imprint_v these_o thing_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o that_o for_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n to_o who_o etc._n etc._n the_o first_o sermon_n upon_o the_o xii_o chapter_n of_o luke_n verse_n 15._o and_o he_o say_v unto_o they_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n for_o a_o man_n life_n consist_v not_o in_o the_o abundance_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o possess_v verse_n 16._o and_o he_o speak_v a_o parable_n unto_o they_o say_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o certain_a rich_a man_n bring_v forth_o plentiful_o verse_n 17._o and_o he_o think_v within_o himself_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o do_v because_o i_o have_v no_o room_n where_o to_o bestow_v my_o fruit_n verse_n 18._o and_o he_o say_v this_o will_v i_o do_v i_o will_v pull_v down_o my_o barn_n and_o build_v great_a and_o there_o will_v i_o bestow_v all_o my_o fruit_n and_o my_o good_n there_o be_v no_o time_n of_o the_o year_n wherein_o you_o be_v more_o distract_v about_o worldly_a care_n then_o at_o this_o time_n to_o the_o end_n therefore_o that_o you_o exceed_v not_o due_a measure_n intention_n i_o think_v good_a to_o present_v to_o your_o meditation_n these_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n wherein_o most_o powerful_o he_o diswade_v from_o covetousness_n first_o you_o have_v his_o dehortation_n take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n second_o it_o be_v enforce_v by_o a_o pregnant_a reason_n for_o the_o life_n of_o man_n etc._n etc._n three_o this_o reason_n be_v confirm_v and_o clear_v by_o a_o most_o divine_a parable_n where_o in_o to_o the_o life_n be_v represent_v the_o folly_n wickedness_n &_o punishment_n of_o avarice_n and_o he_o speak_v unto_o they_o a_o parable_n say_v let_v we_o return_v to_o the_o dehortation_n and_o he_o say_v unto_o they_o take_v heed_n etc._n etc._n before_o we_o consider_v the_o word_n occasion_n you_o be_v to_o understand_v that_o this_o dehortation_n be_v occasion_v by_o the_o discord_n of_o two_o brethren_n of_o who_o one_o come_v to_o our_o saviour_n as_o you_o may_v read_v in_o the_o precede_a word_n desire_v he_o to_o move_v his_o brother_n to_o divide_v the_o inheritance_n with_o he_o it_o be_v covetousness_n which_o make_v the_o one_o to_o retain_v that_o part_n of_o the_o inheritance_n which_o be_v not_o his_o own_o and_o which_o make_v the_o other_o to_o have_v recourse_n to_o our_o saviour_n not_o for_o the_o health_n of_o his_o soul_n as_o he_o shall_v have_v do_v but_o for_o redress_v in_o his_o temporal_a estate_n it_o make_v he_o more_o mindful_a of_o his_o patrimony_n in_o earth_n then_o of_o that_o which_o be_v in_o heaven_n hence_o our_o saviour_n take_v occasion_n to_o exhort_v he_o and_o all_o these_o that_o be_v present_a and_o in_o they_o we_o all_o to_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o covetousness_n what_o this_o be_v the_o duty_n which_o he_o recommend_v that_o which_o he_o will_v we_o to_o beware_v of_o be_v covetousness_n elsewher_o it_o be_v call_v the_o love_n of_o money_n but_o the_o word_n use_v here_o be_v more_o large_a signify_v a_o desire_n and_o seek_v after_o that_o which_o be_v more_o than_o be_v needful_a and_o sufficient_a whether_o in_o money_n or_o house_n or_o land_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v a_o vice_n in_o defect_n contrary_a to_o liberality_n whereby_o a_o man_n esteem_v love_v and_o delight_v in_o earthly_a riches_n more_o than_o he_o ought_v whence_o he_o exceed_v just_a measure_n in_o retain_v or_o acquire_v of_o they_o thus_o one_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o sin_n 1._o when_o against_o the_o ten_o commandment_n he_o covet_v that_o which_o be_v not_o his_o own_o or_o against_o the_o eight_o commandment_n violent_o or_o fraudulent_o take_v it_o 2._o when_o he_o set_v his_o heart_n upon_o that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o &_o place_v his_o delight_n therein_o or_o which_o follow_v thereupon_o niggardly_o tetain_v it_o when_o by_o justice_n or_o love_n or_o mercy_n he_o be_v oblige_v to_o communicate_v it_o to_o other_o this_o be_v the_o vice_n from_o which_o here_o our_o saviour_n diswade_v neither_o say_v he_o simple_o be_v not_o covetous_a but_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o it_o covetousness_n take_v heed_n fore_o see_v or_o consider_v we_o can_v be_v aware_a except_o by_o