now_o when_o he_o know_v if_o he_o read_v he_o shall_v have_v his_o life_n but_o life_n lie_v upon_o it_o and_o the_o judge_n be_v strict_a and_o set_v one_o by_o he_o that_o the_o ordinary_a shall_v not_o prompt_v he_o and_o he_o will_v have_v he_o read_v out_o and_o his_o life_n lie_v upon_o it_o i_o suppose_v you_o have_v hear_v of_o some_o that_o be_v able_a scholar_n and_o able_a to_o read_v well_o enough_o at_o other_o time_n yet_o at_o such_o a_o time_n be_v not_o able_a to_o read_v one_o word_n for_o a_o world_n but_o suppose_v this_o man_n now_o have_v his_o pardon_n and_o you_o then_o put_v he_o to_o read_v than_o he_o can_v read_v with_o delight_n he_o have_v freedom_n enough_o now_o to_o read_v his_o eye_n that_o be_v bind_v before_o be_v loosen_a now_o suppose_v he_o be_v to_o read_v a_o psalm_n of_o mercy_n before_o he_o have_v his_o pardon_n and_o when_o he_o have_v his_o pardon_n there_o be_v a_o psalm_n of_o thankfulness_n for_o his_o life_n give_v he_o to_o read_v he_o can_v read_v it_o then_o with_o delight_n just_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n they_o stand_v before_o god_n as_o their_o judge_n and_o look_v upon_o what_o they_o perform_v as_o that_o which_o their_o soul_n depend_v upon_o that_o if_o i_o do_v not_o do_v such_o and_o such_o thing_n that_o be_v command_v i_o my_o soul_n lie_v upon_o it_o alas_o this_o straiten_n the_o heart_n and_o it_o be_v put_v into_o a_o condition_n of_o read_v perform_v duty_n and_o let_v all_o the_o duty_n you_o perform_v be_v in_o way_n of_o blessing_n my_o name_n and_o praise_v of_o i_o for_o give_v of_o you_o your_o life_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o principal_a ground_n of_o all_o that_o god_n require_v of_o such_o as_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n mere_o that_o thou_o shall_v go_v out_o before_o the_o lord_n in_o way_n of_o cleanse_v from_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o flesh_n i_o perhaps_o they_o may_v a_o little_a serve_v the_o turn_n for_o they_o i_o but_o from_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o thought_n the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o affection_n those_o inward_a spiritual_a wickedness_n of_o pride_n malice_n and_o the_o like_a may_v be_v you_o will_v count_v it_o a_o world_n by_o lust_n and_o not_o only_o escape_v the_o corruption_n of_o the_o world_n that_o be_v do_v not_o live_v so_o wicked_o as_o other_o do_v but_o come_v to_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n through_o these_o promise_n so_o that_o christ_n be_v the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n because_o in_o he_o all_o promise_n be_v make_v they_o have_v a_o mighty_a cleanse_v virtue_n to_o sanctify_v the_o heart_n you_o will_v willing_o have_v interest_n in_o promise_n and_o have_v the_o mercy_n that_o the_o promise_n hold_v forth_o now_o as_o you_o will_v have_v the_o interest_n christ_n and_o from_o christ_n the_o holy_a ghost_n never_o come_v to_o sanctify_v any_o but_o the_o member_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o he_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n as_o well_o as_o of_o the_o father_n and_o never_o come_v to_o any_o but_o to_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o work_n of_o sanctification_n there_o be_v some_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n that_o the_o heathen_n have_v but_o for_o this_o gift_n of_o true_a holiness_n it_o be_v only_o in_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v come_v into_o last_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n by_o his_o kingly_a power_n sway_v his_o sceptre_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o rule_v there_o subdue_a our_o lust_n as_o a_o king_n subdue_v rebel_n and_o walk_v and_o govern_v the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n christ_n do_v exercise_v a_o kingly_a power_n when_o any_o soul_n do_v believe_v when_o christ_n come_v into_o any_o heart_n he_o come_v into_o the_o heart_n to_o exercise_v a_o kingly_a power_n there_o to_o set_v up_o his_o throne_n in_o a_o kingly_a manner_n and_o by_o this_o he_o come_v to_o sanctify_v the_o heart_n and_o give_v rest_n and_o as_o in_o a_o kingdom_n there_o be_v mutiny_n sedition_n and_o the_o like_a so_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o sinner_n there_o be_v mutiny_n and_o sedition_n even_o against_o god_n himself_o but_o now_o whenas_o the_o king_n send_v forth_o power_n that_o very_a power_n prevail_v against_o all_o thing_n if_o it_o prevail_v in_o a_o way_n of_o justice_n all_o thing_n be_v bring_v into_o right_a and_o due_a order_n again_o so_o here_o when_o christ_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n as_o king_n of_o righeousness_n and_o then_o as_o king_n of_o peace_n hereby_o he_o come_v to_o bring_v rest_n and_o quiet_a unto_o the_o heart_n by_o his_o kingly_a power_n carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v that_o the_o kingly_a power_n of_o

