bend_v to_o the_o lord_n will_v yet_o if_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o some_o particular_a sin_n this_o will_v hinder_v the_o quiet_a of_o our_o conscience_n therefore_o say_v paul_n i_o know_v nothing_o by_o myself_o that_o be_v 4.4_o nothing_o to_o accuse_v i_o no_o corruption_n no_o root_n of_o unbelief_n reign_v in_o he_o infirmity_n he_o have_v many_o and_o frailty_n he_o have_v many_o and_o he_o know_v they_o but_o be_v know_v nothing_o to_o accuse_v he_o whatever_o be_v amiss_o in_o he_o his_o conscience_n tell_v he_o he_o use_v all_o holy_a mean_n against_o it_o if_o thy_o conscience_n can_v true_o say_v thus_o also_o of_o thou_o than_o have_v thou_o a_o true_o quiet_a conscience_n three_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n favour_n and_o pardon_n though_o we_o have_v fall_v into_o great_a sin_n yet_o our_o conscience_n may_v have_v quiet_a if_o we_o can_v be_v true_o assure_v of_o god_n love_n and_o favour_n in_o the_o pardon_n of_o they_o 10.2_o the_o apostle_n prove_v that_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o law_n can_v not_o purge_v away_o sin_n but_o only_o christ_n blood_n can_v do_v it_o his_o argument_n to_o prove_v it_o be_v this_o because_o those_o sacrifice_n can_v not_o free_v a_o man_n from_o have_v conscience_n of_o sin_n they_o can_v not_o purge_v the_o conscience_n but_o christ_n blood_n can_v after_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n in_o christ_n blood_n when_o i_o speak_v of_o a_o quiet_a conscience_n 1._o a_o calmness_n of_o spirit_n or_o a_o quietness_n of_o mind_n not_o trouble_v with_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n nor_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n nor_o terrify_v with_o the_o judgement_n due_a unto_o sin_n this_o quietness_n and_o calmness_n of_o spirit_n be_v promise_v to_o all_o they_o that_o true_o hearken_v unto_o christ_n and_o obey_v he_o 1.33_o who_o so_o hearken_v to_o i_o shall_v be_v quiet_a from_o fear_n of_o evil_a 2._o a_o cheerful_a merry_a and_o joyful_a heart_n when_o our_o conscience_n give_v a_o comfortable_a testimony_n of_o we_o it_o can_v but_o make_v our_o heart_n joyful_a this_o be_v our_o rejoice_v 1.12_o the_o testimony_n of_o our_o conscience_n say_v paul_n the_o comfortable_a testimony_n which_o his_o conscience_n give_v of_o he_o make_v he_o to_o rejoice_v a_o wicked_a man_n can_v true_o rejoice_v no_o though_o he_o be_v merry_a and_o jovial_a and_o laugh_v yet_o his_o carnal_a estate_n be_v a_o consider_v about_o a_o quiet_a conscience_n be_v how_o it_o differ_v from_o that_o quiet_a conscience_n which_o be_v in_o the_o wicked_a 1._o i_o confess_v that_o the_o wicked_a seem_v to_o have_v a_o very_a quiet_a conscience_n many_o thousand_o of_o carnal_a people_n seem_v to_o live_v and_o die_v in_o quiet_a look_v into_o alehouse_n lewd_a house_n into_o all_o place_n who_o so_o merry_a and_o brisk_a and_o heart-whole_a as_o they_o say_v as_o they_o who_o have_v no_o save_a grace_n yet_o 2._o 21.23_o this_o quiet_a conscience_n in_o they_o must_v needs_o differ_v from_o the_o quiet_a conscience_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n certain_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o give_v the_o child_n bread_n unto_o dog_n neither_o will_v he_o smile_v upon_o their_o soul_n neither_o do_v he_o pardon_v the_o sin_n nor_o accept_v the_o person_n of_o the_o ungodly_a and_o therefore_o if_o they_o have_v a_o quiet_a conscience_n it_o must_v needs_o differ_v from_o that_o in_o the_o godly_a our_o peace_n shall_v be_v in_o safety_n four_o our_o peace_n depend_v upon_o our_o obedience_n not_o only_o as_o a_o sign_n of_o true_a peace_n nor_o only_o as_o a_o guard_n to_o it_o but_o as_o a_o thing_n please_v to_o god_n without_o the_o which_o we_o displease_v god_n for_o though_o god_n be_v please_v with_o his_o child_n always_o in_o christ_n yet_o he_o be_v not_o please_v that_o any_o in_o christ_n shall_v be_v disobedient_a to_o he_o 4.1_o you_o have_v receive_v of_o we_o how_o you_o ought_v to_o walk_v and_o to_o please_v god_n say_v the_o apostle_n when_o god_n child_n walk_v