christ_n come_v in_o particular_a to_o such_o and_o such_o soul_n and_o call_v they_o in_o a_o particular_a special_a manner_n for_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n they_o be_v bind_v in_o the_o preach_a proclamation_n and_o this_o be_v encouragement_n to_o come_v but_o now_o suppose_v there_o be_v some_o poor_a traitor_n that_o because_o sensible_a of_o his_o wickedness_n and_o how_o unreasonable_o he_o have_v deal_v with_o his_o prince_n and_o may_v be_v sit_v alone_o bemoan_v his_o condition_n and_o trouble_v in_o his_o spirit_n and_o think_v with_o himself_o how_o shall_v i_o be_v able_a to_o see_v the_o face_n of_o my_o prince_n oh_o woe_n to_o i_o for_o the_o wickedness_n of_o my_o way_n suppose_v the_o prince_n shall_v come_v by_o and_o behold_v such_o a_o one_o take_v notice_n of_o acknowledge_v that_o it_o be_v through_o grace_n that_o he_o have_v but_o somewhat_o which_o god_n work_v through_o he_o that_o be_v the_o most_o natural_a to_o a_o rational_a creature_n to_o rest_v upon_o somewhat_o that_o he_o do_v to_o make_v up_o his_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o to_o be_v his_o righteousness_n before_o god_n and_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o god_n to_o beat_v off_o the_o heart_n from_o this_o especial_o the_o heart_n come_v thus_o far_o to_o say_v it_o be_v true_a i_o can_v do_v nothing_o of_o myself_o but_o it_o be_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o i_o do_v all_o now_o for_o the_o heart_n not_o to_o rest_v upon_o this_o as_o its_o own_o righteousness_n this_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o although_o man_n may_v be_v convince_v in_o their_o judgement_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o rest_v in_o any_o such_o thing_n but_o go_v out_o of_o themselves_o to_o another_o principle_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v off_o from_o it_o and_o it_o be_v that_o make_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n the_o most_o difficult_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n because_o it_o carry_v the_o soul_n out_o of_o itself_o from_o its_o own_o bottom_n from_o its_o own_o principle_n and_o the_o mistake_n of_o this_o thing_n be_v that_o that_o be_v the_o undo_n of_o thousand_o of_o those_o that_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o when_o they_o have_v somewhat_o reform_v their_o life_n and_o think_v they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v thus_o and_o thus_o yet_o here_o they_o rest_n and_o go_v not_o out_o of_o themselves_o to_o look_v for_o rest_n out_o of_o themselves_o and_o do_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n quest_n you_o will_v say_v what_o not_o rest_n upon_o what_o we_o do_v and_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v upon_o god_n grace_n faith_n itself_o be_v a_o rest_v upon_o christ_n ans_fw-fr no_o but_o this_o you_o must_v observe_v in_o your_o come_n you_o must_v not_o rest_v upon_o your_o our_o very_a believe_a and_o christ_n must_v be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o have_v true_a rest_n in_o therefore_o faith_n be_v a_o supernatural_a grace_n because_o by_o that_o we_o be_v take_v off_o from_o what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o and_o carry_v on_o to_o somewhat_o else_o 6._o upon_o this_o follow_v likewise_o that_o faith_n be_v a_o humble_v grace_n it_o be_v that_o that_o must_v needs_o humble_a the_o soul_n where_o it_o be_v for_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n for_o a_o creature_n to_o come_v to_o be_v willing_a to_o rely_v upon_o free_a grace_n for_o the_o soul_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o acknowledge_v there_o be_v no_o worthiness_n no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o itself_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v content_a to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o al._n be_v there_o any_o thing_n more_o hard_a to_o any_o of_o you_o then_o to_o live_v to_o be_v beggar_n all_o your_o day_n to_o be_v behold_v to_o other_o so_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o nothing_o else_o all_o the_o day_n of_o your_o life_n now_o for_o the_o creature_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n to_o all_o eternity_n upon_o nothing_o but_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o upon_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n