have_v choose_v out_o this_o piece_n of_o scripture_n which_o you_o hear_v now_o read_v unto_o you_o which_o contain_v a_o short_a exhortation_n to_o love_n a_o short_a lesson_n &_o soon_o learned_a that_o we_o love_v one_o another_o in_o a_o word_n it_o be_v no_o more_o but_o that_o we_o have_v sincere_a love_n one_o with_o a_o other_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a lesson_n &_o soon_o bear_v away_o the_o dull_a memory_n that_o be_v here_o present_a may_v easy_o bear_v it_o away_o and_o the_o simple_a wit_n among_o we_o may_v without_o any_o great_a discourse_v of_o the_o matter_n straightway_o understande_v it_o that_o we_o need_v not_o pretend_v any_o excuse_n of_o simplicity_n and_o dulness_n whereas_o the_o playnnesse_n and_o shortness_n will_v straightway_o convince_v us._n it_o be_v then_o a_o lesson_n soon_o learned_a which_o we_o have_v here_o teach_v unto_o we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o if_o nothing_o else_o be_v require_v but_o as_o scholar_n in_o grammar_n school_v to_o con_v it_o by_o heart_n and_o say_v by_o rote_n we_o may_v dispatch_v it_o in_o a_o minute_n of_o a_o hour_n but_o alas_o good_a brethren_n because_o it_o be_v in_o christ_n school_n we_o must_v not_o only_o like_o grammar_n scholar_n have_v it_o by_o heart_n but_o like_o christ_n scholar_n have_v the_o feel_n and_o love_n of_o it_o in_o our_o heart_n not_o only_o by_o rote_n like_o child_n say_v it_o with_o our_o mouth_n but_o like_o god_n child_n practise_v it_o in_o our_o deed_n and_o herein_o good_a lord_n how_o small_o have_v we_o profit_v this_o xv_o year_n learn_v the_o practice_n of_o this_o lesson_n in_o christ_n school_n or_o if_o we_o have_v learn_v it_o how_o soon_o have_v we_o forget_v it_o or_o if_o we_o have_v both_o know_v it_o and_o thought_n upon_o it_o in_o what_o case_n be_v we_o that_o so_o general_o have_v use_v continual_o against_o our_o own_o conscience_n &_o knowledge_n to_o do_v contrary_a unto_o it_o well_o for_o that_o which_o be_v pass_v let_v we_o repent_v and_o now_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n let_v we_o begin_v more_o deep_o to_o consider_v the_o thing_n especial_o see_v the_o dear_a son_n of_o god_n exhort_v we_o thereunto_o and_o say_v i_o give_v you_o a_o new_a commandment_n that_o you_o love_v one_o a_o other_o if_o a_o prince_n or_o any_o noble_a personage_n speak_v unto_o we_o exhort_v we_o to_o any_o good_a thing_n we_o use_v to_o give_v attentive_a care_n and_o for_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o person_n the_o word_n have_v credit_n with_o we_o that_o we_o dare_v not_o do_v contrary_a thereunto_o for_o fear_n of_o lose_v their_o good_a will_n and_o favour_n what_o shall_v we_o then_o say_v to_o our_o saviour_n christ_n the_o king_n of_o king_n above_o all_o the_o noble_n upon_o the_o earth_n who_o do_v here_o exhort_v we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o shall_v we_o make_v none_o account_v of_o his_o word_n but_o without_o regard_n fling_v they_o at_o our_o heel_n not_o care_v for_o the_o loss_n of_o his_o heavenly_a favour_n who_o give_v his_o own_o self_n to_o the_o death_n to_o purchase_v our_o life_n sure_o we_o shall_v then_o declare_v ourselves_o to_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o bruit_n beast_n who_o yet_o we_o that_o require_v of_o we_o that_o we_o love_v one_o a_o other_o if_o he_o have_v but_o slender_o handle_v our_o matter_n concern_v our_o redemption_n we_o have_v be_v but_o in_o slender_a case_n we_o who_o majesty_n