know_v any_o thing_n of_o god_n love_v then_o if_o any_o spiritual_a judgement_n be_v upon_o i_o but_o these_o be_v no_o other_o but_o what_o may_v stand_v with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n yea_o but_o that_o be_v not_o so_o much_o that_o they_o may_v possible_o stand_v with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o this_o that_o they_o come_v out_o of_o god_n love_n and_o come_v from_o god_n love_n they_o come_v as_o real_o from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n as_o any_o thing_n that_o thou_o do_v enjoy_v in_o this_o world_n thou_o think_v if_o thou_o have_v a_o prosperous_a voyage_n that_o god_n love_v thou_o if_o thou_o be_v recover_v out_o of_o a_o affliction_n that_o god_n love_v thou_o but_o i_o say_v that_o the_o lord_n bring_v thou_o into_o affliction_n may_v stand_v with_o great_a love_n to_o thou_o than_o deliverance_n out_o of_o affliction_n to_o another_o the_o affliction_n that_o be_v upon_o the_o saint_n now_o they_o do_v not_o come_v out_o of_o revenge_n as_o they_o do_v upon_o the_o wicked_a the_o same_o affliction_n that_o come_v from_o the_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o thou_o may_v come_v from_o the_o principle_n of_o hatred_n to_o another_o and_o although_o therefore_o in_o the_o outward_a view_n they_o be_v the_o same_o yet_o they_o be_v infinite_o different_a in_o the_o principle_n it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o what_o we_o see_v or_o what_o we_o feel_v but_o from_o whence_o that_o come_v that_o we_o see_v or_o feel_v and_o indeed_o a_o gracious_a heart_n be_v ever_o solicitous_a about_o the_o principle_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o do_v befall_v it_o if_o it_o be_v a_o outward_a mercy_n i_o but_o what_o be_v the_o root_n of_o it_o be_v the_o root_n of_o it_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n to_o my_o soul_n there_o be_v a_o affliction_n upon_o i_o but_o what_o be_v the_o root_n of_o it_o be_v the_o root_n of_o it_o god_n displeasure_n god_n wrath_n god_n hatred_n oh_o that_o be_v dreadful_a although_o the_o affliction_n be_v vast_a if_o there_o be_v a_o hundred_o temptation_n if_o the_o root_n of_o it_o be_v god_n displeasure_n oh_o that_o be_v terrible_a i_o but_o then_o when_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o know_v that_o the_o root_n of_o it_o be_v not_o from_o god_n wrath_n but_o his_o love_n that_o be_v joyful_a you_o will_v say_v do_v not_o god_n sometime_o chastise_v his_o people_n for_o their_o sin_n what_o if_o the_o affliction_n come_v to_o i_o for_o my_o sin_n can_v i_o have_v rest_n then_o it_o be_v true_a if_o the_o affliction_n come_v to_o i_o for_o my_o trial_n than_o the_o root_n may_v be_v from_o his_o love_n but_o i_o have_v sin_v against_o god_n i_o have_v abuse_v my_o estate_n my_o conscience_n tell_v i_o i_o have_v not_o honour_v god_n with_o my_o estate_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n have_v take_v it_o from_o i_o and_o spoil_v i_o of_o all_o and_o can_v i_o look_v upon_o this_o as_o the_o root_n of_o god_n love_n now_o to_o that_o i_o answer_v though_o this_o be_v a_o certain_a thing_n and_o will_v and_o must_v hold_v notwithstanding_o all_o the_o late_a wanton_a conceit_n of_o man_n and_o all_o the_o vanity_n of_o their_o thought_n which_o shall_v come_v to_o nothing_o yet_o this_o shall_v hold_v that_o god_n do_v chastise_v his_o people_n for_o sin_n and_o offence_n that_o be_v not_o a_o part_n for_o i_o to_o enter_v upon_o yet_o still_o it_o hold_v forth_o this_o that_o at_o that_o time_n when_o god_n chastise_v for_o sin_n at_o that_o time_n their_o affliction_n come_v out_o of_o love_n from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n even_o when_o god_n chastise_v they_o for_o their_o sin_n but_o you_o will_v say_v have_v not_o christ_n suffer_v this_o derogate_v from_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n when_o