wicednesse_n and_o to_o talk_v of_o keep_v thy_o faith_n firm_a whilst_o thou_o live_v in_o disobedience_n to_o thy_o lord_n be_v as_o if_o a_o wife_n shall_v say_v she_o be_v careful_a in_o keep_v perfect_a love_n of_o god_n and_o likeness_n to_o he_o and_o so_o make_v they_o capable_a of_o full_a communion_n with_o he_o which_o be_v their_o blessedness_n so_o that_o to_o receive_v christ_n as_o he_o offer_v himself_o to_o we_o which_o be_v our_o faith_n in_o he_o not_o only_o signify_v our_o dependence_n on_o his_o merit_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o also_o include_v in_o it_o pollution_n of_o defile_a nature_n and_o from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o blood_n and_o spirit_n of_o christ._n and_o who_o know_v not_o that_o the_o lord_n supper_n be_v for_o remembrance_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o die_v for_o we_o the_o break_n of_o the_o bread_n and_o pour_v forth_o of_o the_o wine_n how_o fit_o and_o evident_o do_v they_o represent_v to_o we_o that_o his_o body_n be_v break_v and_o his_o blood_n shed_v for_o we_o and_o the_o element_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n which_o we_o common_o use_v to_o nourish_v and_o refresh_v we_o do_v natural_o signify_v that_o strength_n and_o comfort_n which_o we_o receive_v from_o christ_n as_o i_o shall_v hereafter_o show_v at_o large_a since_o then_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o religion_n be_v so_o evident_a the_o duty_n so_o reasonable_a and_o excellent_a the_o ritual_a part_n the_o sacrament_n so_o easy_a so_o few_o and_o so_o exceed_o profitable_a may_v it_o not_o well_o be_v expect_v that_o all_o who_o profess_v themselves_o owner_n of_o that_o religion_n which_o jesus_n christ_n have_v teach_v and_o establish_v shall_v be_v well_o acquaint_v with_o these_o weighty_a truth_n diligent_a in_o the_o practice_n of_o duty_n to_o their_o maker_n and_o saviour_n and_o to_o one_o another_o and_o most_o devout_a and_o serious_a in_o the_o observation_n and_o use_n of_o these_o holy_a sacrament_n &_o constant_a in_o their_o attendance_n upon_o all_o ordinance_n as_o public_a prayer_n and_o preach_v whereby_o they_o may_v be_v instruct_v &_o enable_v to_o know_v and_o do_v the_o will_n of_o he_o that_o send_v they_o into_o the_o world_n but_o alas_o alas_o to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o god_n and_o our_o profession_n and_o to_o the_o grief_n of_o all_o that_o long_o after_o the_o advancement_n of_o true_a goodness_n in_o the_o world_n by_o sad_a experience_n we_o find_v the_o quite_o contrarary_a even_o in_o this_o our_o nation_n that_o we_o look_v no_o further_o god_n forbid_v that_o i_o shall_v go_v about_o to_o disparage_v the_o glorious_a fruit_n of_o our_o reformation_n from_o popish_a
for_o prayer_n or_o receive_v sacrament_n who_o be_v listlesse_a to_o all_o duty_n and_o feel_v no_o sweetness_n in_o they_o all_o such_o may_v hence_o learn_v what_o be_v the_o root_n and_o ground_n of_o this_o distemper_n what_o it_o be_v that_o make_v they_o out_o of_o taste_n with_o these_o rich_a and_o savoury_a provision_n which_o all_o healthful_a soul_n do_v so_o dear_o love_v even_o because_o their_o secret_n but_o most_o powerful_a thought_n be_v that_o they_o have_v nothing_o better_o than_o their_o body_n to_o provide_v for_o and_o that_o to_o do_v this_o be_v the_o chief_a business_n they_o have_v and_o that_o nothing_o be_v of_o any_o great_a use_n which_o make_v not_o for_o this_o end_n but_o it_o will_v be_v quite_o otherwise_o with_o they_o if_o they_o be_v indeed_o clear_o convince_v and_o