have_v but_o a_o piece_n of_o the_o sacrament_n suppose_v they_o deal_v with_o i_o as_o the_o papist_n do_v with_o the_o people_n that_o be_v they_o will_v give_v they_o the_o bread_n and_o not_o the_o wine_n certain_o i_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o stay_v with_o they_o then_o but_o i_o be_v bind_v to_o go_v where_o i_o may_v have_v the_o whole_a sacrament_n so_o if_o a_o church_n will_v give_v i_o some_o one_o ordinance_n and_o not_o another_o i_o confess_v so_o long_o as_o there_o be_v hope_n that_o i_o may_v enjoy_v it_o and_o that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o way_n for_o enjoyment_n i_o think_v there_o shall_v be_v a_o great_a forbearance_n to_o a_o church_n as_o well_o as_o to_o a_o particular_a person_n as_o i_o must_v not_o withdraw_v from_o a_o particular_a man_n where_o there_o be_v hope_n still_o of_o his_o reformation_n and_o that_o there_o may_v come_v good_a of_o my_o forbearance_n so_o towards_o a_o church_n much_o more_o but_o i_o say_v if_o i_o can_v enjoy_v neither_o do_v there_o appear_v any_o hope_n of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o all_o ordinance_n certain_o it_o be_v but_o a_o cruelty_n to_o force_v man_n to_o stay_v there_o when_o as_o other_o where_o they_o may_v then_o certain_o if_o he_o may_v have_v more_o ordinance_n for_o the_o edification_n of_o his_o soul_n he_o may_v as_o well_o remove_v from_o one_o to_o another_o as_o he_o may_v remove_v if_o his_o trade_n be_v better_a in_o one_o place_n than_o another_o christ_n will_v have_v all_o his_o people_n look_v to_o the_o edification_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o shall_v i_o account_v that_o schism_n come_v into_o his_o presence_n what_o do_v a_o father_n more_o delight_n in_o than_o to_o have_v his_o child_n about_o he_o never_o do_v any_o father_n or_o mother_n love_v to_o have_v their_o child_n by_o they_o so_o as_o god_n love_v to_o have_v his_o child_n come_v nigh_o he_o and_o be_v often_o with_o he_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v one_o great_a reason_n that_o god_n suffer_v you_o to_o fall_v another_o there_o grow_v a_o strangeness_n and_o so_o by_o degree_n their_o friendship_n be_v deaden_v but_o now_o when_o they_o be_v together_o every_o day_n and_o there_o be_v a_o intercourse_n of_o love_n and_o friendship_n than_o their_o friendship_n be_v keep_v active_a and_o quick_a but_o now_o if_o they_o be_v absent_a long_o indeed_o if_o they_o be_v absent_a in_o another_o country_n when_o they_o can_v come_v together_o that_o they_o be_v sure_a it_o be_v not_o through_o any_o neglect_n than_o it_o will_v not_o damp_n their_o friendship_n but_o when_o they_o be_v near_o and_o come_v not_o one_o to_o another_o than_o they_o think_v it_o be_v out_o of_o neglect_n and_o so_o they_o grow_v strange_a so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n if_o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n of_o a_o come_n into_o god_n presence_n than_o it_o will_v not_o hinder_v the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o but_o now_o when_o we_o have_v those_o duty_n of_o worship_n wherein_o we_o may_v draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n if_o we_o neglect_v they_o our_o familiarity_n with_o god_n will_v quick_o be_v lose_v acquaint_v thyself_o with_o god_n and_o be_v at_o peace_n god_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o his_o servant_n the_o lord_n love_v to_o be_v familiar_a with_o the_o poor_a of_o his_o saint_n and_o will_v not_o thou_o maintain_v that_o sweet_a familiarity_n with_o god_n these_o two_o benefit_n will_v follow_v upon_o thy_o familiarity_n with_o god_n first_o those_o that_o be_v most_o familiar_a with_o god_n they_o be_v most_o potent_a with_o god_n as_o now_o a_o stranger_n can_v prevail_v in_o any_o petition_n so_o as_o a_o familiar_a friend_n can_v thus_o my_o brethren_n when_o stranger_n come_v into_o god_n presence_n god_n do_v not_o so_o much_o regard_v they_o but_o when_o his_o familiar_n come_v into_o his_o presence_n the_o saint_n of_o god_n that_o keep_v close_o with_o he_o in_o constant_a communion_n and_o converse_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n god_n do_v take_v they_o as_o his_o familiar_a friend_n and_o they_o will_v prevail_v much_o with_o god_n second_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o terror_n of_o death_n will_v be_v take_v away_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o take_v off_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o thought_n of_o death_n as_o by_o keep_v familiarity_n with_o god_n death_n then_o be_v joyful_a to_o those_o that_o converse_v with_o he_o that_o reverend_a divine_a that_o be_v now_o with_o god_n doctor_n preston_n when_o he_o be_v to_o die_v he_o have_v this_o speech_n i_o shall_v but_o change_v my_o place_n i_o have_v converse_v with_o all_o thy_o day_n and_o