joint_n to_o tremble_v of_o all_o sensible_a wracking_n in_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o comparable_a to_o that_o of_o despair_n o_o despair_n it_o be_v the_o death_n note_n pang_n of_o the_o conscience_n it_o be_v the_o soul_n in_o the_o extremity_n of_o amaze_a throw_n it_o see_v no_o heaven_n and_o no_o shore_n but_o lay_v the_o soul_n either_o in_o hell_n or_o ready_a to_o be_v cast_v quick_a into_o it_o now_o presumptuous_a sinning_n prepare_v the_o way_n for_o despair_n when_o the_o soul_n will_v have_v its_o sinful_a course_n it_o will_v not_o be_v beat_v off_o by_o any_o method_n and_o warning_n of_o heaven_n but_o go_v on_o in_o a_o secure_a confidence_n of_o the_o easiness_n and_o largeness_n of_o mercy_n when_o god_n will_v not_o take_v these_o proud_a bravery_n any_o long_o but_o arrest_v the_o stout_a transgressor_n and_o set_v his_o sin_n in_o order_n both_o for_o the_o greatness_n of_o fact_n and_o height_n of_o pride_n and_o dare_n and_o that_o against_o all_o light_n and_o goodness_n and_o warning_n and_o threaten_v and_o the_o sinner_n see_v himself_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o terrible_a and_o glorious_a god_n from_o who_o fierce_a displeasure_n it_o can_v now_o rid_v itself_o o_o cry_n out_o the_o miserable_a man_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v wo_n to_o i_o that_o ever_o i_o be_v bear_v i_o have_v shut_v up_o heaven_n against_o myself_o i_o be_o reject_v for_o ever_o as_o i_o have_v deal_v with_o god_n so_o now_o he_o deal_v with_o i_o i_o will_v not_o hearken_v to_o he_o and_o now_o he_o will_v not_o hearken_v to_o i_o o_o i_o shall_v never_o have_v mercy_n i_o have_v adventure_v on_o so_o presumptuous_o that_o i_o have_v distinguish_v myself_o from_o any_o hope_n and_o possibility_n of_o recovery_n i_o be_v entreat_v but_o still_o i_o will_v sin_v i_o be_v warn_v but_o still_o i_o will_v sin_n i_o see_v it_o to_o be_v sinful_a but_o i_o will_v do_v it_o i_o feel_v some_o trouble_n for_o it_o but_z etc._n etc._n i_o despise_a counsel_n and_o scorn_a reproof_n i_o slight_v mercy_n i_o quench_v motion_n and_o these_o so_o often_o o_o lord_n now_o thou_o have_v meet_v with_o i_o now_o shall_v i_o never_o rise_v any_o more_o i_o will_v have_v my_o sin_n and_o i_o have_v they_o still_o and_o i_o shall_v have_v thy_o just_a wrath_n and_o hell_n with_o they_o too_o
division_n let_v something_o come_v unto_o the_o soul_n which_o make_v a_o division_n sin_n will_v quick_o lose_v its_o dominion_n christ_n it_o must_v be_v something_o may_v gain_v the_o affection_n it_o must_v be_v something_o that_o must_v breed_v a_o strife_n direction_n look_v up_o to_o god_n and_o christ_n 3._o again_o it_o must_v be_v something_o which_o may_v gain_v the_o affection_n it_o must_v be_v able_a to_o win_v the_o heart_n to_o dispose_v of_o love_n and_o hatred_n for_o dominion_n be_v make_v or_o mar_v by_o one_o of_o they_o 4._o again_o it_o must_v be_v something_o which_o may_v breed_v a_o stiff_a and_o courageous_a resolution_n that_o the_o heart_n will_v not_o serve_v sin_n but_o will_v go_v free_a and_o hereupon_o against_o all_o inward_a and_o outward_a opposition_n break_v forth_o into_o the_o use_n of_o victorious_a mean_n now_o than_o the_o direction_n be_v these_o 1._o