they_o the_o same_o happiness_n but_o do_v reject_v they_o to_o eternal_a woe_n and_o that_o in_o his_o just_a judgement_n although_o hide_v from_o us._n q._n how_o be_v god_n say_v to_o hate_v they_o when_o they_o be_v create_v and_o become_v wicked_a man_n a._n two_o way_n first_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o he_o detest_v they_o for_o their_o iniquity_n and_o hatred_n against_o god_n for_o he_o hate_v not_o their_o nature_n which_o he_o make_v himself_o but_o the_o sin_n which_o cleave_v and_o dwell_v in_o their_o nature_n so_o god_n do_v hate_n and_o abhor_v the_o wicked_a themselves_o not_o as_o they_o be_v man_n but_o as_o they_o be_v wicked_a and_o rebellious_a for_o every_o one_o both_o in_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v good_a as_o he_o be_v create_v of_o god_n second_o god_n be_v say_v to_o hate_v the_o wicked_a man_n when_o he_o do_v punish_v their_o impiety_n and_o hatred_n against_o his_o majesty_n with_o many_o plague_n both_o spiritual_a and_o corporal_a both_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a therefore_o the_o psalmist_n after_o he_o have_v say_v thou_o hate_v all_o they_o that_o work_n iniquity_n present_o he_o add_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n 5.5.6_o thou_o shall_v destroy_v they_o that_o speak_v lie_n the_o lord_n will_v abhor_v the_o bloody_a and_o deceitful_a man_n to_o show_v that_o for_o god_n to_o inflict_v punishment_n upon_o the_o reprobate_n and_o ungodlye_a be_v to_o hate_v they_o and_o to_o hate_v they_o be_v to_o destroy_v they_o q._n how_o may_v it_o appear_v that_o god_n hate_v iniquity_n a._n that_o be_v most_o clear_a for_o he_o do_v destroy_v it_o in_o the_o reprobate_n by_o eternal_a condemnation_n and_o he_o do_v take_v it_o from_o the_o elect_a by_o justification_n yea_o he_o do_v so_o hate_v sin_n that_o to_o take_v it_o away_o from_o his_o elect_a and_o choose_a child_n he_o have_v lay_v it_o upon_o his_o own_o son_n jesus_n christ_n and_o have_v condemn_v it_o in_o his_o flesh_n as_o esay_n say_v 53.5.4_o whereby_o god_n have_v show_v not_o only_o unspeakable_a love_n towards_o his_o elect_a
but_o also_o a_o most_o holy_a and_o perfect_a hatred_n against_o sin_n q._n do_v god_n never_o hate_v and_o detest_v his_o elect_a and_o choose_v a._n indeed_o he_o be_v often_o angry_a with_o they_o as_o a_o love_a father_n and_o do_v oftentimes_o severelye_o chastise_v they_o but_o he_o never_o hate_v they_o q._n how_o prove_v you_o that_o he_o never_o hate_v they_o a._n i_o prove_v it_o by_o hereby_o that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a virtue_n and_o acceptable_a to_o god_n to_o hate_v wickedness_n and_o wicked_a man_n themselves_o not_o as_o they_o be_v man_n but_o as_o they_o be_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a as_o david_n do_v 139.21.22_o and_o we_o be_v no_o less_o bind_v to_o hate_v the_o enemy_n of_o god_n as_o they_o be_v his_o enemy_n then_o to_o love_n god_n and_o those_o that_o love_v he_o and_o if_o we_o do_v so_o than_o we_o must_v also_o fly_v their_o company_n and_o have_v no_o friendship_n or_o fellowship_n with_o they_o second_o we_o be_v teach_v hereby_o that_o we_o must_v distinguish_v between_o man_n person_n and_o their_o sin_n and_o not_o to_o hate_v the_o person_n of_o man_n because_o they_o be_v the_o good_a creature_n of_o god_n but_o their_o sin_n we_o must_v hate_v every_o day_n more_o and_o more_o and_o this_o we_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o apostle_n precept_n in_o 2._o thes._n 3.6.14.15_o certain_a question_n and_o answer_n declare_v the_o right_a use_n of_o the_o law_n question_n have_v already_o speak_v of_o the_o ceremonial_a and_o judicial_a part_n of_o god_n law_n it_o remain_v now_o that_o we_o consider_v of_o the_o moral_a part_n of_o god_n law_n viz._n the_o ten_o commandment_n but_o before_o we_o come_v to_o the_o true_a sense_n and_o meaning_n of_o every_o commandment_n i_o will_v have_v you_o to_o show_v i_o why_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o be_v the_o ten_o commandment_n must_v be_v right_o understand_v of_o we_o a._n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o we_o shall_v understand_v every_o point_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o so_o we_o may_v know_v christ_n jesus_n to_o be_v a_o saviour_n indeed_o unto_o we_o and_z that_o so_o we_o may_v perceive_v the_o length_n breadth_n and_o depth_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o embrace_v they_o according_o q._n and_o can_v that_o be_v without_o the_o special_a knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n a._n no_o for_o the_o greatness_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o corruption_n discover_v the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n &_o favour_n towards_o us._n q._n and_o shall_v we_o see_v how_o great_a our_o sin_n and_o corruption_n be_v by_o open_v the_o meaning_n of_o every_o commandment_n a._n yea_o &_o then_o we_o shall_v also_o see_v that_o