that_o his_o kingdom_n be_v set_v in_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o fight_n yea_o and_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o hater_n thereof_o these_o thing_n be_v write_v for_o our_o comfort_n that_o we_o which_o mind_n to_o serve_v under_o the_o prince_n of_o this_o kingdom_n be_v so_o instruct_v that_o we_o look_v for_o no_o other_o than_o be_v here_o prescribe_v and_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o world_n the_o godly_a must_v look_v for_o no_o peace_n or_o quietness_n in_o the_o world_n that_o we_o seek_v not_o here_o to_o get_v unto_o we_o the_o favour_n of_o the_o world_n neither_o that_o we_o serve_v have_v a_o little_a shine_v forth_o thanks_n be_v to_o christ_n therefore_o no_o man_n be_v any_o where_o so_o hate_v as_o a_o christian_a both_o the_o pope_n and_o the_o furious_a bishop_n with_o their_o false_a apostle_n also_o the_o rage_a prince_n moreover_o the_o holy_a learned_a and_o wise_a of_o the_o world_n all_o at_o this_o day_n do_v most_o bitter_o hate_v christian_n neither_o be_v they_o content_a that_o they_o be_v kill_v &_o slay_v but_o they_o will_v have_v they_o extinguish_v and_o utter_o root_v out_o that_o there_o may_v be_v no_o memory_n of_o they_o as_o they_o think_v leave_v among_o man_n and_o this_o be_v the_o state_n these_o be_v the_o badge_n and_o cognisance_n of_o christian_n that_o when_o satan_n by_o his_o minister_n persecute_v we_o he_o think_v quite_o to_o root_v we_o out_o this_o verse_n also_o give_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o christ_n be_v our_o king_n that_o he_o may_v save_v and_o deliver_v we_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o our_o enemy_n which_o he_o notable_o perform_v and_o show_v his_o power_n in_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o world_n in_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o force_n of_o flesh_n and_o satan_n when_o as_o peace_n and_o quietness_n be_v not_o where_o leave_v to_o a_o christian_a but_o in_o his_o christ_n alone_o this_o also_o we_o must_v mark_v that_o there_o be_v not_o one_o but_o many_o which_o assail_v &_o persecute_v christian_n but_o yet_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o therefore_o be_v destroy_v forasmuch_o as_o we_o have_v one_o which_o be_v strong_a both_o than_o the_o world_n and_o the_o prince_n thereof_o as_o john_n say_v now_o whereas_o he_o promise_v we_o we_o know_v certain_o that_o he_o both_o will_v and_o be_v able_a to_o perform_v we_o shall_v in_o deed_n feel_v the_o assault_n but_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v destroy_v or_o overcome_v so_o that_o we_o hope_v and_o trust_v in_o he_o it_o follow_v moreover_o verse_n 72._o that_o he_o may_v show_v mercy_n towards_o our_o father_n be_v the_o manner_n of_o the_o apostle_n also_o that_o they_o often_o time_n have_v recourse_n to_o the_o old_a testament_n as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o that_o god_n speak_v and_o promise_v by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o prophet_n etc._n etc._n even_o as_o zacharias_n do_v in_o this_o place_n objection_n a_o objection_n some_o man_n may_v now_o say_v they_o be_v dead_a how_o therefore_o will_v all_o thing_n go_v backward_o notwithstanding_o howsoever_o it_o be_v delay_v and_o seem_v yet_o it_o be_v fulfil_v and_o perform_v whatsoever_o be_v promise_v to_o abraham_n and_o god_n have_v not_o disallow_v and_o overthrow_v as_o to_o celebrate_v mass_n to_o join_v himself_o to_o this_o or_o that_o hypocritical_a sect_n which_o they_o call_v a_o order_n etc._n etc._n these_o the_o gospel_n condemn_v and_o reject_v and_o how_o can_v i_o attain_v to_o the_o gospel_n by_o that_o which_o it_o reject_v wherefore_o this_o stand_v sure_a and_o certain_a that_o all_o