sound_o persuade_v that_o they_o have_v soul_n which_o will_v never_o die_v and_o that_o these_o be_v their_o best_a part_n and_o deserve_v most_o care_n and_o be_v as_o much_o to_o be_v prefer_v before_o the_o body_n as_o a_o man_n before_o the_o horse_n which_o he_o ride_v on_o and_o that_o these_o their_o immortal_a soul_n can_v only_o be_v make_v happy_a by_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n out_o of_o which_o they_o be_v fall_v by_o sin_v against_o he_o and_o that_o the_o great_a work_n of_o this_o life_n be_v to_o get_v all_o breach_n make_v up_o betwixt_o god_n and_o they_o that_o so_o when_o they_o leave_v this_o world_n they_o may_v be_v restore_v to_o perfect_a happiness_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o that_o they_o can_v no_o way_n be_v thus_o reconcile_v to_o god_n but_o by_o jesus_n christ_n by_o who_o merit_n and_o mediation_n their_o sin_n may_v be_v pardon_v and_o by_o who_o holy_a spirit_n which_o be_v give_v by_o the_o father_n through_o he_o they_o can_v only_o be_v so_o change_v and_o sanctify_v that_o they_o may_v be_v make_v meet_v for_o the_o inheritance_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o heavenly_a light_n of_o god_n presence_n and_o love_n be_v the_o sound_a belief_n of_o these_o plain_a great_a and_o common_o acknowledge_v truth_n but_o well_o root_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n so_o as_o to_o overpower_v and_o change_v their_o affection_n we_o shall_v soon_o perceive_v they_o to_o be_v other_o kind_n of_o person_n in_o all_o their_o behaviour_n if_o they_o take_v it_o for_o the_o business_n of_o their_o life_n to_o work_v out_o their_o salvation_n be_v convince_v that_o they_o have_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n to_o do_v but_o this_o and_o what_o be_v in_o order_n to_o it_o than_o will_v they_o diligent_o labour_v after_o a_o save_a knowledge_n of_o a_o crucify_a christ_n which_o comprehend_v in_o it_o the_o whole_a of_o religion_n and_o then_o they_o will_v high_o prize_v and_o diligent_o attend_v upon_o those_o mean_n which_o christ_n have_v appoint_v for_o the_o manifest_v himself_o and_o convey_v his_o save_a benefit_n to_o the_o soul._n they_o will_v take_v care_n to_o be_v find_v in_o those_o way_n wherein_o christ_n be_v like_a to_o be_v find_v whatever_o have_v relation_n to_o he_o will_v be_v very_o much_o esteem_v by_o they_o and_o they_o will_v never_o be_v at_o quiet_a till_o they_o have_v do_v their_o best_a to_o make_v it_o sure_a that_o they_o have_v get_v a_o interest_n in_o he_o and_o through_o he_o a_o title_n to_o the_o father_n everlasting_a love_n they_o will_v then_o right_o inform_v themselves_o what_o be_v require_v of_o all_o that_o must_v be_v save_v by_o christ_n and_o these_o condition_n they_o will_v endeavour_v to_o come_v up_o to_o and_o perform_v they_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o enter_v into_o the_o most_o solemn_a covenant_n with_o he_o to_o take_v he_o for_o their_o saviour_n in_o all_o his_o office_n by_o he_o to_o be_v bring_v to_o that_o glory_n which_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o true_a believer_n and_o the_o keep_n of_o this_o covenant_n will_v be_v their_o study_n and_o care_n through_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o their_o life_n now_o though_o consider_v these_o thing_n it_o may_v appear_v a_o very_a fit_a method_n for_o the_o cure_n of_o man_n mistake_n and_o direct_v they_o in_o the_o way_n to_o blessedness_n first_o to_o represent_v and_o demonstrate_v to_o they_o that_o they_o have_v immortal_a soul_n and_o