without_o ourselves_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o empty_v of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o self_n denial_n and_o therefore_o in_o rom._n 10.3_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o jew_n for_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n righteousness_n and_o go_v about_o to_o establish_v their_o own_o righteousness_n have_v not_o submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n this_o plain_o show_v that_o the_o bring_v the_o heart_n to_o rest_v upon_o the_o righteousness_n that_o be_v of_o god_n by_o faith_n for_o that_o be_v mean_v here_o require_v a_o submission_n of_o the_o heart_n a_o lay_v down_o the_o heart_n and_o a_o humble_v of_o the_o heart_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o very_a ground_n why_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o humble_a the_o spirit_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n when_o he_o bring_v they_o to_o christ_n because_o that_o the_o lord_n know_v that_o the_o very_a act_n the_o come_n to_o christ_n be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n because_o the_o heart_n must_v be_v empty_v of_o itself_o in_o that_o that_o be_v so_o much_o against_o the_o pride_n of_o man_n heart_n to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o nothing_o else_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o man_n do_v more_o desire_n then_o to_o have_v somewhat_o some_o stock_n of_o himself_o to_o live_v upon_o and_o indeed_o herein_o man_n come_v to_o be_v more_o humble_a than_o adam_n in_o innocency_n can_v be_v for_o adam_n have_v a_o stock_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o himself_o not_o but_o god_n be_v the_o principle_n of_o it_o but_o then_o god_n give_v it_o he_o to_o live_v upon_o the_o stock_n of_o grace_n he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o hand_n but_o now_o in_o the_o second_o adam_n the_o way_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o be_v otherwise_o the_o second_o adam_n keep_v the_o stock_n of_o life_n and_o grace_n upon_o which_o our_o soul_n must_v live_v eternal_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n i_o say_v they_o be_v in_o christ_n hand_n not_o in_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o our_o life_n be_v a_o better_a and_o safe_a life_n then_o that_o be_v and_o thereby_o we_o can_v fall_v from_o god_n because_o we_o live_v by_o the_o principle_n of_o life_n that_o be_v in_o he_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mystery_n and_o almost_o impossible_a to_o unfold_v only_o some_o glimmer_n we_o have_v in_o the_o word_n that_o this_o be_v so_o 7._o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o require_v but_o to_o come_v than_o another_o consequence_n will_v follow_v from_o hence_o and_o that_o be_v this_o hence_o then_o believer_n that_o come_v to_o christ_n may_v learn_v this_o lesson_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v and_o to_o suffer_v very_o much_o for_o christ_n after_o they_o come_v because_o there_o be_v nothing_o require_v of_o they_o to_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n but_o only_o to_o come_v i_o strengthen_v the_o inference_n thus_o if_o god_n have_v say_v thus_o indeed_o i_o have_v send_v a_o mediator_n to_o pacify_v my_o wrath_n and_o to_o pardon_v your_o sin_n and_o before_o you_o come_v to_o rest_n i_o require_v that_o you_o shall_v suffer_v so_o many_o hundred_o year_n of_o torment_n in_o fire_n and_o that_o shall_v be_v a_o preparation_n to_o come_v and_o then_o after_o you_o have_v suffer_v so_o much_o than_o you_o shall_v come_v and_o have_v rest_n suppose_v this_o have_v be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n now_o have_v it_o be_v so_o we_o have_v all_o have_v cause_n to_o have_v fall_v upon_o our_o face_n and_o have_v blessed_v his_o great_a name_n that_o we_o can_v have_v peace_n on_o any_o term_n and_o we_o shall_v have_v be_v not_o only_o christ_n what_o do_v thou_o think_v that_o mercy_n be_v worth_a that_o cost_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n thou_o think_v thou_o be_v a_o great_a sinner_n and_o that_o it_o must_v be_v wonderful_a mercy_n that_o must_v save_v thy_o soul_n it_o be_v true_a and_o it_o be_v well_o thou_o think_v so_o but_o now_o consider_v further_a sinner_n what_o do_v thou_o think_v of_o the_o mercy_n that_o shall_v be_v as_o