our_o mind_n which_o we_o desire_v and_o propose_v to_o make_v know_v to_o god_n and_o the_o act_n of_o it_o be_v the_o representation_n of_o these_o to_o his_o glorious_a majesty_n therefore_o the_o schoolman_n make_v prayer_n to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n presuppose_v the_o heart_n first_o affect_v with_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o prayer_n which_o be_v nothing_o to_o purpose_n without_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v say_v to_o animate_v and_o give_v life_n unto_o they_o yet_o we_o must_v not_o think_v that_o we_o can_v inform_v god_n who_o know_v our_o thought_n afar_o off_o of_o any_o thing_n which_o he_o be_v ignorant_a of_o therefore_o the_o intention_n of_o prayer_n be_v not_o only_o to_o honour_v he_o but_o to_o move_v and_o affect_v he_o with_o the_o matter_n represent_v this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o prayer_n large_o take_v so_o as_o to_o include_v in_o one_o continue_a speech_n petition_n praise_n thansgiving_n therefore_o praise_v and_o thanksgiving_n be_v say_v to_o be_v part_n of_o prayer_n which_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o representation_n of_o our_o mind_n be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o speak_n unto_o god_n and_o a_o conference_n with_o he_o for_o in_o all_o these_o we_o address_v ourselves_o to_o god_n approach_v to_o his_o throne_n and_o express_v our_o mind_n unto_o he_o and_o pour_v our_o heart_n out_o before_o he_o petition_n ascend_v mercy_n descend_v praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n be_v return_v unto_o he_o again_o prayer_n strict_o take_v be_v a_o humble_a presentation_n of_o our_o petition_n unto_o god_n as_o able_a and_o willing_a to_o effect_n they_o this_o may_v be_v make_v either_o unto_o a_o false_a god_n or_o the_o true_a god_n and_o to_o the_o true_a god_n either_o according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n or_o the_o light_n of_o grace_n and_o that_o either_o implicit_o in_o the_o name_n
our_o want_n defect_n and_o imperfection_n be_v many_o and_o our_o corruption_n what_o by_o nature_n what_o by_o custom_n be_v great_a yet_o they_o be_v some_o way_n from_o ourselves_o and_o we_o make_v ourselves_o guilty_a by_o consent_n so_o that_o our_o heart_n be_v the_o chief_a subject_n and_o also_o either_o the_o sole_a or_o principal_a or_o accessary_a cause_n of_o our_o sin_n this_o consent_n appear_v by_o our_o continuance_n in_o they_o or_o return_v unto_o they_o and_o that_o especial_o when_o we_o contrary_a to_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o other_o mean_n and_o motive_n of_o repentance_n walk_v according_a to_o the_o imagination_n and_o lust_n of_o our_o heart_n therefore_o we_o must_v say_v our_o trespass_n that_o we_o may_v charge_v