that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v their_o only_a portion_n and_o that_o this_o can_v no_o way_n be_v obtain_v but_o by_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o then_o to_o show_v what_o be_v require_v to_o make_v we_o partaker_n of_o happiness_n by_o he_o yet_o since_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o some_o sort_n know_v and_o ready_o confess_v by_o the_o most_o i_o shall_v at_o present_a wave_n this_o method_n and_o choose_v rather_o to_o drive_v at_o the_o last_o of_o these_o which_o will_v be_v find_v to_o contain_v all_o namely_o to_o direct_v and_o exhort_v poor_a soul_n to_o enter_v into_o covenant_n and_o make_v a_o thorough_a closure_n with_o jesus_n christ_n that_o through_o he_o their_o sin_n may_v be_v subdue_v and_o pardon_v their_o person_n and_o nature_n reconcile_v to_o god_n that_o they_o may_v be_v bless_v for_o ever_o in_o communion_n with_o he_o and_o even_o this_o be_v my_o chief_a design_n in_o lay_v down_o the_o follow_a direction_n to_o a_o due_a preparation_n for_o and_o a_o right_a receive_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n and_o in_o give_v motive_n to_o the_o serious_a and_o frequent_a performance_n of_o that_o duty_n which_o i_o look_v upon_o principal_o as_o a_o solemnize_n and_o ratify_v our_o covenant_n with_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o sincerity_n of_o the_o heart_n in_o make_v this_o covenant_n and_o our_o faithfulness_n in_o keep_v it_o be_v the_o very_a heart_n and_o scope_n of_o christianity_n for_o my_o intention_n in_o treat_v of_o this_o subject_n be_v not_o mere_o to_o persuade_v people_n to_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n table_n alas_o what_o a_o poor_a thing_n be_v that_o to_o be_v rest_v in_o but_o to_o instruct_v they_o for_o a_o right_a come_n to_o and_o hearty_a receive_n of_o christ_n himself_o then_o to_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n there_o to_o make_v and_o renew_v their_o covenant_n with_o he_o in_o a_o more_o formal_a and_o express_a manner_n the_o more_o to_o affect_v and_o deeply_o to_o engage_v themselves_o for_o this_o be_v a_o sensible_a and_o solemn_a thing_n will_v be_v apt_a to_o make_v the_o strong_a impression_n upon_o man_n spirit_n and_o perhaps_o they_o will_v be_v soon_o persuade_v to_o this_o work_n because_o it_o be_v so_o much_o fit_v to_o sense_n itself_o but_o the_o great_a danger_n be_v least_o they_o shall_v rush_v upon_o that_o which_o they_o understand_v not_o the_o reason_n of_o and_o think_v they_o have_v do_v enough_o by_o bare_a receive_v the_o sacrament_n without_o consider_v to_o what_o purpose_n they_o do_v it_o which_o will_v be_v great_a madness_n and_o of_o worse_a consequence_n than_o for_o a_o man_n to_o run_v and_o lay_v his_o hand_n upon_o the_o book_n and_o kiss_v it_o and_o use_v the_o like_a ceremony_n of_o a_o oath_n and_o never_o mind_n what_o he_o swear_v to_o nor_o afterward_o think_v what_o he_o have_v do_v though_o it_o be_v about_o a_o matter_n of_o life_n and_o death_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v by_o god_n assistance_n to_o prevent_v this_o miscarriage_n by_o show_v what_o be_v the_o nature_n and_o design_n of_o this_o ordinance_n in_o a_o right_a participation_n whereof_o consist_v so_o much_o of_o religion_n since_o hereby_o a_o man_n profess_v and_o engage_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o sincere_a obedient_a christian_a which_o may_v be_v understand_v by_o this_o comparison_n before_o i_o come_v to_o speak_v to_o it_o more_o full_o that_o more_o ignorant_a reader_n