this_o general_a faith_n which_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n but_o a_o historical_a faith_n which_o ground_v only_o on_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n whereby_o i_o know_v that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n be_v true_a but_o the_o papist_n dare_v not_o come_v and_o say_v they_o be_v true_a in_o i_o why_o because_o they_o have_v not_o feel_v it_o and_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o open_v but_o our_o justify_n faith_n as_o i_o tell_v you_o consecrate_v the_o whole_a soul_n unto_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n in_o christ._n so_o that_o it_o rest_v not_o only_o upon_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n nor_o so_o it_o be_v that_o the_o promise_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n be_v perform_v and_o make_v effectual_a not_o in_o bread_n and_o wine_n but_o in_o faithful_a man_n and_o woman_n therefore_o these_o bread_n or_o any_o dumb_a element_n there_o be_v no_o man_n will_v enter_v into_o covenant_n with_o his_o servant_n much_o less_o will_v enter_v inter_fw-la covenant_n with_o a_o dumb_a element_n so_o in_o respect_n this_o sacrament_n seal_v up_o a_o covenant_n this_o covenant_n of_o necessity_n must_v be_v make_v with_o a_o faithful_a soul_n and_o in_o no_o wise_a with_o the_o dumb_a element_n the_o only_a mark_n whereby_o the_o child_n of_o god_n &_o member_n of_o christ_n body_n be_v know_v from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n love_n be_v that_o holy_a oil_n that_o refresh_v our_o soul_n and_o make_v we_o like_a unto_o god_n and_o the_o moâ—e_n we_o grow_v in_o love_n the_o more_o god_n by_o his_o spirit_n dwell_v in_o we_o for_o god_n be_v love_n so_o that_o except_o in_o some_o measure_n love_n towards_o thy_o neighbour_n dwell_v in_o thy_o heart_n thou_o can_v have_v no_o society_n with_o thy_o neighbour_n and_o far_o less_o with_o god_n if_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n be_v examine_v by_o this_o rule_n we_o shall_v find_v a_o multitude_n of_o godless_a people_n in_o this_o country_n who_o have_v their_o heart_n rage_v with_o malice_n one_o against_o another_o and_o where_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o malicious_a spirit_n dwell_v there_o be_v no_o place_n for_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o although_o the_o lord_n have_v go_v about_o by_o all_o mean_v possible_a early_o and_o late_o to_o instruct_v they_o and_o to_o infuse_v into_o they_o this_o precious_a love_n and_o amity_n towards_o god_n and_o their_o neighbour_n and_o so_o to_o alter_v their_o condition_n yet_o they_o will_v not_o suffer_v themselves_o to_o be_v waken_v until_o the_o great_a vengeance_n and_o malediction_n of_o god_n fall_v upon_o they_o this_o love_n this_o honest_a and_o godly_a conversation_n flow_v always_o from_o the_o root_n of_o faith_n so_o that_o if_o thy_o heart_n have_v faith_n in_o any_o measure_n be_v it_o never_o so_o little_a in_o that_o same_o measure_n thou_o must_v have_v love_n towards_o thy_o neighbour_n and_o this_o love_n be_v never_o idle_a but_o be_v utter_v itself_o in_o one_o effect_n or_o other_o and_o
apprehension_n of_o the_o meat_n and_o drink_v that_o be_v the_o food_n of_o the_o body_n so_o there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o apprehension_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n jesus_n which_o be_v our_o meat_n and_o drink_v spiritual_a of_o meat_n and_o drink_v corporal_a there_o be_v a_o apprehension_n by_o the_o eye_n and_o by_o the_o taste_n that_o while_o the_o meat_n be_v present_a unto_o you_o on_o the_o table_n your_o eye_n take_v a_o view_n of_o that_o meat_n discern_v it_o and_o make_v choice_n of_o it_o and_o not_o only_o the_o eye_n but_o also_o the_o taste_n discern_v the_o meat_n and_o the_o taste_n approve_v it_o that_o be_v call_v the_o first_o apprehension_n