that_o we_o have_v be_v of_o the_o mere_a grace_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n so_o that_o with_o his_o honour_n and_o praise_n we_o may_v confess_v that_o we_o have_v deserve_v far_o otherwise_o namely_o hell_n fire_n if_o than_o these_o two_o thing_n christ_n and_o my_o work_n must_v be_v right_o discern_v and_o sever_a one_o from_o the_o other_o for_o this_o be_v plain_a even_o to_o he_o that_o be_v blind_a that_o christ_n and_o his_o work_n be_v not_o my_o life_n and_o my_o work_n but_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o law_n and_o from_o the_o work_n of_o all_o man_n yea_o and_o that_o by_o a_o great_a distance_n than_o man_n be_v unlike_a or_o differ_v from_o man_n for_o neither_o can_v i_o say_v that_o i_o and_o cesar_n or_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n be_v the_o same_o thing_n yet_o i_o be_o much_o near_o and_o like_a unto_o either_o of_o they_o than_o a_o mortal_a man_n and_o a_o sinner_n be_v unto_o christ_n the_o lord_n who_o be_v not_o only_o a_o pure_a and_o holy_a man_n free_a from_o all_o spot_n and_o blot_n but_o be_v moreover_o god_n also_o therefore_o let_v the_o law_n and_o the_o pureness_n of_o thy_o heart_n yea_o and_o thy_o good_a conscience_n avail_v in_o earth_n only_o towards_o man_n but_o where_o the_o mercy_n seat_n be_v to_o wit_n at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o mediator_n between_o thou_o &_o god_n thither_o no_o man_n work_n &_o merit_n ought_v to_o have_v access_n much_o less_o be_v they_o there_o of_o any_o force_n or_o value_n wherefore_o christ_n be_v pure_o to_o be_v separate_v from_o all_o my_o life_n deed_n and_o work_n and_o we_o into_o one_o part_n but_o my_o faith_n must_v fly_v and_o leap_v far_o unto_o a_o other_o part_n and_o join_v itself_o unto_o he_o which_o be_v pure_a and_o have_v no_o sin_n of_o who_o the_o scripture_n speak_v he_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v confound_v because_o he_o be_v present_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o father_n and_o make_v intercession_n for_o i_o moreover_o must_v despeire_n and_o say_v who_o know_v what_o i_o have_v do_v whereby_o be_o i_o certain_a that_o i_o have_v neglect_v nothing_o through_o carelessness_n or_o that_o nothing_o be_v want_v in_o i_o in_o this_o doutfulnes_n of_o mind_n the_o foundation_n fail_v slide_v away_o under_o thou_o like_o unto_o sand_n move_v or_o stir_v and_o so_o faith_n be_v of_o no_o force_n or_o value_n at_o all_o wherefore_o it_o be_v not_o unfit_o call_v feign_v and_o paint_a faith_n through_o which_o one_o see_v as_o it_o be_v through_o a_o lattice_n or_o paint_a glass_n through_o which_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v see_v represent_v the_o colour_n of_o the_o glass_n and_o yet_o be_v not_o in_o deed_n of_o that_o colour_n so_o they_o also_o believe_v that_o that_o affection_n be_v in_o god_n that_o he_o vouchsave_v to_o regard_v our_o work_n and_o merit_n which_o they_o paint_v forth_o according_a to_o their_o own_o opinion_n and_o dream_n which_o be_v utter_o false_a rash_a and_o unaduised_a and_o so_o judge_v god_n &_o all_o thing_n according_a to_o they_o they_o see_v only_o as_o it_o be_v through_o a_o lattice_n or_o paint_a glass_n but_o so_o only_o thou_o shall_v behold_v he_o with_o pure_a and_o clear_a eye_n if_o thou_o do_v well_o separate_v the_o judgement_n seat_n and_o the_o mercy_n seat_n one_o from_o the_o other_o that_o heaven_n with_o the_o star_n thereof_o may_v can_v be_v for_o the_o judgement_n seat_n shall_v remain_v etc._n etc._n wherefore_o separate_v these_o two_o one_o from_o the_o other_o as_o far_o as_o thou_o shall_v be_v able_a that_o they_o come_v not_o together_o namely_o thy_o life_n and_o holiness_n together_o with_o the_o judgement_n seat_n