much_o worth_n as_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o he_o to_o be_v make_v a_o curse_n for_o sinner_n will_v that_o do_v it_o if_o that_o will_v do_v it_o thou_o may_v upon_o these_o term_n because_o he_o be_v not_o so_o vile_a as_o another_o man_n as_o thus_o here_o be_v one_o that_o be_v thus_o vile_a here_o be_v another_o that_o be_v not_o altogether_o so_o vile_a i_o will_v receive_v he_o upon_o this_o ground_n because_o he_o be_v not_o so_o vile_a this_o be_v never_o the_o ground_n but_o when_o he_o receive_v they_o he_o receive_v they_o upon_o free_a grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o how_o vile_a thou_o be_v for_o that_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o christ_n to_o save_v vile_a creature_n and_o he_o save_v none_o but_o those_o that_o come_v as_o beggar_n those_o that_o come_v and_o do_v see_v themselves_o as_o vile_a wretched_a worthless_a unworthy_a miserable_a damn_a dust_n and_o ash_n in_o themselves_o only_o such_o be_v object_n for_o that_o thy_o heart_n can_v think_v of_o o_o the_o great_a embrace_n by_o jesus_n christ_n of_o those_o soul_n that_o come_v to_o he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o very_a reason_n why_o poor_a sinner_n at_o their_o first_o conversion_n have_v their_o heart_n so_o fill_v with_o joy_n because_o at_o their_o first_o come_v to_o christ_n christ_n do_v give_v they_o such_o wonderful_a embracement_n till_o they_o come_v to_o be_v more_o strengthen_v and_o then_o perhaps_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o live_v rather_o by_o faith_n than_o by_o sense_n it_o be_v in_o the_o new_a birth_n as_o in_o the_o birth_n of_o nature_n child_n when_o they_o be_v first_o bear_v they_o shoot_v up_o mighty_o take_v a_o child_n that_o come_v very_o little_a out_o of_o the_o womb_n come_v to_o it_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n after_o the_o child_n be_v shoot_v up_o a_o great_a deal_n you_o may_v see_v it_o a_o great_a deal_n tall_a and_o big_a every_o limb_n increase_v but_o take_v it_o at_o ten_o year_n old_a and_o it_o grow_v not_o so_o much_o then_o as_o at_o the_o first_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o it_o come_v out_o of_o the_o worm_n womb_n it_o can_v not_o subsist_v if_o nature_n do_v not_o hasten_v to_o strengthen_v itself_o at_o first_o so_o man_n when_o they_o come_v to_o christ_n at_o first_o they_o shoot_v up_o and_o grow_v to_o such_o enlargement_n of_o spirit_n and_o they_o do_v so_o sensible_o perceive_v yea_o and_o other_o do_v so_o sensible_o perceive_v a_o great_a growth_n at_o their_o first_o come_v than_o afterward_o because_o when_o they_o first_o come_v christ_n will_v strengthen_v they_o against_o all_o discouragement_n christ_n will_v use_v you_o tender_o christ_n will_v not_o upbraid_v you_o for_o your_o former_a sin_n and_o say_v what!_o you_o that_o have_v live_v a_o profane_a life_n a_o profaner_n of_o my_o ordinance_n a_o scorner_n at_o my_o way_n and_o at_o my_o people_n christ_n will_v not_o upbraid_v the_o soul_n but_o he_o will_v be_v render_v of_o you_o he_o will_v pass_v by_o your_o sin_n and_o heal_v your_o weakness_n he_o will_v not_o break_v the_o bruise_a reed_n nor_o quench_v the_o smoke_a flax._n arg._n viii_o eight_o further_n consider_v the_o infinite_a need_n thy_o soul_n have_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o that_o shall_v drive_v thou_o to_o he_o if_o the_o other_o argument_n do_v not_o draw_v thou_o the_o great_a conveyer_n of_o all_o good_a from_o god_n to_o we_o but_o also_o all_o that_o come_v to_o we_o from_o god_n must_v go_v through_o he_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v cause_n thou_o shall_v hasten_v to_o christ_n and_o never_o be_v at_o quiet_a all_o thy_o life_n till_o thou_o have_v some_o comfortable_a evidence_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v close_v with_o jesus_n christ_n there_o be_v a_o infinite_a necessity_n because_o all_o ordinance_n duty_n service_n whatever_o thou_o do_v do_v thou_o no_o good_a till_o thou_o come_v to_o christ_n arg._n ix_o nine_o yea_o further_o christ_n be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o all_o the_o creature_n one_o day_n will_v see_v a_o need_n of_o he_o yea_o all_o that_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o shall_v see_v a_o need_n of_o he_o and_o they_o shall_v curse_v themselves_o that_o when_o