now_o upon_o this_o which_o be_v the_o first_o the_o second_o apprehension_n follow_v that_o be_v after_o that_o you_o have_v chew_v that_o meat_n swallow_v it_o and_o send_v it_o to_o your_o stomach_n where_o it_o digest_v and_o convert_v into_o your_o nouriture_n then_o in_o your_o stomach_n you_o get_v the_o second_o apprehension_n but_o if_o your_o eye_n like_v not_o that_o meat_n neither_o your_o taste_n like_o it_o the_o second_o apprehension_n follow_v not_o for_o thou_o will_v spit_v it_o out_o again_o or_o reject_v it_o prefer_v some_o other_o meat_n unto_o it_o that_o thou_o like_v better_a that_o meat_n which_o thou_o like_v not_o enters_z never_o into_o thy_o stomach_n and_o so_o it_o can_v never_o be_v convert_v into_o thy_o nourishment_n for_o it_o be_v only_o the_o second_o apprehension_n of_o the_o meat_n that_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o nourishment_n of_o the_o body_n in_o our_o corporal_a food_n so_o that_o if_o you_o chew_v not_o this_o meat_n and_o swallow_v it_o it_o feed_v you_o not_o than_o it_o be_v only_o the_o second_o apprehension_n that_o nourish_v our_o body_n it_o be_v even_o so_o in_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o far_o as_o they_o may_v be_v compare_v in_o the_o food_n of_o christ_n jesus_n who_o be_v the_o life_n and_o nouriture_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o conscience_n there_o must_v be_v two_o sort_n of_o apprehension_n of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o first_o apprehension_n be_v by_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n that_o be_v by_o our_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n for_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o body_n discern_v by_o a_o outward_a light_n so_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n discern_v by_o a_o inward_a and_o renew_a understanding_n whereby_o we_o get_v the_o first_o apprehension_n of_o christ._n now_o if_o this_o first_o apprehension_n of_o christ_n like_o we_o well_o than_o the_o next_o follow_v we_o begin_v to_o cast_v the_o affection_n of_o our_o heart_n on_o he_o we_o have_v good_a will_n to_o he_o for_o all_o our_o affection_n proceed_v from_o our_o will_n and_o our_o affection_n be_v renew_v and_o make_v holy_a we_o set_v they_o whole_o upon_o christ._n we_o love_v he_o and_o if_o we_o love_v he_o we_o take_v hold_v of_o he_o and_o digest_v he_o that_o be_v we_o apply_v he_o to_o we_o can_v digest_v he_o and_o if_o we_o digest_v he_o not_o that_o spiritual_a life_n can_v grow_v in_o we_o for_o mark_n in_o what_o place_n the_o eye_n serve_v to_o the_o body_n in_o the_o same_o room_n serve_v knowledge_n and_o understanding_n to_o thy_o soul_n and_o look_v in_o what_o place_n thy_o hand_n and_o thy_o mouth_n thy_o taste_n and_o thy_o stomach_n serve_v unto_o thy_o body_n in_o that_o very_a place_n serve_v the_o heart_n and_o affection_n unto_o thy_o soul_n so_o that_o as_o our_o body_n can_v be_v nourish_v except_o our_o hand_n take_v and_o our_o mouth_n eat_v the_o meat_n whereby_o the_o second_o apprehension_n may_v follow_v likewise_o our_o soul_n can_v feed_v on_o christ_n except_o we_o hold_v he_o and_o embrace_v he_o hearty_o by_o our_o will_n and_o affection_n for_o we_o come_v not_o to_o christ_n by_o any_o outward_a motion_n of_o our_o body_n but_o by_o a_o inward_a motion_n &_o apprehension_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o god_n find_v we_o all_o in_o a_o reprobate_a sense_n he_o bring_v we_o to_o christ_n by_o reform_v the_o affection_n of_o our_o soul_n by_o make_v we_o to_o love_v he_o and_o therefore_o the_o second_o apprehension_n whereby_o we_o digest_v our_o saviour_n will_v never_o enter_v into_o our_o soul_n except_o as_o he_o please_v the_o eye_n so_o he_o please_v the_o will_n and_o the_o affection_n also_o now_o if_o otherwise_o then_o our_o doctor_n of_o medicine_n for_o if_o they_o