into_o one_o place_n which_o may_v drive_v &_o enforce_v thou_o to_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n the_o punishment_n may_v be_v put_v away_o have_v even_o then_o deny_v the_o gospel_n together_o mercy_n and_o merit_n can_v not_o agree_v together_o forasmuch_o as_o these_o two_o can_v not_o agree_v together_o that_o god_n have_v mercy_n on_o thou_o and_o yet_o that_o thou_o do_v merit_v some_o thing_n for_o if_o it_o be_v grace_n it_o be_v not_o merit_v but_o if_o it_o be_v merit_n then_o shall_v it_o not_o be_v grace_n but_o debt_n for_o if_o thou_o pay_v thy_o debt_n he_o show_v thou_o no_o mercy_n but_o if_o he_o show_v thou_o mercy_n thou_o do_v not_o make_v payment_n wherefore_o thing_n sure_o i_o ought_v to_o glory_n of_o if_o i_o be_v a_o true_a christian_a but_o this_o seem_v difficult_a and_o hard_a god_n admit_v no_o sin_n my_o fearful_a and_o weak_a conscience_n be_v against_o i_o how_o be_o i_o his_o servant_n when_o as_o notwithstanding_o i_o feel_v in_o myself_o that_o i_o serve_v the_o devil_n and_o do_v not_o know_v that_o i_o be_o holy_a i_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o christian_n such_o as_o i_o and_o such_o like_a be_v but_o of_o sincere_a christian_n which_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o in_o who_o heart_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n abide_v who_o conscience_n albeit_o it_o be_v frail_a and_o weak_a and_o they_o feel_v their_o sin_n yet_o they_o be_v enforce_v to_o say_v howsoever_o sin_n be_v yet_o i_o know_v no_o sin_n by_o myself_o neither_o be_o i_o subject_a to_o death_n and_o hell_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n they_o strive_v and_o at_o the_o last_o overcome_v that_o therefore_o they_o will_v even_o our_o good_a conversation_n and_o manner_n weigh_v how_o foolish_o man_n apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o gospel_n that_o i_o be_o almost_o in_o doubt_n whether_o i_o shall_v preach_v any_o more_o or_o no._n for_o as_o soon_o as_o these_o thing_n be_v teach_v in_o a_o sermon_n that_o salvation_n consist_v not_o in_o our_o work_n or_o life_n but_o in_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n every_o one_o be_v slow_a to_o do_v good_a no_o man_n will_v live_v a_o honest_a life_n and_o be_v any_o more_o obedient_a they_o false_o affirm_v every_o where_n that_o good_a work_n be_v inhibit_v nevertheless_o god_n require_v of_o we_o that_o we_o lead_v a_o honest_a life_n outward_o and_o he_o that_o do_v not_o so_o shall_v at_o length_n find_v his_o due_a punishment_n now_o if_o it_o happen_v that_o we_o live_v godly_o and_o honest_o outward_o satan_n by_o and_o by_o frame_v his_o wickedness_n neither_o do_v i_o know_v at_o this_o day_n how_o to_o order_v myself_o in_o this_o matter_n not_o because_o of_o my_o own_o person_n but_o because_o of_o life_n for_o if_o we_o preach_v of_o a_o honest_a and_o godly_a life_n the_o world_n by_o &_o by_o furious_o attempt_v without_o judgement_n life_n judgement_n they_z endeavour_n by_o their_o good_a work_n to_o attain_v to_o salvation_n we_o must_v neither_o presume_v of_o good_a work_n nor_o neglect_v to_o lead_v a_o godly_a life_n to_o build_v ladder_n to_o heaven_n which_o god_n neither_o can_v neither_o will_n by_o any_o mean_n suffer_v again_o a_o dishonest_a and_o ignominious_a life_n do_v not_o become_v christian_n neither_o do_v a_o delicate_a life_n become_v they_o what_o therefore_o must_v we_o then_o do_v they_z which_o have_v respect_n only_o to_o a_o honest_a and_o fair_a life_n it_o be_v better_o for_o they_o to_o be_v adulterer_n and_o adulteress_n and_o altogether_o to_o wallow_v in_o the_o mire_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o god_n will_v not_o have_v we_o to_o lead_v our_o life_n filthy_o and_o