we_o dare_v so_o bold_o abuse_v if_o it_o be_v high_a treason_n to_o cast_v off_o the_o word_n of_o a_o prince_n &_o make_v no_o account_n of_o they_o what_o shall_v we_o say_v of_o the_o reject_v the_o word_n of_o this_o our_o heavenly_a prince_n and_o saviour_n you_o see_v then_o it_o stand_v we_o in_o hand_n diligent_o to_o hear_v prudent_o to_o mark_v and_o deep_o to_o weigh_v these_o word_n which_o here_o be_v speak_v for_o they_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n who_o of_o his_o unspeakable_a love_n have_v give_v himself_o for_o us._n and_o yet_o further_o than_o this_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o time_n when_o these_o word_n be_v speak_v it_o will_v make_v we_o yet_o a_o little_a more_o careful_a to_o think_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v at_o such_o time_n as_o he_o be_v now_o near_o his_o death_n for_o in_o the_o verse_n go_v
before_o he_o tell_v they_o he_o be_v go_v from_o they_o these_o word_n be_v utter_v then_o by_o our_o saviour_n christ_n when_o he_o be_v go_v to_o his_o death_n as_o a_o thing_n special_o to_o be_v mark_v of_o we_o &_o which_o he_o know_v to_o be_v most_o needful_a for_o we_o and_o therefore_o of_o we_o more_o to_o be_v consider_v and_o mark_v yea_o and_o never_o to_o be_v forget_v but_o dead_a even_o so_o in_o like_a manner_n will_v these_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n speak_v at_o his_o death_n pierce_v the_o heart_n of_o any_o of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n unless_o they_o be_v bastard_n and_o no_o son_n we_o can_v not_o if_o we_o love_v the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o remember_v this_o his_o last_o lesson_n which_o he_o give_v we_o for_o his_o farewell_n and_o i_o be_o sure_a unto_o the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o pierce_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o their_o tender_a heart_n to_o hear_v they_o so_o love_o teach_v of_o their_o love_a lord_n than_o any_o other_o rough_a manner_n of_o deal_v because_o they_o be_v child_n and_o not_o slave_n and_o therefore_o serve_v of_o love_n and_o not_o of_o slavish_a fear_n although_o it_o be_v sometime_o needful_a for_o the_o best_a of_o they_o to_o feel_v of_o the_o love_a correction_n of_o their_o love_a father_n for_o the_o tame_n of_o their_o wild_a flesh_n but_o because_o in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n all_o be_v not_o child_n which_o have_v the_o outward_a countenance_n of_o child_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a company_n of_o dissemble_a hypocrite_n which_o take_v the_o liberty_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o live_v after_o the_o flesh_n &_o do_v nothing_o but_o only_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o all_o love_a kind_n of_o deal_v &_o laugh_v in_o their_o sleeve_n when_o they_o hear_v any_o such_o exhortation_n because_o they_o will_v not_o be_v teach_v by_o fair_a mean_n and_o as_o you_o will_v say_v by_o manner_n of_o entreaty_n therefore_o the_o lord_n jesus_n for_o their_o cause_n especial_o deal_v after_o a_o other_o sort_n here_o in_o this_o sentence_n and_o call_v this_o same_o his_o admonition_n to_o love_v not_o only_o a_o friendly_a exhortation_n as_o by_o way_n of_o request_n but_o also_o a_o commandment_n not_o only_o a_o matter_n of_o entreaty_n forsooth_o to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v as_o best_o like_v we_o but_o a_o special_a commandment_n to_o be_v do_v whether_o we_o will_v or_o