continual_o upon_o you_o if_o you_o be_v not_o hypocrite_n you_o be_v as_o nigh_o they_o as_o ever_o be_v egg_n to_o egg_n as_o to_o the_o likeness_n of_o they_o you_o that_o have_v be_v know_v to_o though_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v as_o a_o enemy_n to_o he_o he_o can_v but_o love_v he_o for_o all_o this_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v do_v this_o take_v away_o what_o please_v his_o nature_n and_o he_o can_v love_v he_o try_v your_o heart_n by_o these_o thing_n four_o know_v this_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v love_v the_o person_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n nor_o a_o saint_n as_o a_o saint_n i_o fundamental_a ground_n of_o all_o his_o comfort_n for_o love_v you_o know_v it_o belong_v for_o union_n nor_o he_o can_v love_v a_o saint_n as_o a_o saint_n pure_o but_o a_o saint_n so_o temper_v so_o condition_v he_o can_v love_v a_o poor_a saint_n nor_o a_o weak_a saint_n he_o can_v pure_o close_v with_o he_o and_o have_v his_o bowel_n work_v towards_o he_o pure_o as_o a_o saint_n five_o no_o hypocrite_n can_v go_v on_o in_o any_o spiritual_a work_n or_o service_n for_o christ_n with_o any_o contentment_n with_o any_o pleasure_n without_o sensible_a comfort_n or_o outward_a respect_n abundance_n of_o light_n otherwise_o they_o can_v never_o play_v their_o trick_n so_o as_o they_o do_v it_o be_v impossible_a but_o the_o heart_n shall_v say_v this_o be_v not_o right_a i_o find_v not_o this_o right_n in_o my_o own_o spirit_n it_o be_v impossible_a they_o shall_v lie_v under_o these_o thing_n and_o have_v no_o conviction_n no_o check_n secret_o that_o he_o be_v true_o such_o a_o one_o three_o he_o may_v by_o reflect_v upon_o himself_o know_v it_o by_o his_o get_n in_o his_o duty_n if_o he_o have_v nothing_o but_o that_o which_o he_o get_v in_o duty_n when_o he_o hear_v how_o saint_n get_v communion_n with_o god_n in_o duty_n how_o their_o soul_n be_v take_v up_o with_o christ_n what_o glorious_a enjoyment_n they_o have_v of_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o sacrament_n what_o glorious_a frame_n they_o find_v upon_o their_o spirit_n when_o they_o have_v communion_n he_o know_v he_o can_v hardly_o get_v from_o one_o duty_n to_o another_o the_o truth_n be_v a_o hypocrite_n be_v the_o poor_a miserable_a soul_n in_o the_o world_n he_o never_o have_v any_o thing_n but_o what_o he_o get_v from_o hand_n to_o mouth_n when_o he_o come_v to_o die_v he_o be_v a_o beggar_n nothing_o at_o all_o to_o live_v on_o and_o he_o know_v he_o never_o meet_v with_o christ_n so_o as_o to_o humble_v he_o and_o to_o lay_v he_o low_o he_o know_v when_o he_o hear_v other_o saint_n speak_v of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o sweetness_n they_o have_v have_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o christ_n pardon_v and_o apply_v his_o love_n to_o they_o he_o know_v he_o have_v not_o these_o thing_n when_o he_o come_v to_o action_n he_o be_v as_o dead_a and_o as_o low_o as_o may_v be_v and_o as_o i_o tell_v you_o he_o be_v poor_a and_o worst_a at_o last_o fourthlie_o god_n delight_v to_o discover_v a_o hypocrite_n he_o delight_v in_o that_o exceed_o and_o common_o do_v it_o and_o lay_v it_o upon_o a_o man_n close_o and_o wonderful_o by_o wonderful_a flash_n of_o spirit_n and_o god_n delight_v to_o do_v it_o first_o because_o it_o be_v a_o secret_a that_o none_o can_v find_v out_o but_o himself_o