altogether_o lean_v upon_o he_o you_o must_v cast_v yourselves_o whole_o upon_o he_o for_o faith_n have_v such_o a_o attract_v virtue_n in_o it_o that_o it_o fill_v the_o heart_n with_o christ_n now_o it_o can_v fill_v the_o heart_n with_o christ_n unless_o the_o heart_n be_v empty_v first_o therefore_o i_o say_v faith_n have_v a_o double_a quality_n faith_n not_o only_o to_o take_v but_o to_o empty_a and_o they_o be_v reciprocal_a the_o one_o can_v be_v without_o the_o other_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o we_o say_v faith_n ingraft_v a_o man_n a_o man_n can_v be_v ingraft_v into_o a_o new_a stock_n unless_o he_o be_v quite_o cut_v off_o from_o the_o former_a root_n therefore_o faith_n drive_v a_o man_n out_o of_o himself_o and_o make_v he_o nothing_o in_o himself_o so_o that_o when_o he_o come_v to_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n he_o look_v at_o no_o quality_n or_o excellency_n of_o his_o own_o he_o look_v at_o no_o fitness_n nor_o worthiness_n in_o himself_o but_o he_o come_v with_o a_o hand_n and_o a_o heart_n altogether_o empty_a so_o that_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o beseech_v god_n to_o receive_v he_o to_o mercy_n and_o to_o grant_v he_o a_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n when_o he_o come_v to_o take_v hold_n of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n for_o his_o justification_n if_o he_o think_v that_o there_o be_v any_o little_a worthiness_n in_o he_o or_o that_o there_o be_v no_o fault_n in_o he_o at_o all_o and_o from_o thence_o shall_v think_v that_o god_n will_v receive_v he_o this_o man_n be_v not_o fit_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n he_o must_v be_v whole_o empty_v of_o himself_o and_o then_o god_n will_v speak_v peace_n unto_o he_o quest._n but_o you_o will_v ask_v what_o be_v that_o that_o faith_n do_v empty_a a_o man_n of_o faith_n empty_v a_o either_o of_o these_o remain_n in_o the_o heart_n a_o man_n can_v receive_v christ_n first_o i_o say_v a_o man_n must_v be_v empty_v of_o all_o opinion_n of_o worthiness_n in_o himself_o of_o all_o conceit_n that_o he_o have_v the_o least_o righteousness_n in_o himself_o therefore_o when_o the_o young_a man_n come_v to_o christ_n and_o christ_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o must_v keep_v the_o law_n and_o he_o say_v he_o have_v do_v all_o those_o thing_n from_o his_o youth_n christ_n know_v that_o he_o be_v not_o yet_o fit_a therefore_o say_v he_o go_v and_o sell_v all_o that_o thou_o have_v christ_n end_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o discover_v to_o he_o his_o own_o unworthiness_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v perfect_a say_v christ_n take_v this_o trial_n can_v thou_o be_v content_a to_o let_v thy_o wealth_n go_v to_o follow_v i_o can_v thou_o be_v content_a to_o suffer_v persecution_n this_o show_v that_o he_o be_v not_o perfect_a but_o that_o he_o be_v still_o a_o sinful_a man_n this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o prepare_v he_o for_o christ_n this_o course_n we_o see_v christ_n always_o take_v we_o see_v it_o express_v in_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o publican_n and_o of_o the_o pharise_n the_o publican_n go_v away_o justify_v because_o he_o be_v whole_o empty_v of_o all_o conceit_n and_o opinion_n of_o worth_n in_o himself_o but_o the_o pharise_n be_v not_o justify_v not_o because_o he_o be_v not_o a_o just_a man_n than_o the_o
discourage_v a_o little_a grain_n of_o true_a musk_n be_v able_a to_o sweeten_v a_o great_a deal_n so_o if_o faith_n be_v true_a a_o little_a true_a faith_n will_v perfume_v all_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n it_o have_v influence_n into_o every_o thing_n and_o it_o put_v a_o good_a tincture_n upon_o all_o that_o a_o man_n do_v though_o it_o be_v but_o little_a yet_o the_o influence_n be_v great_a therefore_o though_o thou_o have_v not_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o faith_n if_o thou_o have_v a_o little_a comfort_n thyself_o with_o that_o we_o know_v the_o best_a bud_n draw_v sap_n from_o the_o root_n as_o well_o as_o the_o great_a branch_n as_o true_o so_o they_o that_o bud_n that_o be_v but_o yet_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o faith_n yet_o they_o be_v as_o true_o graft_v into_o christ_n and_o receive_v life_n from_o he_o as_o those_o that_o be_v grow_v christian_n and_o therefore_o be_v noâ—_n discourage_v because_o thou_o have_v not_o as_o yet_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o faith_n say_v not_o because_o i_o be_o not_o as_o strong_a as_o such_o therefore_o i_o be_o no_o body_n reason_n not_o so_o if_o thou_o have_v but_o as_o much_o as_o will_v bring_v thou_o within_o the_o door_n sound_a that_o have_v christ_n offer_v they_o but_o do_v not_o receive_v he_o indeed_o to_o those_o our_o ministry_n be_v sharp_a but_o for_o other_o it_o be_v not_o so_o and_o therefore_o in_o ezekiel_n 34._o we_o be_v to_o do_v as_o the_o shepherd_n do_v there_o with_o their_o flock_n some_o sheep_n be_v weak_a and_o be_v not_o able_a to_o go_v the_o pace_n of_o the_o rest_n some_o be_v break_v some_o be_v lose_v and_o some_o be_v go_v astray_o and_o some_o be_v great_a with_o young_a our_o business_n be_v to_o seek_v those_o that_o be_v lose_v to_o drive_v all_o according_a to_o the_o pace_n of_o the_o weak_a to_o bind_v up_o the_o break_a to_o carry_v they_o in_o our_o arm_n thus_o christ_n do_v and_o if_o we_o fail_v in_o this_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o great_a shepherd_n of_o the_o flock_n he_o see_v it_o if_o we_o go_v astray_o he_o fetch_v we_o in_o if_o we_o be_v break_v and_o have_v lose_v our_o wool_n and_o be_v not_o in_o right_a order_n he_o bind_v we_o up_o you_o that_o where_o there_o be_v faith_n there_o be_v peace_n and_o quiet_a they_o be_v not_o only_o for_o resemblance_n to_o show_v you_o that_o as_o it_o be_v in_o those_o other_o thing_n wherein_o we_o believe_v so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o main_a as_o you_o do_v not_o believe_v any_o particular_a promise_n except_o you_o have_v some_o quiet_n in_o your_o mind_n after_o it_o but_o likewise_o to_o show_v you_o whether_o that_o peace_n be_v good_a or_o no_o whether_o that_o faith_n be_v sure_a or_o no._n for_o if_o you_o believe_v the_o main_a certain_o you_o will_v believe_v the_o less_o therefore_o consider_v with_o yourselves_o we_o will_v enlarge_v this_o sign_n so_o far_o if_o thou_o will_v know_v whether_o thy_o faith_n be_v good_a or_o no_o whether_o thou_o have_v peace_n