no_o whether_o we_o like_v it_o or_o not_o like_o it_o unless_o we_o will_v abide_v the_o penalty_n of_o disobedience_n and_o herein_o then_o he_o deal_v with_o we_o not_o only_o as_o a_o love_a friend_n to_o exhort_v but_o also_o as_o a_o prince_n of_o authority_n to_o command_v that_o if_o we_o shall_v violent_o cast_v off_o from_o we_o all_o kind_n of_o friendly_a admonition_n here_o and_o think_v we_o have_v escape_v well_o because_o we_o have_v break_v in_o sunder_o all_o the_o fast_a bond_n of_o love_a exhortation_n we_o shall_v yet_o understand_v he_o be_v our_o prince_n that_o have_v his_o judgement_n seat_n to_o arrayne_a we_o there_o to_o answer_v the_o breach_n of_o his_o bless_a commandment_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o think_v or_o say_v oh_o i_o will_v indeed_o love_v my_o brethren_n but_o it_o be_v at_o leisure_n when_o i_o see_v my_o time_n and_o when_o i_o think_v best_a but_o rather_o think_v because_o it_o be_v command_v we_o we_o must_v do_v it_o whether_o we_o will_v or_o no_o not_o at_o our_o pleasure_n but_o at_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o commander_n unless_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o his_o curse_n in_o his_o judgement_n seat_n so_o than_o you_o see_v what_o we_o have_v to_o mark_v in_o this_o where_o the_o lord_n jesus_n do_v not_o only_o exhort_v but_o command_v we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o that_o be_v that_o we_o not_o only_o have_v a_o cold_a affection_n thereunto_o but_o that_o we_o be_v lively_o touch_v with_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o commander_n set_v before_o our_o eye_n his_o princely_a judgement_n seat_n where_o he_o will_v bring_v in_o trial_n all_o stubborn_a breach_n of_o his_o bless_a commandment_n although_o they_o be_v never_o so_o smooth_o pass_v over_o in_o this_o life_n you_o see_v then_o this_o have_v or_o at_o least_o wise_a aught_o to_o have_v a_o wonderful_a weighty_a force_n with_o it_o where_o the_o lord_n jesus_n fall_v a_o command_a and_o therefore_o ought_v of_o we_o deep_o to_o be_v consider_v and_o not_o cold_o for_o fashion_v embrace_v because_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o not_o only_o will_v but_o command_v it_o but_o alas_o it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a thing_n to_o see_v the_o authority_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n so_o small_o regard_v among_o we_o if_o once_o the_o will_n of_o a_o prince_n be_v but_o know_v it_o be_v a_o wonder_n to_o see_v how_o ready_o we_o be_v to_o frame_v ourselves_o thereunto_o but_o if_o he_o fall_v a_o command_a who_o do_v not_o then_o tremble_v at_o his_o displeasure_n but_o the_o lord_n jesus_n may_v entreat_v pray_v and_o beseech_v nay_o straight_o charge_n and_o command_v and_o for_o all_o that_o not_o regard_v of_o a_o straw_n it_o declare_v certain_o good_a brethren_n that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o god_n among_o we_o but_o only_o a_o certain_a worldly_a fear_n of_o man_n and_o yet_o the_o one_o kill_v the_o body_n alone_o 28._o the_o other_o throw_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n into_o hell_n fire_n eternal_a oh_o good_a brethren_n let_v we_o not_o deceive_v ourselves_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o command_v we_o let_v we_o obey_v he_o charge_v we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o let_v it_o be_v do_v not_o only_o say_v but_o do_v do_v do_v let_v we_o earnest_o repent_v that_o we_o have_v be_v