beginning_n that_o there_o remain_v almost_o nothing_o but_o the_o habit_n and_o that_o also_o serve_v to_o puff_n they_o up_o to_o make_v they_o proud_a and_o impudent_a which_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o their_o institution_n but_o to_o contemn_v the_o use_n the_o service_n the_o commodity_n and_o therein_o the_o enjoyance_n and_o pleasure_n of_o the_o world_n what_o accusation_n be_v it_o against_o nature_n that_o invite_v we_o against_o reason_n that_o will_v we_o thereunto_o yea_o against_o the_o author_n that_o make_v they_o to_o these_o end_n what_o ingratitude_n be_v it_o to_o refuse_v that_o which_o god_n love_o offer_n to_o sequester_v ourselves_o from_o the_o company_n of_o the_o world_n and_o from_o the_o enjoy_n of_o earthly_a thing_n because_o of_o their_o danger_n proceed_v as_o a_o reverend_n divine_a say_v from_o a_o weak_a base_a and_o distrustful_a mind_n as_o if_o we_o will_v so_o force_v goodness_n upon_o ourselves_o that_o therefore_o only_o we_o will_v be_v good_a because_o we_o can_v be_v ill_o but_o for_o a_o man_n to_o know_v the_o high_a of_o worldly_a contentment_n to_o live_v in_o the_o throng_n of_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o to_o be_v above_o it_o to_o use_v it_o enjoy_v it_o &_o contemn_v it_o as_o he_o please_v to_o compel_v it_o to_o his_o service_n without_o infection_n well_o become_v the_o noble_a courage_n of_o a_o christian_n no_o man_n indeed_o can_v serve_v two_o master_n we_o can_v serve_v god_n and_o mammon_n let_v we_o then_o make_v the_o world_n our_o slave_n only_a god_n our_o master_n it_o be_v true_a indeed_o then_o to_o be_v servant_n to_o the_o world_n it_o be_v better_a to_o go_v out_o of_o it_o but_o to_o use_v it_o as_o a_o master_n compel_v it_o to_o our_o service_n in_o all_o good_a way_n without_o abuse_n as_o it_o be_v more_o difficult_a then_o to_o sequester_v ourselves_o from_o it_o so_o be_v it_o also_o more_o victorious_a and_o shall_v be_v a_o occasion_n of_o great_a triumph_n and_o bright_a crown_n in_o heaven_n the_o abstract_n of_o the_o sixth_o section_n although_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o terrestrial_a treasure_n honour_n and_o greatness_n also_o earthly_a pleasure_n do_v great_o tempt_v we_o unto_o covetousness_n ambition_n all_o intemperate_a viciousness_n yet_o in_o good_a use_n thereof_o we_o free_o may_v the_o great_a pleasure_n thereof_o still_o enjoy_v we_o may_v enjoy_v earthly_a felicity_n notwithstanding_o their_o impement_n etc._n etc._n such_o man_n as_o object_n against_o the_o free_a and_o cheerful_a enjoyance_n of_o earthly_a felicity_n do_v true_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o enjoyance_n and_o use_n of_o earthly_a happiness_n do_v often_o hinder_v we_o in_o the_o attainment_n and_o also_o enjoyment_n of_o supernatural_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n but_o we_o may_v also_o true_o answer_v &_o be_v to_o know_v that_o it_o be_v indeed_o only_a the_o abuse_n of_o these_o pleasure_n and_o felicity_n that_o hinder_v we_o therein_o otherwise_o in_o their_o good_a use_n they_o may_v serve_v as_o spectacle_n to_o seethe_v by_o the_o more_o clear_o into_o heaven_n and_o may_v further_o we_o in_o all_o good_a heavenly_a way_n they_o may_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o thankfulness_n and_o to_o all_o duty_n of_o piety_n increase_v our_o love_n to_o god_n and_o joy_n in_o he_o they_o may_v be_v notable_a encouragement_n to_o do_v more_o worthy_o and_o to_o go_v on_o more_o cheerful_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o in_o such_o good_a use_n they_o may_v be_v sweet_a and_o pleasant_a addition_n to_o our_o hope_n of_o heaven_n and_o by_o view_v and_o enjoy_v these_o we_o may_v look_v high_o to_o their_o fountain_n contemplate_v the_o excellency_n sweetness_n and_o beauty_n of_o the_o creator_n