may_v the_o soon_o have_v the_o notion_n fix_v on_o his_o mind_n it_o be_v much_o what_o as_o if_o the_o governor_n of_o a_o city_n after_o there_o have_v be_v a_o seditious_a insurrection_n of_o the_o citizen_n shall_v offer_v pardon_n to_o all_o that_o will_v acknowledge_v their_o fault_n beg_v his_o pardon_n and_o return_v to_o their_o former_a subjection_n and_o peaceable_a behaviour_n and_o moreover_o shall_v enjoin_v all_o that_o be_v thus_o affect_v to_o come_v take_v a_o piece_n of_o money_n which_o he_o will_v give_v abroad_o or_o to_o partake_v of_o a_o feast_n which_o he_o will_v make_v on_o purpose_n for_o the_o entertainment_n of_o such_o now_o will_v it_o not_o be_v madness_n and_o gross_a impudence_n and_o dissemble_v for_o any_o to_o receive_v this_o money_n or_o go_v sit_v at_o this_o table_n who_o be_v resolve_v yet_o to_o continue_v their_o rebellion_n and_o will_v employ_v that_o very_a money_n and_o the_o strength_n they_o receive_v from_o his_o meat_n against_o he_o it_o as_o a_o far_a assurance_n from_o god_n that_o his_o promise_n of_o mercy_n shall_v be_v make_v good_a to_o thou_o chap._n vii_o the_o second_o benefit_n be_v sanctification_n 2._o the_o second_o great_a benefit_n purchase_v by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o hold_v forth_o in_o the_o sacrament_n be_v sanctify_v save_v grace_n for_o the_o enliven_a and_o strengthen_v the_o soul_n of_o believer_n there_o be_v no_o truth_n more_o plain_a in_o the_o whole_a gospel_n than_o that_o one_o great_a end_n of_o christ_n death_n be_v to_o obtain_v from_o the_o father_n that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n shall_v accompany_v the_o proclaim_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o enlighten_v the_o mind_n and_o soften_v the_o heart_n of_o those_o who_o shall_v not_o wilful_o resist_v his_o work_n that_o with_o these_o beware_v i_o say_v as_o ever_o you_o hope_v for_o mercy_n of_o retain_v any_o secret_a like_n to_o sin_n or_o the_o least_o thought_n of_o continue_v in_o it_o still_o whilst_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o stir_v you_o revile_v it_o as_o such_o a_o abominable_a thing_n but_o rather_o if_o you_o find_v in_o your_o soul_n a_o kind_n of_o hanker_a after_o some_o old_a lust_n not_o yet_o thorough_o mortify_v betake_v yourselves_o to_o those_o consideration_n which_o may_v bring_v you_o out_o of_o love_n with_o it_o as_o how_o little_a its_o like_a to_o do_v for_o you_o what_o a_o happiness_n it_o do_v now_o and_o will_v hereafter_o deprive_v you_o of_o what_o a_o misery_n it_o lead_v to_o with_o other_o the_o like_a former_o lay_v down_o and_o quit_v not_o these_o thought_n till_o you_o find_v yourselves_o turn_v against_o it_o for_o once_o again_o let_v i_o assure_v you_o then_o and_o never_o till_o then_o be_v your_o repentance_n right_a when_o you_o be_v not_o only_o bring_v to_o grieve_v for_o sin_n but_o to_o hate_v it_o when_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o only_o break_v in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o it_o but_o be_v break_v off_o from_o and_o thorough_o bend_v against_o it_o though_o this_o exercise_n of_o repentance_n seem_v most_o proper_o preparative_n to_o the_o work_n you_o be_v go_v about_o yet_o in_o such_o a_o penitent_a humble_a frame_n will_v i_o have_v you_o be_v even_o when_o you_o be_v at_o the_o lord_n table_n if_o you_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o mingle_v the_o wine_n with_o tear_n it_o will_v be_v never_o the_o worse_o for_o your_o soul_n and_o must_v it_o not_o needs_o affect_v thou_o to_o behold_v christ_n