then_o what_o safety_n be_v there_o in_o be_v near_o to_o god_n especial_o in_o these_o dangerous_a time_n in_o the_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v it_o god_n and_o so_o in_o 1_o sam._n 7.3_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o scripture_n make_v the_o uprightness_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o consist_v in_o this_o and_o samuel_n speak_v unto_o all_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n say_v if_o you_o do_v return_n unto_o the_o lord_n with_o all_o your_o heart_n what_o then_o then_o put_v away_o the_o strange_a god_n and_o ashtaroth_n from_o among_o you_o and_o prepare_v your_o heart_n unto_o the_o lord_n and_o serve_v he_o only_o as_o if_o samuel_n shall_v say_v if_o you_o will_v return_v indeed_o to_o the_o lord_n if_o indeed_o your_o heart_n be_v before_o who_o we_o come_v to_o tender_v our_o duty_n then_o do_v we_o make_v conscience_n to_o prepare_v our_o heart_n when_o we_o labour_v upon_o our_o go_v to_o worship_n god_n to_o get_v our_o heart_n before_o hand_n possess_v with_o right_a apprehension_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o that_o god_n that_o we_o be_v go_v to_o worship_n and_o of_o the_o greatness_n and_o weight_n of_o the_o duty_n that_o we_o be_v set_v about_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o the_o manner_n how_o it_o be_v to_o be_v perform_v the_o rule_n by_o which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v guide_v the_o end_n that_o we_o be_v to_o aim_v at_o meditation_n be_v a_o good_a preparation_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o these_o be_v the_o general_a head_n of_o our_o i_n ditation_n for_o our_o preparation_n to_o duty_n viz._n what_o god_n he_o be_v we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o meditate_v of_o god_n n_o his_o attribute_n and_o then_o meditate_v of_o the_o weight_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o the_o nature_n of_o they_o and_o the_o rule_n of_o they_o and_o the_o end_n of_o they_o get_v your_o heart_n possess_v with_o meditation_n of_o this_o nature_n and_o in_o this_o as_o a_o special_a thing_n do_v consist_v your_o preparation_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n 2_o the_o second_o thing_n wherein_o the_o preparation_n to_o a_o duty_n consist_v it_o be_v in_o this_o in_o the_o take_n off_o of_o the_o heart_n from_o every_o sinful_a way_n the_o endeavour_n at_o least_o if_o there_o be_v iniquity_n in_o thy_o hand_n or_o heart_n labour_v to_o put_v it_o out_o when_o thou_o be_v come_v into_o god_n presence_n do_v not_o bring_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n the_o love_n of_o any_o sin_n in_o thy_o heart_n but_o labour_v to_o put_v it_o from_o thy_o heart_n in_o 2_o chron._n 29.5_o we_o find_v there_o what_o be_v require_v to_o preparation_n the_o text_n say_v hezekiah_n say_v unto_o they_o hear_v i_o you_o levite_n sanctify_v now_o yourselves_o and_o sanctify_v the_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n of_o your_o father_n and_o carry_v forth_o the_o filthiness_n out_o of_o the_o holy_a place_n that_o be_v sanctify_v a_o thing_n to_o carry_v forth_o the_o filthynesse_n out_o of_o that_o thing_n that_o we_o will_v sanctify_v so_o the_o sanctify_a of_o our_o heart_n it_o be_v by_o carry_v forth_o the_o filthiness_n out_o of_o our_o heart_n so_o as_o to_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o duty_n and_o in_o job_n 11.13.14_o if_o thou_o prepare_v thy_o heart_n and_o stretch_v out_o thy_o hand_n towards_o he_o what_o then_o if_o iniquity_n be_v in_o thy_o hand_n put_v it_o far_o away_o and_o let_v not_o wickedness_n dwell_v in_o thy_o tabernacle_n these_o two_o must_v be_v together_o 3._o a_o three_o thing_n be_v this_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n it_o be_v the_o disintangling_a of_o the_o heart_n from_o the_o world_n and_o from_o all_o occasion_n and_o business_n in_o the_o world_n i_o be_o to_o worship_n god_n but_o how_o be_v my_o heart_n ensnare_v and_o entangle_v in_o this_o and_o the_o other_o business_n now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n i_o must_v lay_v aside_o all_o for_o there_o be_v the_o preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n the_o separate_n of_o it_o for_o such_o a_o work_n for_o that_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o sanctification_n the_o separate_n of_o a_o thing_n from_o a_o common_a use_n i_o be_o to_o worship_n god_n now_o i_o must_v labour_v to_o separate_v my_o heart_n from_o a_o common_a use_n at_o other_o time_n god_n give_v i_o liberty_n to_o let_v out_o my_o heart_n to_o common_a use_n but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o must_v separate_v my_o heart_n from_o all_o common_a use_n that_o my_o heart_n may_v be_v whole_o for_o god_n i_o remember_v it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o story_n of_o