sound_n and_o right_a judgement_n what_o be_v good_a and_o to_o be_v desire_v what_o be_v necessary_a and_o what_o not_o this_o he_o will_v have_v we_o to_o consider_v and_o weigh_v and_o with_o all_o that_o present_a effect_n of_o covetousness_n among_o these_o brother_n and_o the_o like_a woeful_a effect_n which_o avarice_n bring_v forth_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o we_o must_v also_o beware_v we_o must_v careful_o watch_v and_o strong_o guard_v our_o heart_n that_o this_o enemy_n get_v no_o access_n by_o this_o our_o lord_n insinuate_v two_o thing_n first_o that_o covetousness_n be_v insidious_a next_o that_o it_o be_v also_o a_o pernicious_a evil_n first_o we_o must_v beware_v of_o it_o because_o it_o be_v a_o insidious_a evil_n it_o subtle_o creep_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n insidious_a to_o this_o purpose_n it_o bathe_v often_o the_o mask_n &_o the_o appearance_n of_o virtue_n sometime_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v frugality_n somtim_n justice_n and_o pretend_v title_n of_o just_a and_o right_o thus_o easy_o it_o prevail_v with_o our_o earthly_a mind_n and_o therefore_o almost_o there_o be_v no_o vice_n so_o universal_a it_o enter_v into_o the_o society_n of_o the_o holy_a apostle_n and_o overthrow_v judas_n there_o among_o the_o primitive_a christian_n it_o poison_v the_o heart_n of_o ananias_n and_o saphira_n the_o court_n of_o king_n &_o the_o cottage_n of_o poor_a man_n be_v easy_o tempt_v by_o it_o as_o experience_n teach_v second_o it_o be_v a_o most_o pernicious_a evil_n s._n paul_n 1_o tim._n 6._o say_v the_o love_n of_o money_n be_v the_o root_n of_o all_o evil_a distrustful_a anxiety_n lie_v evil_n fraud_n perjury_n thift_n oppression_n discord_n and_o murder_n spring_n from_o it_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o wicked_a than_o a_o covetous_a may_v say_v the_o wiseman_n ecclesiast_n 10._o 9_o for_o such_o a_o one_o will_v set_v his_o soul_n to_o sail_v there_o be_v no_o law_n of_o man_n no_o law_n of_o god_n or_o nature_n which_o it_o will_v not_o make_v man_n to_o trample_v under_o foot_n that_o same_o apostle_n say_v it_o be_v idolatry_n it_o make_v a_o man_n the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n but_o to_o his_o own_o saint_n and_o child_n he_o give_v no_o more_o or_o permit_v they_o to_o have_v no_o more_o nor_o he_o know_v be_v convenient_a for_o their_o eternal_a health_n i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o disposition_n of_o this_o man_n his_o mind_n and_o he_o think_v within_o himself_o etc._n etc._n i_o be_o rich_a now_o than_o before_o care_n but_o never_o a_o white_a the_o better_a yea_o by_o abundance_n he_o become_v worse_o as_o shall_v appear_v by_o his_o disposition_n manifest_v here_o this_o disposition_n of_o his_o heart_n our_o saviour_n express_v first_o by_o his_o consultation_n next_o by_o his_o resolution_n his_o consultation_n and_o he_o think_v within_o himself_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o do_v etc._n etc._n where_o first_o observe_v the_o poverty_n of_o this_o wealthy_a wretch_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v &_o i_o have_v not_o be_v the_o word_n of_o man_n that_o be_v in_o poverty_n &_o distress_n as_o s._n basil_n write_v upon_o these_o word_n mark_v and_o yet_o such_o be_v the_o word_n of_o this_o wretch_n thus_o you_o see_v his_o poverty_n increase_v with_o his_o riches_n observe_v 2._o his_o anxiety_n and_o solicitude_n for_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v be_v the_o expression_n of_o anxiety_n and_o care_n his_o abundance_n give_v he_o not_o quietness_n &_o tranquillity_n of_o mind_n but_o make_v he_o more_o anxious_a and_o perplex_a who_o will_v not_o pity_v such_o a_o miserable_a man_n say_v s._n basil_n miserable_a be_v he_o in_o that_o which_o he_o have_v and_o more_o miserable_a in_o that_o which_o he_o expect_v the_o earth_n say_v he_o have_v not_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n unto_o thou_o but_o sorrow_n unxietie_n and_o care_n to_o prick_v and_o sting_v thy_o heart_n like_o so_o many_o thorn_n three_o observe_v his_o wickedness_n and_o folly_n that_o which_o he_o advise_v on_o be_v where_o to_o find_v room_n for_o his_o corn_n he_o have_v so_o much_o of_o old_a stuff_n mercy_n &_o so_o great_a a_o increase_n have_v new_o spring_v up_o unto_o he_o that_o his_o barn_n be_v not_o able_a to_o receive_v al._n be_v perplex_v with_o