who_o be_v infinite_o more_o excel_a and_o so_o in_o some_o measure_n espy_v and_o enjoy_v the_o felicity_n of_o heaven_n also_o while_o we_o be_v on_o earth_n but_o of_o this_o more_o at_o large_a in_o the_o next_o section_n and_o therefore_o in_o their_o good_a use_n we_o may_v enjoy_v they_o free_o and_o cheerful_o but_o such_o as_o will_v maintain_v the_o contrary_a do_v further_a object_n to_o this_o purpose_n more_o which_o at_o due_a and_o convenient_a time_n be_v certain_o most_o please_a to_o god_n and_o very_o beneficial_a both_o to_o body_n and_o mind_n disburthen_v the_o same_o of_o many_o gross_a humour_n vapour_n and_o spirit_n and_o so_o take_v away_o sloth_n dulness_n many_o distemper_n &_o make_v our_o mind_n as_o far_o as_o be_v possible_a in_o this_o world_n like_o angel_n most_o free_a quick_a and_o sprightly_a in_o
happiness_n as_o for_o example_n the_o azure_a heaven_n so_o rich_o deck_v and_o counterpoint_v with_o star_n and_o roll_a torch_n never_o cease_v over_o our_o head_n enjoy_v the_o same_o by_o contemplation_n he_o mount_v high_a and_o be_v carry_v with_o admiration_n fear_n love_n and_o reverence_n of_o the_o author_n and_o sovereign_a lord_n of_o all_o so_o that_o we_o can_v even_o by_o our_o corporal_a eye_n from_o the_o earth_n look_v to_o the_o moon_n the_o sun_n the_o starry_a heaven_n and_o therein_o sweet_o please_v ourselves_o in_o the_o view_n and_o contemplation_n of_o their_o glorious_a aspect_n their_o bright_a lovely_a twinkle_a silver_n heavenly_a ray_n from_o thence_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o reason_n we_o can_v see_v further_o to_o the_o crystalline_a heaven_n yea_o to_o the_o imperial_a above_o the_o sphere_n and_o there_o contemplate_v far_o more_o excellent_a glory_n delight_n and_o happiness_n so_o as_o even_o by_o reason_n in_o and_o through_o these_o earthly_a felicity_n our_o dim_a eye_n as_o through_o spectacle_n may_v espy_v some_o light_n of_o god_n himself_o and_o of_o his_o infinite_a beauty_n pleasantness_n sweetness_n and_o excellency_n but_o if_o we_o add_v the_o eye_n of_o faith_n also_o to_o our_o reason_n we_o may_v view_v far_o and_o see_v more_o plain_o this_o author_n of_o all_o happiness_n god_n himself_o and_o his_o celestial_a glory_n and_o taste_v of_o the_o ocean_n of_o his_o infinite_a sweetness_n and_o heavenly_a pleasure_n and_o as_o reason_n so_o faith_n also_o in_o the_o view_n and_o contemplation_n of_o heaven_n may_v make_v a_o very_a good_a use_n of_o earthly_a comparison_n similitude_n delight_n and_o happiness_n we_o often_o find_v in_o the_o sacred_a scripture_n that_o earthly_a comparison_n be_v use_v to_o express_v heavenly_a excellency_n to_o our_o apprehension_n so_o as_o by_o the_o riches_n honour_n kingdom_n crown_n glory_n delight_n and_o pleasure_n of_o the_o earth_n we_o may_v look_v infinite_o high_a by_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n and_o of_o faith_n and_o thereby_o contemplate_v those_o infinite_o more_o excellent_a treasure_n crown_n kingdom_n glory_n and_o delight_n of_o heaven_n faith_n go_v before_o time_n and_o make_v thing_n future_a present_a in_o such_o sort_n as_o thereby_o we_o may_v even_o in_o this_o life_n in_o some_o degree_n possess_v the_o happiness_n of_o heaven_n in_o so_o much_o as_o by_o faithful_a and_o heavenly_a contemplation_n we_o may_v even_o set_v our_o soul_n in_o heaven_n beforehand_o taste_v already_o of_o future_a happiness_n entertain_v ourselves_o with_o god_n himself_o and_o with_o angel_n and_o so_o enjoy_v in_o our_o thought_n and_o contemplation_n a_o paradise_n of_o heavenly_a pleasure_n and_o felicity_n on_o earth_n let_v we_o therefore_o often_o in_o contemplation_n by_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n and_o of_o faith_n which_o be_v the_o best_a optic_n view_v and_o contemplate_v those_o glorious_a crown_n treasure_n