he_o have_v suffer_v for_o this_o it_o be_v true_a christ_n have_v suffer_v and_o so_o have_v swallow_v up_o all_o god_n revenge_v wrath_n and_o the_o curse_n i_o but_o do_v god_n wrath_n hinder_v i_o from_o have_v the_o fruit_n of_o god_n love_n you_o will_v say_v it_o come_v from_o love_n therefore_o god_n chastise_v not_o for_o sin_n no_o why_o all_o god_n revenge_v wrath_n may_v be_v go_v and_o yet_o god_n may_v chastise_v for_o sin_n and_o chastise_v out_o of_o love_n too_o at_o the_o same_o instant_n you_o know_v it_o be_v say_v of_o zachary_n because_o he_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o scripture_n say_v in_o luke_n 1._o for_o this_o cause_n thou_o shall_v be_v dumb_a for_o this_o cause_n because_o thou_o do_v not_o believe_v and_o so_o therefore_o because_o of_o their_o sin_n they_o may_v be_v chastise_v can_v a_o father_n chastise_v his_o child_n and_o yet_o do_v it_o out_o of_o love_n not_o only_o it_o may_v stand_v with_o his_o love_n but_o because_o of_o love_n he_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o he_o but_o let_v he_o go_v if_o he_o do_v not_o love_v he_o certain_o affliction_n may_v come_v out_o of_o love_n though_o for_o sin_n but_o for_o god_n not_o at_o all_o to_o chastise_v they_o will_v be_v a_o argument_n of_o hatred_n therefore_o for_o he_o to_o chastise_v be_v a_o argument_n of_o love_n rather_o than_o hatred_n if_o you_o be_v not_o chastise_v you_o be_v bastard_n and_o not_o son_n so_o that_o you_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o he_o though_o god_n be_v displease_v yet_o still_o it_o be_v out_o of_o love_n these_o two_o may_v stand_v together_o he_o may_v be_v displease_v with_o thy_o sin_n and_o with_o thou_o and_o yet_o he_o may_v love_v thou_o in_o the_o very_a act_n wherein_o he_o manifest_v his_o displeasure_n against_o thy_o sin_n and_o he_o may_v manifest_v his_o displeasure_n against_o thou_o and_o against_o thy_o sin_n out_o of_o love_n to_o thou_o and_o therefore_o the_o people_n of_o god_n may_v have_v rest_n in_o all_o their_o affliction_n because_o it_o be_v out_o of_o love_n here_o be_v a_o affliction_n but_o from_o whence_o do_v it_o come_v it_o come_v from_o love_n now_o i_o be_o at_o rest_n if_o thou_o can_v exercise_v faith_n in_o christ_n in_o thy_o affliction_n that_o i_o know_v that_o through_o christ_n god_n love_v i_o and_o this_o be_v the_o efficacy_n of_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n that_o in_o all_o thy_o affliction_n thou_o shall_v enjoy_v the_o love_n of_o god_n this_o will_v give_v rest_n unto_o thy_o soul_n and_o until_o this_o be_v all_o the_o argument_n in_o the_o world_n will_v never_o do_v it_o come_v to_o those_o that_o be_v afflict_v and_o seek_v to_o pacify_v and_o quiet_v they_o with_o any_o argument_n in_o the_o world_n it_o will_v not_o do_v it_o until_o they_o exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n and_o that_o make_v they_o to_o know_v here_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o my_o soul_n in_o this_o affliction_n and_o then_o it_o be_v no_o matter_n whether_o i_o be_v in_o prosperity_n or_o adversity_n if_o god_n give_v i_o a_o estate_n there_o be_v love_n in_o that_o if_o he_o take_v it_o away_o there_o be_v love_n in_o that_o if_o he_o give_v i_o health_n there_o be_v love_n in_o that_o if_o he_o cast_v i_o into_o sickness_n there_o be_v love_n in_o that_o and_o this_o indeed_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n that_o the_o heathen_n be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o this_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n four_o we_o have_v rest_n in_o all_o affliction_n through_o christ_n because_o in_o his_o merit_n it_o be_v that_o all_o affliction_n be_v proportion_v both_o for_o the_o time_n of_o come_v and_o the_o time_n of_o continue_v and_o the_o measure_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o they_o they_o be_v proportion_v by_o the_o infinite_a wisdom_n of_o god_n for_o the_o good_a of_o a_o believer_n god_n proportion_v all_o so_o as_o shall_v be_v suitable_a to_o the_o condition_n that_o thou_o be_v in_o as_o a_o wise_a physician_n know_v the_o full_a condition_n of_o thou_o that_o be_v his_o patient_n at_o all_o time_n therefore_o he_o do_v weigh_v every_o dram_n and_o take_v care_n that_o there_o be_v not_o one_o drop_n put_v into_o thy_o cup_n that_o he_o give_v thou_o to_o drink_v more_o than_o shall_v suit_v with_o thy_o condition_n for_o thy_o good_a and_o take_v care_v it_o shall_v be_v give_v at_o a_o seasonable_a time_n and_o