therefore_o he_o delight_v to_o anatomize_v a_o wicked_a cunning_a deceitful_a heart_n secondlie_o god_n he_o delight_v to_o do_v it_o because_o he_o love_v to_o put_v a_o special_a mark_n upon_o they_o of_o all_o person_n in_o the_o world_n those_o that_o have_v deceive_v other_o shall_v deceive_v themselves_o he_o put_v a_o mark_n upon_o the_o first_o hypocrite_n in_o the_o world_n that_o ever_o be_v that_o he_o change_v his_o countenance_n so_o that_o if_o you_o have_v no_o more_o take_v they_o altogether_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o a_o man_n may_v very_o well_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n and_o know_v himself_o to_o be_v so_o and_o yet_o go_v one_o nay_o it_o be_v very_o hard_a for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v long_o a_o hypocrite_n under_o the_o gospel_n but_o he_o must_v lie_v under_o the_o check_n of_o it_o but_o second_o you_o will_v say_v how_o can_v this_o be_v how_o can_v he_o continue_v in_o congregation_n in_o church_n how_o can_v he_o continue_v all_o this_o while_n and_o not_o be_v terrify_v and_o not_o leave_v off_o all_o profession_n my_o brethren_n in_o the_o first_o place_n pray_v take_v in_o these_o thing_n know_v it_o be_v the_o most_o delude_a sin_n in_o the_o world_n the_o most_o pleasant_a sin_n in_o the_o world_n to_o a_o man_n as_o man_n love_v by_o art_n to_o imitate_v nature_n they_o be_v mighty_a please_v with_o it_o to_o represent_v nature_n in_o art_n how_o man_n give_v up_o themselves_o and_o their_o study_n and_o be_v please_v with_o it_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o please_v to_o a_o man_n as_o hypocrisy_n be_v that_o he_o can_v turn_v himself_o at_o any_o time_n here_o and_o there_o &_o evade_v all_o thing_n that_o be_v lay_v upon_o he_o by_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v just_a as_o you_o see_v with_o those_o that_o be_v your_o thief_n or_o cutpurse_n that_o have_v a_o curious_a art_n and_o dexterity_n to_o do_v it_o they_o will_v take_v a_o man_n purse_n out_o of_o his_o pocket_n so_o exact_o that_o he_o can_v know_v it_o be_v do_v but_o they_o be_v go_v and_o when_o they_o come_v together_o at_o night_n they_o rejoice_v and_o brag_v who_o have_v do_v the_o best_a feat_n so_o hypocrite_n can_v but_o know_v in_o their_o natural_a conscience_n it_o be_v against_o the_o rule_n but_o there_o be_v abundance_n of_o pleasure_n in_o it_o to_o cheat_v themselves_o and_o cheat_v other_o till_o god_n work_v mighty_o upon_o they_o for_o to_o imitate_v a_o saint_n in_o every_o thing_n and_o do_v it_o exact_o please_v a_o hypocrite_n that_o he_o can_v delude_v other_o when_o he_o have_v be_v in_o prayer_n cozen_v and_o delude_v the_o best_a sort_n of_o man_n in_o the_o world_n as_o i_o have_v hear_v some_o say_v they_o can_v delude_v all_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o world_n for_o that_o be_v please_v to_o a_o man_n that_o nourish_v his_o self-love_n and_o that_o do_v carry_v he_o on_o to_o act_n so_o as_o to_o be_v well_o think_v of_o by_o other_o it_o show_v a_o man_n a_o artificial_a man_n that_o can_v thus_o and_o thus_o move_v up_o and_o down_o the_o world_n and_o none_o see_v he_o or_o take_v notice_n of_o he_o all_o think_v he_o a_o bless_a saint_n i_o be_o confident_a there_o be_v no_o sin_n so_o please_v to_o a_o soul_n as_o hypocrisy_n be_v for_o it_o will_v have_v so_o many_o variety_n of_o artificial_a motion_n lay_v before_o it_o