body_n break_v and_o his_o blood_n pour_v out_o here_o in_o a_o figure_n and_o then_o to_o think_v with_o thyself_o this_o be_v sin_n my_o sin_n even_o my_o pride_n and_o earthliness_n and_o all_o the_o wickedness_n of_o my_o heart_n and_o life_n be_v part_n of_o that_o load_n which_o he_o bear_v on_o his_o own_o body_n on_o the_o cross_n when_o he_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o may_v not_o the_o lord_n call_v to_o i_o and_o even_o show_v i_o the_o print_n of_o my_o many_o grievous_a sin_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o foot_n and_o the_o deep_a stab_n they_o give_v he_o and_o yet_o ungrateful_a wretch_n that_o i_o be_o how_o little_a have_v i_o value_v this_o conformable_o as_o we_o ought_v hereby_o to_o be_v bring_v to_o the_o great_a love_n of_o god_n so_o to_o the_o deep_a hatred_n of_o sin_n and_o humiliation_n for_o it_o but_o i_o have_v former_o more_o full_o show_v how_o the_o consideration_n of_o christ_n death_n may_v bring_v we_o to_o true_a repentance_n and_o what_o i_o there_o speak_v chief_o of_o a_o change_n of_o state_n may_v be_v require_v in_o the_o communicant_a know_v therefore_o that_o i_o press_v no_o sorrow_n but_o what_o be_v a_o preparation_n to_o joy_n and_o do_v even_o animate_v and_o exalt_v it_o whilst_o the_o and_o land_n by_o a_o turf_n so_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o conveyance_n of_o heaven_n itself_o make_v to_o you_o by_o the_o delivery_n of_o the_o sacramental_a bread_n and_o wine_n into_o your_o hand_n and_o when_o you_o receive_v they_o imagine_v you_o hear_v god_n say_v to_o you_o here_z poor_a soul_n take_v this_o in_o earnest_n of_o that_o eternal_a life_n which_o i_o have_v prepare_v for_o and_o will_v bestow_v upon_o thou_o and_o if_o the_o heavenly_a kingdom_n be_v thus_o assure_v to_o you_o on_o condition_n of_o your_o continuance_n in_o the_o love_n of_o god_n you_o need_v do_v in_o order_n to_o thy_o recovery_n he_o have_v send_v his_o own_o son_n make_v of_o a_o woman_n make_v under_o the_o law_n and_o deliver_v he_o to_o death_n for_o our_o offence_n and_o accept_v of_o the_o satisfaction_n he_o have_v make_v on_o the_o behalf_n of_o all_o that_o shall_v by_o he_o come_v to_o that_o god_n from_o who_o they_o be_v fall_v and_o by_o his_o death_n not_o only_o pardon_v of_o sin_n and_o deliverance_n from_o hell_n but_o a_o glorious_a kingdom_n that_o shall_v never_o fade_v be_v purchase_v for_o all_o true_a believer_n so_o that_o here_o 1._o thou_o see_v plain_o there_o be_v hope_n of_o pardon_n and_o acceptance_n upon_o thy_o hearty_a sorrow_n for_o and_o resolution_n against_o sin_n and_o who_o will_v not_o this_o encourage_v to_o come_v in_o free_o acknowledge_v and_o protest_v against_o their_o former_a backslide_n and_o rebellion_n if_o indeed_o thou_o be_v past_a hope_n it_o be_v as_o good_a keep_v thy_o sin_n while_o thou_o may_v and_o make_v thy_o best_a of_o they_o but_o this_o be_v not_o yet_o thy_o case_n and_o if_o it_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v thou_o may_v thank_v thy_o own_o wilfulness_n for_o jesus_n christ_n have_v bring_v in_o a_o better_a hope_n there_o be_v by_o he_o liberty_n proclaim_v to_o the_o captive_a freedom_n to_o all_o that_o be_v bind_v ease_n and_o rest_n to_o all_o that_o be_v burden_v a_o pardon_n to_o all_o that_o be_v penitent_a and_o what_o will_v not_o this_o make_v thou_o stir_v be_v a_o golden_a sceptre_n hold_v forth_o and_o will_v thou_o not_o lay_v hold_n of_o the_o opportunity_n be_v god_n willing_a to_o put_v up_o all_o the_o affront_v he_o have_v receive_v from_o thou_o if_o