they_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v call_v to_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o yet_o notwithstanding_o they_o will_v satisfy_v themselves_o in_o the_o lust_n of_o their_o spirit_n christ_n come_v from_o heaven_n once_o to_o we_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n but_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v come_v again_o in_o his_o glory_n with_o all_o his_o angel_n all_o his_o saint_n about_o he_o and_o then_o how_o happy_a will_v those_o appear_v that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o life_n when_o they_o be_v call_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n when_o christ_n come_v thus_o in_o his_o glory_n perhaps_o you_o will_v then_o all_o go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n no_o friend_n if_o you_o will_v stay_v till_o then_o you_o will_v heaâ—_n another_o voice_n from_o christ_n he_o will_v not_o come_v to_o call_v sinner_n to_o come_v to_o he_o then_o but_o he_o will_v come_v to_o bid_v they_o depart_v from_o he_o for_o all_o that_o the_o father_n give_v he_o do_v come_v to_o he_o before_o then_o arg._n x._o yea_o and_o yet_o further_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o this_o that_o while_o you_o have_v hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o a_o poor_a minister_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n to_o call_v you_o unto_o he_o to_o draw_v you_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o if_o you_o shall_v reject_v this_o invitation_n and_o other_o invitation_n that_o you_o have_v by_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n know_v that_o of_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o you_o commit_v in_o all_o your_o life_n this_o will_v prove_v to_o be_v the_o great_a that_o you_o have_v stand_v
out_o against_o this_o invitation_n it_o be_v that_o that_o will_v aggravate_v all_o your_o sin_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o may_v think_v well_o this_o be_v a_o encouragement_n to_o sinner_n we_o be_v call_v to_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v tell_v that_o the_o vile_a may_v come_v to_o he_o and_o christ_n will_v receive_v they_o this_o be_v well_o but_o yet_o if_o thou_o will_v reject_v this_o invitation_n and_o shall_v yet_o let_v out_o thy_o heart_n to_o other_o vanity_n and_o to_o the_o satisfy_n of_o thy_o sinful_a lust_n this_o i_o say_v this_o invitation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n will_v be_v the_o great_a aggravation_n of_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o commit_v in_o all_o thy_o life_n thy_o whoredom_n thy_o drunkenness_n thy_o swear_n all_o thy_o sabbath_n break_v will_v not_o be_v so_o heavy_a upon_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v so_o deep_a upon_o the_o score_n as_o one_o rejection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n call_v thou_o to_o come_v to_o he_o and_o therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o abuse_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n in_o call_v you_o to_o come_v to_o he_o for_o know_v if_o there_o can_v be_v any_o sign_n give_v to_o know_v who_o be_v reprobate_n and_o who_o not_o i_o will_v rather_o pitch_v upon_o this_o sign_n one_o that_o shall_v go_v away_o after_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v open_v to_o he_o and_o he_o invite_v to_o come_v to_o christ_n one_o that_o shall_v go_v away_o notwithstanding_o harden_v in_o sin_n i_o say_v i_o shall_v rather_o pitch_v upon_o this_o than_o any_o other_o sign_n there_o be_v no_o sin_n harden_v the_o heart_n of_o god_n more_o than_o this_o i_o will_v give_v you_o one_o scripture_n for_o this_o in_o luke_n 14.16_o 17._o when_o god_n as_o the_o master_n of_o the_o great_a feast_n send_v his_o servant_n and_o invite_v man_n to_o come_v to_o the_o wedding_n that_o be_v in_o truth_n to_o do_v that_o that_o i_o have_v be_v do_v all_o this_o while_n to_o invite_v poor_a sinner_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n now_o divers_a make_v excuse_n some_o have_v bouhgt_v ox_n other_o have_v buy_v farm_n and_o other_o have_v marry_v wife_n well_o mark_v at_o the_o 24._o verse_n the_o doom_n of_o those_o that_o do_v not_o come_v in_o upon_o their_o invitation_n very_o say_v god_n those_o man_n that_o be_v bid_v shall_v never_o taste_v of_o my_o supper_n what!