to_o act_v by_o that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o tie_v to_o one_o or_o tother_o but_o still_o act_v in_o variety_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o divine_a thing_n be_v not_o on_o his_o heart_n at_o all_o as_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o in_o the_o second_o place_n second_o he_o may_v go_v on_o in_o profession_n though_o he_o know_v himself_o to_o be_v so_o he_o may_v go_v on_o because_o he_o know_v not_o the_o nature_n and_o vileness_n of_o his_o sin_n at_o all_o only_o see_v he_o be_v not_o as_o he_o shall_v be_v though_o you_o may_v think_v you_o do_v well_o and_o be_v very_o exact_a in_o the_o gospel_n yet_o you_o can_v be_v sincere_a while_o there_o be_v such_o a_o mixture_n in_o your_o principle_n and_o end_n 1_o cor._n 8._o a_o man_n be_v not_o sincere_a when_o there_o be_v any_o mixture_n when_o a_o man_n be_v carry_v on_o by_o inward_a motion_n of_o sin_n now_o i_o confess_v there_o will_v be_v many_o mixture_n but_o there_o be_v mixture_n in_o intention_n and_o mixture_n in_o principle_n and_o end_n and_o these_o be_v dangerous_a for_o a_o man_n can_v be_v sincere_a if_o these_o be_v predominant_a over_o he_o as_o if_o i_o go_v to_o god_n if_o it_o be_v not_o to_o glorify_v god_n and_o to_o have_v communion_n with_o he_o have_v the_o high_a end_n and_o do_v not_o act_v from_o a_o spiritual_a principle_n of_o holy_a love_n to_o he_o and_o his_o glory_n if_o i_o have_v any_o mixture_n in_o my_o intention_n though_o other_o thing_n may_v come_v in_o accidental_o yet_o if_o they_o be_v incorporate_v in_o the_o principle_n than_o i_o be_o not_o sincere_a for_o to_o make_v up_o that_o sincerity_n a_o man_n must_v have_v that_o spirit_n of_o sincerity_n that_o be_v pure_a to_o act_v from_o god_n to_o god_n from_o the_o spirit_n unto_o christ_n now_o here_o be_v a_o pure_a way_n of_o act_v when_o the_o soul_n see_v what_o it_o be_v own_o strength_n be_v cast_v it_o out_o lie_v at_o christ_n foot_n be_v carry_v out_o by_o the_o assistance_n of_o god_n spirit_n will_v not_o have_v any_o thing_n but_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n when_o the_o intention_n go_v along_o principle_n in_o your_o heart_n and_o clear_a apprehension_n of_o the_o object_n and_o the_o end_n and_o however_o you_o may_v conceive_v you_o act_v evenlie_a and_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o feign_v to_o be_v so_o in_o a_o duty_n yet_o if_o you_o be_v not_o carry_v out_o in_o such_o a_o heavenly_a harmony_n of_o principle_n and_o inclination_n and_o your_o end_n together_o you_o will_v never_o be_v find_v to_o be_v sincere_a in_o the_o gospel_n secondlie_o the_o word_n signify_v that_o clearness_n that_o perspicuity_n that_o shall_v be_v in_o a_o man_n soul_n in_o all_o his_o act_n so_o say_v the_o apostle_n that_o you_o may_v be_v sincere_a the_o word_n signify_v such_o a_o clearness_n as_o when_o a_o man_n be_v under_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o sun_n as_o under_o the_o sun_n shine_v on_o a_o man_n spirit_n you_o will_v hardly_o avoid_v hypocrisy_n till_o your_o conscience_n be_v under_o a_o light_n and_o a_o brightness_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o divine_a working_n upon_o your_o heart_n for_o when_o your_o conscience_n lie_v under_o darkness_n and_o guilt_n as_o to_o the_o testimony_n it_o shall_v give_v you_o will_v still_o have_v shift_n off_o of_o hypocrisy_n from_o