thou_o will_v now_o come_v and_o submit_v thyself_o and_o will_v not_o this_o bring_v thou_o in_o be_v he_o ready_a to_o be_v reconcile_v and_o be_v thou_o backward_o what_o do_v thou_o rather_o hold_v off_o because_o he_o do_v so_o invite_v and_o importune_v thou_o to_o he_o because_o he_o be_v please_v with_o so_o much_o earnestness_n and_o compassion_n to_o call_v thou_o off_o from_o sin_n to_o himself_o do_v thou_o the_o more_o secure_o run_v on_o in_o wickedness_n oh_o base_a ingratitude_n and_o mere_a madness_n because_o there_o be_v hope_n of_o pardon_n discover_v by_o the_o gospel_n as_o procure_v by_o christ_n therefore_o even_o therefore_o do_v wretched_a sinner_n harden_v their_o heart_n and_o embolden_v themselves_o to_o continue_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o god_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o nothing_o to_o get_v their_o peace_n make_v with_o he_o or_o as_o if_o he_o must_v of_o necessity_n pardon_n and_o save_v they_o let_v they_o live_v as_o they_o list_v thus_o vile_o do_v they_o pervert_v the_o very_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n whereas_o be_v they_o ingenuous_a and_o reasonable_a they_o will_v acknowledge_v it_o to_o be_v a_o most_o forcible_a motive_n and_o engagement_n to_o cast_v away_o sin_n to_o hear_v that_o there_o be_v hope_n of_o have_v forgiveness_n and_o favour_n from_o god_n if_o a_o company_n of_o subject_n shall_v rebel_v against_o their_o prince_n what_o course_n will_v be_v more_o effectual_a in_o all_o probability_n to_o reclaim_v they_o than_o to_o assure_v pardon_n to_o all_o that_o will_v throw_v down_o their_o arm_n but_o if_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o base_a as_o to_o abuse_v the_o mercy_n of_o their_o prince_n and_o think_v because_o he_o be_v so_o compassionate_a they_o may_v the_o safe_o persist_v in_o their_o rebellion_n it_o be_v but_o just_a they_o shall_v be_v destroy_v if_o thou_o love_v thy_o soul_n then_o beware_v how_o thou_o abuse_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n will_v thou_o put_v away_o from_o thou_o the_o evil_n of_o thy_o do_n wash_v thou_o and_o make_v the_o clean_a and_o so_o with_o humility_n and_o submission_n fly_v to_o god_n for_o mercy_n if_o so_o this_o mercy_n through_o christ_n shall_v be_v assure_o thou_o but_o otherwise_o know_v there_o be_v not_o a_o word_n of_o comfort_n for_o thou_o in_o the_o whole_a gospel_n nothing_o but_o what_o may_v strike_v thou_o with_o terror_n for_o remember_v well_o that_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n give_v all_o the_o encouragement_n in_o the_o world_n to_o repentance_n but_o not_o the_o least_o to_o sin_n yea_o it_o have_v do_v more_o to_o destroy_v sin_n than_o all_o the_o terror_n and_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n well_o then_o though_o thou_o be_v a_o lose_a sinner_n depart_v from_o god_n once_o without_o hope_n yet_o behold_v the_o god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n take_v pity_n on_o thou_o he_o will_v not_o have_v thou_o utter_o perish_v though_o thou_o have_v do_v so_o much_o to_o destroy_v thyself_o he_o call_v thou_o back_o to_o he_o if_o thou_o will_v hearken_v and_o obey_v and_o humble_a thy_o self_n before_o he_o for_o thy_o departure_n from_o he_o and_o for_o all_o the_o dishonour_v do_v to_o his_o holy_a name_n and_o will_v now_o at_o length_n devote_v thyself_o to_o his_o fear_n thou_o need_v not_o doubt_v of_o his_o favour_n so_o then_o here_o be_v hope_n of_o mercy_n that_o may_v encourage_v all_o that_o hear_v it_o to_o repentance_n 2._o and_o in_o the_o