in_o obedience_n that_o be_v please_v unto_o god_n so_o that_o peace_n of_o conscience_n do_v great_o depend_v on_o obedience_n for_o otherwise_o conscience_n will_v be_v trouble_v o_o i_o do_v not_o please_v god_n this_o be_v displease_v unto_o god_n and_o this_o do_v provoke_v god_n not_o as_o though_o there_o be_v any_o such_o perfection_n in_o our_o obedience_n that_o can_v satisfy_v any_o tittle_n of_o god_n law_n but_o because_o when_o our_o person_n be_v please_v to_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n than_o our_o obedience_n to_o god_n be_v please_v too_o in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o conscience_n will_v say_v it_o thus_o much_o shall_v suffice_v for_o answer_v to_o the_o second_o question_n iii_o question_n what_o manner_n of_o obedience_n it_o be_v that_o peace_n of_o conscience_n depend_v upon_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o question_n be_v this_o because_o it_o shall_v seem_v there_o be_v no_o such_o obedience_n in_o this_o life_n as_o any_o peace_n of_o conscience_n shall_v depend_v on_o do_v not_o james_n say_v in_o many_o thing_n we_o sin_v all_o do_v not_o our_o saviour_n say_v when_o you_o have_v do_v all_o that_o you_o can_v say_v we_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n if_o our_o conscience_n can_v still_o say_v that_o we_o be_v unprofitable_a and_o that_o we_o do_v sin_n in_o every_o thing_n that_o we_o do_v yea_o in_o many_o thing_n in_o all_o the_o duty_n we_o go_v about_o if_o our_o conscience_n can_v say_v thus_o how_o can_v any_o peace_n depend_v upon_o obedience_n what_o obedience_n do_v you_o mean_v that_o peace_n of_o conscience_n depend_v upon_o i_o answer_v 1._o absolute_a perfection_n in_o obedience_n be_v not_o require_v unto_o evangelical_a peace_n for_o if_o it_o be_v no_o man_n can_v have_v peace_n no_o not_o paul_n nor_o abraham_n nor_o any_o of_o the_o holy_a of_o god_n child_n and_o therefore_o absolute_a perfection_n be_v not_o require_v if_o we_o say_v we_o have_v not_o sin_v we_o make_v christ_n a_o liar_n and_o his_o word_n be_v not_o in_o we_o 1._o john_n 1.10_o our_o conscience_n can_v still_o say_v we_o have_v sin_v and_o it_o can_v still_o say_v our_o obedience_n be_v imperfect_a a_o halt_a leg_n can_v never_o go_v perfect_o a_o jacob_n be_v call_v he_o that_o halt_v and_o every_o godly_a soul_n halt_v though_o he_o do_v not_o halt_v between_o two_o as_o wicked_a people_n do_v yet_o he_o halt_v in_o follow_v after_o god_n what_o purblind_a eye_n can_v see_v perfect_o or_o thick_a ear_n hear_v perfect_o he_o that_o have_v these_o imperfection_n of_o body_n can_v neither_o go_v nor_o see_v nor_o hear_v perfect_o so_o the_o best_a of_o god_n child_n have_v imperfection_n of_o heart_n and_o spirit_n and_o mind_n their_o faith_n be_v imperfect_a their_o love_n be_v imperfect_a and_o therefore_o their_o obedience_n must_v needs_o be_v imperfect_a but_o absolute_a perfection_n be_v not_o require_v to_o true_a peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o therefore_o this_o do_v not_o hinder_v it_o 2._o though_o absolute_a perfection_n be_v not_o require_v to_o peace_n yet_o such_o obedience_n be_v require_v as_o may_v be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n 5.9_o so_o say_v the_o apostle_n we_o labour_v that_o whether_o present_a or_o absent_a we_o may_v be_v accept_v of_o he_o such_o obedience_n we_o must_v show_v as_o may_v be_v accept_v of_o he_o or_o we_o can_v have_v true_a peace_n if_o our_o endeavour_n be_v not_o acceptable_a our_o conscience_n will_v quick_o hear_v of_o it_o and_o tell_v we_o so_o if_o we_o pray_v cold_o or_o hear_v unprofitable_o or_o live_v loose_o if_o we_o do_v not_o do_v that_o which_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n our_o conscience_n will_v soon_o complain_v nay_o though_o we_o do_v do_v the_o duty_n if_o we_o do_v not_o do_v they_o in_o a_o acceptable_a manner_n conscience_n will_v have_v matter_n against_o we_o still_o 3._o this_o acceptablenesse_n of_o obedience_n lie_v in_o this_o when_o our_o obedience_n be_v sincere_a universal_a and_o total_a and_o proceed_v