_o say_v god_n to_o his_o servant_n have_v you_o invite_v they_o to_o come_v in_o and_o will_v they_o not_o no_o they_o have_v other_o thing_n in_o their_o head_n their_o farm_n their_o yoke_n of_o ox_n their_o profit_n and_o pleasure_n what_o will_v they_o reject_v such_o grace_n and_o favour_n when_o i_o invite_v they_o to_o come_v to_o the_o marriage_n of_o my_o son_n very_o say_v god_n they_o shall_v never_o have_v any_o good_a by_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o it_o be_v a_o dreadful_a doom_n to_o be_v pass_v upon_o any_o soul_n god_n forbid_v it_o shall_v be_v pass_v upon_o any_o soul_n and_o yet_o when_o we_o come_v to_o open_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n we_o can_v speak_v of_o it_o without_o tremble_a heart_n without_o fear_n lest_o some_o shall_v be_v harden_v and_o so_o god_n provoke_v by_o their_o resist_n of_o thiâ—_n grace_n of_o he_o this_o man_n and_o this_o woman_n that_o sit_v upon_o such_o a_o stool_n that_o be_v not_o take_v with_o this_o grace_n of_o god_n before_o that_o infinite_a grace_n of_o he_o and_o shall_v admire_v it_o and_o their_o heart_n shall_v be_v take_v with_o it_o and_o they_o shall_v join_v with_o he_o and_o say_v oh_o lord_n we_o their_o salvation_n which_o can_v not_o be_v in_o the_o other_o covenant_n we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o law_n do_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n now_o o_o what_o a_o bondage_n be_v this_o that_o when_o i_o be_o sorrowful_a for_o my_o sin_n and_o think_v that_o god_n will_v pardon_v i_o than_o i_o be_o curse_v by_o such_o a_o law_n that_o will_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n but_o this_o it_o do_v draw_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n never_o find_v such_o a_o prevalent_a way_n to_o overcome_v those_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o it_o as_o to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o mark_v the_o difference_n between_o presumption_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n presumption_n will_v trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n notwithstanding_o their_o sin_n but_o that_o do_v indeed_o foment_n their_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n make_v they_o the_o more_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v by_o the_o true_a geminine_a act_n of_o faith_n rest_n in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n if_o it_o be_v right_a such_o a_o soul_n feel_v no_o mean_n in_o the_o world_n of_o great_a efficacy_n to_o cure_v and_o prevail_v against_o corruption_n then_o this_o to_o trust_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n and_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o thus_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o fear_v trust_v in_o god_n grace_n with_o confidence_n for_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n and_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o and_o that_o which_o give_v as_o much_o content_n to_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o that_o regard_n because_o the_o saint_n shall_v never_o exercise_v such_o a_o act_n of_o faith_n in_o heaven_n â—s_v this_o god_n will_v have_v this_o in_o this_o world_n 3._o this_o be_v that_o that_o god_n see_v do_v drive_v in_o this_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o humility_n the_o keep_v the_o soul_n of_o his_o people_n in_o humility_n and_o the_o contrition_n of_o their_o spirit_n that_o be_v exceed_o please_a to_o god_n the_o lord_n be_v near_o to_o a_o break_a contrite_a heart_n a_o melt_a mourn_a spirit_n the_o lord_n do_v delight_n in_o the_o evangelical_a work_n of_o repentance_n this_o please_v the_o lord_n the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourning_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n be_v a_o grace_n that_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n god_n here_o be_v heaven_n here_o be_v the_o riches_n of_o heaven_n the_o riches_n of_o christ_n be_v you_o and_o then_o do_v the_o soul_n come_v to_o christ_n indeed_o when_o it_o lay_v all_o upon_o its_o own_o heart_n and_o see_v no_o other_o matter_n but_o discouragement_n whereas_o it_o shall_v keep_v up_o its_o eye_n upon_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o god_n who_o be_v open_v his_o arm_n ready_a to_o embrace_v it_o and_o there_o be_v a_o secret_a power_n and_o influence_n that_o come_v from_o christ_n unto_o