shall_v do_v and_o if_o we_o be_v leave_v here_o now_o it_o be_v hard_o indeed_o but_o then_o if_o we_o can_v find_v a_o promise_n where_o god_n promise_v that_o he_o will_v do_v it_o for_o we_o this_o will_v be_v easy_a to_o we_o and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o diffierence_n between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n the_o law_n command_v we_o what_o to_o do_v and_o give_v no_o strength_n but_o the_o gospel_n never_o command_v we_o to_o do_v any_o duty_n but_o there_o be_v a_o promise_n that_o engage_v the_o lord_n to_o help_v the_o soul_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o that_o duty_n and_o now_o be_v not_o here_o rest_n for_o the_o soul_n when_o the_o soul_n shall_v look_v upon_o the_o large_a extent_n of_o the_o duty_n that_o the_o law_n of_o god_n require_v of_o it_o the_o law_n require_v of_o i_o to_o love_v the_o lord_n with_o all_o my_o heart_n and_o with_o all_o my_o soul_n and_o with_o all_o my_o might_n and_o to_o keep_v his_o commandment_n and_o statute_n and_o to_o circumcise_v my_o heart_n lord_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v in_o this_o now_o then_o when_o the_o soul_n can_v look_v upon_o christ_n &_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n &_o consider_v that_o that_o run_v thus_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v circumcise_v my_o heart_n that_o i_o may_v love_v the_o lord_n with_o all_o my_o heart_n &_o with_o all_o my_o soul_n &_o that_o i_o may_v keep_v his_o commandment_n run_v there_o run_v likewise_o a_o artery_n together_o with_o the_o vein_n now_o the_o artery_n be_v the_o vehiculum_fw-la of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o the_o body_n of_o a_o man_n that_o put_v liveliness_n and_o quickness_n into_o the_o body_n so_o for_o all_o the_o world_n thus_o it_o be_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n i_o compare_v the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n unto_o the_o vein_n they_o be_v these_o duty_n require_v of_o thou_o in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o thy_o life_n but_o if_o thou_o have_v vein_n of_o blood_n and_o have_v no_o artery_n no_o spirit_n thou_o will_v be_v but_o dull_a though_o the_o blood_n be_v full_a in_o the_o vein_n yet_o there_o will_v be_v little_a strength_n but_o now_o there_o be_v the_o spirit_n that_o go_v along_o in_o the_o artery_n that_o give_v life_n to_o the_o vein_n so_o now_o they_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n they_o know_v many_o duty_n that_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v i_o but_o except_o they_o have_v the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o go_v along_o with_o they_o they_o have_v little_a life_n little_a activity_n to_o do_v the_o duty_n therefore_o christian_n when_o you_o hear_v any_o duty_n out_o of_o god_n word_n that_o you_o ought_v to_o perform_v consider_v here_o be_v the_o duty_n here_o be_v the_o vein_n i_o but_o where_o be_v the_o artery_n there_o be_v a_o promise_n in_o the_o word_n that_o go_v along_o with_o the_o duty_n to_o enable_v i_o to_o perform_v the_o duty_n now_o if_o i_o take_v both_o together_o i_o may_v go_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o godliness_n with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o ease_n and_o quiet_a and_o no_o duty_n needs_o to_o be_v troublesome_a to_o i_o the_o want_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o this_o one_o thing_n make_v the_o life_n of_o many_o people_n to_o be_v very_o disconsolate_a and_o make_v they_o go_v on_o deadly_a and_o dull_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n whereas_o if_o they_o will_v promise_n where_o the_o lord_n say_v i_o will_v take_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o stone_n and_o give_v a_o heart_n of_o flesh_n what_o condition_n be_v there_o do_v god_n say_v that_o if_o you_o first_o repent_v and_o perform_v such_o and_o such_o duty_n that_o i_o require_v of_o you_o than_o i_o will_v take_v away_o your_o heart_n of_o stone_n no_o that_o be_v a_o absolute_a promise_n and_o so_o likewise_o that_o promise_n i_o will_v put_v my_o fear_n into_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o shall_v not_o depart_v from_o i_o god_n do_v not_o make_v this_o promise_n with_o condition_n you_o will_v say_v why_o then_o have_v not_o all_o their_o