see_v any_o certain_a sign_n of_o death_n they_o will_v not_o show_v it_o to_o the_o patient_n himself_o but_o to_o some_o of_o his_o friend_n he_o on_o the_o contrary_n denounce_v death_n to_o himself_o constant_o affirm_v that_o he_o shall_v die_v now_o this_o appear_v to_o be_v very_o hard_a but_o i_o answer_v if_o this_o denunciation_n have_v be_v use_v against_o a_o ethnic_a or_o a_o licentious_a liver_n indeed_o it_o have_v be_v a_o hard_a denunciation_n for_o as_o to_o a_o ethnic_a who_o have_v his_o hope_n only_o in_o the_o earth_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o he_o can_v make_v his_o hope_n to_o mount_v above_o the_o earth_n so_o that_o he_o think_v when_o he_o be_v go_v all_o be_v go_v to_o he_o second_o this_o denunciation_n will_v appear_v hard_a and_o extreme_a to_o they_o that_o live_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n for_o o_o how_o bitter_a be_v death_n say_v solomon_n to_o they_o that_o live_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n and_o i_o pray_v you_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o death_n be_v so_o bitter_a unto_o they_o because_o in_o the_o agony_n of_o death_n they_o feel_v another_o thing_n then_o this_o violent_a separation_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o body_n for_o beside_o this_o they_o feel_v a_o conscience_n of_o iniquity_n gnaw_v they_o they_o feel_v also_o the_o heavy_a wrath_n of_o god_n kindle_v against_o their_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o this_o wrath_n strike_v such_o a_o horror_n in_o their_o soul_n that_o at_o the_o very_a memory_n of_o death_n they_o tremble_v therefore_o i_o say_v to_o such_o kind_n of_o person_n as_o those_o this_o will_v have_v be_v a_o hard_a kind_n of_o threaten_v but_o unto_o christian_n and_o namely_o to_o such_o a_o godly_a king_n as_o this_o be_v it_o be_v no_o hard_a language_n for_o as_o to_o we_o that_o we_o christian_n we_o must_v not_o look_v on_o death_n as_o she_o be_v in_o she_o own_o nature_n but_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o she_o as_o she_o be_v make_v to_o we_o by_o the_o benefit_n and_o mercy_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o look_v on_o death_n this_o way_n be_v not_o death_n spoil_v of_o her_o sting_n be_v she_o not_o sanctify_v to_o we_o in_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v she_o not_o make_v to_o we_o a_o entry_n to_o everlasting_a felicity_n be_v she_o not_o a_o return_v from_o our_o banishment_n and_o pass_v to_o our_o everlasting_a heaven_n so_o look_v on_o death_n not_o in_o the_o own_o nature_n but_o as_o she_o be_v make_v to_o we_o in_o christ_n at_o the_o voice_n of_o death_n we_o ought_v to_o lift_v up_o our_o eye_n and_o be_v glad_a that_o the_o redemption_n of_o our_o soul_n be_v so_o near_o when_o the_o separation_n shall_v be_v make_v &_o the_o lord_n shall_v call_v on_o we_o we_o ought_v to_o rejoice_v see_v he_o have_v make_v death_n to_o we_o a_o further_a step_n to_o joy_n and_o a_o mean_n of_o a_o strict_a conjunction_n but_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o word_n can_v make_v man_n prepare_v they_o for_o death_n the_o ready_a way_n to_o eschew_v the_o horror_n of_o death_n be_v to_o think_v upon_o death_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o of_o all_o the_o great_a spectacle_n that_o we_o see_v daily_o we_o be_v never_o a_o hair_n move_v always_o the_o ready_a way_n as_o i_o have_v say_v be_v to_o take_v up_o such_o a_o life_n present_o as_o may_v best_o agree_v with_o that_o life_n which_o we_o aspire_v unto_o thou_o must_v take_v up_o a_o new_a course_n thou_o must_v conform_v thy_o life_n here_o with_o the_o life_n to_o come_v that_o a_o harmony_n be_v betwixt_o the_o two_o life_n death_n may_v be_v to_o thou_o a_o entry_n to_o that_o everlasting_a joy_n thou_o must_v bid_v all_o thy_o foul_a affection_n good_a night_n for_o thou_o and_o