dishonest_o for_o neither_o can_v he_o suffer_v that_o adiudging_a thou_o even_o unto_o hell_n therefore_o if_o thou_o so_o do_v and_o if_o thou_o lead_v a_o honest_a life_n thou_o will_v stick_v in_o it_o and_o arrogate_v unto_o thyself_o which_o again_o he_o can_v not_o suffer_v thou_o must_v therefore_o so_o provide_v that_o thou_o remain_v in_o the_o middle_a path_n decline_v neither_o to_o the_o right_a hand_n nor_o to_o the_o left_a and_o that_o thou_o lead_v a_o quiet_a fair_a and_o amiable_a life_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o world_n which_o also_o may_v be_v acceptable_a before_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o thou_o do_v not_o therefore_o so_o great_o esteem_v it_o nor_o count_v so_o of_o it_o as_o though_o thou_o do_v merit_v any_o thing_n of_o god_n thereby_o thus_o a_o christian_a continue_v the_o holy_a servant_n of_o god_n without_o fear_n not_o by_o his_o good_a work_n and_o holy_a life_n but_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n work_n blasphemous_a to_o affirm_v ourselves_o holy_a by_o they_o that_o do_v good_a unto_o us._n whereof_o christ_n also_o have_v admonish_v we_o matth._n 5_o love_v your_o enemy_n that_o you_o may_v be_v the_o child_n of_o your_o father_n which_o be_v in_o unfit_a to_o receive_v it_o for_o they_o be_v deceitful_a work_n whereunto_o we_o add_v this_o sin_n that_o we_o think_v they_o righteous_a and_o trust_v in_o they_o whereby_o god_n be_v provoke_v to_o anger_v more_o than_o can_v be_v say_v even_o as_o our_o enemy_n be_v wont_a to_o move_v we_o to_o anger_n when_o as_o they_o will_v avouch_v those_o thing_n to_o be_v just_a desert_n we_o ought_v to_o be_v beneficial_a to_o other_o of_o mere_a love_n have_v no_o respect_n to_o good_a or_o evil_a desert_n wherein_o they_o sin_n and_o do_v unjust_o but_o even_o as_o god_n when_o we_o be_v unwise_a by_o error_n move_v he_o to_o anger_n count_v our_o sin_n work_n of_o righteousness_n do_v not_o therefore_o reject_v we_o but_o of_o his_o mercy_n deliver_v we_o from_o this_o error_n and_o sin_n so_o we_o neglect_v the_o foolishness_n and_o dotage_n of_o our_o adversary_n whereby_o they_o contend_v that_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v count_v for_o righteousness_n ought_v nevertheless_o of_o mere_a love_n have_v no_o respect_n of_o evil_a or_o good_a desert_n to_o be_v beneficial_a unto_o they_o and_o endeavour_n to_o do_v they_o good_a in_o all_o thing_n look_v for_o fruit_n of_o we_o also_o brief_o weigh_v the_o word_n wherein_o he_o set_v forth_o and_o commend_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n first_o he_o so_o great_o extoll_v it_o of_o the_o good_a work_n and_o righteousness_n of_o man_n how_o they_o be_v esteem_v of_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o it_o he_o condemn_v all_o our_o good_a work_n and_o righteousness_n neither_o do_v he_o condemn_v a_o small_a thing_n when_o he_o socrates_n traianus_n and_o many_o other_o who_o same_o the_o whole_a world_n have_v long_o since_o spread_v abroad_o both_o by_o word_n and_o write_n nevertheless_o all_o such_o wisdom_n and_o all_o such_o virtue_n be_v nothing_o but_o sin_n before_o god_n forasmuch_o as_o they_o be_v not_o do_v in_o and_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n doer_n of_o such_o virtue_n be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o can_v not_o honour_v he_o by_o their_o study_n and_o endeavour_n they_o think_v they_o have_v all_o think_v of_o themselves_o when_o as_o no_o man_n can_v have_v any_o good_a thing_n at_o all_o but_o of_o this_o grace_n alone_o which_o the_o gospel_n preach_v so_o paul_n glori_v that_o he_o before_o he_o know_v christ_n live_v a_o blameless_a life_n and_o be_v more_o zealous_a toward_o the_o law_n than_o those_o of_o his_o