so_o if_o obedience_n prayer_n goodwork_n or_o any_o gift_n stand_v up_o upon_o suchlike_a term_n reject_v they_o as_o accuser_n of_o their_o brethren_n persuade_v by_o satan_n to_o act_v his_o part_n but_o if_o faith_n accuse_v itself_o or_o be_v accuse_v by_o other_o as_o the_o acan_a be_v ready_a to_o confess_v the_o fact_n i_o have_v sin_v these_o be_v innocent_a i_o have_v a_o great_a trust_n in_o the_o army_n i_o carry_v the_o shield_n but_o fiery_a dart_n fall_v as_o thick_a as_o hail_v i_o faint_v and_o flee_v away_o i_o be_o the_o guilty_a ionas_n cast_v i_o overboard_o and_o you_o shall_v live_v now_o in_o this_o state_n call_v every_o grace_n to_o its_o station_n let_v the_o rower_n row_v hard_a let_v the_o steerage_n be_v ply_v and_o call_v to_o he_o who_o the_o wind_n and_o sea_n obey_v but_o if_o the_o trouble_a conscience_n still_o foam_n and_o the_o spirit_n bluster_v from_o on_o high_a and_o no_o hope_n to_o bring_v it_o safe_a to_o land_n there_o be_v no_o remedy_n faith_n hope_n love_n etc._n etc._n such_o i_o say_v as_o if_o a_o man_n can_v give_v his_o whole_a substance_n for_o it_o will_v be_v contemn_v but_o if_o a_o practical_a gift_n command_v by_o god_n as_o a_o offer_n from_o thou_o fall_v under_o this_o self-condemnation_n then_o neither_o be_v so_o hasty_a to_o call_v other_o to_o its_o assistance_n nor_o yet_o to_o cast_v it_o out_o because_o he_o that_o so_o command_v have_v also_o give_v it_o a_o certain_a talon_n to_o perform_v at_o least_o in_o some_o measure_n but_o rather_o stir_v it_o up_o to_o take_v a_o oar_n into_o its_o own_o hand_n that_o be_v if_o prayer_n say_v i_o be_o formal_a i_o profit_v not_o i_o have_v no_o life_n in_o i_o if_o charity_n say_v i_o be_o a_o merit-monger_n and_o my_o alm_n hypocritical_a if_o fast_v say_v i_o be_o vainglorious_a and_o pharisaical_a cast_v we_o overboard_o and_o be_v safe_a do_v not_o humour_v they_o at_o all_o in_o this_o but_o encourage_v they_o to_o ply_v afresh_o
he_o that_o in_o his_o natural_a state_n walk_v in_o full_a riot_n sin_v bold_o in_o contempt_n of_o god_n and_o piety_n if_o god_n shall_v yet_o bring_v this_o man_n under_o conviction_n by_o strong_a hand_n his_o call_n be_v usual_o in_o great_a terror_n and_o this_o usual_o put_v he_o upon_o a_o more_o legal_a and_o superstitious_a way_n of_o worship_n and_o not_o seldom_o more_o out_o of_o a_o servile_a fear_n of_o punishment_n than_o a_o true_a love_n of_o god_n or_o good_a so_o as_o the_o old_a root_n of_o concupiscence_n be_v not_o pluck_v up_o but_o bring_v under_o by_o fear_n of_o wrath_n and_o therefore_o as_o former_o he_o find_v that_o by_o contempt_n of_o god_n and_o duty_n wrath_n be_v exasperate_v so_o now_o by_o a_o more_o servile_a fear_n and_o rigid_a obedience_n he_o seek_v to_o procure_v peace_n and_o therefore_o be_v superstitious_a in_o all_o thing_n rigid_a towards_o other_o and_o ready_a to_o persecute_v all_o not_o of_o his_o own_o length_n and_o his_o evil_a way_n for_o the_o lord_n delight_v not_o in_o the_o death_n of_o a_o sinner_n as_o it_o be_v write_v ezek._n 18.21_o if_o the_o wicked_a turn_n from_o all_o his_o sin_n and_o keep_v my_o whatsoever_o thing_n be_v hateful_a to_o its_o belove_a and_o be_v most_o please_a to_o god_n and_o man._n fear_v i_o say_v of_o the_o sin-revenging_a god_n may_v as_o with_o a_o anvil_n and_o its_o own_o eye_n for_o until_o the_o soul_n have_v full_o learn_v by_o sure_a experience_n what_o need_v it_o stand_v of_o that_o mercy_n which_o dwell_v above_o it_o can_v never_o be_v perfect_a