so_o slack_a in_o do_v this_o commandment_n for_o our_o saviour_n hitherto_o that_o we_o to_o good_a scholar_n in_o the_o school_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n let_v we_o have_v love_n and_o peace_n among_o we_o and_o sure_o than_o he_o will_v dwell_v among_o we_o and_o protect_v we_o for_o sincere_a and_o sound_a or_o no_o for_o when_o he_o say_v let_v your_o love_n among_o yourselves_o be_v such_o a_o kind_n of_o love_n as_o i_o be_v towards_o you_o he_o condemn_v all_o feign_a and_o vain_a love_n all_o corrupt_a love_n gainful_a love_n tongue-love_n false_a love_n and_o such_o like_a and_o bid_v look_v as_o his_o love_n be_v towards_o we_o so_o let_v our_o love_n be_v one_o towards_o a_o other_o his_o love_n be_v not_o towards_o we_o when_o we_o be_v his_o friend_n but_o even_o then_o he_o love_v we_o when_o we_o be_v his_o enemy_n and_o give_v his_o life_n for_o we_o this_o be_v a_o special_a point_n to_o be_v consider_v of_o we_o good_a brethren_n and_o pithy_o to_o be_v weigh_v for_o it_o touch_v we_o very_o near_o we_o be_v so_o corrupt_a in_o judgement_n and_o measure_v all_o thing_n so_o by_o our_o own_o ease_n that_o we_o think_v it_o sufficient_a if_o we_o have_v make_v some_o countenance_n of_o love_n to_o they_o that_o never_o do_v we_o harm_n when_o as_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o rage_n like_o cruel_a beast_n against_o those_o which_o have_v but_o a_o little_a touch_v we_o with_o harm_n and_o injury_n and_o we_o think_v we_o may_v do_v it_o lawful_o it_o be_v so_o general_a a_o thing_n and_o touch_v the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n so_o near_o that_o if_o he_o do_v or_o speak_v but_o any_o ill_n by_o we_o we_o think_v we_o may_v very_o just_o be_v incense_v against_o he_o 8._o yea_o but_o be_v the_o love_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n so_o in_o that_o manner_n nay_o he_o love_v we_o even_o when_o we_o be_v his_o enemy_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o our_o love_n must_v be_v in_o like_a manner_n one_o towards_o another_o not_o only_o to_o they_o that_o love_v we_o but_o also_o to_o they_o that_o be_v our_o enemy_n our_o saviour_n christ_n tell_v we_o 32._o that_o the_o very_a heathen_a will_n so_o love_v one_o another_o as_o long_o as_o they_o have_v no_o harm_n and_o we_o will_v be_v ashamed_a be_v christian_n to_o be_v no_o better_o than_o they_o we_o say_v we_o be_v christian_a man_n and_o not_o heathen_a let_v we_o than_o i_o pray_v you_o proceed_v one_o step_n further_o than_o the_o heathen_a who_o will_v with_o it_o and_o hardly_o shall_v a_o man_n bring_v we_o to_o any_o good_a agreement_n we_o be_v so_o hard_o heart_v it_o will_v not_o out_o of_o our_o stomach_n but_o we_o must_v be_v revenge_v strait_a way_n we_o will_v wait_v he_o at_o the_o advantage_n once_o in_o our_o life_n time_n to_o be_v even_o with_o he_o if_o we_o can_v what_o be_v this_o else_o but_o to_o provoke_v god_n fierce_a wrath_n and_o indignation_n upon_o we_o and_o to_o heap_v god_n judgement_n upon_o we_o jesus_n christ_n tell_v we_o even_o so_o will_v our_o heavenly_a father_n deal_v with_o us._n do_v it_o not_o now_o then_o stand_v we_o in_o hand_n to_o forgive_v one_o another_o to_o put_v malice_n and_o hatred_n out_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o now_o at_o the_o length_n to_o learn_v perfect_o this_o lesson_n at_o our_o saviour_n his_o hand_n to_o love_v one_o another_o as_o he_o love_v we_o not_o only_o they_o that_o do_v we_o good_a but_o even_o