age_n that_o he_o also_o think_v that_o he_o do_v a_o thing_n acceptable_a to_o god_n by_o persecute_v the_o christian_n which_o condemn_v that_o blameless_a life_n which_o he_o lead_v but_o afterward_o when_o he_o have_v learned_a christ_n he_o say_v that_o he_o count_v that_o righteousness_n to_o be_v but_o dounge_a that_o he_o may_v be_v find_v not_o in_o such_o righteousness_n but_o in_o christ_n by_o faith_n philip._n 3._o the_o same_o thing_n he_o witness_v and_o entreat_v of_o at_o large_a in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o galathians_n and_o colossian_n here_o therefore_o be_v condemn_v all_o boast_n of_o free_a will_n man_n strength_n righteousness_n and_o good_a work_n and_o it_o be_v conclude_v that_o they_o be_v all_o nothing_o but_o sin_n and_o certain_a destruction_n although_o they_o have_v a_o fair_a show_n that_o we_o be_v save_v by_o the_o only_a grace_n of_o god_n as_o many_o of_o we_o as_o believe_v than_o the_o work_n of_o beast_n or_o of_o artificer_n whereby_o they_o do_v maintain_v themselves_o and_o they_o yea_o they_o do_v most_o hurtful_o hinder_v it_o therefore_o that_o i_o may_v conclude_v take_v heed_n as_o much_o as_o thou_o be_v able_a of_o these_o wolf_n which_o under_o a_o fair_a pretence_n counterfeit_v themselves_o sheep_n and_o learn_v and_o accustom_v thyself_o christian_n to_o know_v these_o to_o wit_n that_o they_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o grace_v preach_v and_o offer_v by_o the_o gospel_n for_o in_o this_o kingdom_n thou_o and_o hell_n shall_v trouble_v man_n no_o more_o then_o at_o the_o last_o the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n and_o absolute_a felicity_n shall_v be_v gospel_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v govern_v not_o if_o thou_o must_v live_v thou_o must_v have_v what_o to_o do_v and_o wherewith_o to_o occupy_v thyself_o and_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o all_o this_o be_v refer_v to_o thy_o neighbour_n the_o servant_n have_v do_v unto_o we_o as_o we_o ourselves_o complain_v that_o many_o of_o we_o be_v become_v worse_o than_o they_o be_v before_o as_o therefore_o this_o servant_n refuse_v to_o remit_v his_o neighbour_n the_o debt_n and_o deal_v extreme_o with_o he_o so_o also_o do_v we_o say_v it_o be_v not_o meet_v that_o i_o shall_v give_v that_o that_o be_v i_o to_o a_o other_o neglect_v my_o own_o right_n if_o this_o man_n have_v provoke_v i_o to_o anger_n it_o be_v his_o duty_n to_o pacify_v i_o &_o to_o labour_v by_o entreaty_n to_o put_v away_o my_o anger_n true_o thus_o the_o world_n teach_v and_o do_v for_o it_o affirm_v it_o to_o be_v just_a and_o right_o neither_o will_v any_o prince_n or_o magistrate_n enforce_v thou_o to_o give_v that_o which_o be_v thou_o to_o a_o other_o but_o will_v suffer_v thou_o to_o do_v what_o please_v thou_o with_o thy_o own_o good_n the_o magistrate_n in_o deed_n restrayn_v thou_o from_o do_v what_o thou_o listen_v with_o the_o good_a of_o a_o other_o but_o he_o constrain_v thou_o not_o to_o give_v thy_o own_o substance_n to_o a_o other_o for_o that_o be_v against_o the_o law_n of_o nation_n which_o even_o reason_n pronounce_v it_o give_v to_o every_o one_o that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o wherefore_o he_o do_v not_o unequal_o or_o unjust_o which_o use_v his_o own_o thing_n at_o his_o will_n &_o take_v not_o away_o wrongful_o the_o good_n of_o a_o other_o but_o what_o do_v the_o gospel_n say_v if_o god_n also_o have_v hold_v his_o own_o right_n and_o say_v i_o do_v well_o in_o that_o i_o punish_v offender_n and_o take_v that_o which_o be_v my_o own_o who_o shall_v let_v i_o what_o i_o pray_v you_o shall_v become_v of_o all_o we_o us._n we_o must_v be_v merciful_a to_o our_o brethren_n as_o god_n be_v merciful_a to_o us._n