they_o can_v come_v both_o to_o heaven_n thou_o must_v bid_v sin_n whereunto_o thou_o be_v a_o slave_n and_o a_o ordinary_a servant_n farewell_n for_o except_o thou_o be_v this_o way_n alter_v thou_o must_v not_o think_v that_o death_n shall_v be_v to_o thou_o a_o passage_n to_o heaven_n then_o learn_v you_o that_o will_v have_v death_n pleasant_a so_o to_o rule_v and_o square_v this_o life_n that_o it_o may_v agree_v in_o some_o measure_n with_o the_o life_n to_o come_v omission_n the_o second_o omission_n that_o appear_v in_o this_o denunciation_n be_v this_o â—t_z seem_v to_o be_v superfluous_a for_o why_o the_o kind_a of_o plague_n assure_v he_o of_o his_o death_n the_o physician_n assure_v he_o the_o weakness_n of_o his_o own_o nature_n assure_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v die_v so_o the_o denunciation_n seem_v to_o be_v superfluous_a but_o it_o be_v not_o superfluous_a in_o deed_n if_o we_o shall_v examine_v our_o own_o nature_n how_o loath_a all_o man_n be_v to_o die_v for_o we_o know_v by_o experience_n that_o there_o be_v some_o who_o will_v scarce_o take_v death_n to_o they_o even_o at_o the_o last_o gasp_n and_o what_o love_n we_o have_v to_o this_o life_n it_o be_v know_v to_o all_o man_n therefore_o the_o prophet_n so_o strict_o denounce_v death_n that_o by_o this_o strict_a denunciation_n the_o king_n may_v be_v move_v to_o lift_v his_o hope_n above_o nature_n and_o all_o natural_a mean_n and_o of_o god_n only_o to_o seek_v support_v where_o nature_n have_v deny_v he_o and_o so_o the_o denunciation_n be_v not_o superfluous_a it_o be_v the_o ready_a way_n to_o make_v he_o run_v unto_o the_o right_a way_n now_o the_o last_o omission_n that_o appear_v in_o this_o denunciation_n be_v this_o the_o lord_n seem_v by_o his_o prophet_n to_o dissemble_v omission_n for_o be_v not_o this_o a_o high_a dissimulation_n to_o say_v that_o he_o shall_v die_v and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o to_o mean_v the_o contrary_a so_o there_o appear_v a_o great_a dissimulation_n on_o god_n part_v denounce_v by_o his_o prophet_n that_o he_o shall_v die_v instant_o and_o yet_o he_o be_v of_o mind_n that_o he_o shall_v live_v fifteen_o year_n after_o this_o to_o answer_v unto_o this_o this_o general_n must_v be_v lay_v down_o for_o a_o ground_n that_o unto_o all_o the_o threaten_n and_o promise_n of_o god_n there_o be_v a_o condition_n annex_v which_o condition_n be_v either_o secret_o enclose_v in_o the_o promise_n or_o threaten_a or_o else_o it_o be_v open_o express_v that_o this_o be_v true_a see_v ezechiel_n the_o 18.1_o and_o dan_o 4.27_o this_o condition_n have_v place_n then_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o threaten_n of_o god_n this_o terrible_a denunciation_n how_o terrible_a soever_o it_o appear_v yet_o it_o have_v a_o condition_n in_o it_o to_o wit_n except_o he_o repent_v except_o he_o seek_v i_o and_o make_v his_o recourse_n to_o i_o by_o prayer_n for_o out_o of_o question_n the_o lord_n be_v of_o mind_n to_o punish_v niniâ—e_n except_o they_o have_v prevent_v he_o by_o repentance_n so_o i_o say_v all_o the_o promise_n and_o threaten_n of_o god_n have_v a_o condition_n annex_v which_o be_v either_o open_o express_v or_o covert_o to_o be_v understand_v and_o therefore_o the_o denunciation_n have_v a_o secret_a condition_n and_o this_o condition_n make_v the_o king_n to_o live_v for_o suppose_v it_o be_v simple_o propound_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o to_o bring_v he_o to_o despair_n but_o only_o to_o make_v he_o the_o more_o instant_a to_o sâ—eke_v grace_n &_o health_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o live_a god_n now_o have_v i_o touch_v the_o greatness_n the_o time_n and_o the_o kind_n of_o the_o disease_n let_v we_o make_v our_o profit_n thereof_o for_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o this_o doctrine_n