next_o place_n there_o infidel_n or_o brutish_a sinner_n that_o will_v not_o be_v bring_v so_o much_o as_o once_o to_o consider_v of_o it_o or_o serious_o regard_v it_o here_o be_v love_n that_o pass_v the_o full_a comprehension_n of_o man_n or_o angel_n here_o be_v mystery_n and_o unsearchable_a treasure_n of_o goodness_n wherein_o can_v god_n commend_v his_o love_n more_o to_o the_o fall_a world_n than_o in_o give_v his_o son_n to_o die_v for_o we_o when_o we_o be_v without_o help_n and_o what_o great_a love_n can_v be_v show_v than_o that_o which_o christ_n have_v manifest_v in_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o his_o friend_n nay_o for_o enemy_n that_o they_o may_v be_v make_v friend_n for_o the_o ungodly_a that_o he_o may_v reconcile_v they_o to_o god_n vile_a wretch_n that_o we_o be_v no_o more_o and_o how_o contrary_a to_o his_o nature_n do_v we_o know_v more_o what_o strange_a condescension_n there_o be_v in_o god_n manifest_v himself_o in_o flesh_n what_o bitter_a thing_n our_o bless_a saviour_n endure_v for_o our_o sake_n do_v we_o know_v the_o greatness_n of_o that_o misery_n he_o have_v save_v believer_n from_o and_o of_o the_o glory_n he_o have_v prepare_v for_o they_o do_v we_o clear_o know_v these_o and_o all_o other_o heighten_v circumstance_n our_o admiration_n and_o astonishment_n will_v be_v unexpressible_a as_o it_o will_v be_v when_o they_o be_v more_o full_o reveal_v to_o we_o but_o though_o at_o present_a we_o â—re_n much_o in_o the_o dark_a yet_o so_o much_o of_o they_o we_o know_v that_o will_v we_o due_o ponder_v they_o we_o shall_v even_o amaze_v cry_v out_o oh_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o what_o will_v not_o this_o prevail_v with_o thou_o oh_o backslide_n sinner_n to_o deal_v ingenuous_o and_o dutiful_o with_o that_o god_n who_o have_v reveal_v such_o abundant_a mercy_n to_o win_v thou_o to_o himself_o when_o thou_o have_v undo_v thyself_o and_o the_o law_n which_o thou_o have_v break_v have_v past_o its_o sentence_n upon_o thou_o when_o thou_o may_v just_o have_v expect_v the_o execution_n behold_v without_o thy_o seek_n a_o gracious_a reprieve_n and_o more_o than_o so_o when_o thou_o may_v have_v have_v a_o pursuivant_n speedy_o dispatch_v to_o hurry_v thou_o to_o deserve_a torment_n behold_v a_o saviour_n interpose_v to_o prevent_v thy_o ruin_n instead_o of_o a_o unchangeable_a doom_n behold_v a_o act_n of_o oblivion_n assure_v pardon_n upon_o easy_a condition_n do_v but_o deliberate_o weigh_v these_o thing_n with_o that_o seriousness_n which_o become_v a_o man_n and_o see_v if_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o they_o that_o may_v persuade_v thou_o to_o a_o sound_a repentance_n for_o sin_n and_o a_o speedy_a return_n to_o the_o god_n of_o love_n what_o do_v thou_o think_v if_o thou_o be_v a_o mean_a tenant_n and_o have_v wilful_o in_o some_o discontend_v fit_a pluck_v down_o the_o house_n thou_o live_v in_o &_o so_o waste_v in_o danger_n to_o lie_v in_o the_o open_a field_n and_o to_o be_v severe_o punish_v as_o thou_o have_v deserve_v what_o now_o if_o after_o all_o this_o thy_o landlord_n pity_v the_o misery_n thou_o have_v bring_v thyself_o to_o shall_v courteous_o come_v to_o thou_o and_o offer_v to_o build_v up_o thy_o house_n again_o in_o a_o more_o sumptuous_a manner_n than_o ever_o and_o set_v it_o at_o a_o low_a rent_n only_o require_v thou_o to_o confess_v thy_o former_a folly_n and_o promise_v to_o be_v so_o guilty_a no_o more_o but_o to_o live_v thy_o new-built_a house_n and_o do_v thy_o best_a to_o keep_v it_o in_o repair_n and_o to_o accept_v of_o his_o help_n