from_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n dwell_v in_o we_o the_o apostle_n give_v it_o this_o phrase_n when_o we_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n rom._n 8.4_o that_o be_v our_o fulfil_n the_o law_n when_o christ_n have_v fulfil_v the_o law_n for_o we_o and_o make_v we_o sincere_o to_o walk_v by_o it_o not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n when_o we_o do_v not_o favour_v ourselves_o in_o one_o lust_n nor_o suffer_v ourselves_o in_o any_o belove_a sin_n but_o whatever_o it_o be_v that_o be_v evil_a our_o conscience_n can_v say_v we_o true_o do_v hate_v it_o and_o labour_n to_o avoid_v it_o whatever_o it_o be_v that_o be_v command_v we_o be_v it_o never_o so_o contrary_a to_o our_o nature_n yet_o our_o conscience_n can_v say_v we_o sincere_o set_v ourselves_o to_o do_v it_o so_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n this_o be_v sincerity_n of_o obedience_n and_o this_o be_v require_v unto_o peace_n 4._o this_o sincerity_n of_o obedience_n make_v we_o to_o bewail_v our_o very_a infirmity_n and_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o not_o only_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o great_a sin_n but_o also_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o infirmity_n if_o we_o be_v not_o sound_o humble_v for_o our_o very_a infirmity_n also_o they_o will_v hinder_v the_o peace_n of_o our_o conscience_n we_o can_v have_v no_o peace_n except_o our_o conscience_n can_v witness_v that_o our_o infirmity_n do_v humble_a we_o and_o drive_v we_o to_o christ_n and_o cause_n we_o to_o sue_v out_o a_o pardon_n if_o conscience_n have_v not_o a_o pardon_n seal_v for_o infirmity_n also_o it_o will_v not_o be_v at_o peace_n 17_o christ_n bear_v our_o very_a infirmity_n therefore_o we_o must_v be_v humble_v for_o they_o and_o go_v to_o he_o for_o pardon_n of_o they_o too_o or_o conscience_n will_v not_o be_v at_o peace_n thus_o i_o have_v answer_v also_o this_o three_o question_n iv._o question_n how_o if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o burden_a and_o trouble_a conscience_n what_o must_v he_o do_v to_o be_v free_v from_o it_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o question_n be_v this_o because_o man_n be_v ignorant_a about_o it_o when_o man_n be_v trouble_v in_o conscience_n and_o burden_v a_o little_a that_o way_n present_o they_o daub_v all_o with_o peace_n and_o go_v a_o wrong_a way_n to_o work_v this_o course_n the_o lord_n do_v complain_v of_o in_o the_o false_a prophet_n who_o preach_v too_o much_o peace_n 8.11_o they_o have_v heal_v the_o hurt_n of_o the_o daughter_n of_o my_o people_n slight_o say_v peace_n peace_n when_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n and_o so_o they_o do_v more_o hurt_n than_o good_a like_o a_o chirurgeon_n that_o skin_v the_o wound_n before_o he_o give_v search_v salve_n to_o kill_v the_o matter_n of_o it_o afterward_o it_o break_v out_o worse_o and_o it_o be_v a_o hundred_o to_o one_o but_o it_o will_v cost_v the_o patient_a his_o life_n so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o man_n a_o man_n can_v roar_v a_o little_a for_o his_o sin_n i_o have_v be_v a_o sinner_n and_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v i_o have_v be_v a_o beast_n etc._n etc._n but_o o_o say_v they_o believe_v man_n christ_n die_v for_o thou_o and_o the_o promise_n be_v to_o thou_o and_o god_n will_v pardon_v thou_o thus_o they_o heal_v he_o slight_o with_o peace_n peace_n and_o it_o may_v be_v there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o he_o yet_o he_o have_v need_n to_o be_v search_v more_o deep_o they_o skin_n the_o wound_n and_o it_o be_v a_o thousand_o to_o one_o but_o it_o lose_v the_o man_n soul_n by_o give_v a_o cordial_a where_o a_o corrosive_n be_v necessary_a and_o therefore_o great_a reason_n that_o this_o question_n shall_v be_v answer_v if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o burden_a trouble_a conscience_n what_o must_v such_o a_o man_n do_v to_o be_v free_v from_o it_o i_o answer_v 1._o let_v he_o take_v heed_n that_o he_o meddle_v not_o too_o much_o with_o