the_o soul_n to_o draw_v the_o soul_n to_o he_o so_o long_o as_o the_o soul_n keep_v christ_n in_o his_o eye_n as_o the_o poor_a woman_n say_v if_o i_o can_v but_o touch_v the_o hem_n of_o his_o garment_n nay_o you_o may_v go_v further_o than_o so_o and_o have_v a_o degree_n of_o faith_n nay_o if_o i_o may_v have_v but_o a_o sight_n of_o christ_n i_o say_v there_o be_v that_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o christ_n that_o will_v draw_v the_o heart_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n as_o they_o say_v of_o some_o kind_n of_o creature_n the_o very_a sight_n of_o they_o will_v kill_v a_o man_n that_o if_o they_o do_v but_o see_v you_o or_o you_o they_o there_o will_v come_v poison_n from_o they_o that_o will_v kill_v you_o say_v the_o naturalist_n but_o i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v true_a of_o this_o that_o if_o you_o can_v keep_v christ_n in_o your_o eye_n the_o very_a sight_n of_o the_o excellency_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v of_o excellent_a virtue_n to_o draw_v the_o soul_n to_o christ_n and_o therefore_o you_o that_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n observe_v this_o some_o that_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n it_o fare_v with_o they_o as_o with_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n when_o they_o be_v go_v to_o canaan_n they_o have_v go_v a_o pretty_a way_n and_o make_v some_o progress_n but_o then_o they_o fall_v into_o discontent_n when_o they_o find_v a_o little_a discouragement_n and_o upon_o that_o they_o be_v bring_v back_o again_o and_o wander_v forty_o year_n up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o wilderness_n and_o this_o be_v the_o punishment_n of_o their_o murmur_a and_o discontent_a so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o that_o be_v go_v out_o of_o their_o natural_a state_n unto_o jesus_n grant_v you_o trouble_v for_o sin_n be_v a_o good_a thing_n and_o you_o be_v to_o be_v glad_a of_o it_o but_o if_o your_o trouble_n for_o sin_n hinder_v you_o from_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o make_v you_o think_v because_o you_o be_v so_o unworthy_a you_o may_v not_o come_v to_o he_o this_o trouble_n be_v not_o mix_v with_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v convince_v of_o this_o rule_n vi_o six_o take_v heed_n of_o all_o kind_n of_o discouragement_n and_o hindrance_n in_o your_o come_n to_o christ_n but_o then_o take_v heed_n especial_o of_o all_o determination_n take_v heed_n of_o ensnare_a your_o soul_n by_o determine_v against_o yourselves_o as_o say_v sure_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o show_v mercy_n to_o i_o the_o time_n be_v past_a the_o lord_n have_v forsake_v i_o i_o have_v use_v so_o much_o mean_v so_o long_a time_n and_o god_n be_v not_o yet_o come_v to_o i_o no_o the_o lord_n never_o intend_v good_a to_o i_o oh_o take_v heed_n of_o these_o determination_n for_o they_o be_v sinful_a wherever_o they_o be_v there_o can_v be_v no_o just_a cause_n in_o thy_o heart_n be_v it_o as_o vile_a as_o it_o will_v for_o such_o determination_n as_o these_o be_v and_o know_v when_o thou_o give_v way_n to_o such_o determination_n as_o these_o thou_o do_v but_o ensnare_v and_o fetter_v thy_o leg_n by_o this_o and_o then_o thou_o say_v thou_o can_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n christ_n call_v to_o thou_o and_o thou_o be_v enfetter_v with_o thy_o own_o thought_n for_o so_o one_o may_v lay_v fetter_n upon_o one_o own_o leg_n by_o one_o own_o thought_n to_o hinder_v this_o state_n of_o believer_n be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n then_o thy_o repentance_n and_o mourning_n be_v acccept_v as_o now_o it_o be_v in_o many_o case_n between_o man_n and_o man_n some_o man_n be_v in_o such_o a_o capacity_n that_o if_o they_o do_v such_o a_o thing_n it_o be_v accept_v but_o if_o another_o man_n that_o be_v not_o in_o the_o same_o capacity_n do_v the_o same_o thing_n he_o will_v not_o be_v accept_v so_o it_o be_v here_o those_o man_n that_o be_v in_o this_o capacity_n in_o christ_n and_o have_v together_o with_o the_o sorrow_n for_o their_o sin_n the_o sorrow_n of_o christ_n present_v to_o the_o father_n can_v thou_o when_o thou_o be_v sorrow_v for_o thy_o sin_n present_v the_o sorrow_n of_o jesus_n christ_n by_o faith_n unto_o the_o father_n then_o thou_o be_v accept_v but_o know_v this_o