many_o evil_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n and_o it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o there_o have_v be_v many_o good_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n yet_o never_o one_o of_o these_o seek_a death_n for_o itself_o for_o it_o be_v not_o natural_a to_o seek_v the_o dissolution_n of_o ourselves_o but_o these_o evil_a man_n that_o seek_v death_n and_o put_v hand_n on_o themselves_o in_o their_o appearance_n they_o seek_v it_o for_o a_o better_a to_o wit_n to_o eschew_v the_o present_a torment_n and_o vexation_n of_o hell_n in_o their_o conscience_n wherein_o they_o be_v think_v that_o their_o miserable_a soul_n be_v out_o of_o the_o body_n shall_v be_v at_o great_a liberty_n then_o if_o it_o be_v detain_v in_o this_o prison_n but_o they_o be_v all_o deceive_v for_o suppose_v hell_n be_v begin_v here_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o in_o a_o full_a measure_n until_o this_o life_n be_v do_v and_o so_o the_o miserable_a caitiff_n deceive_v himself_o on_o the_o other_o side_n there_o have_v be_v good_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n but_o not_o for_o itself_o but_o for_o a_o better_a if_o they_o know_v not_o &_o feel_v not_o that_o there_o be_v a_o better_a life_n to_o follow_v after_o death_n they_o will_v not_o seek_v it_o but_o by_o reason_n they_o see_v there_o be_v a_o great_a joy_n to_o follow_v after_o it_o therefore_o they_o regard_v not_o to_o taste_v in_o some_o measure_n for_o the_o present_a of_o the_o bitterness_n of_o death_n it_o it_o true_a again_o &_o i_o grant_v that_o death_n unto_o thou_o who_o be_v a_o christian_n be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o death_n of_o our_o master_n and_o saviour_n christ_n jesus_n for_o bless_a be_v the_o death_n of_o they_o that_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n but_o suppose_v the_o death_n be_v sanctify_v yet_o thou_o be_v not_o whole_o sanctify_v for_o if_o thou_o be_v as_o sanctify_v as_o the_o death_n thou_o will_v not_o have_v such_o a_o thing_n as_o terror_n pain_n or_o grief_n in_o thy_o death_n but_o see_v in_o the_o best_a of_o we_o all_o there_o be_v a_o remnant_n of_o corruption_n will_v to_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o remnant_n so_o thick_a and_o foul_a that_o it_o be_v shame_n to_o speak_v of_o it_o this_o corruption_n urge_v the_o conscience_n so_o that_o where_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v there_o must_v be_v a_o fear_n and_o the_o more_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v the_o great_a be_v the_o pain_n and_o terror_n it_o be_v true_a that_o this_o fear_n be_v temper_v by_o faith_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o hope_n of_o joy_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o faithful_a soul_n hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n that_o hope_v of_o heavenly_a joy_n so_o swallow_v up_o and_o devour_v the_o fear_n and_o make_v it_o to_o appear_v to_o the_o looker_n on_o that_o the_o soul_n have_v no_o fear_n but_o no_o doubt_n there_o be_v a_o fear_n and_o it_o be_v sure_a there_o be_v some_o grief_n it_o be_v only_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o hope_n of_o that_o heavenly_a joy_n that_o hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n where_o this_o hope_n be_v not_o terrible_a be_v that_o fear_n wonderful_a be_v these_o terror_n great_a be_v that_o anguish_n of_o soul_n that_o be_v there_o so_o that_o i_o can_v find_v name_n to_o express_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v the_o countenance_n of_o god_n in_o his_o justice_n there_o be_v no_o creature_n that_o can_v abide_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v their_o own_o sin_n present_v themselves_o the_o ouglinesse_n and_o guiltiness_n of_o sin_n and_o beside_o all_o these_o to_o be_v leave_v destitute_a of_o hope_n it_o be_v not_o the_o least_o part_n of_o