for_o what_o thou_o can_v not_o do_v thyself_o and_o suppose_v he_o shall_v even_o impoverish_v his_o own_o child_n through_o this_o courtesy_n to_o thou_o what_o do_v thou_o think_v thou_o shall_v now_o do_v in_o this_o case_n be_v it_o any_o hard_a matter_n to_o determine_v will_v thou_o not_o think_v he_o deserve_v to_o be_v take_v for_o a_o madman_n that_o shall_v stand_v justify_v his_o former_a offence_n and_o will_v not_o thankful_o accept_v these_o courteous_a offer_n i_o dare_v say_v reader_n if_o this_o be_v thy_o case_n thou_o be_v not_o so_o foolish_a or_o stubborn_a but_o thou_o will_v quick_o resolve_v what_o to_o do_v and_o this_o mercy_n and_o bounty_n of_o thy_o landlord_n will_v even_o win_v thy_o heart_n for_o ever_o and_o thou_o will_v think_v thou_o can_v never_o be_v sufficient_o thankful_a for_o his_o kindness_n nor_o do_v enough_o to_o make_v he_o amends_o and_o will_v indeed_o the_o gentleness_n and_o liberality_n of_o a_o man_n thy_o fellow-creature_n thus_o affect_v thou_o and_o shall_v not_o the_o love_a kindness_n of_o god_n which_o have_v appear_v in_o jesus_n christ_n have_v much_o more_o power_n upon_o thou_o not_o then_o like_a to_o see_v any_o great_a need_n of_o christ_n or_o any_o excellency_n in_o he_o that_o shall_v make_v he_o desirable_a for_o he_o come_v not_o into_o the_o world_n to_o help_v carnal_a wretch_n to_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o their_o idol_n but_o to_o turn_v their_o heart_n off_o they_o to_o the_o live_n and_o true_a god_n and_o therefore_o as_o they_o who_o have_v choose_v this_o god_n for_o their_o portion_n do_v make_v it_o their_o great_a work_n to_o get_v a_o interest_n in_o christ_n the_o mediator_n and_o do_v live_v upon_o and_o make_v use_n of_o he_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o their_o portion_n so_o they_o that_o have_v make_v the_o please_a of_o their_o flesh_n with_o any_o worldly_a thing_n their_o ultimate_a end_n they_o be_v diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n that_o may_v help_v on_o this_o their_o base_a end_n the_o voluptuous_a brutish_a sinner_n hunt_v after_o sensual_a pleasure_n in_o their_o meat_n and_o drink_n wantonness_n sloth_n excessive_a sport_n and_o merry_a jovial_a company_n the_o covetous_a man_n who_o have_v a_o greedy_a insatiable_a fancy_n to_o gratify_v whole_o spend_v himself_o in_o treasure_v up_o wealth_n and_o he_o taste_v sweetness_n in_o nothing_o but_o his_o gain_n his_o bond_n and_o bill_n and_o lease_n be_v better_a thing_n to_o he_o than_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o his_o house_n and_o land_n and_o money_n more_o precious_a than_o the_o blood_n of_o christ._n and_o so_o the_o proud_a and_o ambitious_a that_o will_v fain_o have_v much_o esteem_n and_o honour_n in_o the_o world_n which_o be_v the_o most_o natural_a vice_n to_o almost_o every_o man_n they_o pursue_v their_o design_n by_o labour_v to_o get_v into_o high_a place_n to_o make_v
zeal_n for_o he_o shall_v be_v find_v pure_a selfishnesse_n and_o therefore_o they_o dare_v not_o make_v their_o own_o private_a apprehension_n which_o they_o find_v not_o in_o the_o creed_n nor_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o standard_n and_o measure_n of_o such_o as_o must_v pass_v for_o godly_a and_o be_v think_v worthy_a their_o regard_n and_o esteem_v which_o be_v the_o constant_a note_n of_o one_o addict_v to_o a_o party_n but_o i_o say_v they_o will_v have_v their_o friendship_n as_o large_a as_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n since_o it_o be_v for_o his_o sake_n that_o they_o have_v