delight_n &_o felicity_n which_o we_o expect_v hereafter_o to_o possess_v in_o the_o heaven_n and_o as_o in_o a_o mirror_n behold_v his_o glory_n who_o be_v the_o fountain_n &_o perfection_n of_o all_o pleasure_n &_o happiness_n it_o be_v the_o poor_a despise_a and_o miserable_a man_n only_a hope_n and_o joy_n on_o earth_n to_o be_v rich_a honourable_a and_o happy_a in_o heaven_n the_o rich_a honorarable_a and_o prosperous_a man_n also_o with_o reason_n imagine_v that_o if_o terrestrial_a prosperity_n afford_v he_o some_o felicity_n and_o pleasure_n he_o shall_v be_v much_o more_o happy_a when_o he_o shall_v possess_v those_o eternal_a riches_n honour_n and_o pleasure_n of_o heaven_n let_v our_o soul_n then_o often_o soar_v aloft_o upon_o the_o wing_n of_o reason_n and_o of_o faith_n unto_o the_o empyrean_a heaven_n where_o our_o desire_n shall_v be_v accomplish_v with_o all_o manner_n of_o felicity_n will_v we_o have_v throne_n this_o imperial_a heaven_n shall_v be_v our_o footstool_n will_v we_o have_v crown_n glory_n and_o immortality_n shall_v environ_v our_o head_n do_v we_o desire_v treasure_n inestimable_a riches_n be_v in_o this_o house_n of_o our_o god_n will_v we_o have_v pleasure_n river_n of_o pleasure_n be_v at_o his_o right_a hand_n for_o evermore_o let_v we_o then_o untie_v ourselves_o from_o the_o covetous_a ambitious_a intemperate_a and_o vicious_a desire_n of_o these_o earthly_a felicity_n and_o with_o a_o pitch_n full_a of_o desire_n and_o love_n elevate_v our_o thought_n to_o those_o most_o glorious_a riches_n kingdom_n and_o pleasure_n of_o heaven_n the_o riches_n of_o the_o world_n so_o much_o as_o we_o do_v possess_v in_o the_o good_a use_n thereof_o let_v we_o still_o enjoy_v free_o and_o cheerful_o only_o let_v we_o convert_v our_o covetous_a base_a sordid_a and_o vicious_a desire_n thereof_o to_o the_o love_n desire_v and_o enjoyance_n of_o a_o content_a mind_n and_o of_o the_o riches_n of_o divine_a grace_n those_o eternal_a treasure_n of_o heaven_n yea_o even_o to_o possess_v god_n himself_o in_o such_o desire_n let_v we_o great_o rejoice_v so_o also_o honour_n and_o good_a repute_n may_v we_o still_o enjoy_v and_o instead_o of_o that_o ravenous_a and_o unsatiable_a thirst_n of_o airy_a and_o vain_a honour_n compose_v of_o pride_n vainglory_n hypocrisy_n and_o sundry_a vice_n let_v every_o one_o of_o we_o aspire_v by_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o divine_a power_n to_o be_v lord_n of_o himself_o the_o world_n master_n to_o triumph_v over_o all_o infernal_a power_n to_o be_v a_o son_n of_o god_n a_o heir_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o in_o such_o desire_n and_o aspiration_n let_v we_o take_v marvellous_a joy_n and_o pleasure_n all_o lawful_a and_o good_a pleasure_n also_o in_o such_o good_a use_n let_v we_o free_o enjoy_v only_o let_v we_o convert_v our_o vain_a vicious_a unlawful_a intemperate_a desire_n thereof_o to_o desire_v and_o wish_v for_o those_o most_o sweet_a pleasure_n which_o proceed_v from_o a_o happy_a tranquillity_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o joy_n in_o god_n and_o to_o taste_v in_o some_o measure_n before_o hand_n of_o that_o divine_a manna_n that_o celestial_a nectar_n those_o fountain_n of_o pleasure_n which_o we_o hope_v and_o expect_v to_o enjoy_v with_o god_n himself_o for_o ever_o in_o the_o heaven_n let_v we_o then_o free_o and_o cheerful_o walk_v into_o this_o terrestrial_a paradise_n the_o vast_a palace_n of_o the_o world_n and_o enjoy_v the_o felicity_n thereof_o for_o to_o this_o end_n they_o be_v create_v that_o we_o shall_v use_v they_o well_o and_o so_o enjoy_v they_o even_o the_o mean_a delight_n thereof_o be_v ordain_v for_o this_o purpose_n and_o may_v be_v of_o excellent_a use_n as_o for_o example_n the_o chirp_n of_o bird_n who_o learn_v to_o sing_v of_o nature_n to_o charm_v our_o ear_n through_o