sicily_n which_o be_v lord-treasurer_n that_o when_o he_o go_v to_o read_v he_o will_v lay_v his_o gown_n off_o and_o say_v lie_v there_o lord_n sicily_n so_o when_o we_o go_v to_o duty_n we_o shall_v say_v lie_v by_o world_n and_o by_o lay_v aside_o the_o world_n i_o mean_v lay_v aside_o of_o all_o household_n affair_n or_o affair_n in_o trade_n etc._n etc._n i_o must_v be_v as_o one_o that_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v in_o the_o world_n for_o that_o time_n it_o be_v true_a the_o time_n can_v be_v say_v to_o be_v holy_a for_o this_o as_o the_o time_n of_o the_o sabbath_n day_n be_v holy_a you_o will_v say_v why_o may_v not_o any_o time_n be_v say_v to_o be_v holy_a that_o i_o spend_v in_o holy_a duty_n no_o that_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o make_v time_n holy_a for_o the_o time_n that_o god_n make_v holy_a it_o be_v not_o holy_a because_o of_o the_o duty_n that_o i_o perform_v in_o it_o but_o the_o duty_n that_o i_o perform_v then_o be_v more_o acceptable_a because_o they_o be_v do_v in_o such_o a_o time_n and_o so_o that_o make_v a_o place_n holy_a not_o because_o it_o be_v appoint_v for_o holy_a duty_n and_o use_n but_o because_o it_o be_v so_o appoint_v by_o god_n and_o the_o perform_v a_o duty_n in_o that_o place_n be_v more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n than_o in_o another_o place_n but_o now_o though_o we_o can_v make_v our_o time_n holy_a in_o that_o second_o sense_n yet_o in_o the_o first_o it_o be_v time_n set_v apart_o for_o a_o holy_a use_n and_o in_o that_o
with_o a_o dead_a heart_n and_o with_o a_o dead_a service_n to_o sacrifice_v that_o which_o be_v dead_a before_o it_o come_v it_o be_v like_o a_o carrion_n that_o lie_v dead_a in_o the_o ditch_n oh_o let_v we_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o dead_a heart_n and_o dead_a sacrifice_n it_o it_o a_o live_a god_n that_o i_o be_o worship_v and_o therefore_o i_o must_v pray_v lord_n turn_v away_o my_o eye_n from_o behold_v vanity_n and_o quicken_v my_o heart_n in_o thy_o law_n psal_n 119.37_o remember_v when_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_n that_o thou_o come_v with_o a_o quicken_v heart_n for_o thou_o to_o worship_n god_n you_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o almighty_a and_o so_o be_v 1._o to_o fear_v his_o great_a power_n when_o you_o come_v before_o he_o and_o 2_o then_o you_o be_v not_o to_o be_v discourage_v by_o any_o difficulty_n i_o come_v to_o seek_v for_o some_o great_a thing_n and_o i_o come_v to_o seek_v to_o a_o great_a god_n that_o have_v all_o power_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o infinite_o more_o power_n than_o there_o be_v in_o all_o creature_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n i_o be_o pray_v to_o a_o god_n that_o can_v create_v peace_n create_v help_n my_o condition_n can_v be_v so_o desperate_a but_o this_o infinite_a almighty_a god_n be_v able_a to_o help_v i_o let_v i_o make_v he_o the_o object_n of_o my_o faith_n as_o he_o be_v so_o infinite_o almighty_a what_o a_o full_a object_n of_o faith_n be_v this_o god_n that_o have_v all_o power_n in_o he_o let_v i_o therefore_o come_v to_o he_o as_o a_o strong_a tower_n run_v to_o the_o name_n of_o god_n as_o a_o strong_a tower_n that_o can_v help_v in_o all_o strait_n whatsoever_o there_o will_v be_v much_o draw_v forth_o of_o our_o faith_n if_o we_o can_v present_v the_o lord_n before_o we_o as_o a_o infinite_a almighty_a god_n when_o we_o see_v outward_a help_n and_o mean_v near_o at_o hand_n than_o we_o can_v believe_v that_o we_o may_v have_v some_o succour_n from_o he_o but_o when_o all_o outward_a help_n and_o mean_n fail_v then_o we_o be_v discourage_v we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n but_o we_o rather_o take_v this_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a when_o as_o our_o heart_n be_v discourage_v with_o any_o difficulty_n now_o the_o lord_n expect_v that_o all_o his_o child_n that_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o shall_v worship_v he_o as_o the_o almighty_a god_n and_o so_o have_v their_o heart_n work_v towards_o he_o there_o will_v be_v mighty_a working_n of_o spirit_n towards_o god_n if_o we_o see_v he_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n as_o well_o as_o reason_n 7_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o omniscient_a god_n as_o a_o god_n infinite_o understand_v all_o thing_n now_o what_o do_v this_o call_n for_o first_o if_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o blind_a sacrifice_n to_o god_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o ignorant_a heart_n to_o god_n this_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o a_o understand_a creature_n to_o know_v the_o rule_n and_o end_n of_o its_o own_o action_n now_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_v a_o infinite_a