our_o affection_n be_v a_o utter_a enemy_n to_o the_o obedience_n require_v in_o the_o same_o q._n and_o what_o shall_v we_o be_v the_o better_a a._n we_o may_v if_o god_n give_v grace_n be_v the_o better_a for_o it_o two_o way_n 1_o when_o we_o see_v so_o much_o rebellion_n and_o iniquity_n as_o it_o be_v bleed_v in_o every_o part_n of_o we_o even_o to_o death_n it_o will_v make_v we_o with_o speed_n seek_v to_o jesus_n christ_n the_o only_a physician_n of_o our_o soul_n 2_o when_o we_o shall_v see_v &_o consider_v how_o many_o and_o how_o dangerous_a wound_n he_o do_v cure_v in_o we_o we_o will_v never_o forget_v nor_o small_o account_v his_o death_n but_o alalwaies_o worthy_o magnify_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n towards_o us._n q._n why_o we_o all_o know_v that_o we_o be_v sick_a and_o disease_a of_o sin_n be_v not_o that_o sufficient_a to_o make_v we_o seek_v to_o christ_n a._n no_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v disease_v and_o not_o well_o but_o we_o must_v know_v a_o number_n of_o disease_n to_o be_v grow_v upon_o we_o every_o one_o of_o which_o do_v threaten_v present_a death_n before_o we_o can_v be_v so_o careful_a as_o we_o ought_v in_o seek_v to_o christ._n q._n then_o belike_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o say_v we_o be_v all_o sinner_n a._n no_o but_o we_o must_v know_v how_o many_o part_n be_v infect_v and_o how_o dangerous_a the_o infection_n be_v q._n what_o mean_v you_o by_o that_o a._n i_o mean_v that_o sin_n must_v be_v uncase_v and_o unfold_v in_o we_o and_o all_o the_o branch_n of_o sin_n must_v be_v lay_v open_a to_o our_o conscience_n by_o open_v the_o law_n q._n do_v the_o law_n only_o show_v the_o greatness_n of_o our_o sin_n a._n no_o but_o it_o will_v show_v we_o also_o the_o eternal_a wrath_n of_o god_n flame_v out_o against_o we_o and_o even_o hell_n itself_o ready_a to_o receive_v we_o for_o our_o transgression_n so_o dangerous_a be_v our_o infection_n and_o so_o necessary_a be_v the_o understanding_n of_o the_o law_n q._n what_o be_v it_o not_o enough_o to_o see_v the_o greatness_n of_o our_o sin_n a._n no_o but_o we_o must_v also_o see_v the_o infinite_a punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n q._n why_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o drive_v man_n to_o despair_n be_v it_o not_o a._n not_o the_o sight_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o the_o want_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n death_n breed_v despair_n q._n whether_o must_v the_o law_n be_v teach_v alone_o or_o no_o a._n no_o not_o the_o law_n only_o for_o than_o we_o be_v leave_v comfortless_o nor_o the_o gospel_n only_o for_o than_o we_o will_v wax_v too_o presumptuous_a but_o both_o must_v go_v together_o the_o one_o to_o humble_v we_o and_o cast_v we_o down_o and_o the_o other_o to_o comfort_v we_o and_o to_o raise_v we_o up_o again_o by_o jesus_n christ_n for_o whosoever_o will_v go_v to_o heaven_n must_v go_v by_o hell_n q._n can_v we_o not_o be_v true_o humble_v without_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o our_o sin_n by_o the_o law_n a._n no_o for_o it_o be_v with_o we_o as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o notable_a malefactor_n q._n how_o be_v that_o a._n for_o example_n a_o thief_n be_v charge_v with_o his_o theft_n at_o the_o first_o he_o will_v stand_v to_o justify_v himself_o and_o will_v ask_v no_o favour_n of_o any_o but_o when_o evidence_n and_o just_a proof_n come_v in_o against_o he_o and_o he_o see_v by_o the_o law_n nothing_o but_o death_n then_o will_v he_o humble_v himself_o cry_v for_o mercy_n and_o sue_v for_o a_o pardon_n q._n and_o be_v it_o so_o with_o we_o by_o nature_n a._n by_o nature_n every_o one_o be_v give_v to_o flatter_v himself_o and_o to_o qualify_v his_o own_o fault_n and_o to_o have_v a_o confidence_n in_o his_o own_o work_n but_o when_o we_o see_v our_o own_o miserable_a estate_n by_o the_o law_n we_o will_v then_o geve_v over_o our_o hold_n and_o betake_v ourselves_o whole_o to_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n q_o it_o shall_v seem_v by_o your_o speech_n that_o we_o be_v not_o humble_v by_o nature_n a._n no_o for_o by_o nature_n we_o all_o like_v well_o of_o ourselves_o and_o which_o god_n do_v most_o abhor_v we_o wax_v proud_a of_o those_o good_a thing_n which_o god_n work_v in_o we_o and_o by_o us._n q._n how_o prove_v you_o this_o that_o you_o say_v a._n that_o it_o be_v true_a it_o appear_v first_o by_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n himself_o 12.7_o second_o by_o the_o romishe_a church_n which_o fight_v so_o stout_o in_o defence_n of_o man_n merit_n q._n and_o what_o conclude_v you_o by_o these_o two_o example_n a._n i_o conclude_v that_o this_o doctrine_n of_o humble_v and_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o god_n will_v not_o so_o easy_o enter_v into_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v the_o law_n of_o god_n open_v to_o humble_v we_o and_o so_o to_o
