bright_a beam_n of_o god_n mercy_n break_v forth_o and_o shine_v upon_o our_o heart_n after_o a_o dark_a and_o cloudy_a night_n of_o affliction_n it_o be_v most_o comfortable_a to_o glad_a and_o rejoice_v the_o distress_a soul_n of_o a_o poor_a sinner_n nay_o in_o the_o second_o similitude_n he_o show_v that_o the_o come_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v be_v not_o only_o joyful_a and_o very_a his_o come_n to_o help_v we_o be_v prepare_v and_o therefore_o most_o certain_a and_o he_o shall_v come_v as_o the_o morning_n and_o therefore_o most_o comfortable_a for_o as_o the_o bright_a beam_n and_o clear_a countenance_n of_o the_o sun_n after_o a_o windy_a &_o boisterous_a night_n be_v very_o comfortable_a even_o so_o when_o after_o a_o cloudy_a night_n of_o affliction_n wherein_o we_o have_v be_v wound_v and_o break_v in_o our_o soul_n for_o our_o sin_n the_o bright_a beam_n of_o god_n mercy_n break_v then_o forth_o shall_v be_v most_o comfortable_a to_o glad_a and_o rejoice_v make_v our_o punishment_n answerable_a to_o tyrus_n &_o sydon_n yea_o to_o sodom_n &_o gomer_n yea_o their_o judgement_n shall_v be_v light_a than_o we_o as_o our_o saviour_n say_v 16.46.53_o mat._n 11.20.21_o ezech._n 16.46.53_o it_o shall_v be_v easy_a for_o sodom_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n then_o for_o you_o and_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o prophet_n ezechiel_n threaten_v thus_o that_o because_o the_o iniquity_n of_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n be_v like_a unto_o the_o sodomite_n therefore_o will_v i_o bring_v again_o their_o captivity_n and_o the_o captivity_n of_o sodom_n and_o her_o daughter_n and_o the_o captivity_n of_o samaria_n and_o her_o daughter_n even_o the_o captivity_n of_o thy_o captive_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o they_o and_o sure_o if_o we_o shall_v grow_v worse_a than_o other_o place_n and_o abound_v in_o sin_n more_o than_o other_o man_n how_o can_v we_o but_o look_v to_o reap_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o punishment_n they_o other_o there_o be_v no_o sin_n great_a than_o the_o contempt_n of_o the_o gospel_n nor_o no_o mercy_n great_a than_o the_o peaceable_a enjoy_n of_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o no_o punishment_n or_o reward_n of_o sin_n shall_v be_v more_o horrible_a than_o the_o punishment_n that_o shall_v be_v infflict_v for_o the_o neglect_n or_o contempt_n thereof_o oh_o take_v we_o heed_v then_o lest_o we_o contemn_v the_o gospel_n and_o so_o be_v find_v guilty_a of_o one_o of_o the_o great_a sin_n we_o incur_v god_n wrath_n against_o we_o and_o cause_v he_o to_o bring_v upon_o we_o his_o great_a punishment_n second_o see_v the_o lord_n do_v threaten_v here_o use_v 2_o even_o gilead_n one_o of_o those_o six_o city_n of_o refuge_n and_o the_o city_n that_o be_v inhabit_v with_o the_o priest_n and_o levite_n place_n religion_n be_v not_o tie_v to_o one_o place_n that_o even_o gilead_n shall_v be_v cut_v off_o and_o slay_v as_o in_o the_o five_o verse_n go_v before_o that_o be_v that_o god_n will_v bring_v to_o pass_v upon_o gilead_n all_o those_o threaten_n which_o his_o servant_n the_o prophet_n have_v denounce_v in_o his_o name_n hence_o we_o see_v that_o religion_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n be_v not_o tie_v to_o any_o place_n to_o any_o kingdom_n town_n or_o city_n no_o long_o than_o they_o do_v walk_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n and_o of_o