god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o know_v the_o rule_n of_o what_o you_o do_v and_o know_v the_o end_n of_o what_o you_o do_v and_o come_v with_o understanding_n into_o his_o presence_n second_o if_o he_o be_v so_o understanding_n come_v with_o a_o free_a open_a heart_n to_o open_v whatsoever_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n to_o god_n take_v heed_n of_o keep_v any_o secret_a resolution_n in_o thy_o own_o heart_n god_n know_v thou_o and_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o find_v thou_o out_o god_n know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n before_o all_o the_o secret_a baseness_n that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n the_o lord_n do_v understand_v it_o the_o lord_n eye_n be_v a_o pierce_a eye_n he_o see_v thorough_a and_o through_o thy_o heart_n it_o be_v a_o vain_a thing_n for_o thou_o to_o come_v and_o conceal_v any_o thing_n before_o he_o you_o will_v say_v if_o god_n understand_v a_o man_n heart_n what_o need_v he_o come_v and_o confess_v yes_o he_o require_v it_o as_o thy_o duty_n that_o thou_o shall_v come_v and_o open_v all_o before_o he_o in_o spite_n of_o thy_o heart_n thou_o can_v not_o cover_v any_o thing_n from_o the_o lord_n eye_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v see_v whether_o thou_o be_v willing_a of_o thyself_o that_o he_o shall_v understand_v all_o god_n do_v not_o require_v we_o to_o come_v and_o confess_v our_o sin_n that_o so_o he_o may_v know_v that_o which_o he_o know_v not_o before_o but_o for_o this_o end_n that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o testimony_n that_o thou_o be_v willing_a that_o he_o shall_v know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n therefore_o now_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o ransack_v every_o corner_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o confess_v all_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o give_v glory_n to_o his_o name_n as_o that_o god_n that_o be_v a_o all-seeing_a god_n that_o know_v all_o the_o wind_n and_o turn_n of_o thy_o heart_n now_o meditate_v of_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v present_v to_o thou_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a mean_n to_o help_v thou_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n 8_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o folly_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o i_o say_v be_v thou_o ashamed_a of_o thy_o folly_n then_o and_o do_v thou_o exercise_v the_o grace_n of_o wisdom_n too_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o god_n that_o be_v by_o propound_v right_a end_n of_o which_o we_o speak_v before_o that_o be_v one_o part_n of_o wisdom_n to_o have_v right_a end_n and_o right_a mean_n towards_o those_o end_n so_o that_o the_o meditation_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o will_v further_o we_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n and_o further_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n wisdom_n when_o thou_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o thy_o great_a strait_n deny_v thy_o own_o wisdom_n come_v with_o a_o resolution_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o this_o manner_n lord_n i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o order_v my_o step_n there_o be_v much_o folly_n and_o vanity_n in_o my_o heart_n but_o thou_o be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n i_o come_v to_o thou_o for_o direction_n and_o i_o profess_v here_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o give_v up_o my_o whole_a soul_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o thy_o wisdom_n if_o every_o time_n we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n we_o come_v thus_o oh_o lord_n whatsoever_o our_o thought_n have_v be_v heretofore_o yet_o if_o thou_o shall_v but_o reveal_v thy_o mind_n to_o we_o we_o will_v hearken_v to_o thou_o lord_n we_o have_v no_o body_n nor_o no_o blood_n but_o the_o same_o person_n that_o be_v god_n have_v a_o body_n and_o blood_n that_o body_n and_o blood_n be_v unite_v unto_o the_o divine_a nature_n in_o a_o hypostatical_a union_n and_o from_o thence_o it_o come_v to_o have_v a_o efficacy_n for_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o to_o reconcile_v god_n and_o we_o together_o this_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n again_o from_o hence_o see_v what_o be_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n how_o great_a it_o be_v that_o have_v make_v such_o a_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o my_o soul_n that_o only_o such_o a_o way_n and_o such_o a_o mean_n must_v take_v away_o my_o sin_n i_o must_v either_o have_v lie_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o my_o sin_n eternal_o or_o jesus_n christ_n that_n god_n and_o man_n must_v suffer_v so_o much_o for_o it_o oh_o what_o