relation_n of_o life_n which_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n place_v we_o in_o 1._o what_o submission_n we_o owe_v to_o providence_n under_o all_o the_o suffering_n and_o affliction_n which_o we_o meet_v with_o in_o this_o world_n i_o do_v not_o mention_v a_o happy_a and_o prosperous_a fortune_n for_o it_o require_v no_o great_a submission_n to_o be_v prosperous_a this_o be_v what_o all_o man_n desire_v and_o choose_v but_o to_o submit_v be_v to_o make_v our_o own_o will_n and_o desire_n and_o fear_n and_o aversion_n and_o natural_a passion_n and_o affection_n stoop_v and_o yield_v to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n which_o there_o be_v no_o occasion_n for_o but_o in_o a_o suffering_n and_o afflict_a state_n now_o when_o we_o suffer_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o flesh_n and_o blood_n submission_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n do_v not_o require_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o feel_v our_o suffering_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v afflict_v with_o they_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o complain_v of_o they_o for_o to_o submit_v to_o god_n be_v not_o to_o put_v off_o the_o sense_n and_o passion_n of_o human_a nature_n it_o do_v not_o alter_v the_o nature_n of_o thing_n vehement_a and_o importunate_a desire_n and_o prayer_n to_o god_n and_o man_n to_o help_v and_o deliver_v we_o we_o have_v frequent_a example_n of_o this_o in_o scripture_n the_o psalm_n of_o david_n as_o they_o abound_v with_o all_o dutiful_a expression_n of_o reverence_n and_o submission_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n so_o they_o be_v very_o full_a of_o complaint_n and_o of_o the_o most_o passionate_a sense_n of_o suffering_n represent_v so_o as_o to_o be_v feel_v in_o such_o a_o strain_n of_o move_a eloquence_n as_o not_o art_n but_o afflict_a nature_n teach_v but_o we_o have_v one_o example_n above_o all_o other_o and_o that_o be_v the_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n who_o suffer_v with_o fear_n and_o reluctancy_n and_o with_o earnest_a prayer_n to_o his_o father_n if_o submission_n to_o god_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o courage_n and_o fortitude_n of_o mind_n to_o bear_v suffering_n which_o man_n may_v have_v without_o any_o sense_n of_o god_n and_o which_o the_o profound_a reverence_n for_o god_n will_v not_o always_o teach_v we_o but_o he_o submit_v who_o receive_v the_o bitter_a cup_n and_o drink_v it_o though_o with_o a_o tremble_v heart_n and_o hand_n this_o aught_o to_o be_v observe_v for_o the_o comfort_n of_o those_o who_o have_v a_o very_a devout_a sense_n of_o god_n and_o reverence_n for_o his_o judgement_n but_o betray_v great_a weakness_n of_o mind_n and_o disorder_n of_o passion_n under_o their_o suffering_n who_o be_v very_o impatient_a of_o pain_n and_o have_v such_o soft_a and_o tender_a passion_n that_o every_o affliction_n gall_v they_o and_o when_o they_o reflect_v upon_o these_o disorder_n this_o create_v new_a and_o great_a trouble_n to_o they_o for_o they_o conclude_v that_o all_o this_o be_v want_n of_o a_o due_a submission_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o religion_n be_v never_o intend_v to_o extinguish_v the_o sense_n and_o affection_n of_o nature_n to_o reconcile_v we_o to_o pain_n or_o to_o make_v all_o these_o flatter_a or_o frightful_a disguise_n be_v remove_v which_o magnify_v the_o good_a or_o evil_a that_o be_v in_o thing_n yet_o good_a and_o evil_a they_o be_v and_o will_v excite_v in_o pull_v he_o from_o his_o throne_n submission_n to_o god_n be_v the_o submission_n of_o our_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n now_o though_o no_o man_n can_v absolute_o choose_v suffering_n for_o