that_o no_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n be_v accept_v but_o such_o as_o be_v join_v with_o the_o presentation_n of_o the_o sorrow_n of_o christ_n unto_o the_o father_n now_o what_o a_o heart_n remain_v harden_v it_o be_v no_o other_o sorrow_n but_o this_o as_o it_o be_v with_o marble-stone_n the_o marble-stone_n be_v hard_a but_o yet_o in_o wet_a wether_n it_o will_v give_v and_o be_v very_o moist_a but_o still_o it_o be_v as_o hard_a as_o it_o be_v it_o be_v a_o stone_n still_o so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o that_o be_v trouble_v for_o their_o sin_n be_v only_o the_o trouble_n that_o come_v from_o the_o law_n they_o be_v trouble_v but_o yet_o there_o remain_v much_o hardness_n in_o their_o heart_n much_o peevishness_n and_o frowardness_n against_o god_n and_o against_o man_n you_o shall_v find_v in_o many_o people_n who_o have_v trouble_v of_o conscience_n yet_o there_o be_v much_o peevishness_n and_o frowardness_n in_o they_o against_o god_n and_o against_o man_n now_o when_o you_o see_v this_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n manifest_v in_o their_o expression_n way_n and_o conversation_n remember_v the_o stone_n that_o you_o see_v upon_o pavement_n in_o wet_a wether_n they_o give_v and_o may_v be_v water_n trickle_v down_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o they_o remain_v hard_o still_o but_o now_o when_o the_o gospel_n come_v it_o do_v not_o only_o cause_v some_o sorrow_n but_o the_o heart_n melt_v and_o this_o be_v accept_v as_o very_o precious_a before_o god_n and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o we_o have_v in_o scripture_n so_o many_o expression_n of_o god_n high_a esteem_n of_o break_a heart_n and_o contrite_a spirit_n and_o how_o god_n look_v at_o they_o he_o that_o dwell_v on_o high_a yet_o look_v to_o he_o that_o be_v of_o a_o how_o helpful_a this_o will_v be_v to_o they_o and_o something_o for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o those_o that_o doubt_v that_o they_o be_v not_o believer_n but_o we_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n at_o once_o this_o shall_v suffice_v for_o the_o present_a the_o mere_a present_v to_o your_o soul_n what_o rest_v there_o be_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o load_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n from_o the_o load_n that_o many_o feel_v to_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n through_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n chap._n xxxi_o contain_v divers_a consequence_n from_o the_o rest_n believer_n have_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o lesson_n they_o be_v teach_v from_o thence_o to_o proceed_v now_o there_o be_v divers_a thing_n that_o follow_v from_o hence_o from_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o burden_n and_o load_n of_o the_o law_n i_o shall_v speak_v very_o brief_o of_o they_o and_o so_o pass_v to_o what_o remain_v in_o the_o next_o burden_n and_o rest_n to_o that_o from_o hence_o follow_v exceed_v help_n unto_o believer_n against_o divers_a temptation_n that_o do_v exceed_o trouble_v the_o peace_n and_o rest_n of_o their_o soul_n if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o those_o several_a respect_n as_o at_o large_a have_v be_v open_v to_o you_o 1._o then_o first_o from_o the_o meditation_n of_o this_o their_o delivery_n they_o may_v have_v rest_n and_o ease_n from_o this_o temptation_n that_o because_o of_o some_o imperfection_n weakness_n and_o distemper_n of_o heart_n and_o sin_n that_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o therefore_o they_o have_v no_o interest_n at_o all_o in_o christ_n they_o have_v no_o interest_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n because_o of_o that_o the_o strength_n of_o this_o temptation_n can_v stand_v with_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n as_o deliver_v from_o the_o law_n if_o christ_n deliver_v from_o the_o law_n than_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n may_v stand_v though_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o keep_v the_o law_n yea_o and_o further_o we_o know_v this_o that_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o believer_n upon_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o any_o thing_n to_o call_v their_o estate_n into_o question_n all_o into_o question_n certain_o if_o