meditation_n be_v these_o to_o take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n meditation_n 8._o behold_v the_o infinite_a love_n of_o god_n to_o mankind_n and_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o rather_o than_o god_n will_v see_v the_o child_n of_o man_n to_o perish_v eternal_o he_o will_v send_v his_o son_n to_o take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o thus_o to_o suffer_v such_o dreadful_a thing_n herein_o god_n show_v his_o love_n it_o be_v not_o the_o love_n of_o god_n so_o much_o in_o give_v you_o a_o good_a voyage_n and_o prosper_v you_o outward_o in_o the_o world_n but_o so_o god_n love_v the_o world_n that_o he_o give_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n and_o it_o please_v the_o father_n to_o break_v his_o son_n and_o to_o pour_v out_o his_o blood_n here_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o what_o a_o powerful_a mighty_a drawing_z efficacious_a meditation_n shall_v this_o be_v unto_o we_o med._n 9_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n they_o shall_v be_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n that_o ever_o a_o believer_n shall_v quite_o fall_v off_o from_o god_n and_o die_v in_o his_o sin_n why_o because_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v unto_o he_o for_o his_o spiritual_a nourishment_n though_o a_o believer_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a yet_o see_v god_n have_v appoint_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n for_o he_o to_o feed_v upon_o and_o to_o drink_v in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n sure_o then_o the_o weak_a in_o the_o world_n will_v be_v strengthen_v to_o go_v through_o all_o the_o hazard_n and_o danger_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v this_o that_o strengthen_v believer_n to_o encounter_v with_o all_o kind_n of_o danger_n it_o be_v this_o that_o preserve_v the_o weak_a grace_n in_o a_o believer_n namely_o the_o spiritual_a nourishment_n that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v appoint_v to_o they_o even_o the_o feed_n upon_o the_o body_n and_o drink_v the_o very_a blood_n of_o his_o son_n this_o be_v meat_n indeed_o and_o drink_v indeed_o that_o will_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n med._n 10._o the_o last_o meditation_n that_o the_o lord_n do_v do_v all_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n that_o be_v he_o do_v not_o only_o promise_v such_o and_o such_o mercy_n upon_o condition_n of_o our_o believe_a and_o repent_v but_o he_o do_v work_n believe_v and_o repent_v and_o work_v grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o same_o thing_n that_o be_v sometime_o call_v a_o covenant_n be_v call_v a_o testament_n that_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n wherein_o the_o lord_n do_v bequeath_v his_o rich_a legacy_n to_o his_o child_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v eternal_o save_v so_o that_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v bequeath_v by_o way_n of_o testament_n as_o well_o as_o covenant_n and_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfortable_a meditation_n to_o the_o saint_n for_o indeed_o when_o they_o look_v upon_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o in_o a_o way_n of_o covenant_n why_o then_o they_o think_v this_o this_o require_v somewhat_o of_o our_o part_n to_o be_v do_v and_o indeed_o god_n will_v keep_v covenant_n on_o his_o part_n but_o it_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v not_o keep_v covenant_n on_o we_o and_o so_o we_o may_v fail_v at_o last_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o look_v upon_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o gospel_n dispense_v in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o testament_n that_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n the_o legacy_n that_o god_n do_v bequeath_v to_o his_o servant_n this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfort_n to_o the_o soul_n that_o all_o the_o precious_a thing_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v to_o i_o in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o testament_n and_o that_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n that_o be_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n come_v now_o in_o the_o way_n of_o another_o administration_n than_o they_o do_v before_o it_o be_v not_o only_o new_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n that_o god_n make_v with_o adam_n but_o new_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o administration_n our_o forefather_n the_o patriarch_n they_o have_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o substance_n but_o administer_v in_o a_o dark_a way_n and_o many_o difference_n there_o be_v but_o now_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o the_o new_a testament_n