if_o ever_o thou_o will_v get_v down_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n thou_o must_v look_v up_o to_o god_n and_o christ_n they_o be_v able_a to_o disannul_v the_o covenant_n with_o sin_n and_o to_o subdue_v iniquity_n rom._n 8._o 2._o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o 25._o second_o because_o mere_a power_n do_v not_o do_v it_o but_o power_n in_o a_o quality_n work_v through_o some_o quality_n therefore_o beg_v of_o spirit_n beg_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n sin_n the_o light_n though_o it_o be_v but_o a_o little_a at_o first_o yet_o asi_v by_o a_o mighty_a principle_n of_o light_n shall_v conquer_v darkness_n pride_n will_v have_v dominion_n till_o humility_n come_v in_o now_o then_o beg_v of_o god_n for_o grace_n for_o his_o holy_a spirit_n for_o another_o heart_n for_o a_o new_a heart_n and_o a_o new_a spirit_n three_o labour_v earnest_o for_o faith_n if_o two_o thing_n be_v do_v faith_n labour_n for_o faith_n sin_n can_v not_o possible_o continue_v in_o dominion_n viz._n if_o christ_n do_v rule_v in_o the_o soul_n if_o thy_o love_n be_v draw_v off_o from_o sin_n but_o faith_n set_v up_o the_o sceptre_n of_o christ_n it_o will_v know_v no_o lord_n but_o christ_n my_o lord_n and_o my_o god_n say_v believe_v thomas_n and_o faith_n turn_v the_o love_n to_o christ_n make_v christ_n the_o centre_n of_o the_o heart_n o_o it_o represent_v such_o goodness_n such_o excellency_n such_o propriety_n such_o bounty_n such_o love_n in_o christ_n as_o inflame_v the_o heart_n and_o knit_v it_o with_o love_n to_o christ_n again_o nay_o to_o add_v to_o all_o this_o faith_n bestow_v the_o life_n on_o christ_n too_o he_o die_v for_o i_o say_v faith_n i_o judge_v it_o therefore_o most_o reasonable_a that_o i_o shall_v live_v to_o he_o now_o where_o christ_n come_v to_o rule_v and_o have_v love_n and_o life_n there_o sin_n without_o all_o doubt_n lose_v its_o dominion_n 4._o last_o take_v a_o courageous_a resolution_n we_o be_v hold_v many_o time_n by_o our_o lust_n through_o a_o faintness_n of_o spirit_n why_o we_o shall_v resolution_n take_v a_o courageous_a resolution_n never_o get_v down_o these_o sin_n and_o what_o will_v people_n say_v and_o we_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v sol._n why_o up_o and_o be_v do_v for_o what_o be_v past_a the_o lord_n will_v merciful_o pardon_v all_o of_o it_o if_o now_o the_o yoke_n be_v break_v and_o be_v confident_a of_o this_o if_o thou_o be_v set_v against_o thy_o sin_n thou_o do_v that_o which_o god_n like_v very_o well_o for_o he_o have_v command_v thou_o it_o as_o a_o duty_n and_o have_v set_v out_o mean_n and_o promise_v his_o help_n and_o blessing_n therefore_o stand_v precious_a joy_n what_o heavenly_a consolation_n what_o peace_n here_o what_o hope_n for_o hereafter_o well_o come_v of_o it_o what_o will_v though_o i_o have_v be_v sinful_a i_o will_v not_o still_o continue_v so_o to_o god_n will_v i_o come_v to_o christ_n will_v i_o go_v i_o will_v beseech_v they_o to_o have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o a_o sinner_n and_o to_o give_v i_o grace_n and_o to_o change_v my_o heart_n i_o will_v not_o serve_v my_o base_a lust_n any_o long_o i_o will_v never_o leave_v pray_v hear_v read_v studi_a inquire_a work_a