their_o grief_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o regard_v for_o man_n will_v not_o rise_v to_o get_v faith_n if_o it_o shall_v cost_v they_o but_o a_o hour_n they_o will_v not_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n this_o be_v a_o wonderful_a and_o miserable_a madness_n that_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n that_o he_o will_v never_o provide_v for_o hell_n until_o hell_n catch_v he_o death_n now_o to_o come_v to_o our_o purpose_n the_o less_o the_o corruption_n be_v the_o less_o must_v be_v the_o fear_n wherein_o then_o shall_v your_o exercise_n stand_v shall_v you_o not_o study_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n for_o he_o that_o will_v be_v void_a of_o fear_n must_v travel_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n that_o the_o conscience_n may_v be_v clean_o and_o you_o may_v have_v a_o good_a testimony_n which_o make_v man_n to_o be_v without_o terror_n for_o as_o long_o as_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n and_o of_o worldly_a thing_n occupy_v our_o soul_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o it_o can_v be_v without_o fear_n for_o why_o there_o be_v no_o heart_n that_o can_v willing_o part_v with_o the_o thing_n that_o it_o love_v without_o exceed_a sorrow_n and_o grief_n then_o we_o shall_v travel_v to_o take_v order_n with_o these_o affection_n and_o love_n to_o worldly_a thing_n but_o so_o far_o as_o they_o may_v serve_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o in_o god_n to_o love_v ourselves_o and_o our_o neighbour_n that_o when_o he_o call_v no_o strange_a love_n may_v draw_v we_o from_o he_o there_o be_v a_o common_a law_n in_o all_o city_n concern_v the_o forbid_a good_n which_o be_v discharge_v plain_o to_o be_v carry_v out_o of_o the_o country_n where_o we_o be_v present_o and_o suppose_v they_o be_v carry_v they_o can_v serve_v to_o no_o use_n in_o the_o country_n whither_o we_o go_v to_o let_v you_o see_v the_o exposition_n of_o the_o parable_n i_o say_v the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n &_o the_o care_n thereof_o the_o love_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o lust_n thereof_o be_v these_o forbid_a good_n which_o serve_v to_o no_o use_n in_o the_o country_n whither_o we_o go_v yea_o they_o be_v plain_o forbid_v by_o the_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o let_v we_o cast_v off_o all_o contrary_a love_n only_o let_v we_o love_n god_n and_o in_o god_n let_v we_o love_v our_o neighbour_n now_o if_o i_o may_v obtain_v this_o one_o lesson_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n i_o will_v think_v my_o travel_n very_o well_o bestow_v and_o therefore_o i_o insist_v so_o much_o the_o more_o in_o it_o that_o it_o may_v sink_v into_o your_o heart_n now_o than_o this_o good_a king_n fear_v which_o tell_v i_o that_o in_o all_o christian_n there_o be_v some_o fear_n i_o come_v to_o the_o next_o what_o say_v he_o in_o his_o trouble_n and_o perturbation_n the_o effect_n of_o the_o thing_n he_o say_v be_v this_o first_o he_o say_v he_o see_v his_o own_o death_n prepare_v for_o he_o next_o because_o he_o be_v trouble_v with_o it_o and_o cast_v in_o a_o great_a perturbation_n he_o subjoin_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o be_v so_o grieve_v and_o as_o i_o may_v gather_v they_o they_o be_v three_o in_o number_n but_o ere_o i_o come_v to_o the_o reason_n i_o will_v tell_v you_o his_o own_o word_n which_o he_o say_v in_o time_n of_o his_o trouble_n he_o say_v i_o shall_v go_v down_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o the_o grave_n i_o be_o draw_v near_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n for_o so_o soon_o as_o i_o hear_v the_o prophet_n say_v that_o i_o shall_v die_v so_o soon_o i_o begin_v to_o prepare_v i_o for_o it_o for_o if_o all_o threaten_n come_v to_o pass_v as_o the_o prophet_n have_v say_v