there_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o all_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o legacy_n and_o in_o the_o administration_n of_o it_o with_o clearness_n and_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n the_o terror_n and_o harshness_n of_o the_o old_a administration_n be_v take_v away_o now_o these_o be_v the_o meditation_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o sanctify_v our_o heart_n when_o we_o be_v receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o in_o the_o work_n of_o these_o meditation_n upon_o our_o heart_n we_o shall_v come_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o we_o be_v draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o in_o that_o holy_a ordinance_n of_o he_o thus_o for_o meditation_n the_o next_o thing_n when_o we_o be_v there_o must_v be_v a_o actuate_a of_o these_o holy_a disposition_n that_o before_o we_o speak_v of_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o christian_n to_o bring_v grace_n to_o the_o sacrament_n but_o there_o must_v be_v a_o stir_v of_o that_o grace_n at_o that_o time_n or_o otherwise_o the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v not_o sanctify_v in_o receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o above_o all_o grace_n the_o actuate_a of_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o thou_o be_v a_o believer_n but_o thy_o faith_n must_v act_v at_o that_o very_a instant_n as_o thus_o first_o when_o thou_o hear_v the_o minister_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n say_v thus_o this_o be_v the_o body_n of_o jesus_n christ_n which_o be_v give_v for_o you_o take_v eat_z thou_o shall_v have_v thy_o faith_n so_o
in_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n they_o have_v other_o manner_n of_o freedom_n in_o prayer_n than_o you_o that_o walk_v loose_o and_o contract_v guiltiness_n upon_o your_o spirit_n and_o then_o the_o second_o thing_n be_v to_o keep_v our_o heart_n sensible_a of_o our_o continual_a dependence_n upon_o god_n sensible_a how_o we_o depend_v upon_o god_n fâ—â—_n whatsoever_o we_o be_v from_o the_o world_n and_o from_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v here_o below_o in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o shall_v have_v be_v a_o three_o thing_n in_o the_o course_n of_o your_o life_n you_o shall_v never_o let_v out_o your_o heart_n to_o any_o creature_n either_o to_o business_n or_o pleasure_n in_o the_o world_n so_o but_o that_o you_o may_v have_v command_n of_o your_o heart_n to_o call_v they_o when_o you_o will_v to_o call_v they_o in_o to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o then_o when_o you_o come_v to_o prayer_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o actual_a separation_n of_o your_o heart_n from_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n dedicate_a yourselves_o to_o god_n for_o this_o time_n as_o one_o that_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o the_o world_n nothing_o to_o do_v with_o any_o thing_n but_o self_n first_o we_o must_v consider_v of_o the_o matter_n of_o prayer_n and_o second_o of_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o first_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o we_o must_v look_v to_o it_o that_o it_o the_o good_a of_o our_o brethren_n first_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o shall_v be_v the_o chief_a matter_n that_o we_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o so_o christ_n when_o he_o teach_v we_o to_o when_o they_o be_v in_o outward_a affliction_n when_o they_o be_v upon_o their_o sick_a bed_n than_o they_o will_v pray_v or_o at_o sea_n in_o storm_n than_o they_o will_v pray_v than_o it_o seem_v that_o the_o main_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n be_v only_o for_o yourselves_o but_o how_o have_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o great_a god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n take_v your_o heart_n all_o this_o while_n how_o have_v your_o heart_n be_v affect_v with_o this_o that_o the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v be_v so_o little_o sanctify_v in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n have_v not_o come_v and_o that_o the_o will_n of_o god_n have_v not_o be_v do_v have_v these_o thing_n take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o church_n though_o yourselves_o have_v not_o any_o particular_a interest_n in_o they_o if_o these_o thing_n do_v but_o take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n then_o when_o you_o be_v at_o sea_n you_o will_v remember_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o church_n as_o much_o as_o yourselves_o the_o church_n be_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n toss_v up_o and_o down_o and_o in_o a_o great_a storm_n now_o why_o do_v not_o you_o pray_v as_o earnest_o