our_o enemy_n and_o they_o that_o hate_v us._n true_a it_o be_v we_o must_v never_o love_v the_o sin_n of_o our_o enemy_n nor_o of_o none_o else_o but_o always_o be_v in_o deadly_a hatred_n with_o that_o but_o yet_o we_o must_v love_v and_o pity_v the_o person_n of_o our_o enemy_n that_o be_v in_o danger_v thereby_o and_o if_o this_o be_v well_o weigh_v you_o shall_v see_v that_o we_o have_v more_o need_n to_o pity_n then_o to_o hate_v our_o enemy_n if_o there_o be_v any_o injury_n or_o harm_n do_v unto_o we_o either_o by_o word_n or_o deed_n 22._o they_o that_o do_v it_o be_v guilty_a of_o hell_n fire_n so_o say_v jesus_n christ_n will_v it_o know_v in_o what_o dangerous_a estate_n their_o soul_n be_v whereas_o they_o in_o spite_n and_o rage_n against_o he_o be_v so_o blind_a that_o they_o can_v not_o see_v it_o but_o alas_o he_o see_v it_o and_o pity_v their_o case_n 34._o and_o pray_v say_v o_o father_n forgive_v they_o they_o can_v not_o tell_v what_o they_o do_v they_o be_v even_o almost_o in_o the_o gulf_n of_o hell_n and_o yet_o see_v it_o not_o they_o be_v so_o blind_a in_o their_o rage_n that_o they_o run_v headlong_o to_o hell_n and_o never_o think_v upon_o it_o the_o same_o affection_n must_v be_v in_o we_o towards_o our_o enemy_n if_o we_o be_v of_o the_o same_o spirit_n of_o christ_n we_o must_v pity_v their_o case_n that_o have_v do_v any_o harm_n or_o injury_n against_o we_o &_o thus_o think_v o_o lord_n god_n this_o their_o fact_n be_v damnable_a before_o thy_o eye_n they_o have_v deserve_v hell_n fire_n and_o yet_o o_o lord_n they_o see_v it_o not_o good_a lord_n give_v they_o heart_n and_o mind_n to_o see_v their_o sin_n that_o they_o may_v see_v in_o what_o danger_n they_o be_v in_o and_o so_o turn_v unto_o thou_o and_o repent_v thus_o you_o see_v how_o we_o must_v pity_v our_o enemy_n and_o pray_v for_o they_o &_o do_v what_o we_o can_v to_o bring_v they_o out_o of_o the_o danger_n there_o be_v none_o without_o so_o much_o natural_a affection_n but_o he_o will_v pity_v the_o life_n of_o any_o thing_n be_v in_o danger_n if_o it_o be_v but_o a_o ox_n or_o a_o ass_n to_o put_v it_o out_o of_o the_o mire_n if_o he_o can_v there_o be_v none_o so_o brutish_a that_o will_v suffer_v the_o life_n of_o a_o beast_n to_o perish_v if_o he_o can_v help_v it_o much_o more_o be_v the_o life_n of_o man_n to_o be_v pity_v be_v in_o danger_n but_o much_o more_o be_v the_o everlasting_a life_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n to_o be_v tender_v be_v in_o danger_n while_o thy_o enemy_n rage_v against_o thou_o with_o all_o despite_n and_o villainy_n his_o poor_a soul_n be_v in_o peril_n to_o be_v drown_v in_o the_o gulf_n of_o hell_n ought_v not_o thou_o to_o pity_v his_o estate_n and_o reach_v out_o thy_o hand_n to_o help_v he_o out_o and_o not_o like_o a_o unmerciful_a man_n to_o plunge_v he_o down_o to_o be_v drown_v that_o thou_o may_v revenge_v thy_o spite_n and_o malice_n for_o the_o injury_n &_o harm_n he_o have_v do_v unto_o thou_o there_o be_v none_o so_o cruel_a that_o will_v deal_v so_o with_o a_o very_a beast_n if_o we_o have_v receive_v any_o harm_n at_o any_o beast_n hand_n either_o a_o stroke_n with_o a_o horse_n his_o foot_n or_o such_o like_a if_o we_o shall_v happen_v to_o see_v the_o poor_a beast_n after_o that_o in_o peril_n of_o drown_v be_v there_o any_o so_o cruel_a that_o he_o may_v be_v revenge_v of_o the_o harm_n do_v unto_o he_o will_v let_v the_o poor_a beast_n starve_v or_o else_o violent_o push_v he_o headlong_o and_o hold_v down_o his_o