this_o he_o consult_v what_o to_o do_v but_o he_o consult_v not_o with_o love_n and_o mercy_n or_o spiritual_a prudence_n which_o will_v have_v soon_o resolve_v he_o where_o to_o have_v bestow_v his_o fruit_n more_o secure_o and_o profitable_o than_o he_o do_v hade_n he_o consult_v with_o love_n and_o mercy_n it_o will_v have_v tell_v he_o there_o be_v many_o empty_a house_n and_o hungry_a belly_n of_o the_o poor_a where_o he_o may_v have_v bestow_v a_o part_n of_o that_o which_o be_v superfluous_a to_o he_o love_n will_v have_v teach_v he_o quick_o to_o have_v resolve_v thus_o this_o i_o will_v do_v i_o will_v satisfy_v the_o hungry_a soul_n of_o the_o poor_a i_o will_v open_v my_o barn_n and_o supply_v their_o want_n as_o god_n have_v deal_v with_o i_o liberal_o so_o i_o will_v make_v a_o magnificent_a proclamation_n come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v poor_a and_o indigent_a and_o be_v partaker_n of_o that_o which_o god_n have_v give_v bountiful_o unto_o i_o he_o have_v open_v unto_o i_o a_o fountain_n and_o you_o shall_v drink_v of_o the_o streamt_v of_o it_o prudence_n in_o like_a manner_n have_v he_o consult_v with_o spiritual_a wisdom_n it_o will_v have_v bid_v he_o if_o he_o have_v love_v his_o riches_n to_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o most_o high_a and_o it_o shall_v profit_v thou_o more_o than_o gold_n shut_v up_o alm_n in_o thy_o storehouse_n and_o it_o shall_v deliver_v thou_o from_o all_o affliction_n and_o it_o shall_v fight_v for_o thou_o against_o all_o enemy_n more_o than_o a_o mighty_a shield_n &_o spear_n ecclesiast_n 29._o but_o this_o covetous_a wretch_n use_v not_o these_o counsellor_n he_o think_v within_o himself_o say_v our_o saviour_n he_o consult_v not_o with_o god_n with_o his_o law_n or_o servant_n but_o with_o his_o own_o corrupt_a heart_n he_o think_v upon_o nothing_o but_o this_o life_n and_o think_v all_o he_o have_v be_v but_o for_o himself_o and_o therefore_o forget_v both_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o of_o god_n he_o resolve_v most_o uncharitable_o and_o wicked_o as_o follow_v and_o he_o say_v this_o will_n i_o do_v good_n i_o will_v pull_v down_o my_o barn_n and_o build_v up_o great_a and_o there_o will_v i_o bestow_v all_o my_o fruit_n and_o my_o good_n at_o last_o his_o anxious_a and_o perplex_a mind_n resolve_v on_o this_o to_o pull_v down_o his_o barn_n because_o they_o be_v not_o capacious_a enough_o and_o to_o renew_v &_o enlarge_v they_o so_o as_o that_o they_o may_v receive_v all_o his_o new_a fruit_n and_o all_o his_o old_a corn_n which_o he_o call_v his_o good_n for_o other_o good_n you_o know_v use_v not_o to_o be_v lay_v up_o in_o barn_n this_o be_v his_o resolution_n concern_v his_o good_n which_o be_v second_v with_o a_o wicked_a resolution_n concern_v himself_o set_v down_o in_o the_o next_o verse_n here_o mark_v first_o his_o folly_n he_o assure_v himself_o of_o these_o his_o fruit_n which_o as_o yet_o be_v expose_v to_o many_o danger_n of_o rain_n and_o wind_n and_o hail_n 2._o mark_v his_o unsatiaâ—lnes_n i_o will_v build_v up_o great_a say_v he_o and_o when_o that_o be_v do_v what_o if_o thy_o field_n bring_v forth_o as_o plentiful_o the_o next_o year_n say_v s._n basil_n that_o these_o barn_n be_v not_o able_a to_o contain_v these_o thy_o fruit_n will_v thou_o cast_v down_o these_o again_o and_o build_v great_a again_o what_o a_o folly_n be_v that_o for_o a_o man_n to_o weary_v himself_o with_o endless_a pain_n ever_o to_o be_v build_v up_o and_o ever_o to_o be_v cast_v down_o again_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o covetousness_n it_o can_v never_o be_v satisfy_v the_o more_o the_o covetous_a man_n have_v the_o more_o still_o he_o desire_v three_o mark_v his_o hard_a heartedness_n he_o design_v nothing_o for_o the_o poor_a but_o resolve_v to_o hoard_n up_o all_o for_o himself_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o follow_a word_n no_o mind_n have_v he_o of_o the_o necessity_n of_o other_o no_o probable_a fear_n of_o wantâ—o_o â—o_z himself_o or_o his_o family_n such_o intention_n he_o will_v pull_v down_o to_o build_v great_a here_o first_o you_o see_v what_o covetousness_n may_v be_v in_o retain_v that_o which_o be_v our_o own_o own_o aswell_o as_o in_o desire_v or_o take_v that_o which_o be_v not_o our_o own_o this_o man_n as_o holy_a augustine_n observe_v be_v not_o think_v upon_o another_o man_n field_n nor_o of_o remove_v his_o neighbour_n