for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n among_o his_o church_n as_o for_o yourselves_o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n at_o sea_n yea_o and_o spiritual_a thing_n shall_v be_v the_o chief_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n for_o they_o be_v the_o near_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n though_o god_n have_v his_o glory_n from_o other_o thing_n yet_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v near_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n now_o in_o these_o day_n of_o prayer_n many_o will_v come_v to_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v be_v free_v from_o danger_n that_o they_o may_v have_v outward_a peace_n this_o be_v good_a but_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v the_o chief_a thing_n and_o therefore_o the_o strength_n of_o your_o spirit_n shall_v be_v thus_o pour_v forth_o to_o god_n oh_o that_o i_o can_v get_v my_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o assurance_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n o_o that_o i_o can_v get_v the_o indeed_o may_v well_o take_v up_o a_o whole_a sermon_n in_o show_v the_o evil_a of_o the_o wander_a of_o our_o spirit_n in_o prayer_n we_o shall_v take_v heed_n of_o the_o wander_a of_o our_o spirit_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n and_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n and_o so_o in_o prayer_n the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v much_o trouble_v with_o the_o wander_a of_o their_o thought_n both_o in_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o it_o be_v their_o great_a burden_n and_o shall_v be_v so_o but_o i_o never_o hear_v any_o more_o complain_n of_o the_o wander_a of_o their_o spirit_n than_o in_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v much_o pester_v in_o their_o spirit_n with_o this_o evil_a it_o be_v very_o grievous_a unto_o they_o and_o many_o of_o they_o go_v under_o it_o as_o a_o grievous_a burden_n all_o their_o day_n the_o chief_a burden_n that_o be_v upon_o their_o spirit_n be_v their_o wander_a in_o prayer_n so_o that_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o they_o as_o he_o speak_v unto_o solomon_n and_o bid_v he_o ask_v what_o he_o shall_v give_v he_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o they_o will_v ask_v but_o have_v attain_v that_o if_o god_n will_v speak_v from_o heaven_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o give_v you_o for_o yourselves_o if_o he_o shall_v ask_v you_o in_o the_o general_n it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v ask_v something_o for_o the_o church_n but_o if_o it_o be_v for_o yourselves_o you_o will_v put_v up_o this_o petition_n oh_o lord_n that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o thyself_o than_o ever_o yet_o i_o enjoy_v and_o they_o will_v account_v this_o to_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n than_o if_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o to_o be_v king_n or_o queen_n over_o the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n shall_v put_v these_o two_o into_o the_o balance_n either_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o possess_v or_o otherwise_o to_o have_v more_o free_a heart_n in_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o that_o have_v so_o much_o hinder_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n they_o will_v despise_v and_o scorn_v the_o the_o world_n in_o comparison_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n as_o this_o be_v howsoever_o carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v little_a of_o it_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o find_v it_o to_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o they_o but_o be_v the_o time_n be_v past_a i_o shall_v reserve_v that_o to_o speak_v yet_o a_o little_a more_o large_o for_o the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o i_o will_v only_o speak_v one_o thing_n further_o now_o and_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v wicked_a and_o vile_a that_o not_o only_o have_v vain_a wander_a thought_n in_o prayer_n but_o even_o in_o the_o very_a duty_n of_o prayer_n many_o time_n have_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a thought_n how_o horrible_a be_v they_o unclean_a thought_n murderous_a thought_n it_o may_v be_v and_o most_o abominable_a i_o confess_v even_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a may_v sometime_o have_v some_o blasphemous_a thought_n cast_v into_o they_o for_o the_o devil_n be_v never_o more_o busy_a than_o at_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n but_o they_o rather_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n than_o from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v we_o may_v make_v out_o more_o clear_o afterward_o but_o now_o i_o speak_v to_o such_o as_o have_v most_o