the_o true_a service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n yea_o if_o jerusalem_n that_o holy_a city_n the_o wonder_n of_o the_o world_n that_o place_n which_o god_n himself_o have_v choose_v fall_v from_o god_n and_o begin_v to_o forsake_v his_o son_n christ_n and_o to_o contemn_v his_o son_n christ_n jerusalem_n then_o must_v look_v for_o heavy_a plague_n and_o grievous_a judgement_n yea_o if_o gilead_n that_o be_v so_o privilege_v above_o other_o city_n and_o place_n of_o the_o world_n will_v not_o walk_v holy_o and_o bear_v themselves_o thankful_o in_o the_o day_n of_o peace_n the_o lord_n will_v not_o fail_v to_o bring_v even_o upon_o gilead_n many_o plague_n and_o grievous_a judgement_n against_o sin_n oh_o then_o if_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v be_v write_v for_o our_o learning_n then_o let_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o this_o city_n be_v a_o warning_n to_o we_o all_o we_o have_v by_o god_n mercy_n the_o pure_a service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n his_o gospel_n sincere_o preach_v and_o teach_v among_o we_o almost_o these_o threescore_o year_n together_o now_o let_v we_o see_v whether_o our_o case_n be_v not_o like_o the_o state_n of_o gilead_n they_o be_v grievous_a sinner_n so_o be_v we_o among_o they_o be_v find_v many_o great_a and_o grievous_a sin_n a_o city_n that_o abound_v with_o all_o manner_n of_o iniquity_n as_o swear_v lie_a deceit_n murder_n oppression_n uncleanness_n etc._n etc._n and_o be_v not_o we_o guilty_a of_o the_o same_o sin_n yes_o yes_o they_o be_v never_o more_o plenty_n in_o gilead_n then_o they_o be_v in_o england_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v well_o fear_v that_o we_o that_o have_v be_v like_o to_o gilead_n in_o sin_n shall_v one_o day_n be_v like_a to_o they_o in_o their_o punishment_n the_o lord_n by_o his_o prophet_n amos_n have_v threaten_v there_o a_o great_a and_o a_o grievous_a judgement_n against_o the_o neglect_n and_o contempt_n of_o his_o word_n and_o other_o the_o gracious_a mean_n that_o he_o do_v vouchsafe_v unto_o we_o for_o our_o good_a behold_v the_o day_n come_v say_v the_o lord_n 8.11_o amos._n 8.11_o that_o i_o will_v send_v a_o famine_n into_o the_o land_n not_o a_o famine_n of_o bread_n or_o thirst_n of_o water_n but_o of_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n oh_o it_o be_v great_o to_o be_v fear_v that_o we_o may_v one_o day_n feel_v the_o smart_n of_o this_o judgement_n the_o want_n of_o the_o word_n and_o glorious_a gospel_n of_o christ_n that_o make_v so_o light_a account_n of_o the_o same_o in_o the_o time_n of_o peace_n then_o shall_v we_o mourn_v then_o shall_v we_o lament_v then_o shall_v we_o lie_v in_o the_o dust_n than_o we_o shall_v weep_v and_o wail_v and_o wring_v our_o hand_n and_o wish_v that_o we_o may_v hear_v if_o it_o be_v but_o one_o sermon_n to_o comfort_v our_o distress_a soul_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n if_o we_o consider_v god_n deal_v towards_o we_o we_o may_v see_v that_o these_o black_a stormy_a day_n be_v draw_v on_o do_v not_o the_o lord_n pick_v out_o from_o among_o we_o the_o most_o renown_a man_n from_o church_n and_o common_a wealth_n the_o pillar_n of_o the_o church_n and_o stay_v of_o religion_n do_v not_o the_o lord_n even_o by_o this_o mean_n give_v we_o a_o fair_a warning_n that_o unless_o we_o amend_v and_o become_v sincere_a christian_n and_o be_v zealous_a in_o his_o service_n and_o worship_n and_o more_o high_o