if_o i_o find_v no_o outgate_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n i_o must_v die_v for_o this_o i_o know_v that_o i_o be_o a_o mortal_a man_n and_o suppose_v i_o be_v a_o king_n and_o a_o glorious_a king_n yet_o i_o be_o not_o exempt_v from_o death_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v prepare_v i_o for_o it_o he_o know_v well_o that_o suppose_v he_o make_v himself_o ready_a he_o be_v not_o one_o hair_n near_o to_o death_n now_o sure_o if_o you_o will_v follow_v this_o king_n application_n you_o will_v be_v a_o thousand_o time_n ready_a and_o more_o able_a to_o live_v than_o you_o be_v in_o your_o disease_n but_o you_o be_v cast_v up_o in_o such_o a_o dainty_a and_o delicate_a fashion_n that_o no_o man_n will_v suffer_v to_o hear_v of_o death_n say_v it_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o will_v further_a man_n to_o die_v but_o i_o say_v the_o contrary_a and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n say_v the_o contrary_a i_o say_v the_o ready_a you_o be_v
zeal_n or_o of_o force_n we_o shall_v be_v spoil_v of_o it_o thus_o far_o concern_v the_o second_o cause_n king_n as_o to_o the_o three_o i_o shall_v touch_v it_o short_o and_o so_o i_o shall_v end_v the_o three_o cause_n be_v this_o he_o say_v he_o shall_v see_v man_n no_o more_o among_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o earth_n now_o what_o a_o cause_n be_v this_o this_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o very_a slight_a cause_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v grieve_v at_o his_o death_n because_o he_o shall_v see_v man_n no_o more_o for_o i_o be_o assure_v there_o be_v man_n in_o his_o day_n who_o he_o take_v no_o pleasure_n to_o see_v and_o who_o he_o can_v not_o see_v without_o great_a grief_n even_o such_o monster_n as_o be_v now_o in_o our_o day_n this_o general_n must_v be_v restrain_v to_o this_o as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v i_o shall_v not_o see_v man_n that_o be_v faithful_a man_n honest_a and_o obedient_a subject_n to_o god_n and_o their_o king_n of_o who_o company_n i_o have_v delight_n and_o who_o protection_n i_o be_v i_o shall_v see_v these_o good_a man_n no_o more_o he_o have_v such_o a_o care_n of_o the_o church_n and_o of_o the_o christian_a subject_n under_o he_o that_o in_o the_o very_a hour_n of_o his_o death_n he_o show_v his_o compassion_n towards_o they_o and_o be_v grieve_v that_o they_o shall_v lack_v his_o protection_n in_o time_n come_v well_o application_n the_o country_n be_v exceed_v bless_v that_o have_v such_o a_o prince_n who_o be_v endue_v with_o the_o care_n of_o his_o subject_n and_o special_o of_o the_o church_n that_o in_o his_o death_n he_o be_v sorry_a that_o they_o shall_v be_v deprive_v of_o his_o protection_n and_o turn_v it_o over_o again_o as_o curse_a and_o unhappy_a be_v that_o country_n who_o have_v a_o king_n that_o have_v no_o kind_n of_o care_n or_o respect_n of_o his_o subject_n much_o less_o of_o god_n church_n which_o be_v the_o best_a part_n of_o his_o subject_n therefore_o it_o be_v every_o one_o of_o your_o duty_n that_o hear_v i_o &_o see_v what_o it_o be_v to_o lack_v this_o blessing_n to_o crave_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v distil_v his_o grace_n into_o his_o majesty_n heart_n which_o may_v move_v he_o to_o take_v up_o another_o manner_n of_o protection_n then_o hitherto_o he_o have_v do_v oh_o will_v to_o god_n it_o be_v so_o thus_o far_o for_o the_o exposition_n of_o the_o cause_n short_o in_o all_o these_o cause_n some_o thing_n be_v worthy_a of_o praise_n reason_n and_o some_o thing_n be_v worthy_a of_o dispraise_n for_o i_o stand_v not_o to_o justify_v he_o in_o they_o all_o they_o be_v worthy_a of_o commendation_n so_o far_o as_o they_o flow_v from_o faith_n and_o tend_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o weal_n of_o his_o church_n they_o be_v worthy_a of_o