this_o title_n of_o christ_n 2_o the_o person_n for_o who_o this_o title_n relate_v first_o this_o title_n the_o great_a shepherd_n it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a condescension_n in_o christ_n that_o he_o will_v take_v upon_o he_o the_o title_n of_o a_o shepherd_n that_o which_o rather_o express_v love_n and_o care_n than_o power_n and_o dominion_n yet_o he_o be_v please_v to_o assume_v this_o title_n to_o express_v his_o affection_n to_o we_o for_o the_o open_n of_o it_o wherein_o he_o appear_v to_o be_v the_o great_a shepherd_n i_o shall_v lay_v down_o these_o particular_n 1_o he_o be_v great_a in_o the_o dignity_n of_o his_o person_n
triumphant_a manner_n he_o do_v not_o with_o so_o much_o sorrow_n and_o trouble_n to_o himself_o and_o his_o disciple_n go_v to_o as_o triumphant_o come_v from_o the_o grave_a so_o can_v god_n with_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v consider_v because_o of_o its_o epithet_n call_v here_o everlasting_a covenant_n there_o be_v a_o temporal_a covenant_n god_n make_v with_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n and_o that_o be_v seal_v and_o confirm_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o bullock_n etc._n etc._n christ_n take_v not_o on_o he_o this_o covenant_n he_o do_v not_o bind_v man_n to_o stand_v by_o those_o term_n contain_v in_o that_o covenant_n for_o indeed_o christ_n come_v to_o make_v it_o void_a there_o be_v a_o eternal_a covenant_n and_o that_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o those_o term_n of_o grace_n and_o favour_n which_o be_v propose_v to_o we_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o amount_v to_o this_o who_o ever_o repent_v shall_v be_v save_v he_o that_o repent_v and_o forsake_v his_o sin_n shall_v find_v mercy_n and_o that_o he_o will_v be_v merciful_a to_o all_o on_o these_o condition_n in_o all_o part_n of_o the_o world_n for_o these_o term_n god_n will_v not_o repent_v of_o wrought_v by_o our_o or_o his_o own_o power_n 2._o other_o saint_n have_v attain_v this_o assurance_n this_o new_a name_n and_o white_a stone_n within_o they_o obj._n that_o be_v by_o extraordinary_a revelation_n answ_n this_o be_v not_o upon_o proof_n be_v not_o the_o assurance_n of_o god_n people_n in_o scripture_n ground_v upon_o general_a promise_n have_v they_o many_o of_o they_o either_o extrinsical_a sign_n or_o mark_n to_o assure_v they_o of_o it_o do_v it_o not_o spring_v from_o principle_n common_a to_o all_o believer_n obj._n but_o suppose_v they_o have_v assurance_n to_o day_n they_o may_v lose_v it_o to_o morrow_n man_n be_v a_o mutable_a creature_n he_o may_v be_v a_o child_n of_o god_n in_o the_o morning_n and_o a_o brat_n of_o hell_n in_o the_o evening_n answ_n it_o be_v true_a man_n be_v a_o mutable_a creature_n yet_o be_v he_o preserve_v by_o a_o immutable_a god_n man_n be_v a_o weak_a creature_n but_o yet_o be_v preserve_v by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n unto_o notice_n of_o every_o one_o of_o the_o expression_n first_o make_v you_o perfect_a it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o christian_n to_o perfect_v every_o good_a work_n to_o cleanse_v themselves_o from_o all_o the_o impurity_n of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n and_o to_o perfect_a holiness_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n 2_o cor._n 7.1_o second_o in_o every_o good_a work_n in_o matter_n of_o piety_n ready_a cheerful_o willing_a to_o do_v his_o will_n on_o all_o occasion_n but_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a flesh_n and_o blood_n shall_v attain_v to_o this_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v perfect_a to_o