head_n to_o drown_v he_o surely_n none_o will_v do_v it_o unless_o he_o be_v worse_o a_o thousand_o fold_n then_o a_o beast_n what_o do_v we_o mean_v then_o see_v the_o soul_n of_o our_o enemy_n in_o so_o great_a peril_n by_o continuance_n in_o their_o sin_n that_o we_o do_v not_o pity_v their_o case_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o to_o help_v they_o out_o but_o rather_o to_o revenge_v our_o malice_n do_v soon_o push_v they_o in_o forwards_o headlong_a to_o destruction_n nay_o rather_o what_o do_v we_o mean_v in_o push_v they_o forward_o to_o destruction_n to_o throw_v ourselves_o down_o headlong_o with_o they_o to_o the_o pit_n of_o hell_n for_o what_o be_v it_o else_o when_o we_o bear_v hatred_n spite_n and_o malice_n against_o they_o it_o be_v murder_n before_o god_n and_o therefore_o guilty_a of_o hell_n sire_n have_v we_o not_o then_o notable_o prevail_v against_o our_o enemy_n 15._o when_o for_o pure_a spiteful_a love_n and_o revengeful_a good_a will_n towards_o they_o we_o will_v even_o jump_v with_o they_o into_o the_o dungeon_n of_o hell_n this_o be_v not_o to_o love_v one_o another_o as_o the_o lord_n love_v we_o well_o then_o good_a brethren_n i_o pray_v you_o let_v we_o look_v unto_o it_o we_o must_v love_v one_o another_o yea_o even_o our_o enemy_n for_o so_o do_v christ_n love_v we_o his_o enemy_n we_o must_v love_v their_o soul_n and_o pity_v their_o soul_n and_o help_v they_o even_o as_o we_o can_v we_o must_v not_o so_o much_o regard_v the_o take_v and_o esteem_v of_o man_n we_o will_v say_v so_o all_o of_o we_o and_o so_o will_v glad_o be_v count_v christian_a man_n well_o then_o let_v we_o look_v if_o there_o be_v love_n among_o we_o for_o say_v will_v not_o serve_v he_o tell_v we_o man_n shall_v take_v we_o for_o christian_a man_n not_o because_o we_o can_v bold_o say_v so_o but_o because_o they_o see_v among_o we_o love_n sincere_a love_n pure_a love_n no_o dissemble_n colour_v nor_o gloss_a but_o simple_a tender_a love_n one_o towards_o another_o even_o as_o he_o love_v we_o that_o be_v the_o cognisance_n whereby_o of_o their_o several_a master_n so_o be_v this_o the_o cognisance_n and_o badge_n of_o true_a christian_a man_n from_o a_o false_a dissemble_a christian_a its_o intolerable_a to_o abuse_v any_o princess_n name_n without_o some_o warrant_n &_o shall_v we_o be_v so_o bold_a with_o the_o lord_n christ_n to_o abuse_v his_o name_n with_o the_o title_n of_o christian_a man_n when_o we_o be_v nothing_o so_o if_o any_o dare_v be_v so_o bold_a as_o to_o make_v a_o face_n and_o brace_v unto_o the_o poor_a people_n and_o say_v i_o be_o the_o queen_n servant_n and_o under_o that_o title_n exercise_v all_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o queen_n majesty_n service_n and_o yet_o never_o authorize_v into_o service_n nor_o receive_v her_o cognisance_n to_o be_v know_v by_o can_v such_o deal_n i_o pray_v you_o even_o firebrand_n of_o hell_n unless_o we_o do_v repent_v wherefore_o good_a brethren_n let_v we_o look_v unto_o it_o and_o look_v to_o it_o earnest_o in_o deed_n that_o at_o the_o pain_n in_o such_o matter_n i_o desire_v you_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n to_o continue_v be_v not_o weary_a of_o well_o do_v the_o lord_n be_v with_o you_o god_n do_v bless_v you_o and_o your_o call_v the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v not_o discourage_v then_o from_o do_v good_a because_o some_o do_v not_o like_v of_o it_o alas_o they_o be_v decive_v with_o false_a &_o slanderous_a lie_n that_o