the_o sweet_a harmony_n of_o their_o warble_n when_o these_o please_v our_o ear_n then_o may_v we_o think_v of_o the_o sweet_a music_n of_o saint_n and_o angel_n which_o shall_v ravish_v our_o spirit_n and_o the_o fountain_n though_o insensible_a yet_o strive_v with_o the_o sweet_a murmur_n of_o their_o pretty_a purl_n to_o afford_v we_o delectation_n when_o this_o delight_v our_o thought_n then_o may_v we_o contemplate_v those_o heavenly_a fountain_n of_o life_n which_o shall_v fill_v we_o with_o extreme_a delectation_n for_o ever_o in_o this_o terrestrial_a palace_n the_o spring_n the_o summer_n and_o autumn_n be_v incessant_o busy_v in_o produce_v our_o happiness_n for_o a_o season_n but_o let_v we_o think_v in_o the_o celestial_a paradise_n a_o eternity_n shall_v accomplish_v we_o with_o more_o felicity_n than_o we_o can_v imagine_v here_o we_o see_v the_o sun_n moon_n star_n the_o sky_n fire_n torch_n pearl_n gold_n and_o divers_a other_o glorious_a sight_n and_o beauty_n let_v we_o then_o think_v of_o that_o glory_n of_o which_o if_o we_o can_v with_o saint_n peter_n espy_v but_o one_o ray_n we_o shall_v like_v he_o be_v so_o dazzle_v at_o the_o glitter_a thereof_o as_o we_o shall_v for_o ever_o desire_v to_o dwell_v there_o and_o to_o build_v tabernacle_n when_o we_o see_v and_o taste_v of_o sweet_a and_o pleasant_a cate_n banquet_v festival_n and_o dainty_a meat_n of_o all_o sort_n of_o sparkle_a and_o delicious_a wine_n and_o other_o please_a liquor_n let_v we_o then_o think_v of_o that_o celestial_a manna_n the_o food_n of_o heaven_n of_o that_o divine_a nectar_n the_o sweetness_n of_o eternal_a joy_n and_o happiness_n that_o everlasting_a lovefeast_n to_o which_o the_o angel_n shall_v invite_v we_o and_o where_o we_o shall_v enjoy_v infinite_a pleasure_n and_o happiness_n for_o ever_o this_o divine_a manna_n this_o of_o siren_n tempt_v unto_o ill_a desire_n can_v yet_o be_v chaste_a and_o temperate_a shall_v be_v reward_v great_o for_o such_o victory_n in_o heaven_n with_o inestimable_a treasure_n with_o crown_n of_o glory_n with_o eternal_a pleasure_n most_o certain_o indeed_o thrice_o bless_v then_o be_v such_o great_a mighty_a rich_a and_o noble_a man_n who_o notwithstanding_o many_o strong_a temptation_n external_a happiness_n be_v not_o contrary_a but_o rather_o in_o the_o good_a use_n thereof_o may_v be_v a_o furtherance_n both_o to_o internal_a and_o eternal_a happiness_n they_o will_v with_o more_o swift_a desire_n run_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v they_o both_o to_o the_o felicity_n of_o earth_n and_o heaven_n and_o also_o because_o the_o too_o rigid_a and_o stoical_a severity_n of_o many_o man_n both_o in_o their_o carriage_n and_o writing_n be_v a_o great_a occasion_n that_o multitude_n of_o people_n in_o the_o world_n especial_o such_o as_o be_v young_a and_o of_o a_o pleasant_a nature_n will_v not_o follow_v the_o divine_a precept_n of_o verve_v and_o religion_n think_v the_o same_o too_o severe_a monkish_a and_o solitary_a whereas_o indeed_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n and_o virtue_n be_v most_o lovely_a pleasant_a and_o beneficial_a her_o way_n be_v way_n of_o pleasantness_n and_o her_o path_n be_v peace_n proverb_n 3.17_o the_o same_o be_v sufficient_a to_o guerdon_v the_o follower_n thereof_o even_o in_o this_o life_n with_o perfect_a pleasure_n and_o a_o multitude_n of_o benefit_n it_o be_v no_o way_n deficient_a but_o in_o all_o respect_v amiable_a and_o excellent_a add_v to_o the_o pleasantness_n and_o delight_n of_o earthly_a pleasure_n felicity_n and_o recreation_n and_o make_v these_o also_o serve_v to_o increase_v heavenly_a joy_n and_o consolation_n and_o when_o our_o mind_n be_v raise_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o heavenly_a pleasure_n we_o may_v then_o also_o enjoy_v the_o felicity_n of_o the_o earth_n with_o a_o