stony_a heart_n be_v take_v from_o they_o because_o the_o promise_n be_v absolute_a i_o answer_v it_o be_v absolute_a from_o any_o precedent_a your_o soul_n upon_o the_o promise_n and_o depend_v upon_o it_o and_o when_o thy_o soul_n be_v at_o a_o loss_n in_o regard_n of_o conditional_a promise_n when_o thy_o heart_n misgive_v thou_o and_o promise_n thou_o may_v go_v to_o absolute_a promise_n so_o when_o thou_o make_v use_v of_o absolute_a promise_n thou_o shall_v be_v enable_v to_o do_v what_o be_v require_v of_o thou_o in_o conditional_a promise_n and_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n the_o law_n require_v and_o do_v not_o give_v strength_n to_o enable_v to_o do_v what_o it_o require_v but_o the_o gospel_n require_v and_o give_v strength_n to_o perform_v what_o it_o require_v six_o there_o be_v rest_n unto_o those_o that_o come_v to_o christ_n in_o this_o because_o when_o they_o perform_v duty_n in_o christ_n they_o do_v not_o perform_v they_o that_o they_o may_v have_v life_n or_o that_o they_o may_v have_v pardon_n that_o they_o may_v get_v life_n by_o they_o or_o that_o they_o may_v obtain_v pardon_n by_o their_o duty_n but_o they_o perform_v they_o now_o as_o the_o fruit_n of_o their_o life_n and_o as_o a_o fruit_n of_o their_o pardon_n and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o ease_v to_o the_o heart_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n there_o be_v many_o
eternal_a life_n itself_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v rest_n in_o it_o it_o be_v so_o far_o from_o get_v eternal_a life_n by_o it_o as_o it_o be_v rather_o eternal_a life_n itself_o than_o so_o much_o as_o any_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n for_o this_o may_v be_v say_v though_o i_o perform_v duty_n it_o be_v true_a god_n have_v teach_v i_o so_o much_o that_o now_o under_o the_o gospel_n we_o must_v not_o think_v to_o get_v eternal_a life_n by_o our_o duty_n by_o our_o work_n this_o be_v popery_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n the_o way_n that_o tend_v to_o it_o it_o be_v via_fw-la ad_fw-la regnum_fw-la the_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n though_o not_o the_o cause_n of_o reign_v nay_o i_o will_v show_v you_o a_o further_a thing_n than_o so_o the_o way_n of_o obedience_n and_o holiness_n in_o a_o christian_n course_n they_o be_v rather_o eternal_a life_n itself_o than_o the_o way_n to_o it_o they_o have_v more_o excellency_n in_o they_o then_o be_v the_o way_n to_o life_n it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ease_n and_o rest_n to_o one_o spirit_n to_o consider_v of_o holy_a duty_n but_o as_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n if_o a_o man_n be_v go_v a_o journey_n and_o know_v the_o end_n of_o his_o journey_n shall_v be_v very_o glorious_a to_o he_o if_o it_o be_v to_o receive_v a_o crown_n a_o kingdom_n though_o it_o be_v a_o boisterous_a day_n and_o stormy_a weather_n and_o the_o way_n be_v very_o foul_a he_o will_v not_o be_v trouble_v at_o it_o but_o he_o will_v account_v it_o very_o comfortable_a to_o know_v that_o he_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n for_o he_o think_v this_o will_v lead_v i_o to_o my_o journey_n end_n and_o when_o i_o come_v there_o that_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o al._n and_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o the_o way_n of_o eternal_a life_n but_o thou_o be_v in_o eternal_a life_n itself_o not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n but_o in_o the_o kingdom_n not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n but_o in_o heaven_n it_o be_v eternal_a life_n this_o be_v eternal_a life_n to_o know_v thou_o the_o true_a god_n and_o thy_o son_n who_o thou_o have_v send_v into_o the_o world_n and_o that_o thou_o perform_v to_o god_n to_o be_v wage_n oh_o with_o what_o sweetness_n will_v thou_o go_v on_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o those_o duty_n that_o god_n require_v of_o thou_o thou_o be_v receive_v thy_o wage_n when_o thou_o be_v perform_v of_o duty_n in_o rom._n 6._o and_o the_o last_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n but_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a life_n through_o jesus_n christ_n at_o the_o 22._o verse_n it_o be_v thus_o but_o now_o be_v free_v from_o sin_n and_o become_v servant_n unto_o god_n you_o have_v your_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n and_o the_o end_n