reproof_n so_o far_o as_o they_o flow_v from_o the_o foolish_a affection_n &_o corruption_n of_o nature_n without_o the_o which_o none_o can_v be_v so_o long_o as_o we_o be_v in_o this_o life_n then_o you_o see_v the_o best_a good_n that_o we_o have_v to_o carry_v with_o we_o of_o our_o own_o be_v this_o corruption_n &_o foolish_a affection_n no_o question_n king_n have_v not_o this_o power_n to_o carry_v their_o jewel_n &_o magnificencâ—_n with_o they_o but_o sure_o they_o carry_v their_o vice_n &_o fault_n of_o their_o government_n with_o they_o which_o shall_v meet_v they_o and_o sure_o if_o this_o good_a king_n carry_v any_o of_o this_o stuff_n with_o he_o much_o more_o shall_v other_o king_n and_o as_o it_o be_v in_o king_n so_o be_v it_o in_o every_o of_o we_o we_o shall_v all_o carry_v with_o we_o virtue_n or_o vice_n if_o we_o carry_v virtue_n with_o we_o then_o shall_v we_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n to_o meet_v we_o there_o exhortation_n then_o to_o end_v this_o matter_n prepare_v your_o heart_n and_o make_v both_o hand_n and_o heart_n void_a of_o the_o love_n and_o affection_n of_o the_o world_n that_o your_o heart_n be_v busy_v only_o with_o the_o love_n of_o good_a thing_n you_o may_v carry_v your_o heart_n with_o you_o when_o the_o lord_n call_v and_o as_o your_o ear_n be_v bend_v to_o receive_v this_o word_n so_o let_v it_o be_v digest_v in_o your_o heart_n that_o in_o your_o death_n i_o may_v see_v the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n thereof_o and_o see_v we_o must_v either_o carry_v with_o we_o virtue_n or_o vice_n the_o favour_n of_o god_n faith_n and_o of_o the_o good_a spirit_n of_o god_n no_o question_n they_o be_v worthy_a of_o praise_n and_o so_o far_o as_o they_o flow_v from_o the_o king_n unruly_a affection_n they_o be_v worthy_a of_o dispraise_n and_o sure_o it_o appear_v by_o the_o word_n that_o his_o affection_n have_v be_v somewhat_o unruly_a well_o the_o lesson_n that_o i_o gather_v be_v this_o be_v the_o profit_n that_o we_o reap_v of_o these_o preposterous_a affection_n they_o draw_v our_o love_n from_o god_n to_o the_o creature_n and_o ere_o these_o affection_n can_v be_v draw_v from_o the_o creature_n they_o bring_v such_o a_o grief_n unto_o they_o as_o it_o be_v another_o death_n therefore_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o crave_v be_v that_o you_o shall_v set_v your_o affection_n upon_o god_n the_o truth_n &_o uncertain_a then_o be_v the_o life_n of_o man_n here_o beneath_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o subject_a to_o instability_n then_o this_o life_n which_o we_o live_v in_o this_o body_n for_o as_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o tent_n you_o see_v whether_o you_o call_v they_o tent_n pavilion_n or_o tabernacle_n all_o be_v one_o by_o experience_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o unstable_a nor_o uncertain_a to_o dwell_v in_o then_o be_v a_o tent_n for_o why_o it_o lack_v a_o ground_n it_o lack_v a_o foundation_n and_o stability_n and_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o ground_n it_o lean_v only_o to_o certain_a pin_n which_o enter_v not_o deep_o into_o the_o earth_n and_o consequent_o by_o the_o light_a blast_n of_o every_o wind_n they_o be_v blow_v up_o and_o when_o the_o pin_n fail_v the_o tent_n fall_v so_o the_o king_n will_v teach_v we_o by_o this_o similitude_n that_o this_o life_n of_o we_o lack_v a_o ground_n lack_v a_o foundation_n and_o lack_v a_o stability_n and_o therefore_o the_o king_n in_o this_o comparison_n will_v send_v we_o to_o the_o life_n which_o have_v the_o sure_a ground_n foundation_n and_o stability_n he_o send_v we_o to_o that_o kingdom_n which_o as_o the_o apostle_n heb._n 12._o say_v can_v be_v shake_v by_o no_o kind_n of_o stormy_a blast_n and_o as_o i_o remember_v heb._n 11_o 9.10_o there_o in_o these_o verse_n the_o apostle_n make_v a_o flat_a