till_o i_o be_v deliver_v from_o this_o bondage_n and_o translate_v into_o the_o glorious_a liberty_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n lie_v against_o actual_a dominion_n wherein_o actual_a dominion_n lie_v 2._o against_o actual_a dominion_n thus_o for_o direction_n against_o the_o natural_a dominion_n of_o sin_n now_o i_o proceed_v to_o some_o help_n against_o actual_a dominion_n which_o be_v the_o particular_a prevalency_n of_o a_o sin_n into_o act_n let_v i_o premise_v a_o proposition_n or_o two_o and_o then_o you_o shall_v have_v the_o special_a direction_n themselves_o 1._o actual_a dominion_n i_o speak_v in_o respect_n of_o gross_a act_n be_v usual_o in_o respect_n of_o some_o particular_a lust_n which_o work_v with_o more_o strength_n in_o the_o soul_n than_o any_o other_o lust_n though_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o in_o every_o man_n there_o be_v a_o universal_a root_n of_o sin_v yet_o you_o find_v it_o in_o experience_n that_o the_o multitude_n of_o sinful_a inclination_n and_o thought_n and_o temptation_n run_v ordinary_o in_o some_o peculiar_a way_n with_o most_o frequency_n and_o violence_n second_o actual_a dominion_n be_v ordinary_o by_o such_o a_o sin_n which_o have_v the_o advantage_n of_o a_o natural_a complexion_n and_o outward_a condition_n and_o occasion_n and_o affection_n upon_o these_o do_v sin_n set_v the_o temptation_n as_o a_o engineer_n do_v place_v his_o battery_n upon_o such_o a_o simile_n simile_n piece_n of_o ground_n which_o do_v best_a advantage_n and_o further_a his_o shot_n against_o a_o city_n a_o man_n natural_a temper_n and_o complexion_n do_v mighty_o facilitate_v his_o act_n and_o a_o man_n calling_n or_o condition_n of_o life_n may_v accidental_o be_v a_o forcible_a persuasion_n to_o he_o to_o much_o infidelity_n and_o impatience_n and_o indirectness_n and_o occasion_n in_o converse_v active_o or_o passive_o have_v infinite_a bait_n in_o they_o and_o when_o our_o affection_n may_v run_v in_o some_o lawful_a measure_n and_o manner_n there_o sin_n take_v occasion_n to_o tempt_v and_o prevail_v with_o ease_n if_o we_o look_v not_o to_o it_o he_o may_v quick_o be_v cast_v down_o by_o a_o sinful_a temptation_n who_o be_v already_o prepare_v thereunto_o by_o a_o sinful_a faction_n therefore_o if_o
be_v to_o it_o as_o a_o medicine_n to_o a_o disease_n or_o as_o water_n to_o spot_n or_o as_o health_n to_o sickness_n gradual_o alter_v heal_a cleanse_v another_o be_v the_o gild_n which_o bind_v over_o the_o sinner_n to_o punishment_n wrath_n and_o damnation_n this_o be_v the_o object_n of_o forgiveness_n in_o it_o sin_n be_v not_o heal_v but_o pardon_v the_o disposition_n of_o the_o sinner_n be_v not_o alter_v but_o his_o condition_n when_o the_o king_n pardon_v a_o thief_n his_o theft_n now_o shall_v not_o prejudice_v he_o so_o in_o god_n merciful_a forgiveness_n sinful_a guilt_n be_v so_o effectual_o remove_v that_o final_o and_o redundant_o it_o shall_v never_o prejudice_v the_o eternal_a life_n and_o salvation_n of_o the_o person_n much_o more_o may_v be_v say_v of_o this_o will_v have_v mercy_n on_o he_o and_o to_o our_o god_n for_o he_o will_v abundant_o pardon_v here_o he_o speak_v to_o the_o wicked_a and_o to_o the_o unrighteous_a person_n and_o indefinite_o to_o
