whether_o in_o sickness_n or_o health_n in_o abjection_n or_o honour_n in_o poverty_n or_o abundance_n let_v we_o never_o fail_v of_o our_o duty_n to_o god_n by_o prayer_n in_o the_o best_a manner_n we_o can_v be_v the_o powerful_a mean_n to_o procure_v and_o advance_v our_o union_n with_o god_n our_o only_a happiness_n i_o can_v possible_o wish_v a_o great_a good_a to_o any_o person_n i_o love_v than_o the_o gift_n of_o prayer_n know_v that_o thereby_o we_o enter_v into_o the_o cabinet_n of_o the_o secret_n of_o god_n and_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o his_o grace_n prayer_n then_o be_v the_o source_n of_o all_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n without_o which_o by_o degree_n she_o tend_v to_o ruin_v no_o affair_n whatsoever_o can_v ever_o hinder_v the_o saint_n from_o their_o constant_a devotion_n jesus_n christ_n himself_o have_v show_v we_o this_o by_o his_o example_n spend_v whole_a night_n in_o prayer_n and_o contemplation_n our_o disorder_n proceed_v much_o by_o too_o light_o engage_v ourselves_o for_o want_v of_o circumspection_n in_o humane_a affair_n to_o which_o we_o have_v no_o call_n from_o god_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o favour_v by_o he_o with_o success_n whereby_o we_o fall_v into_o many_o defect_n and_o become_v too_o often_o indispose_v to_o prayer_n and_o prayer_n fail_v we_o we_o want_v all_o thing_n the_o first_o wheel_n that_o must_v set_v all_o a_o go_v in_o our_o spiritual_a life_n be_v this_o maxim_n that_o our_o perfection_n consist_v principal_o in_o our_o interiour_n but_o it_o can_v go_v well_o with_o our_o interiour_n without_o fidelity_n to_o grace_n which_o work_v in_o we_o a_o love_n of_o mortification_n and_o austerity_n a_o inclination_n to_o solitude_n and_o a_o kind_n of_o abhorrence_n of_o sensual_a pleasure_n and_o such_o vanity_n as_o the_o world_n admire_v now_o this_o grace_n that_o bring_v forth_o these_o good_a fruit_n in_o we_o be_v not_o obtain_v but_o by_o prayer_n nor_o ordinary_o augment_v but_o by_o prayer_n nor_o well_o know_v so_o as_o to_o correspond_v to_o its_o motion_n but_o by_o prayer_n but_o it_o be_v very_o difficult_a and_o in_o a_o manner_n impossible_a to_o preserve_v the_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n in_o the_o multiplicity_n of_o affair_n which_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v instrumental_a to_o divert_v our_o thought_n from_o god_n and_o so_o few_o soul_n attain_v to_o perfection_n because_o few_o dispose_n themselves_o to_o pure_a prayer_n neglect_v it_o too_o much_o under_o a_o pretence_n of_o gain_v time_n to_o do_v good_a to_o other_o a_o soul_n that_o will_v be_v whole_o for_o god_n must_v discreet_o shun_v the_o obstacle_n of_o perfection_n though_o never_o so_o specious_a with_o courage_n and_o fidelity_n who_o be_v weak_a in_o prayer_n must_v not_o lay_v out_o himself_o too_o much_o in_o action_n for_o than_o he_o will_v profit_v little_a in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o his_o interiour_n will_v not_o advance_v in_o virtue_n when_o we_o see_v many_o great_a servant_n of_o god_n to_o do_v glorious_a thing_n for_o the_o love_n and_o service_n and_o honour_n of_o their_o great_a master_n with_o high_a commendation_n this_o sometime_o raise_v a_o emulation_n in_o we_o to_o follow_v their_o example_n but_o our_o fidelity_n do_v not_o consist_v herein_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o make_v the_o best_a we_o can_v of_o the_o grace_n we_o have_v receive_v and_o admire_v without_o envy_n the_o gift_n of_o other_o methinks_v i_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o be_v but_o as_o god_n will_v have_v i_o neither_o more_o nor_o less_o either_o interior_o or_o exterior_o in_o nature_n or_o grace_n i_o see_v other_o perfect_a and_o myself_o imperfect_a without_o discouragement_n i_o behold_v even_o with_o content_a other_o command_v their_o passion_n and_o myself_o fight_v for_o victory_n other_o do_v much_o for_o god_n and_o i_o in_o a_o manner_n do_v nothing_o other_o strong_a and_o courageous_a in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o myself_o nothing_o but_o weakness_n and_o misery_n i_o be_o comfort_v in_o consider_v the_o design_n of_o god_n concern_v i_o and_o acquiesce_v in_o his_o good_a pleasure_n for_o god_n refuse_v we_o not_o sometime_o to_o take_v unprofitable_a servant_n into_o his_o house_n who_o only_o serve_v to_o set_v forth_o his_o bounty_n and_o magnificence_n as_o we_o see_v with_o we_o some_o great_a person_n do_v show_v their_o grandeur_n when_o we_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v but_o only_o to_o pray_v we_o seem_v to_o some_o to_o be_v but_o unprofitable_a and_o do_v god_n but_o