heavenly_a mind_n let_v we_o therefore_o endeavour_v by_o and_o through_o these_o low_a delight_n and_o happiness_n of_o the_o earth_n these_o little_a glimmer_a ray_n proceed_v from_o that_o sun_n of_o glory_n god_n himself_o to_o espy_v some_o light_n of_o his_o heavenly_a glory_n and_o happiness_n and_o so_o in_o some_o measure_n to_o spell_n learn_v and_o enjoy_v the_o felicity_n of_o heaven_n on_o earth_n we_o be_v not_o to_o disdain_v to_o make_v use_n of_o these_o earthly_a in_o the_o acquist_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n nor_o to_o make_v earthly_a comparison_n and_o similitude_n herein_o for_o although_o there_o be_v no_o comparison_n between_o they_o either_o in_o time_n or_o excellency_n yet_o as_o child_n have_v need_n at_o first_o to_o be_v allure_v to_o the_o acquisition_n of_o great_a and_o excellent_a matter_n by_o such_o toy_n and_o trifle_n as_o they_o apprehend_v so_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o weak_a apprehension_n such_o comparison_n and_o similitude_n often_o be_v and_o may_v be_v use_v in_o a_o convenient_a manner_n so_o as_o we_o may_v make_v a_o very_a good_a use_n of_o earthly_a felicity_n in_o this_o respect_n as_o of_o a_o prospective_n glass_n for_o by_o and_o through_o these_o earthly_a our_o weak_a sight_n may_v see_v more_o plain_o into_o heavenly_a happiness_n and_o consequent_o be_v excite_v to_o seek_v and_o enjoy_v the_o same_o let_v we_o then_o by_o reason_n light_n through_o these_o terrestrial_a endeavour_n to_o learn_v espy_v and_o contemplate_v high_o more_o excellent_a heavenly_a happiness_n reason_n be_v of_o such_o force_n as_o that_o it_o can_v pass_v from_o thing_n know_v to_o thing_n unknown_a it_o can_v abstract_a from_o visible_a thing_n thing_n invisible_a from_o corporal_a incorporal_a general_n from_o particular_n and_o high_a mystical_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n from_o low_a apparent_a terrestrial_a thing_n so_o as_o hereby_o we_o may_v in_o some_o measure_n contemplate_v god_n himself_o and_o his_o heavenly_a glory_n it_o be_v a_o common_a doctrine_n the_o world_n be_v make_v for_o man_n and_o man_n for_o god_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o happiness_n in_o the_o world_n from_o which_o we_o may_v not_o draw_v some_o instruction_n to_o know_v god_n ourselves_o and_o our_o duty_n if_o therefore_o first_o in_o general_n we_o consider_v all_o the_o felicity_n in_o the_o world_n in_o their_o great_a worth_n beauty_n sweetness_n and_o pleasantness_n reason_n will_v tell_v we_o that_o if_o there_o be_v so_o much_o excellency_n in_o the_o creature_n the_o creator_n be_v in_o all_o respect_n much_o more_o excellent_a and_o that_o if_o we_o may_v enjoy_v such_o and_o so_o many_o pleasure_n and_o felicity_n in_o creature_n much_o more_o and_o better_a may_v and_o shall_v we_o enjoy_v in_o god_n himself_o &_o taste_v and_o see_v how_o good_a the_o lord_n be_v say_v king_n david_n the_o felicity_n of_o the_o earth_n in_o their_o great_a worth_n and_o excellency_n be_v but_o as_o drop_n proceed_v from_o the_o ocean_n of_o his_o infinite_a sweetness_n if_o we_o may_v enjoy_v so_o much_o pleasure_n so_o much_o happiness_n in_o these_o little_a drop_n &_o foreta_v how_o much_o more_o may_v &_o shall_v we_o in_o those_o river_n of_o pleasure_n in_o that_o sea_n of_o happiness_n which_o be_v in_o god_n in_o the_o heaven_n reason_n also_o tell_v we_o if_o there_o be_v so_o much_o so_o many_o &_o such_o excellent_a treasure_n glory_n delight_n and_o felicity_n on_o earth_n the_o place_n of_o our_o mortality_n of_o our_o pilgrimage_n possess_v also_o by_o god_n enemy_n there_o be_v abundant_o more_o happiness_n in_o heaven_n the_o place_n of_o our_o eternity_n our_o kingdom_n and_o possess_v only_o by_o god_n himself_o and_o his_o friend_n and_o beside_o the_o instruction_n which_o man_n draw_v