we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n not_o by_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n not_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o the_o law_n we_o will_v never_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o call_v all_o into_o question_n upon_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o our_o conscience_n tell_v we_o we_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o 2._o further_o this_o will_v marvellous_o help_v against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o that_o god_n accept_v not_o of_o what_o we_o do_v because_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_a because_o it_o be_v not_o complete_a when_o believer_n look_v upon_o their_o duty_n that_o they_o do_v perform_v and_o see_v so_o many_o imperfection_n in_o they_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n god_n be_v a_o infinite_a holy_a just_a god_n and_o they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o what_o they_o have_v do_v so_o as_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n now_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n will_v help_v we_o against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o remember_v o_o thou_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n through_o a_o better_a covenant_n than_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o further_o this_o will_v help_v against_o this_o temptation_n also_o that_o many_o time_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o hear_v of_o divers_a that_o have_v seem_v to_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v that_o have_v have_v more_o ability_n than_o they_o have_v have_v have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o for_o god_n than_o they_o have_v do_v yet_o for_o all_o this_o have_v fall_v away_o and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v have_v perish_v for_o ever_o now_o say_v many_o a_o poor_a christian_a if_o such_o eminent_a man_n of_o such_o excellent_a ability_n that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v such_o great_a thing_n if_o they_o that_o go_v thus_o far_o fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n as_o i_o be_o now_o by_o the_o understanding_n of_o our_o deliverance_n that_o we_o have_v from_o the_o law_n by_o christ_n we_o come_v to_o have_v help_n against_o this_o temptation_n for_o let_v a_o man_n have_v never_o such_o ability_n and_o be_v able_a to_o do_v never_o so_o much_o work_v yet_o this_o man_n may_v fall_v away_o when_o one_o that_o be_v a_o thousand_o time_n weak_a in_o regard_n of_o ability_n that_o have_v the_o least_o dram_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o bring_v he_o into_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n will_v stand_v such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v when_o the_o other_o fall_v if_o indeed_o thy_o stand_n do_v depend_v upon_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o than_o thou_o have_v cause_n to_o lear_a that_o see_v such_o as_o do_v stand_v fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o thou_o but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n our_o stand_n or_o fall_v do_v not_o depend_v upon_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o upon_o christ_n that_o have_v undertake_v for_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o member_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o be_v once_o bring_v into_o the_o covenant_n that_o will_v uphold_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v weak_a when_o thousand_o of_o other_o that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n yet_o be_v not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n may_v vanish_v yea_o have_v they_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o angel_n yet_o if_o not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o believer_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v fall_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o whenas_o the_o weak_a believer_n that_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o not_o through_o the_o law_n such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v and_o not_o fall_v now_o the_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o christ_n will_v mighty_o help_v believer_n against_o these_o temptation_n and_o divers_a other_o i_o know_v nothing_o that_o do_v help_v believer_n more_o than_o
